This is one of my favorit side controls. Often I have a hard time dealing with a good frame because the person is bigger or stronger. This makes it hard to get a good crosssface.😥⠀ ⠀ ❗The solution I found is to just abandon the crossface and move your body over the framinh arm and take a very high side control. Side control (bottom) Escaping side control can be one of the most frustrating things in Jiu Jitsu. There are various techniques to use as an escape. Here we go. Escapes: Framing is one of the first escapes you learn from bottom side. Your one arm frames your training partner under his neck. Your other arm frames his hip. Then, you have two options. Bridge into your partner and slide your bottom knee to reestablish guard or bridge into your partner and shrimp to belly down to a neutral position. There are also other techniques with framing such as taking the back, reversals and my favorite, the sit up escape like Marcelo Garcia. Attacks: You can also set up submissions from bottom side such as chokes and joint locks. One of my students loves to set up the baseball bat choke from bottom side. He regularly gets it in our training sessions. I personally love the Kimura (shoulder lock) and often execute it from bottom side. Defend from attacks: Defending attacks from bottom side include submissions and position advancement. A lot of submissions defense comes from not moving too much. You never want to move from a position without a purpose. To block your partner from advancing a position also includes hand placement, foot placement, knee and frame placement.
