The holy grail of makeup brushes: the Wayne Goss Airbrush. Limited edition rose gold ferrule, nude pink handle. Blue squirrel hair, cruelty free. Hand-crafted by 20 artisans in Japan. Perhaps one of the greatest makeup brushes ever made. A true work of art. This was a gift from a fellow makeup lover and I’m so humbled by her generosity and kindness. The photos do not do it justice. This is the softest material I’ve ever felt. Yes, there are hundreds of more affordable options but there’s nothing like a Wayne Goss Brush. He’s been an idol of mine for a few years now and I literally cried when I opened this box. This brush symbolizes more than just luxury...it’s hard work, passion, humility, creativity, dedication, inspiration, and dreaming big. When I pick up this brush, I know that I can shoot for the stars and I’ll never give up. Thank you to everyone who has stuck by me in the best and worst times. Pretty on the Outside - Beauty for Sick Girls, Pt. 2

Yesterday, i talked about how to make oneself fit for human eyes when one is sick as a cat.  Today was a real challenge, too - like a sick cat, i wanted nothing more than to crawl under an El Camino and die.          BUT - i had Things to do!  Final perfume orders to pack before the Lab gets shipped down to North Caroline (eek!), errands to run, yet MORE bubblewrap to acquire, et al.

And a girl simply CANNOT greet a day like today with a green face, my dear.

And so, i drank coffee & showered myself into some semblance of sentience and pulled myself together - with a little (a lot, let's be honest) help from my friends - if one can count cosmetics as friends.  I know I do.  >_>                                                                                                           And also Husband - who went out and got the coffee AND drove me to the Post Office, which is only two blocks away. <3

Today, i tested out my Guerlain Parure de Lumiere  foundation - by which i mean i needed to see how matchy-matchy it is with my skin now that i've got a bit of colour underneath my sickly pallor - and i wasn't too sure if it would be too pale.

Alas, it was.

However, this foundation oxidizes ever-so-slightly and so blends in almost perfectly after about half an hour; so, while not ideal, it certainly looked good - even very good, which is what one would expect from this foundation, after all.

Now, after trawling my already-weary-at-10-in-the-bloody-morning carcass out of the shower, i realized i had to get it together fairly quickly (am i not always in some kind of terrible rush?).  And, also like yesterday, i have limited energy to devote to my beautification process; but deal with it i must, if i am to confront the world sans the green face.

Today, i wasn't in the mood for doing any dark eyeshadow at all and wanted to have a nice, clean, pastel sort of thing going on to balance out my black cat-eye liner.

You may be wondering why i bother with the cat-eye business, after all isn't it a bit labour-intensive?  But i've been drawing a cat-eye for so many years, i can practically do it in my sleep.                                                  With one hand tied behind my back.                                                           In the dark.

Plus i feel naked without eyeliner - and that simply won't do.  But as for the eyeshadows, well - it's a Hell of a lot easier (and pretty much mistake-proof) to work with pastel/light shadows when you're in a terrible rush and also feeling like Cat Sick.  There's nothing worse than a slovenly shading-job on the eyes because you're all light-headed from inhaling 50 different perfumes and wrapping them all up in 5,000 yards of seemingly endless bubblewrap for the last three hours.

I even got fancy and used three eyeshadows - because it was just that damn easy.

On the lid - Urban Decay SWF - a light, shimmery pink - on the inner 1/3 lid and silvery-grey Inglot #501  blended from the centre to the outer-corner and up into the crease.

Under the brow - lightest shade from the Chanel Prelude quad - a pearlescent beigey-gold.

Eyeliner - Chanel Stylo Yeaux Waterproof in Ebene.

Mascara - MAC Zoom Fast Black Lash.

Brow - MAC brow pencil in Fling. Let's have a moment of silence for all my former insufferably-WAY-too-orange blonde brow pencils - because THIS is a true ash-taupe blonde. HUZZAH!

Super-easy and pretty - and i LOVE that silvery Inglot #501  !  It's so pretty - and the texture is so buttery and smooth.

I'm telling you, it's like BUTTAH.

With the eyes done, i now move on to my problematic Green Face.  The horror.  As i mentioned yesterday, these autoimmune flare-ups really do a number on my skin.  It's patchy and dry, but also clammy and oily within an hour of applying any foundation - which seems to just slide right off after the two hour mark, anyway (this ONLY happens when i'm sick. Go figure).  I look grey under most light, with the exception of the inexplicably red-bits around my nose and cheeks.  To add insult to injury, powder just seems to sit on top of it, exacerbating my deathly pallor like some poor cabaret-dancing trollop straight out of a Toulouse Lautrec lithograph.

And so, the challenge is to even out my skin tone and give it some life, and to keep the bloody foundation on my face.   Usually, my Guerlain Parure de Lumiere does a bang-up job of making me look flawless for many, many hours.  But we are not dealing with usually right now.  It's Twilight Zone time for my makeup, kiddies.

I'm still looking for a foundation that will step up and do the job on my Green Face days.  Currently in the line-up are two that i'll be repurchasing - Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Compact and Vincent Longo Water Canvas.   I've used them extensively before and, because they're both water-based, seem the most likely candidates to be able to deal with my ultra-weird, snobby skin.

I'll report back here with results once i've had a chance to pick them up.

Meanwhile, here we have my skin about two hours into the day - you can see the "clamminess" on my forehead and my nose, and under the eyes - which also now have these little fine lines that seem to show up when i'm sick.  Fabulous!   Also, i didn't have my YSL Touche Eclat on, and it really shows.  My dark circles are pretty brutal, even under concealer and foundation.  Do not ask me WHY i didn't put on my trusty Touche Eclat, - parce que je ne sais pas, mon cheres. Only that, due to all the packing, everything here is chaos.

This is why we can't have nice things.

On my cheeks, i'm wearing (like yesterday - only more heavily applied) Trish McEvoy Peony Pink blush - one of my favourites for counteracting the sickly sallow thing.

The lipstick is MAC Creamsheen Cream Cup - one of my all-time favourite pinky-nudes.

Because when you feel like Cat Sick, it's aaall about comfort and familiarity in the makeup department.  We don't need any unpleasant surprises right now, do we? Not when we're struggling with basic things like foundation.

Despite powdering liberally a couple hours ago and the unseasonably cool temperature today, i'm far shinier than i would like.

As i said - all the usual rules don't apply to my skin at the moment.

What you cannot see in this pic is my husband, who was mugging insanely at the camera like the weird little monkey he is - unfortunately in all those shots, my eyes were half shut or crossed or a bug flew across the lens or what-have-you.

Below, i re-powdered with a luminizing powder, with the idea that this would negate the whole Toulouse Lautrec Cabaret Trollop thing.  This is just to give you an idea of what my skin is supposed to look like, were it behaving like a rational entity.

And there we are!  Another quick-and-dirty FOTD for when we are ill and have the Green Face.

🎆Happy belated New Year!!! Just wanted to say how much I adore and appreciate all of you babes! My 2019 started out with the actual flu, which apparently was an epidemic where I live. Prior to that I took a little mental health break during the holidays, so I hope that you all can bear with me as I begin to revamp my account and produce lots of amazing content for you guys. To everyone that is still here with me, I appreciate you and I can’t wait for you to see what I have in store for you guys this year. Not only are we going to celebrate our love for makeup but also focus on self-care and self-love and being the badasses that we were born to be. 🦃 Happy Turkey Day!!!!🦃 If I listed everything I was thankful for this year, I’d be writing my autobiography. Life is so far from perfect...but it is all amazing. Every. Single. Second. My family, my friends, my health. Fall might be the stereotypical “basic” season, but there’s a reason why it’s so special. There’s a magic that surrounds us, as everything sheds its old skin and prepares for the harsh, cold winter. Nature shows us all the beauty in getting older and evolving. The vibrancy in letting go of the past. The necessity of feeling the cold set in so we can be prepared for warmth. For the first time in many years I can say Fall is exactly as it should be. 🦋The “sick” part of Sick&Pretty🦋 Last night I did something that I rarely do. I touched my neck and chest, where my scar is. Where I found the lumps that made me more afraid than ever. To be honest, avoiding that part of my body didn’t start with the surgery or having “the good cancer.” But years prior. I always saw it as a source of being vulnerable and feeling swollen nodes that would come and go. Reminding me I wasn’t like most people. Then the thyroidectomy happened. And I treated that area like it was toxic, barely putting sunscreen or skincare there. Just looking at it made me feel weaker. _ I’m not ashamed of the scar or my body. I’m proud of it. But the act of touching it makes it very real. I realize I had it good compared to what some people go through. Even my incision site looks great because I had an amazing doctor.So this isn’t a pity post. It’s a “just f’ing face those fears and it’s ok to be vulnerable or weak sometimes” post. A “celebrate small victories” post. It’s also a “bring your skincare, especially your sunscreen, down on your neck and chest because it shows aging” post lol! 🌞 _ I look at the scar everyday and I see a reminder of how strong I am. And how beautiful we all are, particularly because of our battle wounds. It means we are still winning. And fighting. And loving ourselves and others. _ This post probably belongs on a blog (wink, wink😉) and I promise it will be soon. It’s not greasy or oily, it makes your skin feel like silk. Perfect for the harsh winter and removing all that fancy makeup. And the color is totally gorgeous. 5. @dermovia Lace A Peel face mask - a sexy face mask? Kinda. Looks cute but pulling the mask off is the opposite. Does it clean pores? Yes. Does it work a little Too good? Yes. So I actually found a way to use the lace toppers in a different way. I’ll make a separate post showing a different way to use this product. It’s my favorite holiday so I love seeing everyone’s costumes! ...................................... 🔮This year I dressed up as a dark mermaid/sea siren! *See previous post for outfit.* Because I have to get the kiddos ready, I didn’t have too much time to be extra extra...but I still got a little extra. Imagine Will Farrell saying “more cowbell” except it’s me saying...more glitter! 😂 These were taken after trick or treating at the end up the night. It’s the one time we get to openly embrace our shadows, explore the strange and weird. Not to mention we dress up as someone or something else. Push the limits of our creativity. A chance to put on a mask, both literally and figuratively. We dance with the idea of our mortality and embrace the macabre. I love it. Now starts my favorite seasons. I can’t wait because for the first time in a long time, I’m feeling optimistic. Honestly I adore makeup brushes and this is an affordable way to build your collection. October’s brushes are my favorite kind...detail brushes! Perfect for hooded eyes, lower lashes, inner corner, lips, or cut creases. Actually I like all of the brushes this month! 🕸 E25: dual-ended foundation and concealer brush. Could be used for powder under the eyes, blending primers, or just about anything on the face or eyes. 🕸 E30: larger fluffy blender. Love this for blending color all over the eye or softening harsh lines. Really versatile. 🕸 E37: tiny fluffy brush...eeek so cute! Blend a cut crease, lower lash line, brow bone, or inner corner. Or get creative! 🕸E35: teeny tiny little domed brush. I love this kind of brush for doing all the detail work literally anywhere on the eyes, or even your lips. Everyone should have at least two of these little cuties in their collection. Occasionally there’s a brush I don’t love or won’t use but it’s still cool to have access to brushes that I wouldn’t normally buy on my own. Honestly I had no idea that I would be so obsessed with this palette. Like everyone, I was drawn to the colors and I do love Jaclyn’s aesthetic, but I was apprehensive about the formula. Sooooo surprised! Every shade is legit. Easy to blend, pigmented shimmers, and shades to create virtually any look. I can’t say enough good things about this palette.
