Shin Shirayuki-hime Densetsu Prétear - Thoughts

Yeah, I’m slightly embarrassed to say that I watched this... I’m also just saying that I knew what it was going to be, and it was just as I thought. I tried watching a shoujo anime of the past. This anime is older than I am actually. Plus, it was a quick watch because I could fast-forward and literally still be on the ball with the plot.

@fiftyeightminutes , are you trying to kill someone? I don’t want alcohol intoxication. Also, I didn’t know the OST was used in pornos, but I’m really not surprised.

Story and Characters

Exactly what you’d expect. A mahou shoujo (magical girl), a distant guy who seems cold but is really a tsundere, a cool stoic white-haired guy, and the rest of the cast of those people. Right, them. There’s a nice merged family though with a stepmom and two stepsisters (Cinderella? This anime is called Shirayuki?). They’re initially cold but secretly care more than they let on. Besides that, everything is really cliche. For some reason, when people get rejected by love in this show, they fall into despair and would rather be dead rather than... you know, moving on. Sure, be sad for a little while, but become a monster because of it? Dude, we’ve got better things to do with our lives.

Art

It’s a normal early 2000s kind of animation. That’s about all I can say. It’s definitely not as good as today’s animation, that’s for sure.

Sound

Well, alright. Let’s see, the seiyuu who plays the main girl has not done much else (or anything of note). She sings the ED. The OP and ED were both very forgettable though, but I didn’t sit through either. The visuals and all of it was just... all done before. It’s a 2000s anime.

The rest of the voice cast later went on to do some good stuff. I haven’t heard Kousuke Toriumi around much besides Kiba from Naruto (because I watched Naruto. Remember when Kiba wanted to become Hokage? What a joke! His dog pees on people. That’s his ninjutsu). He’s the initial reason for why I watched this. I’ve heard a lot about him, but I haven’t actually heard him in a main role. He’s actually not that bad. His voice is nice, but has anyone seen him not wearing a hat? Like recently. All the pictures of him without a hat are from long ago. Not to mention, even when he was on AD-LIVE, he was still wearing a hat. Cast party? Still wearing a hat. Is he balding? According to a few pictures, his hairline is receding really fast. But again, I don’t think he has eyebrows in that picture either.

Takahiro Sakurai plays another white-haired guy who isn’t as level-headed as he seems. Hmm... where have I seen that before?

Right... Griffith from Berserk!

OH, BUT THE REAL HIGHLIGHT WAS HEARING TAKEHITO KOYASU AS TANAKA. 

YOU KNOW WHAT HE’S KNOWN FOR?

You thought it was Japanese dub Deadpool, but it was I, DIO!

Everything else was alright. 

Final Thoughts

Eh, I came away learning that Kousuke Toriumi is pretty good and actually a bit underrated, Sakurai plays another character that’s actually twisted, and I watch another shoujo and know exactly what’s going to happen. Again, this happens with shounen anime too.

Author's note: I will write shorts like these as a way to show more of my OCs and their interactions with other characters, also @lovelovecorner 's OCs.

Words counting: 700

Seiren Matsubara could remember how one of her classmates said that she would never smoke because there was no way she would stay outside in the cold to take a puff. It would be funny to meet this classmate while she was doing what kept that woman away from this bad habit. Staying outside of Miyoshi Concepts at 6 PM while the wind was trying its best to move the raindrops enough to cool the artist's face wasn't anything people would die to try. However, it had a calming effect.

At the second puff, the glass door of the building opened. Seiren recognized the ex-skater and actual architect of the company as the person who exited. Shirayuki nodded her head in acknowledgment and stopped after the door closed. She could feel the smoke in the air. Taking a step to be parallel with Seiren, she looked at the road.

Firstly, she looked at the right, then at the left, again at the right, then at the left. And like this five times. She took a step way bigger than her usual steps and looked at her sides three times. However, this time, she also put her hair behind her ears, making the hearing aid visible.

It took her eight steps to reach the road. Then, she went back. It wasn't the first time Seiren saw Shirayuki doing this. However, it was for the first time something clicked in her mind. Before she could hide the fact that she eyed the architect the whole time, Shirayuki was already near her, at the point she started counting her steps.

"Can you give me a smoke?" Shirayuki asked without even sparing a look at Seiren.

At first, Seiren reflexively let her hand go toward her pocket. Then, she stopped midway and turned questioningly toward Shirayuki.

"You are a former athlete. Aren't you supposed to take care of your health?"

Shirayuki moved her weight on the outer part of her sole, then hit the ground with her toes. Meanwhile, her hands tried to find the right signs to express her feelings. After the signs stopped, she finally looked at Seiren.

"I don't think you're the one to talk," she said while closing her eyes. Her left hand touched the hearing aid in her left ear. Putting a strand of hair behind, she took a deep breath.

"You're not Ban or Maki. Being rude doesn't suit you," Seiren felt the urge to put her hand on the top of Shirayuki's head. Yet, the 6 cm difference didn't give her enough height privilege. She didn't even understand that she strongly hinted at the fact that she knew way more than someone who barely interacted with Miyoshi Concepts workers could.

"I have a hunch that something bad will happen to me today. If I don't smoke right now, which is a pretty bad thing if you ask me, then it will be something worse," Shirayuki's eyes traveled from her hands that tried hard to calm each other to the road. A car within the legal speed limit passed by them. The ex-athlete took a step back, enlarging the distance between her and the driveway. For a second, her left hand reached for Seiren's sleeve, which didn't go unnoticed by the artist.

"You have OCD." This came more as an affirmation than Seiren intended it to make, yet, she didn't stop. "Moreover, Kiba knows nothing about it, and you don't plan on telling him anything, does he?"

This time, Shirayuki took a step farther from Seiren. A hand with a cigarette in it shortened the distance between them. After the architect took in her 'bad omen' the same hand lightened it up. Finally, Shirayuki relaxed after taking the first puff.

"You don't seem to smoke for the first time," Seiren commented while putting out her cigarette.

"I didn't have the happiest childhood."

A whispered "relatable" caught Shirayuki's ears. She was sure that it was just her imagination. Her hearing aids weren't strong enough to register something so silent. When she looked at Seiren to confirm her theory, the artist was looking somewhere far away and nowhere at the same time.

The question remained unanswered.

Relationship with Shirayuki Kiba: Shirayuki and Shiori know each other because Shiori was Ansetsu's girlfriend and first love. Shiori cared a lot for Shirayuki when she was together with her brother. She even learned sign language for her. Moreover, Shiori was one of the few people with whom Shirayuki was verbally talking. When she found out that Shirayuki was the one to save her from the accident and hurt herself, she felt very guilty.

I had an idea for a while and now I decided to make it canon in my OCs' world.

So, Shiori - the same Shiori who's Kuranosuke's first wife - is Ansetsu's (Shirayuki's brother) first love. And it was Shiori whom Shirayuki saved from being hit by a car and nearly died herself. Moreover, she is also Sua's first love. They were childhood friends and continued to keep in touch after Sua's debut in a k-pop group. However, Sua's bullies started to spread rumors about her relationship with Shiori, and Sua decided to stop talking with her friend not to hurt her.

Later, Shiori is assigned as a rep for a company and has to work with Miyoshi Concepts. So, she meets her first husband, the person who almost died while saving her life, and her former best-friend. Also, she meets Noemi who unlike the trio mentioned above, doesn't like Shiori at all because she blames her for Shirayuki's accident.

Originally, Shirayuki's skate partner was also named Haru. I couldn't stop laughing when Voltage named the kitten Haru. I probably have some future-telling powers that I'm not aware of.

Not me changing Sua's profile after months of posting it. Now she is from Tokyo and meets Shirayuki only after the former figure skater comes to Tokyo. In high school she meets Noemi.

Maybe sooner or later I'll post about how they became friends.

My idea from now is that Shirayuki, being alone after Ansetsu's death, moves in with Sua. Then, Noemi, due to her lack on social interaction in school, convinces Shirayuki to let her live with them, Shirayuki being the only person Noemi has talked with during high school.

And while living together, the trio becomes so close.

Shirayuki Kiba's OCD explained

Here I have foreshadowed Shirayuki's OCD. And Seiren's guess was right.

So, what's the deal, and what are the signs?

When Shirayuki was five years old, her parents got into a car accident, and she suffered the most. Because of this, she lost a part of her hearing, becoming hard of hearing. It wasn't her parents' fault. The driver of the other car was drunk and didn't turn on the lights. However, her parents felt very guilty and refused to accept that Shirayuki had hearing problems. That's the reason why they have never learned sign language.

At twelve, Ansetsu - Shirayuki's older brother, moved to Tokyo because of his university. He convinced his parents to take Shirayuki with him. Because they distanced themselves from her, it wasn't hard for them to accept this. So, that's how Shirayuki met Shiori - Ansetsu's first love, and Kuranosuke - Ansetsu's classmate. Ansetsu spent a lot of time with Shirayuki because she developed selective mutism and didn't have any friends outside the skating rink. Also, he was the one to drive her to and from training. Sometimes, Kuranosuke or Shiori accompanied them. One of these days, Shirayuki and Ansetsu were supposed to cross the street at the traffic light to go home from training. However, a driver with broken brakes couldn't stop the car and nearly hit Shirayuki. But Ansetsu saved her by pushing her away. He didn't have enough time to save himself and died in front of Shirayuki's eyes. After this incident, the girl ghosted both Kuranosuke and Shiori.

Skipping six years, we meet a twenty-four years old Shirayuki who just finished training and wants to go home. Shirayuki saw someone who resembled her brother's former girlfriend. However, the woman was seemingly distressed and crying. Shiori didn't check the road, unlike Shirayuki who due to the events in her past was always looking both ways. So, the figure skater was the first to notice a car driving at a dangerous speed. Just like her brother six years ago, she rushed to push the supposed victim away and became a victim herself. That was the beginning of her disorder.

Shirayuki knew when she and Kaisei won the Olympic silver that she would end her career and concentrate on her dream of becoming an architect. However, the accident worsened her hearing even more. It wasn't how she was supposed to leave and change her life.

The events left her with PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) that triggered a form of OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder).

Shirayuki counts her steps to be far enough from the road to be safe. Also, when she goes to a new place, she learns beforehand the route to get in there that has the least number of panda crossings, and she has to go to that place more times to remember it by heart. Every time she has to cross a street, and it's not the green light, she counts the steps to the road and then back to a place she feels safe to stay at while waiting. That makes her late for work from time to time. Shirayuki is sure that if she walks too near to the street, she or someone else will be hit by a car. Also, she can't stand it when she bumps into someone. Every time something like this happens, she has to go back to the previous panda crossing and walk again to where she needs to be without bumping into anyone. At work, she also hates when someone bumps into her. She thinks this shows that she isn't attentive enough, raising the risk of getting into an accident again.

Because Shirayuki was also a victim of an accident while in a car, she is afraid to get into cars. She is okay with trains, planes, and undergrounds. However, buses, cars, and taxis are a big no-no. The only exceptions are the cars driven by Kaisei or Noemi. Both got their driving licenses before her last accident, and she saw how attentive they were. Yet, even with them, she sometimes has panic attacks in the car. Every time something like this happens, she has to get out of the car and walk to her destination. Shirayuki doesn't trust Kuranosuke's driving skills because she has never seen him driving. If she needs to go to a work meeting, Shirayuki asks Kaisei or Noemi to drive her there.

So, does she go to therapy or what? Do you remember that I said that she used to have selective mutism? When Ansetsu got enough money from his part-time job, he enrolled her in therapy. Shirayuki knows how it works. However, her therapist from that time moved abroad, and she is afraid to find a new one.

Does Kuranosuke know about her OCD? Honestly speaking, Kiba understands that something is going on. He has never thought that it was this serious. He is annoyed by her lateness and lack of responsibility. However, with time, after getting married, he got some hints that something deeper than irresponsibility was at fault for her behavior. I have a scenario idea about how he confronts her, so I'm not going to spoil it.
