MOST MEMORABLE OR FAVORITE EVENT: Debuting with Crystallis is Astrid’s most memorable, as well as her favorite event because it’s validation that all she had given up for this dream was worth it. She had been through a lot to get to where she is now, and unlike debuting with LGC Girls, Crystallis feels more permanent, which is a lot more reassuring, considering her age. Although Future Dreams S2 is in close second, because that’s where it really all began for her.

My top 10 korean dramas of 2019
10. Extraordinary you. Based on a webtoon, I actually almost missed this one because it looked like the typical high school drama but I got curious and watched it. The story is about a girl that realizes she is actually a secondary role on a webtoon and that her life is being written by the author. Nevertheless she makes the decision to make her own story and falling for whoever she chooses. It definitely is a silly rom-com but with a spin. The chemistry between SF9′s RoWoon and Kim Hyeoyeon is what made binge watch the 32 episodes (around 35 minutes each) in just a couple of days.
Tumblr media
9. Her private life. Kim Jae Wook and Park Min Young star in this really fun rom-com based on a korean webtoon about a girl that lives a double life: being an art gallery curator and also a devoted super fan of a member of an idol group (played by One). However everything changes when the new gallery director, Ryan, arrives with an agenda that will make her worlds collide. I wasn’t a huge fan of how they portrayed super fans. I thought it was a missed opportunity of really getting into the mindset of a those kind of fans.
Tumblr media
8. Vagabond. The first episode of this drama really got me excited about it but somehow after a couple of episodes I started loosing interest. When I watched it after a while I somehow finished the whole thing. I think it had its ups and downs but all in all an interesting action romance drama. Lee Seung Gi plays a stunt man that somehow finds himself a father figure to the son of his deceased sister. Money troubles weights him down but he works hard to make a decent living for his nephew. However the kid passes away along with several others in a plane crash. He discovers it wasn’t an accident and he turns his life around to take justice at his own hands. Along the way she meets an agent of an intelligence agency (played by Suzy) and they both work to find the people behind the plane crash.
Tumblr media
7. When the camellia blooms. The main characters of this one are not only endearing but really funny. Gong Hyo Jin has always been one of my favorite korean actresses and this is my favorite part Kang Ha Neul has done. This popular drama is about a single mother who owns a bar and a policeman who falls for her and will stop at nothing until he wins her heart but nothing will come easy for these two, they will have to face several challenges from a killer on the loose to a conservative mother.
Tumblr media
6. Chief of Staff. This drama had two seasons last year something different from the usual modus operandi of korean dramas. Honestly I enjoyed the first season more but even if the story line was a bit messy sometimes, it really was an interesting political drama. Lee Jung Jae plays a character that definitely made me remember House of Cards and The West Wing but in a very korean setting. A former detective is now chief of staff to a congressman and has strong ambicions but he always seems to be stopping fires. It was a very well made drama. Shin Min Ah, Lee Eljah, Kim Dong Joon, Jung Woong In and Kim Kap Soo were all amazing on this one.
Tumblr media
5. SKY CASTLE. This drama gave much to talk about in Korea because it revolves around the pressure parents put on their children to make it to the best universities in the country. The story is set in a rich neighbourhood in Seoul and it shows how some parents will stop at nothing to make their children excel and how it reflects on those children. That dynamic made for an intense 20 episodes. The cast did an amazing job.
youtube
4. Hotel Del Luna. This was a great fantasy drama and I was going to rank it higher but truth is in the second part I felt like they drag the conclussion a bit more than necessary. IU plays Jang Man-Wol the “owner” of Hotel del Luna a place where spirits stay before they pass on. Goo Chang-seong (Yeo Jin Goo) is an assitant manager of a hotel corporation who suddenly learns his father made a deal with a woman that he would have to work in her hotel except her hotel in unlike any other. He’s forced to work there but he refuses to do things like Manwol wants him to and tries to change her mind set. She lives with regrets which has made her have a bad attitude but her walls start to fall down with Chang Seong around. This drama was truely addictive.
youtube
3. One Spring Night. This drama by Ahn Pan Seok was beautifully shot and it deals with how single fathers are looked in a conservative society like Korea and how parents put pressure on their kids to marry well. The tone is definitely similar to Something in the Rain, his previous work also starred by Jung Hae In. Han Ji Min plays a girl in her 30s that has a boyfriend who she’s expected to settle down with but realizes she doesn’t want to marry him just because it’s about time. She meets a single father and she falls for him but society gets in the way and they both will need to decide whether they are strong enough to go against social standards to be together
youtube
2. Crash landing on you. I was waiting for a Hyun Bin drama and finally he did this one with Son Ye Jin and it really turned out great. It’s still airing so I might be making a mistake by ranking this one so high. I really love it though and it’s clearly popular since it’s making double digit ratings which for a cable drama is difficult. The story is about a girl that has an accident that lands her on North Korean soil and seeks help with a North Korean officer to help her return to South Korea. He agrees and they fall in love in the process. It makes for a sweet fun drama but the fact that they are from two countries in conflict will make it difficult to stay together.
youtube
1. WWW: Search. Sometimes you just connect with a drama and that’s what happened to me with this one. It might not have been the greatest love story on this list or the most innovative drama. However I was really drawn by the main character played by Im Soo Jung and also by the script .She really is a strong female character. I think the story really made some really good points regarding the power of social media in Korea as well as how corruption can disrupt the truth. Korea has a web portal in real life called Naver that basically works both as google and as twitter since it shows the top related searches constantly which makes all internet users aware of when something is popular whether is about politics or entertainment. In the drama there’s two portals that do just that: Unicon and Baro, Bae Ta-Mi is a director of Unicon but is betrayed and ends up switching companies to Baro and makes her goal to beat Unicon and make Baro the most used portal in Korea. At the same time, she meets a young CEO (Jang Ki Young)  of a small music company for games and he tries to date her after a one night stand. I also love the secondary couple played by Lee Dae Hae and Lee Jae Wook. The friendship between Lee Dae Hae’s character and Im Soo Jung is definitely one of the most fun parts of the drama.

From Here to Eternity No.5.Turku-The research of temporality and eternity of contemporary art>
Venue: B-galleria, Turku

Organised by B-galleria, 10AAA, SpaceBA  | Curated by Song Yovi
B-galleria is pleased to announce international group show titled, From Here to Eternity No.5 Turku, co-organised by 10AAA and SpaceBA(curator, Song Yovi) and 13 international artists. Exhibition at B-galleria on November consists of artists who subject the objects that are easy to fade away. Artists have reformed and even recreated their previous works and, through that process, they also have expressed the efforts to find a way to preserve them with manual for the artworks.  The dilemma in artwork, temporality, mortality, and eternity, is to be reperceived through artists’ "Art Resurrection".
This project presented at the Seoul Gallery Factory in 2014 through the works of artists, who take easy-to-disappear objects as works of art. It was started as the main theme to explore. The project also considers the "mobility" of works that are not only one time but are reproduced sequentially in another area or another space. For the artists, we requested a device and manual in consideration of 'movement' and 'preservation'. In 2015, we carried out a research on 'variable' installation where the works are composed in a more expanded space in Gallery Purple in Namyangju. In 2017, the project presented the artworks at the oMo artspace in Berlin as the exhibition for international exchange.
The exhibition itself defies “Temporality”.  It wouldn’t be one-time event nor same contents in different places rather continuous to live as “Absence of Artists” and “In Another Space”.  The living of the exhibition would be the experiment and the journey to find the answer if a work of art could be expressed properly in the absence of the creator.
More information:_10AAA(Director_Song Yovi) is a project-based group which consists of art enthusiasts. Our aim is to share innovative ideas and to organize and present a series of artistic events in collaboration with creative people so that we could provide a bridge. www.facebook.com/10aaa | www.10aaa.co.uk | @10aaa_uk_korea
SpaceBA is LCC/non-profit-organisation located in Sewoon SangGa in Seoul. We started from an artist’s life and studios problem and they are running several international exchange project. This space has managed by artists, law consultant, space designer and curator, www.spaceba.org | @sewoon_spaceba

Random trivia: due to a ROM size issue, the Famicom version of Wizardry II has been developed and released after the adaptation of Wizardry III, hence the fact that Wizardry III was rechristened Wizardry II (and Wizardry II became Wizardry III). Yet Another 7 PSX RPGs Everyone Should Play
I think I should start making a list of all of these PSX RPG articles, just so that everyone can easily jump between them. But either way, today we are going to be continuing a series of articles that started at some point last year. However, today is also the point where I change things up a bit; I’ve been trying to sort professional and stiff with my posts, but honestly, it’s a bit tiring… It’s also not me.
So, I’m throwing that all out of the window and from now on, I’m just going to write the way I would talk. Thus, welcome to the new, more relaxed and (hopefully) more entertaining 16-Bit Dad, as we take a look at yet another 7 PSX RPGs that everyone should play!
7. Grandia
Let’s start of this list with a game that I’ve seen mentioned a few times in YouTube videos, but one that I don’t see spoken about much at all on the likes of Twitter; Grandia. Developed by Game Arts, who I have to say are absolute geniuses when it comes to amazing RPGs (they made the Lunar series, after all), Grandia was released on the PlayStation in 1999, 2 years after it’s Sega Saturn release. At the time, I was a budding little anime lover who could easily be drawn into something as long as it had hints of anime style. That was how I picked up Grandia; the cover art.
The mixture of fantasy and so-called “emerging technology” really hit it off with me, harkening back to my love of Wild ARMS and Final Fantasy. However, when I actually started playing the game, I was pleased to see that Grandia offered more than a slight nostalgia-trip brought on by the world design. The combat, especially, was something very different to what I was used to at the time. The sliding bar at the bottom right with the turn order meant that I could plan out my strategies better, but also that I needed to pay more attention that in other RPGs. Also, whilst it’s a minor thing, the camera’s movement during a battle made it feel far more intense.
Oh, and the soundtrack manages to switch between amazing and downright weird all the time, which makes it incredibly amusing. Overall, Grandia is a great alternative RPG compared to the big names out there, and I’m planning to go back to it very soon, too.
6. Breath of Fire 3
Now, I could have included both Breath of Fire 3 and 4 in this list, but I wanted to keep it to just one game per franchise, per list. So, for this list, I have decided to go with Breath of Fire 3. Even though the fourth game is (arguably) the more well-rounded game, Breath of Fire 3 tops it for me as one of the key PS1 RPGs out there. The 2D sprites on a 3D world are all beautifully animated and still look great today. Oh, and the music is just outstanding. The composer, Akari Kaida, did a truly awesome job at putting together a memorable and emotive soundtrack that I can still listen to today!
The story and characters, whilst better in Breath of Fire 4, are all well fleshed out with personalities, which only adds to the immersion of the game. Set over two different periods of time, you get to see how the characters grow and develop as the game progresses, which I’m surprised to say isn’t actually that common in RPGs for the time… Strange, don’t you think?
5. Shin Megami Tensei if…
Well, I mean, we’ve already had Persona 2 on the other lists, so it was only a matter of time before another Shin Megami Tensei game appeared. Shin Megami Tensei if… is a PSX RPG that was only released in Japan, unfortunately. That meant that, as a kid, I didn’t actually get a chance to play the game. However, as I grew up and became able to play imported games through a variety of methods, I finally gave Shin Megami Tensei if… a try. Retaining the creepy nature of the Shin Megami Tensei games, as well as the first person dungeon crawling aspects, this entry in the franchise continued to live up to the previous entries.
I won’t lie, though. It will take some getting used to if you’ve only really played more traditional PSX RPGs. The combat and movement are all very different from what many people would expect. However, don’t let that put you off. Once you’ve nailed the gameplay ideas and mechanics, you’ll be in for one hell of a treat!
4. Mega Man Legends
Next up, we have a game that, in its franchise, was one of the lower selling entries. However, Mega Man Legends is actually a surprisingly fun game. When I first played it, I went in expecting to dislike the game. The idea of Mega Man in an RPG-style game was a bit off-putting. Yet, here I am, including it on this list! Why?
Well, the game hasn’t aged brilliantly in terms of graphics, but the gameplay still holds up as it did at the time. Overall, Mega Man Legends is a relatively wholesome affair compared to most of the games I play, meaning that it is also very easy to get into. This action RPG is light-hearted, entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable, which are all of the criteria that Mega Man Legends needs. If you’re looking for an RPG that doesn’t need incredibly political plots or demons destroying all life on the planet in order to be fun, then you really should try Mega Man Legends.
3. Legend of Mana
Moving on to the next entry in this ever-growing list of PSX RPGs, that has now gotten so long over 4 posts that I largely forget what I’ve already included, we have Legend of Mana. The more commonly known entry in the “Mana” series (called Seiken Densetsu in Japan) is Secret of Mana, which was the second entry in the series. Legend of Mana is actually the fourth game to be released in the series (the third was only released in Japan).
This game came out during the time when seeing Squaresoft on the front cover of a game meant that you were in for one hell of a great ride. Legend of Mana lived up to that mentality completely, having me hooked from start to finish. I wasn’t a big fan of action RPGs at the time, preferring more traditional turn-based ones. However, there was just something about Legend of Mana that buried its claws into me and wouldn’t let go.
What was really interesting about Legend of Mana at the time, especially for someone like me who was used to RPGs with massive yet focused plots, was the lack of an overarching storyline. Rather than featuring one massive quest for the characters to undertake, Legend of Mana features a bunch of smaller questlines and story arcs for you to follow. These all eventually lead into the final story arc, creating a very unique way of telling an RPG story.
2. Threads of Fates
Earlier on, I said that 1999 was the year in which I could be captured purely by a nice piece of anime style cover art. Well, that’s what first caught my attention when my mother’s boyfriend gave me an imported copy of Threads of Fate. The cover art looked so good that I just had to try it out. However, because it was an action RPG and I was still not really accustomed to them, I didn’t play it for long and it was soon lost to time. I have no idea what happened to that copy of the game.
I’ve since matured (a bit) and tried the game again, and I was pleasantly surprised. It certainly isn’t the best action RPG out there and does has a number of flaws. However, Threads of Fate is most certainly enjoyable, and that’s kind of the point of a game, really.
The fact that, once again, it was made by the geniuses at Squaresoft meant that it was almost certainly a good game. That’s why I had to try it again. The different skills that the two main characters have also means that you get a variation in gameplay depending on who you are controlling!
1. Brave Fencer Musashi
And so we come to the end of yet another list of PSX RPGs, and we are ending with both another Squaresoft game and another action RPG. Considering how I’ve been saying that I didn’t really get action RPGs as a kid, it is funny how many of them I now really enjoy playing. It almost feels like I wasted my time as a kid… Especially when it comes to Brave Fencer Musashi. You see, whilst I loved anime covers, Brave Fencer Musashi’s cover just looked too childish for the young me. I wanted to play adult games, to prove that I wasn’t a kid anymore. It’s funny how I regret that now; I missed out on some amazing games.
Brave Fencer Musashi is an action RPG which a very interesting art-style and gameplay that, honestly, does remind me of the Legend of Zelda quite a bit. It’s not a Zelda clone, per se, but definitely has similar vibes in terms of base gameplay. What makes it stand out, however, is the twin sword combat system of the game. One sword is simply a sword, whilst the other can be imbued with magic.
This creates a novelty to combat, which makes the constant killing of enemies a lot more fun than it sounds.
And That’s All Folks
There goes yet another list of PSX RPGs that everyone should play. If you are a fan of RPGs and haven’t tried any of these out (or the others listed here, here and here) then you really ought to go and do yourself a favour; play these games!
Are you an RPG fan? Are there any games you want for yourself? Let me know in the comments below.

Random Naruto OC: Nishimura Kyo
I began rewatching Naruto, cause I never actually finished the show. I decided to make a fanfiction character, cause WHY NOT! I’ll be using various guides, some from tumblr, some from deviant-art, some from just random websites. There are a lot. I don’t want to link them all.
Kyo translates to:  Variant spelling of Japanese unisex Kyou, meaning 1) "apricot," 2) "capital," 3) "cooperation," or 4) "village." (From http://www.20000-names.com/female_japanese_names.htm )
Nishimura translates to:  from Japanese 西 (nishi) meaning "west" and 村 (mura) meaning "town, village". (From https://surnames.behindthename.com/names/usage/japanese )
Essentially her name could be taken as “Village West Village” if you wanted, but more likely her parents meant it more as “Cooperation from the West Village”. Or, maybe they just meant Apricot, and weren’t thinking about Surnames, since it ultimately is just West Village. (An origin point of sorts for the clan.)
Origin: Hidden Stone Village, Land of Earth
Time Period: Using the Nine-tails imprisonment as a time line (12 years before the show, with year 12 being the start of it), she is in year 6 as a Genin, and year 9 as a chunin. She doesn’t proceed to Jonin. Considering 12 years old being the requirement to graduate from the academy (or at least the norm), that puts her at 15 when she passes the Chunin exams, and 18 at the start of the anime (year 12). I swear it was unintentional. Current year is Year 12.
Physical Description
Kyo is a relatively tall girl, at 5′5″ (Compared to average Japanese height from https://www.disabled-world.com/artman/publish/height-chart.shtml ) with honey brown hair cut to her jawline. She has sharp amber eyes set into a heart-shaped face, with delicately built features. She is well muscled and limber with small breasts.  She is above average in prettiness, but ultimately unremarkable save for the traits from her Kekkai Genkai. She is right-handed, and her voice is in the cheerfully middle-high range.
Kyo tends to wear skin-tight black shorts and a soft tan sleeveless blouse. Her ninja tools sit in a bag that hangs on her right hip and strapped to her thigh, as well as a small pack that sits a few inches above the small of her back. Around her forearms are two leather bracers, ribbed with steel. These ribs are in fact knives, while the bracers act as sheathes. She keeps her headband in its proper place, but will sometimes use it like a collar or scarf. The design is repeated in shin-guards.
 Kekkai Genkai
The Nishimura family line has a Kekkai Genkai that does not appear in all of its members, but in enough of them to be considered common. It gives the bearers fox-like traits, different from person to person, but ultimately producing the following effects: amplified hearing, increased coordination, flexibility, motor function, and stability, sharper incisors, and occasionally more ‘cunning’, or intelligence. These fox-like traits exhibit themselves through a fox-tail (Color dependent on hair color or personality, but usually that of a natural fox) and ears, amber eyes, and occasionally fur and claws (Rare traits). The incisors are often sharp enough to cut the owner’s tongue or lips if one is not careful, but they are not pronounced. Unlike most Kekkai Genkai, the Nishimura line is not one that is heavily weaponized; it’s a trait that is easily recognizable. No matter how skilled they are, the Nishimura will never be an ANBU, simply due to their recognizable traits, though one might be brought along if their skillset is deemed neccessary to the mission.
Kyo’s Kekkai Genkai manifests itself in her eyes, a tail (It’s why her fanny-pack sits a few inches above the small of her back), and large, desert-fox ears. Her tail and ears are the same color as her hair. She has lost her human ears (Or rather, she never had them) and her amber eyes have vertical pupils (Like a cats, or more specifically, a foxes).
Skills
At the Chunin level, Kyo is skilled enough that she can fend for herself, and has been deemed capable of being a leader. Her Taijutsu is above average, but not exceptional. Her genjutsu is passable, but below average; while she can fool enemies, she’s not great at it. However, she is exceptional within the Ninjutsu category, a versatile tool within the Shinobi world.
She favors shape transformation over nature transformation of Chakra, but she has mastered the element she has an affinity for: Lightning, like her mother. She has begun learning the water element in an effort to become a Junin.
Unlike many Shinobi, Kyo is skilled enough that she can pretty much make a jutsu up on the fly in combat to meet her needs, so long as it is something in her area of expertise. In terms of D&D or another RPG, she’s more like a sorcerer than a wizard, and more like a monk than a fighter, but with more flexibility than either. “Adapt and Overcome” would likely be her motto in relation to her own powers.
Jutsu
While there are a few abilities here from other lighting users (Such as the Lightning Release Chakra Mode) their power is often not comparable. She might have a few similar jutsu to a Kage, but she doesn’t have the power. She also will often utilize it differently. Also, I doubt I can think of all the jutsu she would actually know, since I am not a Ninja.
E-Ranks: Substitution, Clone, Cloak of Invisibility, Water Walking
D-Ranks: Flash, Bolt, Water Clone, Lightning Clone, Sealed Lightning, Water Bullet,
C-Ranks: Lightning Step, Shift, Fox Fire, Jet Stream, Scan
B-Ranks: Chain Lightning, Arc Line, Lightning Release: Chakra Mode, Lightning Release: Shift Substitution, Sticky Lightning, Chakra Map
A-Ranks: Breath of the Heavenly Dragon
Flash: A flash of light
Bolt: A bolt of lightning
Lightning Clone: A short lived clone that very obviously looks like lightning, exploding on impact.
Sealed Lightning: A marble filled with chakra, set to zap nearby enemies.
Lightning Step: User moves quickly in a straight line, passing through objects that would allow lightning to normally pass through it (not stone, not rubber. People are okay) as if they themselves were a lightning bolt.
Shift: A variant of the substitution jutsu, it can leave a clone in the users place as the user teleports.
Fox Fire: As the spell in D&D, outlines enemies, sticking to the target and creating an outline. Causes no damage.
Jet Stream: A jet of high pressure water.
Scan: A jutsu that expands ones awareness, allowing one to take in as much detail as possible with a cursory glance, with zoom capabilities.
Chain Lightning: As the spell.
Arc Line: Line of electrified nano-wire used to cut enemies.
Sticky Lightning: Orb of lightning that can be attached to people or objects, creating bolts that shock nearby enemies continuously.
Chakra Map: An ability to create a map that can be accessed by others. The area must be known extremely well by the user, or the jutsu will fail. Positions can be tracked, and information can be updated silently.
Breath of the Heavenly Dragon: Kyo’s most powerful ability, and one that she has made herself, the Breath of the Heavenly Dragon is just one breathing out lightning. However, it is incredibly dangerous in how far it can reach and how powerful the lightning actually is, often digging into the ground and creating furrows lined with glass. It is capable of literally transforming landscapes, and can be seen from a large distance away. The user will often be left temporarily blinded.
Personality
Kyo’s personality is incredibly different from both her mother and her father, who run hot and cold respectively. She’s fairly even tempered without being coldly logical, and while she doesn’t hide her emotions, they certainly don’t rule her life. Unlike their intense natures, Kyo is more relaxed, and likely to just take a step back and breathe if she needs to. She’s loyal to the Land of Earth, but she’s not fanatical, and while she’s fought against other nations, and will do so again in the future, she’s not against making friends and diplomatic ties where she can. She tries her best to be friendly with anyone she meets, even on the battlefield, and she’s known, in the other nations at least, as “That Funny Fox Girl”. She has killed before, and while she can kill her emotions, she’s not unaffected. She can and will kill for her country, but if she doesn’t have to, she won’t. She tends to be more extroverted than introverted, and her life is messy.
Kyo is Bi, but has yet to find anyone she wants to spend her life with. She tends to be fairly ‘girly’, and she tends to like butch girls and masculine guys. She views relationships as complicated at best, and she dislikes being led on, or leading others on. After being burned a few times, she is open and up-front with what she wants and what she expects, but this hasn’t worked out for her either. Despite being bi, Kyo doesn’t tend to think about people in terms of romantic relationships or sex, and instead begins thinking about a person in terms of how much she likes them, or if they might work well together, or if they could be friends.
She enjoys fishing, but mostly in lakes and on docks, where the fish are small; she finds it relaxing and easy, where she can just think about a problem without stress. She also enjoys reading and books, but most of her free time that she would spend reading is instead spent training. She also enjoys drinking, and since it is her only sociable activity, it is often the one she winds up doing. Unfortunately, she is a lightweight (or fortunately, depending on ones views. Save on money, but can’t go as long as heavy-weight friends) and therefore often winds up passed out in the bar during a party or event. The rest of her time is taken up with her job as a shinobi.
Her sense of style is ever evolving, but the reality is that not many clothes actually work with a tail and ears; accessorizing is difficult, and getting something to fit right without straight up making it herself or altering it is near impossible. She’s picked up enough to get by in that field, but it’s not like she has a ton of time to do so.
Kyo finds most people fascinating, and she has occasionally lamented not becoming a psychologist or sociologist, or some other profession that would have allowed her to study people.
Goals
Kyo’s current goal is to become a Jonin. Her ultimate goal is to create prosperity for her village. She has no current plans for how to go about that, other than by doing missions and protecting the border. Other goals include finding love, finishing her book series(reading, not writing), and coming up with three unique jutsu, of which one is already done.
Family
Father: Know that I considered naming him Nishimura Aratahiko, or “Fresh Prince of West Village”. Not a real name(as far as I know), but, ahhh, it was worth a good laugh. Instead, he is named Nishimura Seiji, “Refined Second Son of the West Village”. A Chunin, born ~28 years before the nine-tails attack/imprisonment, making him 22 years old when Kyo was born. A fast fighter, known for his Taijutsu and Water based Ninjutsu. Also his Kekkai Genkai, but we’ll get to that later. His personality tends towards cold and logic, but he warms up with his friends and wife. He is colder to his daughter, but more out of a response of being unable to open up to her, or relate.
Mother: Maki Amaya, or “Night Rain Shepard/Genuine Tree”. Born ~26 years before the nine-tails attack/imprisonment, making her 20 years old when her daughter Kyo was born. She is a Jonin, known for her Genjutsu and Ninjutsu, specifically Lightning based attacks. No Kekkai Genkai or other special abilities, but she is a gifted learner. She became a Chunin at an early age, and quickly advanced to Jonin. She would later meet Seiji during a mission, where they fell in love. She chose the name Kyo to remind her daughter to cooperate. She tends to be more emotional than her husband, especially on the heated side; she is hot-headed, and fast acting.
Siblings: A younger brother named Keichi, or First Son. He is six years younger than Kyo, making him about the same age as Naruto. Currently a Genin. While they are siblings, the age difference is severe enough that their relationship is strained.
Early Life
Kyo’s childhood was simple, but lonely; like many children who grew up in two-ninja homes, her parents were often away on missions. She was more or less raised by her Grandfather Maki, a strict man who passed away when she joined the academy. He did his best by her, but she was a rambunctious little girl with an affinity for somehow finding trouble whenever he wasn’t looking.
Academy: Kyo entered Ninja academy with high hopes; she’d been told by her grandfather than Nishimura were gifted Ninja. When he died, however, her spirits fell greatly. Still, she did well enough, and learned to cope with her newfound grief and loss of a real parental figure.
Life as a Ninja
Genin: After graduating from the Ninja academy, Kyo was teamed up with Fujimoto Aika and Maeda Dai, a cute girly girl and budding gruff man respectively. They were led by the Kunoichi Inoue Rika, a Jonin with paranoia and an affinity for summoning and earth ninjutsu. As they progressed, Kyo learned how to properly use Chakra for Shape and Nature transformations. Aika learned that she was skilled in genjutsu, and learned to craft believable illusions, often practicing on the more clueless Dai. Dai, meanwhile, became an expert at Taijutsu, and picked up sword training. He would become the first in the group to become a Chunin, after his third attempt (A year and a half after becoming a Genin). Kyo would be next, after six attempts, and Aika coming soon after at seven.
Chunin: Once becoming a Chunin, Kyo would be moved around quite frequently, filling in slots as members were lost, gained, or needed recovery. She fit in well with others, and while she wasn’t a lynchpin to success, she was certainly instrumental to most of the victories, which is to be expected. Her old teammates were also commonly moved around, though not quite as easily. Due to this, they went on fewer missions, and each had a little more time to themselves than she did. Aika became the first to marry, at the ghastly young age of sixteen. Her husband was of a similar age, at only seventeen, another Chunin. She would also be the first to have a child, two years later. Dai would be the second to marry, at seventeen years old. His wife was also seventeen. He was also the second to have a child, but only by a few days. Kyo is unmarried, and childless.

Week of March 27, 2017.  I Fell In Love With The Band At The Rock Show.
As I write this, I’m sitting on my couch with Michael Jackson’s Off The Wall on the turntable.  This is one of my favorite non-summer Saturday night albums, and definitely my favorite MJ album.  Yes, I just said that.  Off The Wall is definitely my favorite MJ album, and it’s not even close.  And yes, I’ve heard them all.  This is one of those albums that’s just perfect for kick-starting your weekend.  Take a look at this FIVE song run that opens the album.  It’s almost hard to believe how good this is.  “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough”, “Rock With You”, “Working Day and Night”, “Get On the Floor”, and “Off The Wall”.  These songs deal with Bruce-like issues with a ‘70’s soul vibe that sounds like the good part of disco (i.e. TSOP) and not the lame cheesy part. If that opening run doesn’t put you in a good mood and ready for your weekend, I don’t know what will.  And make sure you check out “It’s The Falling In Love”.  What a song!
On Friday night, I had the pleasure of seeing The Menzingers play a sold-out hometown show in Philly. Oh my lord.  What.  A. Show.  I have not been to a rock ‘n roll show like that in a long, long time. The energy.  The sense of community.  The band totally rocked the show, and the crowd, including me, rocked just as hard.  There was lots of movement throughout the entire set, and it’s shows like this that are my reasons for exercising as intensely as I do.  Sure, I could scale back on my workouts which would mean I would have seen the show from further away.  But when you are in a pit with hundreds of people singing and dancing to some of the best new rock ‘n roll, you realize there’s no other way to enjoy it than being in that pit.
This show was a real treat, and if you haven’t seen The Menzingers on tour yet, or heard their fantastic new album After The Party, I cannot recommend it enough.  Run, don’t walk, to your local record store right now and buy the album.  Stop reading this, and immediately go to their website and buy tickets to their show.  You won’t regret it.  The band has such a great time on stage.  And the crowd does too.  As I told everyone I would, I went absolutely nuts during “Lookers”.
This was a special show for me.  It felt like the old TGA days for me.  There were so many of my friends at the show.  It really hasn’t been like that since TGA went on their break.  It was fun to watch my friends in the pit, rocking as hard as possible.  This is one of the things I like most about music.  I love seeing everyone else so happy.
It’s crazy to think that I nearly missed this show.  Let me explain.  In 2012, TGA was touring their great album Handwritten, and I went to a ton of shows on that tour.  The Menzingers were opening at the Philly show on November 27. At that time, I had never heard of them before.  A few of my friends told me that I needed to make sure I saw The Menzingers, so I did. And nothing happened.  I didn’t get it at all.  Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t think they were terrible.  Not by any means.  They just didn’t do anything for me.
Flash forward about seven months, and I was talking to a great friend of mine about music.  We both love TGA, so were talking about them, and then started talking about other bands.  He mentioned The Menzingers, and I told him that I had had trouble getting into them.  He stopped me dead in my tracks and insisted that I buy their third album On The Impossible Past.  I did so.  And I LOVED it.  It hit me so hard, and I was instantly in love with the band’s music.  I’ve followed them ever since.  After the show on Friday, as I was literally out of breath from singing and dancing and fist pumping so hard, and counting down the minutes until I got back to my hotel so I could change out of my sweat-drenched clothes, I felt so lucky that my friend and I had had our conversation almost four years ago.  Imagine if we weren’t talking about TGA on that day.  We may have never discussed The Menzingers, and if that had happened, I might have continued to write them off.  I might have followed their new music.  And worst of all, I could have decided not to go to this show.  That would have been a terrible decision!  I’m glad the opposite happened, and I’m glad I have great friends who are not afraid to be persistent about telling me about truly great music.
The next day after The Menzingers show, we had a few hours to kill in Philly.  Hm.  A few free hours in Center City.  I think I know how to fill those hours….RECORD SHOPPING!  We ended up at Long In The Tooth, one of my favorite stores in Philly. They have a great selection of new vinyl and you can find some real used gems if you spend the time digging. Luckily, we had the time to do some digging and as a result, I found some really great gems, a few of which were on my want-list.
Dave Hause – “Time Will Tell” 7-inch This comes with two non-album songs, including a cover of the Souls’ “Ghosts On the Boardwalk”. Not a bad deal for under $4.
Blood Orange – “Dinner” b/w “Bad Girls” 7-inch I didn’t even know this existed.  I LOVE Blood Orange, and neither of these songs are on any Blood Orange albums.
Miles Davis – Tutu What an album!  This is a great late-night Saturday night album. I was doing some research on this album and I read that this was originally planned to be a collaboration with Prince.  Can you imagine an album with Miles Davis AND Prince?!
Angel Olsen – Burn Your Fire For No Witness
And now the fun begins. Long In The Tooth had a TON of Prince vinyl.  Unless I already had it, or there were visible scratches on the used vinyl, I bought all of it.
Prince - Batman My Dad got me into Prince, and he loves this album.  We listened to this on CD all the time when I was a kid.  Check out “Trust”.
Prince And The Revolution - “Anotherloverholenyohead” b/w “Girls & Boys” 12-inch
Prince - “Letitgo” 12-inch
Prince And The Revolution - “Let’s Go Crazy” b/w “Erotic City (‘Make Love Not War Erotic City Come Alive’)” 12-inch
Here is a list of some of the music I’ve been listening to the past week.  Format: musician – album title, or musician – “song title” (album title).

Music is not only fun to listen to.  It’s also fun to read about!  Hear are a few articles that I’ve read recently, which I think are worth your time.
-          JM (John Mayer) has a new album coming out on April 14, called The Search For Everything.  The NYT did a feature article on him on March 26.  The link to that article is below. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/23/arts/music/john-mayer-search-for-everything-interview.html?ref=todayspaper
-          (F)JM (Father John Misty) has a new album coming out the week before JM’s new album.  It’s called Pure Comedy and I can’t wait to listen to it.  The NYT did a feature article on this (F)JM, and the link to that article is below.   https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/14/arts/music/father-john-misty-pure-comedy-interview.html?ref=todayspaper
-          Dave Hause’s new album Bury Me In Philly is one of my favorites so far from this year.  I discovered his music in 2012 when I saw him touring in support of his debut solo album Resolutions.  He recently did an interview with Xtra Mile Recordings about that album.  You can (and should) read that interview by clicking the link below. http://www.1.xtramilerecordings.com/dave-hause-on-resolutions/
-          Last week I mentioned Dylan’s Q&A with Bill Flanagan.  I think it’s so good, and hilarious, that I will mention it again. Carve some time into your schedule to read this.   http://www.bobdylan.com/news/qa-with-bill-flanagan/
-          Jack White is one of those musicians that you just have to love if you’re a music fan. I wish all musicians had his passion and love for music.  The New Yorker did a feature article on him recently, appearing in the March 13, 2017 issue.  The link to the article is below. http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2017/03/13/jack-whites-infinite-imagination
-          New Miserable Experience by the Gin Blossoms was recently reissued on vinyl.  It is a great summer album (check out the song “29”), filled with catchy choruses and ‘90s guitar riffs (never a bad thing).  A lot of people know some of the Gin Blossoms hits, but not many people know about how they were close to never being popular at all, and yet at the same time had the potential to be one of the world’s biggest bands.  This story explains some of that. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/features/gin-blossoms-new-miserable-experience-at-25-w473690?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_content=daily&utm_campaign=032917_12
-          The New York Times Style Magazine recently included a feature article on Tom Waits, Kendrick Lamar, and Beck, discussing their creative process and the urgency and emergency they feel when creating.  That’s quite the group of talented and creative musicians right there. A feature article of each of them discussing their inspirations and creative process is bound to be worth reading. I’ve read it, and it is.  Take some time to read it.  Here is the link. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/01/t-magazine/beck-tom-waits-kendrick-lamar.html?_r=0
Now I am listening to Dylan’s great new album Triplicate on the turntable.  This is an album that was meant to be listened to on vinyl.  And it’s a great Sunday album.  So after you listen to MJ’s Off The Wall on a Saturday night, you can listen to Dylan’s Triplicate on a Sunday.  You can always find the connection in music!

WWW - February 2017
KOREAN: ~ Tomorrow With You Empress: Y'know, I haven't been disappointed by a Shin Min Ah drama yet...and I wouldn't mind another Lee Je Hoon drama...I hadn't seen such a ridiculous description until now, which is too bad. I had heard time travel and romance and was looking forward to it. I still mean to watch at least the first 2 episodes to see what it's like. XD Ambassador: Shin Min Ah is nowhere near enough to pull me into such a crazy sounding storyline... but if the Empress likes it, she'll drag me into watching it sooner or later. Unni: *giggles* I'll probably wait for one of these two to convince me to watch it....or wait for Pinterest to give me screenshots. ~ Perfect Wife Empress: This sounds possibly really depressing...I don't think I'm putting it on my list...XD Ambassador: SUNG JOON would be the main reason I would check this out.  I can't tell if this is supposed to be an ahjumma romance or not but either way, it's not likely to tempt me, not even for him. Unni: *banging head madly into wall* ~ Romance Full of Life Empress: LOL. At that point, dude, switch careers. XD I would say NOPE, but if it's ONLY 3 episodes...maybe... XD Ambassador: 3 episodes and Yoon Shi Yoon.  Probably at some point I'll pull it up. Unni: Um..................this just sounds like kinda cute......some weekend maybe. ~ Super Family Empress: .....I am underwhelmed. No thanks.... Ambassador: NO.  It sounds like one of those long Monday melos and I generally dislike those. Unni: No xie xie.... ~ Strong Woman Do Bong Soon Empress: I was like NO, YOU CAN'T JUST REMAKE WEIGHTLIFTING FAIRY AND HAVE ANOTHER SUPER STRONG GIRL but then I saw some cute promo pics and bother, I like all 3 of the leads, and it might be adorable. So I am not putting it past myself to watch it. XD Ambassador: I like all three of the lead actors from other things but I didn't think that the synopsis was enough to tempt me.  At first, anyway.  THEN, I saw the part about her becoming his bodyguard and I cracked up and yes, I'll probably watch it, at some point. Unni: *BOUNCES UP AND DOWN* I am on a strong woman streak....this sounds delicious! *waves hand madly* ~ My Only Love Song Empress: Heh. Time travel is in again, huh? Nobody wants to stay in the present after 2016? Unless I hear something raving about it later, this isn't really enough to intrigue me. Ambassador: There isn't much information about this yet but Lee Jong Hyun of CN Blue is in it and so is the villainous brother of Park Ki Woong from Bridal Mask.  As long as my list is right now, I feel that if I added one more drama I'm not passionately interested in, it will be the straw that broke the camel's back, er, list.  So no. Unni: I'll probably wait for screen shots...it's a little interesting. ~ 109 Strange Things (webdrama) Empress: I am curious. Which is more than be said for the previous dramas. And I've enjoyed the last few webdramas I've seen. I might go for this one. XD Ambassador: Color me interested enough to check it out.  It could be highly amusing. Unni: This sounds iiiiiiiiiiiinteresting CHINESE: ~ The Starry Night, The Starry Sea Empress: Heh. Okay, that sounds a little different from the usual. I like that. I also like the title. However, magical Chinese dramas tend to not be things I watch. So...I kind of doubt I'll get to it....XD Ambassador: YES, because it's William Feng and Bea Hayden and had enough internet buzz that I'm interested.  (Also, I'd watch pretty much anything for William Feng Shaofeng, so there's that.) Unni: I just watched the opening credit scene because you get a peek at the drama.....I am not sure...it seems jussssssssssssssssssssssst a little more on the too weird side for me, they are cute though. ~ The Glory of Tang Dynasty Empress: Intriguing. If it was a Korean drama I think I'd be more likely to dive into it...it would depend on what else I heard about it. Ambassador: Hmmmm, I don't know.  I'm inclined to say yes- palace and harem dramas are my kryptonite- but, I'll have to wait and see what it looks like. Unni: This sounds interesting, we'll see how it all goes down. ~ Love Just Come Empress: aww...it sounds sweet...but somehow not something that catches my attention.... Ambassador: Good for her, but nope, not going on my list. Unni: This sounds cute...the subject is interesting. I might look at it...we shall see. ~ The Legendary School: Three Lives, Three Worlds Tao Hua Yuan Empress: *dies* This sounds kind of adorable...I tend to be wary of magical dramas...but depending how it was done this could be really fun. XD Ambassador: Chinese urban fantasy is usually hilarious and fun and this looks like no exception.  I'll be keeping an eye on it. Unni: We'll see how busy I am. ~ Detective Samoyeds Empress: HEE. I still want to watch Joseon X-files. But...between medic, ballistics enthusiast, and analytics expert...in the Tang Dynasty...XD I am very intrigued. Ambassador: YES.  The plot and characters sound like too much fun to stay away.  (The title cracks me up though... does Samoyed mean something different in China?  Because all I can think of is fluffy white dogs.  Unless they're simply referring to the idiom 'like a dog with a bone' for the way they operate... but why choose Samoyeds?) Unni: Subject matter interesting, everything else...no thank you. ~ Till Death Tear Us Apart Empress: I like the title a little bit...but the rest doesn't grab me... Ambassador: I don't thiiiiink so.  Just doesn't pique my interest. Unni: Not up my ally of interest. ~ Long For You Empress: .....aliens, immortals, reincarnation...somehow I'm not terribly intrigued.... Ambassador: Finally the cdrama adaptation of You Who Came From the Stars.  Noooope, not interested. Unni: Also a pass here. I couldn't get into the K one how could I get into the C one? ~ Full Love Empress: Poor kids...this all sounds depressing...naw... Ambassador: Ooh, Hawick Lau and Alina Zhang Meng make it tempting, but the plot removes that temptation.  Probably not watching. Unni: *tip toes around drama* I'll pass. ~ Qin Empire Jue Qi Empress: Third installment. Because one 30 episode show was not enough...XD When I have endless time I will watch them all in proper order. Ambassador: I'm putting this on my list of dramas to watch when researching particular historical eras. Unni: I'll let these two fill me in on these unless I become fascinated with Chinese history A January cdrama I missed: ~ The Legend of the Condor Heroes Empress: That sounds possibly interesting...but when there are others in the series that I haven't seen yet... Ambassador: The latest in the Condor Heroes franchise.  I started the one from 2008 and loved the chemistry in that one, but I'm not so sure I'll try this one. Unni: I started watching one of the Condor Heroes once upon a time... I found it a little weird....so no. TAIWANESE: ~ Art in Love Empress: no....XD Ambassador: George Hu isn't enough for me to watch this one. Unni: This sounds like one of the less interesting Taiwanese dramas HONG KONG: ~ Romance for 7 Days Empress: heh. This is not the Hong Kong drama that will draw me away from my massive list. Ambassador: Naah, not enough to interest me. Unni: No thank you! ~ Tiger Mom Blues Empress: okay, while "tiger mom" makes me laugh, the rest of this makes me cringe... Ambassador: Lordy NO.  The title is cool but I don't usually like family dramas. Unni: Not really interested, there are far more interesting things in life. Which of these dramas will YOU be watching?
