Concerning Lesson 38's wild left turn, I think the writers (or the one writer who may or may not be religious lol) are trying to paint the Celestial Realm as not entirely awful but every attempt just nose dives off a cliff. When I finished reading Lesson 38, I couldn't help but think of favoritism relating to Lucifer's character as a whole. Sincerely, I doubt this would be related to Father's """love""" if it was any other brother. But those are just my thoughts, thanks for reading <3

Yeah, it does seem like there have been attempts at times to make the Celestial Realm not-so-bad, but at the same time they also go in hard on things not being so great up there (especially with the whole obedience thing). Trying to suddenly paint God/Father as a kinder figure after all of this is definitely not the way to go about it, and seems like a very cowardly thing to do when so much of the games have been built on the Great Celestial War and the angels having to obey every word "he" says.

As for favoritism for Lucifer as a character -- it's strange because this actually makes zero sense for him, mainly in that he would just accept that Father loved them all along and he just forgot. It's a giant disservice to him as a character. He is the one who has himself said that Lilith's punishment was a catalyst for the War -- not the only reason! To suddenly make him do an about-face and be like "ah yes but Father loves us uwu" is throwing out a big part of who he is.

And yeah, Solmare does just keep forgetting to make the other brothers competent for more than a half-second at a time. They keep telling us that they're all powerful, and Season 1 of Nightbringer emphasized that they all chose to follow Lucifer. But when it came to punishment, they weren't specifically targeted the way Lucifer was -- even though Mammon points out that Judecca sounded like it should be the circle for all of them, since they all betrayed "Father" (minus Satan, which they also skirt around half the time).

Lesson 38 was just really frustrating with how it handled this all together. u_u Thank you for sharing your thoughts though!!

New episode of Smg4?!?!?!? Well I'm inna writing mood soooooo.... Imma review/analysis and share my thoughts on the new episode >:) ["SMG4:SMG3's BOMB CAFE"] If you're bored feel free to read this overly detailed analysis of a 12:01 minute video! (Actually ~10:30ish)

Smg3 being so happy abt his lil cafe is very cute. I did not expect Smg4 to be so goddam sassy in this episode but I like that they didn't get rid of their rivalry completely since u know, after so many years it would be odd for it to just disappear even if they have recently been bonding so much u<u

Still I couldn't help but feel a bit odd? Like idk if Four just desperately wanted Three to ask him for help w the coffee or what but DANG was he super into making Smg3's life harder. At 4:49 Smg4 basically goes screw it lets make Three more miserable and invites everyone. Like let bro learn overtime we don't need a Kirby Lunch Rush but with Smg3! Also Four's expressions? Dude is being SILLY on purpose u_u He continues his nuisance charade with 6:22 ("How can you not even have the unicorn frappucino?"). Like dang bro how abt u calm ur sass down and stop provoking Three even more? He does get a clear indication of Smg3's annoyance (8:51-8:52 Smg3 says "Shut up." to Four also stopping him from making another sassy remark) yet still continues. At 9:14 (Smg4:"So you admit you can't run a shop yet?") Four gives his snarky comment and all I can think of is how he intentionally made it harder for Three to run the dang shop. [Note: Tbh even someone who owned a shop would have a hard time with Smg4's Crew lets be fr.] Just like I said at the beginning of this paragraph I am starting to really believe Four wanted to be involved with Three somehow and the only way he knew how is by forcing conflict.

Characterization wise what surprised me is how even after two instances of Three yelling for the others to stop fighting they still continue on. Idk I just feel like they would've listened tbh. They were very... hyperactive I guess? The characters do act kinda like they should but it still felt odd to me for some reason. Eggdog as always has the best characterization tho, man do I like that silly egg thing. Anywho this wasn't the only thing that felt odd continuity wise. I would've thought Smg3 learnt to make proper coffee before he started up a cafe? Especially since he literally lived in a STARBUCKS??? Like I just think he would've idk tried making coffee before opening a cafe even if he didn't make any during his time in the Internet Graveyard. I did make up two explanations for this tho! One is that the dead memes (Specifically the funny lil knuckles) made the coffee during his time in the Internet Graveyard and the other is that he was just too anxiety/adrenaline ridden to make proper coffee. At the end of the day these things aren't huge issues for me but as I said before it did make me feel odd.

Smg4 getting called out for his sass was necessary for me to like this video so imma glad it happened and he doesn't just get away with his behavior. At 9:23 the realization of his silly shenanigans finally catch up to him and that means..... THE SMG34 PART OF THE EPISODE STARTS YEEHAW! Even though Smg4's and 3's confrontation felt just the tiny bit forced to me (probably Four's fault) it was so nice to see them being softer. I also really like how Three doesn't agree to Four's proposal without making some convoluted reasoning as to why this isn't just two pals helping each other out and is actually TOTALLY just a transactional thing. It feels really in character! Oh yeah since I need to put this somewhere at 9:47 Four is like "I want to help" and like... you made it harder and now you want to help? Better now then never tbh ^w^/

Jokes -> The joke at 2:27-2:34 made me chuckle ._. and that makes me somewhat disappointed in myself (You want it? Issa urs my friend is so real). 3:00 is also a joke I liked, it felt very relatable (I struggle with basic human stuff like buttons on a coffee machine also u_u aww man). 3:28-3:32 Decent joke! 4:12 having a Gmod Three bang the coffee machine was good but the sudden Pomni/Smg4 reaction wasn't for me :v (It is good for Au art tho, I've seen the Smg4 as Pomni art hehe ;P ). 5:55-6:05 Nice joke ^v^/ (Smg3 writing '1 jar of poison for Mario' was the cherry on top tbh). 6:29-6:35 just like the joke at three minutes the whole 'operating a coffee machine being like dark magic' is still funny to me. 7:35-7:38 7:45-7:46 the music that plays when the rainbow (acid) coffee is shown is cool. 8:34-8:49 The whole Tari going coo coo joke is honestly pretty unfunny ._. I did not like it :v. 10:44-10:45 'Cleaned up everything!' is such a funny pop up to put here. Joke APPROVED!

Joke wise I think this episode is actually quite solid. The one joke I really didn't like kinda puts it down but ignoring that issa cool ig :D (6,8/10)

youre totally fine, dw! first disclaimer is ive not seen it, but also i dont plan to. i cant vouch for how racist the actual narrative within the movie, for me its more that its situated in a media landscape of films where i saw it advertised and i said to myself "oh i know exactly what that is :/ i thought we were done with this but i guess not"

theres a lot of stuff that i can ramble abt bc its very interesting and theres a million different ways this all plays out even if it all comes from the same source of anti-native thinking. but in particular w this movie its that i know it was gonna be trauma porn possibly mixed with imperialist nostalgia (aka mourning the loss of us/our culture even while actively killing and oppressing us)

there was a really good article i saw a while ago and shared some of the quotes from that talks about this movie specifically! i wont just repost the quotes i pulled before, but in particular for thinking of this movie and not movies in general:

As the film continues, hour after hour after hour, more Native men and women are killed off. [descriptions of various grisly deaths depicted in the movie.] Other than [one character being seen serenely walking into the afterlife], there is no moment of healing and catharsis for the Natives in the audience. Our wounds are reopened and left festering for the entertainment and "education" of non-Native viewers.

Can’t blame Jess for how poorly this cross motif fits into the eventual lore, since it didn’t exist yet and she didn’t make this skin herself, it was another one that was just part of the mod. Other than that, it’s pretty nice looking and certainly gave him an iconic theme & design. I personally have some very mixed feelings on the crusader imagery present: on one hand, it brings in some unpleasant history which can sully the image of what’s meant to be a very likable character and otherwise bring up unpleasantness, but equally it does evoke strong, iconic imagery and draws on religious and historical iconography that the audience will already be familiar with, which does provide him with a strong, recognizable presence and gives the audience an automatic understanding of some aspects of who he is. The black cross on his chest probably should have been a little lighter so it could have been shaded, and the gold pieces are pretty ugly, but since the skin is mostly monochromatic, I have no complaints for the majority of the colors and shading. I’m only noticing it now, but the texture on the sides of his legs doesn’t match up with that of the front at all, which is... certainly an odd choice. He looks nice though, overall. 

( P.S. In CustomNPCs mod (not Minecraft Comes Alive, like I previously thought?), this skin was titled White_knight. Couldn’t they have picked a better name? u_u )

It’s cute that his mask emotes, but otherwise... hm. Not a huge fan.

The color of the gold is a lot better, that’s nice to see (sure took her a while.../lh), but otherwise this is just the same skin but overdone. I was really excited at first by the prospect of Rebirth as a rewrite and redesign, but realizing most of the characters just looked exactly the same but more highly rendered was disappointing, for me personally, at least. The colors in this one are actually a lot less pleasing to me, since there’s a lot more of this very light grey which wasn’t present in the original, and the shading is highly lacking despite it being a more “high quality” rendering.

And while it is cute that his mask emotes, it doesn’t match the style of the show very well, in my opinion. Garroth is generally a pretty serious and stoic character, which is greatly enhanced by the fact that no one can see his face or read his expressions. Additionally, it’s a little overly cartoonish, especially for, again, a character with a generally serious demeanor.

It is cute though, I can definitely see why the team would choose to make him more expressive this way, since lack of personality and expression can certainly be a character design flaw, rather than enhancement.

The small amount of skin showing under his helmet also lends itself to poor character design, in his specific case. Originally, the audience has absolutely no idea what this character will look like underneath his helmet, and while it’s a small detail, showing his skin still detracts from that suspense and mystery a notable amount.

Finally, there he is, still wearing a cross in a world where Jesus Christ does not exist (at least, there sure hasn’t been mention of a Minecraft Jesus,) and where he, along with most others, follow a religion with a different representative symbol. It’s a nice enough idea that the cross is specifically the crest of the Ro’meave family or O’khasis, but then it makes even less sense for him to be wearing it, as he’s keeping his identity a secret.

What a downgrade, to be honest! Rewriting a story with a more clear vision of where it will go should provide one with the ability to enhance character designs and make them fit the world they come from better, yet when given this chance, Jessica didn’t do a single thing to make his character design make more sense within her fictional world, and instead decided just to render every piece of chain on his chain mail.

This armor is a fun change from the original, and it adds a lot to his character knowing that back in O’khasis he had designed his own armor and that it’s considered some of the best of the best. However, he is still wearing that damn cross.

I have yet to mention his sword. It’s one of the least tacky of the swords in MCD. Even though it’s definitely just supposed to be a cool fantasy sword without any particular bearing on reality, its silhouette does actually have potential both as a fantasy weapon and a more realistic one. Though it certainly isn’t exact, his blade does bear more than a passing resemblance to the Indonesian keris/kris sword, a wavy bladed weapon with spiritual and practical associations and which is historically a sign of status. These were also considered individual works of art, with each sword being highly detailed and decorated.

While it isn’t necessary, I think details like this are worthy of note and interesting to look over. I think the keris is quite a fitting blade for him.

Well, this is basically just his first armor again but without the white cape thing, but if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it! The darker colors clearly signify to the audience that he’s become more villainous and his muted skin, eyes and hair give the impression that he isn’t quite himself. It’s a little bit cliche, but there’s nothing really wrong with it. He looks good!

ENCHANTED AFTERTHOUGHTS

Game: Enchanted Arms (January 12, 2006)

Console: Xbox 360

Rough day so far. Trying to unwind a little bit by taking care of some non-work related stuff. So I figure this is the perfect time to talk about Enchanted Arms! I beat this game on the first of September, but even 5 days later I can't stop thinking about it. There's something really special about this game and I want to be the one to tell YOU why you should check it out... Although maybe not cause I'll be talking about some spoilers I guess. Oops.

As always, this isn't a review yadda yadda ect ect. I'm just spilling my thoughts about how I felt from playing through it. Not meant to be a guide for if you should play, it's just me talking about video games. Always try ANYTHING and EVERYTHING I talk about here if it interests you at all.

SOME ENCHANTED ARMS SPOILERS AHEAD, IF YOU EVEN CARE U_U

Opening

I'm not 100% sure how I found out about this game. It was on youtube I believe. Either a video for underrated or bad RPGs I genuinely cannot recall lol. But I remember thinking it actually looked really cool! And last year I managed to find a copy for under $10 on ebay and decided, hey why the heck not? And gave it a shot. I made slow progress on it through August but FINALLY managed to wrap it up in September. Like I said earlier, I haven't stopped thinking about it since. It's a janky little game but I think it's a special game too.

Stuff I liked

So, first and foremost. This is an XBOX 360 JRPG. Which is a very odd era for turnbased RPGs to exist in just in general. They tend to be kinda janky and feel a little cheap in some ways? But this just makes them extremely charming in my opinion. They're so few and far in between on 7th generation consoles but ESPECIALLY 360. So I find them all to be extremely charming in spite of their flaws. And this applies to Enchanted Arms as well. All the weirdness and jank just kinda makes it more endearing.

You play as Atsuma, a hot blooded anime-protagonist type guy (who is also an honorary edgy badboy made in a lab! You love to see it.) As he goes on a quest to save his 2 best friends who vanished after a powerful devil golems is freed. He meets new friends and discovers a lot about himself while finding a way to save the world. Kinda basic stuff but the story does manage to do some VERY interesting things. It has a big moral on relying on others, not doing things alone, sticking to what you believe in no matter what, but also some tougher stuff like when helping others just becomes about helping yourself, ect ect. It's a lot of themes I really love and love seeing tackled and I think Enchanted Arms really does a good job with a lot of the ideas! I really loved seeing how the 4 main teammates grow and come to really trust each other. And I thought the whole finale and concept of Infinity was SUPER cool. Infinity was such a freaky and interesting final boss. And while I won't spoil it completely, the way you kill him was very cool.

The characters are certainly a high point in my opinion. Again, I LOVE Atsuma. I'm a huge sucker for protagonists and he has pretty much everything I love. Stupid? Check. Edgy badboy made in a lab? Check. Happy-go-lucky? Check. Has to do some soul searching through the game? Check. Evil fucked up arm that does crazy shit he can't explain? Check check check! But the other characters are good too! I liked Karin is a little annoying but generally I'd say her mean attitude is funny more than it is off putting. Plus the cooking scene was very good. Raigar is cool and I used him a TON during the game. And Yuki is hilarious, she may have been one of the funniest next to Atsuma. And they all have great chemistry, I loved how they tease each other but also help and comfort each other. It's a small party but I think focusing on just 4 teammates really helped the game out in the long run!

Even other things like just the world concept. The lore behind the golem wars is cool, I like the different city concepts and how they're based on real world locations. And even small world building details like how everyone hates Atsuma at school, to the point where there's an afterschool club for hating on him. Or how everyone loves Toya. There's neat concepts like a girl in another city who knows Atsuma, but you don't really know her unless you actually read the tie in comic. There's small world building stuff like that, which you'd expect from an RPG probably. But still! It's neat!

Outside of just the story, the gameplay is really interesting. The overworld is pretty standard walking around dungeons type stuff. But in combat is where it gets really interesting. It's turnbased, but rather than being just regular turnbased combat, it has strategy elements infused into it. So you actually move your characters around a grid, and your attacks only attack certain tiles on the enemy grid (if you've ever played Ikenfell, it's VERY similar to that!) So fights require a little bit more strategy and thinking than just mashing through them. Even basic enemy encounters can topple you if you're not playing smart. While this can make some encounters a total pain, believe me, ultimately I think it benefits the game more than hurts it.

And its not just the combat itself that's unique. The way stats work and characters upgrade is pretty interesting. You have all the usual stats and level ups you'd expect. But where most of your stat increases come from is actually a skill currency you get from battles that you can spend on upgrading stats or learning new moves. It's interesting! And allows you to customize your team how you see fit to match your playstyle! Which is nice! There's some other stuff like friendship points, combos, and overdrive attacks. But I'll be perfectly honest, I never got a grasp on what these were lol. But I think they all play into eachother and helping you build meter for super powerful EX attacks?

And then, something that kinda surprised me about this game. It has a small monster collection aspect to it? As you progress you can find golems to fight in the overworld who will join your team if you beat them, as well as golems you can buy from shops to join you. Golems act as additional teammates who all have their own unique attacks with unique tile layouts they can hit. You can also upgrade them with their skillpoints uniquely. So while they don't learn new skills, they can still be useful and serve to help fill holes in your team composition. For example, I got HUGE use out of the first golem you get in the story, Taigalion, because they can power up 2 teammates without having to waste those teammates turns. Or Eternity, a later game golem, who could use Gravity on some bosses to help me cheese the fights. It's neat!

Outside of all that? I'd say the highlights are the graphics and especially the music! The graphics aren't AMAZING but sometimes I think they can look REALLY good. Particularly in the environments! The Ice Castle, the Marsh, the Woods, even just the overworld field all look INCREDIBLE in my opinion! And relistening to the OST now, it's SO good! I forgot how many good songs were in this. Towards Reconstruction, Day at the Academy, and Reborn are all good ones. And the final boss theme was so haunting. And there's more I could praise about the visuals like the cool menu designs, that equipment shows up on your character (which is always a plus) and how cool all the different golems can look! But I think it might be time to move on!

Stuff I didn't like

Yeah it's not perfect. Starting with smaller stuff, there's a bit to be desired on the characters. Reading the manga that came with the game made me really wish they had opted for a more anime look for the humans than the slightly more realistic approach the game has.

And while I DO like the outfits of the main 4 teammates for the most part. I think Raigar's outfit is a little weird. And Makoto (we'll get to him) and Toya, Atsuma's 2 best friends, are just totally dripless. Toya mostly just cause of his rat tail, a better hair cut to fix it. But Makoto. He wears clogs what more do I gotta say?

Okay I'll go into it really quick cause Makoto is kind of a mess. He's a huge homophobic stereotype, I think having a gay teammates RULES! And having him be in love with another team mate is great. But now like this. He's the one with the blonde hair + exposed midriff on the right on the bottom image if you wanna go peek. But he's like, almost a sexual harasser in some ways and he's ABSOLUTELY played as like "ew gross he's GAY zomg 0_o" Even having a stereotype gay voice and GENUINELY saying "YAAAAAAAAAAAS" super high pitched during some of his attacks which is... So nuts that anyone thought this was a good idea. Spoilers but he returns later in the game with a new disguise that's supposed to be straight but has his chest fully exposed revealing a big scar. You failed this so hard, FromSoftware. Like. How? How did you fuck this up?

ANYWAY! outside of that there's some smaller gripes like the voice acting being not super great. Again a lot of the human designs are kinda meh. Stuff like that. But I think I really need to wrap this up by complaining about some serious gameplay issues I have.

So first off, the golems are totally underused. Once I got 4 teammates I VERY rarely found myself ever pulling out my golems again. Which is a shame cause that's such a big mechanic. While I don't totally mind I think being able to upgrade and customize the golems further would have made me care about them in the second act of the game. But even if I were still using them by that point, I doubt I would have been able to OBTAIN much more. I tried to get every golem I found in the overworld. But partway through the game the fights just become such bullshit. ALWAYS letting the golems go first, then wipe your team with instakill attacks. It's so stupid. So a lot of the golems got left behind in my playthrough anyway.

Then there's the gravity status. This becomes less of an issue later when Karin learns a status ailment curing move. But Gravity is a status ailment that means you can no longer move on the grid. EVER AGAIN. Unless you can cure yourself, status ailments never go away. Meaning if someone gets hit by gravity, even an enemy, they are STUCK until they die. Which is great cause it lets you cheese some fights if you get a boss stuck where they can't hit you. But if that happens to you? You're done! Game over!

But where this game really struggles is with balancing. Some fights are INSANELY easy. Letting you breeze through them with no issues. While some fights are insane slogs that take FOREVER to finish. Some big examples are 1-on-1 fights, which usually devolve into whoever goes first (which is ALWAYS the enemy in these cases) winning so you just have to spam health items. But there are more specific cases of weird balancing too. Such as the Warlord of Earth who randomly deals INSANE damage and takes minimal damage themselves. Dragging the fight out FOREVER. Or the first of 8 (YES 8) final boss phases which can only be hit by Atsuma but also instakills Atsuma? So I had to go grind in the fucking casino for HOURS just to build up the money to buy him enough skill points to raise his health high enough to survive that stupid instakill attack (I did 3000 but people were suggesting 7000 hp. It takes FOREVER to do the casino grind by the way. I won't describe it here but good lord.) And it'll always be just for stupid little reasons that you get totally knee capped during a fight like this. It's frustrating. You wanna save your money for weapons and skills but ultimately you kinda need to spend tons of money on items just to be able to survive tons of bullshit.

Now I will say, for all the bullshit with balancing and just roadblocking you with bullshit. Enchanted Arms does a good job at making sure the enemies play the same game as you. Which is something a lot of games struggle to do. Enemies are all susceptible to status ailments, even most bosses. Enemies ALSO have to manage how many attacks they can do before they must recharge like you do. They're susceptible to the same weaknesses you are. Which is nice. Again a lot of games don't do that. But Enchanted Arms does which makes the game just that tiny bit easier thankfully.

I have some other complaints, like, it's an expensive ass game to clear. Requiring TONS of money to buy everything you need, which leads me to believe the casino is required in a weird way which sucks. Or how there's a weakness system but it kind of makes no sense? (If you're weak to something, it means they're also weak to YOU so it's kind of pointless imo). Or the insane amount of tutorials the game tries to give you which ALL devolve into "go here, press A. Done." It's actually more insane than a Mario & Luigi game lmao. But I think we're done here.

Final Thoughts

As I kept writing more and more things to praise and criticize just kept popping into my brain! There's just SO much to say about Enchanted Arms. I'm kind of shocked. There were times I genuinely wanted to snap the disc in half. But now that all is said and done. I really can't help but look back on the adventure fondly. I still feel like I have more to say. I feel like this game is weirdly influential but no one realizes it cause no one played it. I feel like it's such a good game and deserves more attention (IT WAS REMOVED FROM THE XBOX STORE BOOOOO BRING IT BACK) but at the same time it is a clunky game with a lot of short comings. But I still liked it a lot! I'dunno! It's a game that gave me a lot to think about and I think I'll be thinking about it for a long time coming.

At this point I've played 4 Xbox 360 JRPGs. Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Enchanted Arms, and Tales of Vesperia (which I played the Definitive Version but still it started as a 360 game lol) and honestly excluding Lost Odyssey which I hated despite popular opinion. They've all been VERY good. Even Lost Odyssey had high points when it wanted to. So I'm honestly kind of tempted to try and track down and play every 360 JRPG I can get my hands on. Again, it's just a fascinating era for a genre I love. We'll see!

oh ABSOLUTELY it does! One way its probably the easiest type of apocalypses to write abt just cuz there’s already so many and such an established I guess wwww scenario and tropes to it (?) In consequence bc of how ‘easy’ it is, it becomes so damn samey and the zombie apocalypse genre (and apocalypses genres as a whole) gets such bad rep for that reason. [The rest atp is me ranting abt zombie apocalypses specifically those are the ones I have beef with]

When I ask ppl why they don’t like apocalyptic stories most answers is just the amount of carnage that’s in them it’s horrible— to put it better: unnecessary violence in an already terrible world is what they think abt. When people think of apocalypse stories they think of the movies made in Hollywood. Muscular, American white man whos good at everything who kicks ass and saves the world singlehandedly. And the rep for zombie-driven games aren’t any better either… Not saying that stories of kicking ass taking names are ALL bad but most of it is very surface level reasoning as to why . That being said I wish there was more focus on mental health in zombie stories, realisations that the world ended and they’ll never go back to how it was before, instances of the struggles of learning how to adapt to this new way of living. There’s many topics that could be discussed and so many themes that haven’t been fully developed (or done poorly) in zombie apocalypses but seldom media’s deliver u_u

I think the zombie stories that stand out to me the most are the ones that revolve around normal people. There’s an vid essay somewhere that talks abt the success of Train to Busan as a movie, it’s still just as action packed as the ones above but it’s also rly freaking emotional as the characters and cultural themes they represent can hit p close to home for the target demographic. Also I cannot recommend enough Gakkou Gurashi (School Live)! It’s almost never talked about solely cuz of Episode 1 and even now I’m trying to be as vague as I can Please watch that anime/manga you will not regret it.

And finally worldbuilding always a sucker for worldbuilding I need more of it. Not how to stop it but more of How The Hell we fucked up that badly to ended up in this situation. Give me zombie stories of patient 0s, pov scientists fumbling in the lab etc I want THAT. I freaking love the worldbuilding in The Last of Us , such a unique way in designing zombies inspirations from real life (I believe funghi that controls dead ants). That freaking hospital part in TLOU2 will always have a lasting impression on me the environmental storytelling of the flooded hospital and the whole backstory of how the Rat King came to be an amalgamation of all the victims of Seattle’s Patient 0 zone forced to fuse because of the such claustrophobic and wet conditions of the basement OHMYFUCKINGVGG its so well thought out.

Overall my frustrations with apocalypses is just - the amount of untouched potential and themes that SHOULD be addressed but aren’t - to get creative with it. And even without mention of the worldbuilding stories of the average joe like u and I trying to do smth as ‘simple’ as going to the store but there are mental and physical struggles along the way would be fine too - u don’t need to fly a jet and shoot a rocket launcher to make things interesting. Relatability and/or creativity is what I wish.

yesterday evening i tried to make some chocolate chip banana bread! lately i've been really into a really easy mug banana bread so i thought about making an actual loaf! plus i kept seeing lots of yummy banana breads on tiktok and wanted to make one myself!! i haven't made banana bread before so this was my first time!

the recipe was pretty straight forward, though i did make one change. it called for melted butter but i really wanted to try browned butter instead, so i added an extra tablespoon of butter with the 1/2 cup to make up for the water loss. thankfully the recipe had grams listed so 110 grams of melted butter! with the extra tablespoon i added i got 108 grams which i figured was close enough!! it also used 2% greek yogurt which i think helps with moisture for cakes and things... i had to look up if you also bring yogurt to room temperature with eggs and it turns out you do!! the recipe didn't state whether or not the eggs and the dairy had to be brought up to room temp but i thought i should?? anyway here's how it turned out:

most of my chocolate chips sunk to the bottom even though i coated them in flour u_u the bread is really dense and moist.....when i stuck a tooth pick in it last night there were just a few moist crumbs so i do think it's done it's just very moist and dense? <:-3 idk... the crust?? of the bread was kind of hard last night >_< but it tastes softer this morning?? i'm not really sure if i taste the browned butter... i dont really have anything to compare it to so fjdsklaj i'm sure it's doing something... the taste is yummy :-D i have no complaints about that! i think i'd make it again.. i do want a new loaf pan, ours is pretty old...

Putting my thoughts out there just because.

I saw the Wonka trailer yesterday, and have been trying to figure out my feelings/thoughts on it. Now, this is coming from someone who enjoys both the Wilder and Depp version of the movies, but I'm not taking the Depp version into account as THIS movie is meant to be a prequel to the Wilder version.

I am fully aware it's JUST a trailer and the movie itself could be much better, but there's something really off about the whole vibe, and Timothy's performance.

Honestly? It's giving me The Greatest Showman vibes combined with like, that new Dr. Doolittle movie with RDJ. It's all too... polished and soft looking. Like, the movie with Wilder was whimsical, obviously, but it also still felt a little grounded? Even with the whacky and magical moments.

This prequal looks like it's trying to be "wholesome UwU" when the 1971 movie had wholesome moments, yes, but also was somewhat sinister, in a fun way. I understand this Wonka is meant to be younger, so he's not going to be AS cynical as the Wilder version, however, there's still something off about Timothy's performance as of these trailers.

It feels too... bouncy? Like he's putting in too much "oooh, look at how silly and whimsical I am", but not enough "but I might also indirectly harm several children because they're little shits" energy. You know? Wilder was able to pull off the dry humor but also little glimpses of sweet and magical. Timothy's delivery of the "scratch that, reverse it" is what really shows that. He looks like he's trying to do one of those TikTok things where the people are trying to look/move like cartoons.

Also, yes, the original was musical, but the musical moments were also fairly understated. What it looks like we're getting is very production heavy (again where TGS vibes are coming from). Maybe this could work if they show this sort of changing as Wonka gets more cynical throughout (assuming they go that route, which they should). But idk if they're going to.

As of right now, it looks like all the problems that are going to happen are of the silly goofy not too serious variety, solved with a side of "friendship/love solves everything <3". Yes love is an important part of the original movie, but not in the super fake family friendly corporate way. Again, not to say the original isn't family friendly, it is. But it's very different to the "family friendly" of Hollywood today, which want to scrub all darker elements from things. Like that Cruella movie. That lady killed and skinned dogs, but she's "just misunderstood U_U".

If they're tying this to the version of Wonka who sees a kid get sucked up into a chocolate tube and is like "Oh no.... Anyway" about it

Yeah. So, those are my thoughts. I hope what I was trying to say is coming across. This isn't any hate towards Timothy, I've never seen anything he's in, so he could be a fine actor, and again, maybe it improves throughout, but as of right now, he doesn't feel like the right choice for this. And honestly the whole thing feels off, so it might just be the directions he was given. I might see the movie, might not, it depends on if we get better trailers or something later on.

I'm really just gonna go with what's on the top of my head, since finally watching rise myself my TikTok has been full of tmnt content and since the franchise got a bit of a revamp in popularity as well since the movie, i;ve been seeing some slander I can not handle u_u if this are bad takes idk but its an excuse XD Mainly people claiming the 2012 versions of the turtles don't act like brothers at all, that they hate each other. Heavey talks about Mikey being abused even. Spilter playing favorites and looking some is over the top its a show after all. But I'm sorry a lot of the smack talk is no different than me with my own siblings even today with us all as adults. There is just something about being related that makes ya wanna start fights. I even am this way with cousins around my age cause well they were like siblings to me and a bit with my best friend who is basically my sister. Yet I see it so often at least once a day about people just so against thier brother's relationships when not they care about each other and there is a lot of proof to this. Leo got hurt Raph stayed around the whole time they were in a coma. When Raph hugs Mikey because he thought he died. Mikey followed after Leo so they wouldn't go on a mission without backup. Raph not breaking the bro code when Casey asked if April ever talks about him and Raphs tells him Don likes her. There is a lot and I'm sorry but siblings fight it happens. When you and another person spend time together a lot of fighting happens how you handle it after that matters and uh hello most of thier lives they never got to go outside so they are bound to get annoyed with each other. Seth Green did a good job voicing Leo in 2012. In truth, he is my favorite of the three va's Leo had over the show as well. Raph slander (okay so a lot of this is about 2012 right now XD) Raph is normally the big tough guy in the shows and comics after a bit that's been his whole thing. YET this boy is so quick to jump in to fight for his brothers like when Leo got yet through the window, or when Mikey got captured by the yokai. The second his brothers are in danger he's there to protect them. How he may not get donnies crush on April but hell stand by his side. Raph isn't abusive he's the hot head. I'm sorry but when your raised to fight and such and got anger issues? yeah a boy gonna react with his fists and words. Dosen't mean Raph is a bad brother I mean look how he babies his own pets? Hes just not good showing that affection to his brothers as he is the pets that kind of a normal trait even more so for a teen! Tmnt over all: STOP. HYPEING. ONE. SERIES. BY. TRASHING. ANOTHER TMNT has been around for so long there are so many things to get from it shows, movies, comics, and more. There isn't one good version only it's like a buffet of content! I have personally been getting into the comics myself and man the tears I have been spilling over the turtles! Leos best moment is clearly in TMNT vs Batman movie where he kicks Ras a Ghoul in the balls and tells them he's sixteen and learned his finishing move from a rat. I'm sorry that is funny as all fucking hell. 2012 wasn't too anime, I personally loved the break in animation for expressions and such it added to a lot of moments. Baised maybe cause Ciro Neil was part of this version and he also was behind my favorite show SRMTHFG and worked on Teen Titans. SOO Slightly simllair but Rise also! I think the times they didn't animate the characters was used so well my favorite episode I feel is mystic library because I die every time they get taken by the bats ;3; VENUS should get more love! so after playing the demo a few times (though I've not seen all it has to offer yet) I have some Criticisms that I felt like rambling about

First of all, I think the MC brushes off the horrific carnage they witnessed wayyyy too easily. I would have liked for that incident to make a bigger impact on them. You'd think after seeing a ton of people get ripped to shreds in front of you, you'd be a little more affected by it, is all I'm saying.

Second this one is dumb and petty lol... but I honestly didn't like that one line where it was like "I've kissed, been embraced by, and more by people before" cuz it gives off big "NUH UH YOUVE FUCKED BEFORE YOU'RE NOT SOME BLUSHING HUMAN CONTACT-LESS VIRGIN" like that'd be a bad thing somehow. I think it, again, would have been waaayyy more impactful to the scene if MC hadn't had much human touch or contact at all. Also my asexual/demi self was uncomfortable with the implication. I just find it super unromantic in games where MC has been implied to have been in a lot of relationships before. It's just way more romantic if the LI is their first and only love... but maybe I'm just a hopeless romantic like that u_u

I also didn't like the implication cuz like... I thought the MC was considered something of a monster? They even mention they aren't used to compliments. I can't really imagine a moment where they would have been able to get close enough to someone for makeout sessions and fucking. IDK It just ruined a tender moment with Leander for me, like bitch I don't wanna think about my exes while I'm tenderly touching Leander's hand.

EDIT: It's not like it bothered me when Leander was implied to Fuck. Again this is just a Me thing, but I don't mind it if the LI has had relationships before, I just dont really like imagining my MC having failed relationships in the past cuz it just makes me uncomfortable. Weird personal thing! Still would prefer it if that line was changed/removed because regardless that would have been a way more impactful scene to me if the MC has had very little physical interaction with people before... and more romantic uwu

Lastly... I think it's too short. IDK, it feels like scenes end way too fast and I don't really have a moment to enjoy what's happening. I think in particular the scene with Ais at that spring... can't remember exactly what it's called right now. It felt too... crammed in? if that makes sense? Just kind of a breakneck pace and it felt like it was Too Much for what time we'd been given. Just suddenly we're walking back into the outskirts after that traumatic experience (or what SHOULD have been a traumatic experience, again MC recovers from that way too quickly and this scene really hits that home for me) and just as fast we're ushered out back into the city. I know it's at least acknowledged we are kicked out too fast by Ais but I still think that whole scenario either needed to be longer or needed to be cut entirely and replaced with a different introduction scene for Ais.

EDIT AGAIN tbh I think what would help is if the demo took place over two days instead of just one. That way Ais's scene would feel less crammed in, at least to me. Like damn at least give MC a day before they go wandering back out to the outskirts after what happened to them lmao

But this is all just my Opinions... maybe I'm just being nitpicky, and it's not like I didn't enjoy the demo, just that I think it has room for improvement.
