Update
(Note: this is a long and kinda overshare-y post about getting demotivated. Tldr is I still love this project and am leaving the blog as is in case I want to return to it, but it may be another hiatus for the foreseeable future. Feel free to skim, but it's not under a readmore because it feels too important to hide any longer.)
I hate to say it, but I'm thinking about shelving the pollsim - and this blog project - possibly indefinitely. It's hard to say this, because I still adore Chaosbound with all my heart, and I wanted to see this blog through. We got so close to a few milestones I wanted to meet - like seeing the remainder of the cast, the reveal of a sister blog... I was hoping I could push through to those at least, have a chance to work with some of the cast I don't spend as much time with, help everyone get to see some of the plans I have in the works for the gang.
The problem here is, the operative word became "push" somewhere along the way.
I love Chaosbound. I still love its cast and the work I've put into it and the story I still want to tell. But after burning out in art college, art got harder for me to do. Chaosbound, and this blog specifically, became one of the few things I could put my all into - and if you take a skim through any character's tag, looking at the sprites I made, you can probably tell that.
But somewhere around the ghost event, I got really demoralized. The ghost event was an event meant to encourage a lot of interaction and engagement, something for blog followers to also try to puzzle out alongside the trolls. And maybe this is partially on me for how I presented things, I don't know.
But by this point almost all of my engagement, outside of likes and whatnot, was from the same few people - all of them my friends no less. People in the server I had for the blog at the time. And this is not meant to devalue their input in any way at all. I'm still very appreciative because without them, I probably would have abandoned the event altogether, and may have struggled to come back at all.
But I knew there were others following too. Others interacting, and at points earlier on I'd gotten some wonderful anon messages that I still have saved in my inbox.
But for whatever reason, everyone had gone silent. Watching quietly, waiting to see how things would play out. I was practically relying on prompting friends to send in responses just to move things along, and eventually was forced to give up and have the ghost reveal himself. I was like a puppeteer performing in the spotlight of an otherwise pitch black theater, wondering if I even had an audience to speak of.
I hated working through the ghost event. It was meant to be an exciting part I was building up to, from the start of the blog's inception I had the whole thing planned out. But between being burnt out irl and the passive reception I just. Didn't want anything more than to get it over with.
I went on hiatus. And Tumblr collectively got steadily worse about its responsiveness and support to artists.
When I came back, I thought I was ready. I'd missed Chaosbound and was picking up drawing again, incrementally. Pollsim was meant to be padding for my slow work process, so I could chip away at sprites and event art for my next big reveal. But of course, I signed up for too much. I got too ambitious with the idea, but then also found I was much shakier than I thought.
The votes to decide which troll we'd find were a good amount, though I highly suspect at least a few were just passerby who like to click buttons. But once we actually got things underway, Makkea's first choice poll saw a steep drop in participation. I felt the stress from the ghost event grip me once more. But, I reminded myself, things were just getting started. Maybe people who aren't interested in Makkea aren't voting, and will jump back in later. Maybe I'm not boosting the event enough. Maybe, maybe, maybe.
But I also saw something else happen to me. Now I'm reluctant to pick up my tablet pen. And when I do, I'm always agitated. Angry. Asking myself why I'm even bothering, not just for this blog but at all. Each time I pick up my tablet, I'm suddenly reminded of all the times my art - and these blog events - flopped.
I never thought I'd become the type of artist who relied on the external validation online to do art. For a long time, I wasn't. But art college did something to my relationship with art, and I think creating an art project that intrinsically relied on that external validation was the final nail in the coffin.
I don't want that to happen to me. I don't want to give up art, or to only associate it with stress and rejection and being ignored. And I don't want to associate that with my audience here, either. That's not fair to everyone who's been here, past and present.
A part of me still feels bad for even writing this. For even thinking of posting it, behind a cut or not. I've felt bad for as pushy as I've gotten, about how people need to engage here more often. But keeping this locked up I think only serves to keep the lid firmly on the boiling pot, and I'm tired of it all threatening to explode.
So in short, I'm sorry that this is how things ended up. To those who have been supporting me, quietly, loudly and all the ways inbetween, I'm sorry I couldn't find that as 'enough' - but your support does mean everything to me regardless, and remains why I am still open to the idea of coming back.
The fate of Chaosbound is up in the air. I was hoping the ask blogs I started would be a sort of warm-up to eventually publishing a fan webcomic - a low-pressure venue for character exploration and a way to garner a little audience interest so that, once the webcomic dropped, I knew someone outside my social circle somewhere would be there to see it off on its first day.
I still pick away at Chaosbound, and I still have some assets for the blog that are as yet unposted. A close friend and I have some ideas for pollsim to lead to a potential game, second of its kind for this story in fact. I'd still like to see its realization, and to get the fantroll's stories out into the world, someday. But I have other projects I've been picking at too, so I may just have to give up on regular progress here in exchange for energy to post anything at all.
So, I may randomly post pollsims. I may answer one-off asks I get in the inbox. I may go silent for a year or more inbetween posts. But for now, I really need my art to be for me, and that means I can't hold myself to any external expectations, perceived or otherwise.
If you read this, thank you for doing so. Thank you for your patience, and understanding, and support. Despite how ungrateful I sound, it really has meant the world to me. I look forward to seeing you all where I can, and I hope anything I do come back with does not disappoint.
Sincerely, Mod Caspian

How to Throw an Outdoor “Mask-querade” Halloween Party
Holiday season this year will be a bit different, especially Halloween. We’re used to dressing up, trick-or-treating from house to house in the neighborhood with family and throwing large, fancy costume parties. Due to social distancing, we unfortunately have to cut back. Luckily, Nickell Morgan of Simply Handmade shared her idea of an intimate, socially distanced Halloween gathering right in her yard. Check out how she pulled it off below.
The Planning Phase
For this year’s Halloween Style Challenge, I wanted to do something different. I wanted to be able to spend some time with a select few friends, since we haven’t been able to because of COVID-19. My husband and I came up with the idea of a “mask-querade” party so we can enjoy each other’s company safely!
I was so excited to find out The Home Depot’s entire Halloween collection was available online for me to browse at my convenience, and not have to worry about going into the store. Not only did I manage to snag amazing Halloween items, I also browsed their entire website for gorgeous flatware, and plates to go with the moody theme I wanted to achieve for the dinner party. My friends and family were surprised that The Home Depot had everything I needed to decorate the space, from the Halloween Decor to the flatware!
DIY
I did a few DIYs for this backyard get-together! The first thing I created was the DIY sign using copper piping and plexiglass!
Materials Needed:
18 in. x 24 in. plexiglass
¾ in. copper piping
(4) 90 degree copper elbows
(2) ¾ in. copper T fittings
(2) ¾ in. copper end caps
Rust-Oleum Spray Paint (I used Oil Rubbed Bronze)
Acrylic Paint
Paint Brush
Pipe Cutter
Steel Wool
¾ in. S hooks
Drill and Drill Bit
Instructions:
I painted the design I wanted on the front of the plexiglass with acrylic paint and a paintbrush. Once complete, I spray painted the back of the plexiglass with several layers of spray paint to make it nice and opaque.
Once I had the design the way I liked, I cut the copper down to the sizes (listed below) using a pipe cutter, then assembled all of the pieces. No glue required! You can easily take this apart, or glue to keep it together. It’s totally up to you! I ended up using a ribbon to attach the plexiglass because I didn’t realize my hooks were too small! Make sure you get the hooks where the opening is ¾ in.
(2) 22 in.
(2) 26 in.
(4) 6 in.
Donald and I also tried making a quick and easy canopy over the dinner table, which worked well inside, but with the slope of the yard, it just would not hold up! It ended up falling, and instead of scrapping that part of the project, I hung these curtain lights to incorporate a little of what I wanted. I think it still turned out great!
In order to make these name place cards, I repurposed these backsplash tiles by lightly spray painting them with Rust-Oleum’s Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint. I added the names in copper and bam! Affordable name cards.
Enter If You Dare
We set up the mausoleum archway as the entryway for guests to enter through. My husband and I were able to put this together rather easily! The mausoleum came with instructions or you have the option of downloading the Bilt app for interactive step-by-step instructions, which is so helpful.
Honestly, this mausoleum set the tone for the overall dinner party! It’s definitely the first thing guests will see when they’re coming over.
We played around with headstones and put the zombie girl  in front with some fog using the low lying fog machine, and it looked really cool!
Setting the Table
The next thing I did was set up the dinner area. I went to the flower district in NYC and purchased flowers that gave off moody Halloween vibes. Then, I made the arrangements and moved onto setting the table.
I created some polls on instagram, allowing my instagram family to choose the linens, along with the copper accents, these gorgeous dinner plates, and even the colors of the floral arrangement! Most of what you see here is from The Home Depot. The cheesecloth was dyed black to match the aesthetic, the dinner plates, goblets, and flatware are all from The Home Depot! No, I’m not kidding.
Arranging the Photo Booth Area
I created the copper frame for the photo booth in a similar way as the drink sign a couple years back, and I knew I wanted to use it as a backdrop for this event. Since I already had the white fabric and curtain lights attached, I just added black sheer fabric I had laying around along with the skull and chains (similar) I got from The Home Depot a few Halloween’s back. Also, I added the zombie girl, her zombie sister, tombstones, skulls, a skeleton, and the head of a zombie horse I also received from The Home Depot a few years back.
This is specifically where I wanted all of the Halloween decor to shine! I set up a little graveyard area and used the Halloween decor as props to use. Everyone was thoroughly entertained by the creepy sisters, especially.
The Final Reveal
The final look of the space was magical, especially at night. The soft light from the curtain lights coupled with the dark colors, and Halloween decor made the space just gorgeous.
I hope you’re inspired to decorate your space – whether indoors or outdoors for Halloween! Check out my YouTube channel if you’re interested in seeing videos of  how the products look and sound on camera!

I was absolutely elated when the lovely Laura from Pink Parcel contacted us to review for them. This is a Box that consistently scores in the top 3 of our group Polls. I am aware of how big they are as a company, I have subscribed to them too and enjoyed their boxes.
We are an up and coming group, with growth levels at a high rate. So to be noticed by the bigger brands, which is happening more frequently now; is simply amazing for the BoXession Team. We will be running a competition to WIN the October Pink Parcel Box, which starts on 9th and runs through to the 15th, so don’t forget to enter… its FREE!
I unboxed LIVE on the BoXession Group, with the most viewers I have ever seen for an unboxing! Which made me a tad nervous. This has now been uploaded to our YouTube Channel which you can view by clicking play below…
So this is how the boxes from Pink Parcel arrive every month…
I personally love the way that they all slot together like a little jigsaw. How they fit all of this into the boxes must take some serious skill! The packaging is very discreet so no need to worry that the Postie will know what is in there.
Every month a drawstring bag is included. I have a collection of these. I keep one in each of my Bathrooms, and my handbags and luggage for when I go away. I love the idea of them, especially for younger girls. Pink Parcel have a sister company – Betty Box. The boxes are the same size, but the contents and packaging of Betty Box are aimed at a younger audience. Fingers crossed we can review that one for you too!
The cost of Pink Parcel is £12.99 per month, this includes P&P. We have an exclusive discount code which is ‘BoXession2017’ for 20% off!. This makes your first box only £10.39!! BARGAIN!
They have 3 delivery dates in the month. Beginning, middle and end. So when you sign up you select the date of your next period, and your box shipment will automatically arrive in time for that date.
If you are like me and have no patience, you will select the first two days in the month so that you get to see the contents before everyone else as you cannot stay away from spoilers! haha!
You can choose which brand and type of sanitary product you wish to be included in the box, and also which flow. This is tailored to fit you, you can also edit it for the next month, or request a mixture in flow absorbency. Amazing, right?
So What’s in the Box?
MUA Luxe Whipped Velvet Blush – Full Size – RRP £3
Urban Veda Facial Wash – Travel Size 20ml – Full size £12.99 for 150ml so worth £1.73
Cougar Mineral Eyeshadow – RRP £12.99 for set of 3 – worth £4.33
Trifle Cosmetics Lip Parfait (Exotic Fruits) – Full Size – RRP £15
Blank Canvas Face Brush (F01) – Full Size – RRP £14.81
Raw Halo Chocolate Bar – 35g – RRP £2.79
T+ Teabag, Green Tea – RRP £ 3.69 for 15 Bags – worth £0.25
Total Value = £41.91
Sanitary items I received:
21 Tampax Compak – Regular
5 Night time pads
5 Panty Liners
Now I cannot put an exact cost on these, but for a box of 20 Tampax Compak Regular in Boots will cost you £2.90. The beauty of it for me is not really the value of these items… it is the convenience of not having to remember to buy them, and certainly not having to send the other half out on a mission to the shops should you forget and run out, gasp! We have all done this ladies, imagine their poor red faces at the counter ha ha! I did laugh then (a little).
My Favourite item by far has to be the Blank Canvas brush. Not only is it huge, but its beautifully well made and retails at more than the cost of the entire box. One of the questions I ask members on the BoXession group a lot is what are your favourite items to receive in a Box… well brushes are one of mine! Not only does it tick the boxes for me (no pun intended), but it is also a vegan and cruelty free brand. Top marks from me here Pink Parcel!
The Trifle Cosmetics Lip Parfait is a close second place, with its RRP at £15 we are now almost TREBLE the cost of the box after just 2 products plus the sanitary items. I have had one of these before and loved it. I used it as a carry around lip balm so to speak. But I imagine for the more neutral colours you could also use these as a lip primer under a matte or liquid lip to avoid drying out your lips. I really love Trifle packaging, friendly on the environment and very eye catching. I would like to see more items from this brand in Pink Parcel (hint hint).
You can never go wrong with everyday items in a box that will get used, and not only that, but when they are the perfect size for a week away or a weekend, this is even more popular with me. I like to travel, and I have 2 boys. My luggage capacity is often overtaken by my partners love of fishing (sob). So when I get items such as this that fit into my travel bag neatly I absolutely love them. Sometimes for me it isn’t always about getting all full size products in a box, but more about what I WILL use. I have used Urban Veda Facial Washes before, but not this one specifically.
MUA LUXE are a brand I am already familiar with. They are available from High Street Drugstores at a small price tag. I am happy that the colour of mine is more of  dusky pink as I do not suit peach. I have swatched this and love the colour, it is definitely buildable. I would buy this product again. I love their lip primers and velvet mattes, and they do an Inkd lip stain that is one of the best I have ever used. I am a true believer that if something is cheap it doesn’t always mean the quality is bad.
The Cougar Mineral Eyeshadow is part of a set of 3 that you can buy directly from their website for £12.99 with the little applicator. I am not worried that it doesn’t cone with the brush as I have lots of good eye brushes. This in my opinion is a great base shadow to be applied after primer. You could apply bright colours over it to make them stand out, or pop as they say these days. If you wanted to use it for a very simple everyday look then you could. It is great when boxes include items that suit every taste. One of my secret (not so secret) pet hates, is when you get like a bright yellow eyeshadow or a blue lipstick. I am sure that this is ok for some people, but 98% of us wouldn’t use them. Cougar lipsticks are also fab Pink Parcel… not that I am hinting again or anything ha ha!
Last but by no means least are the food items. I was so relieved when I saw the Chocolate Bar in this months box. I am not shy, and I often speak to members about things I like and dislike. One of the things I dislike is healthy food. Listen, I am happy with curves… yes I said it out loud. I couldn’t get through life without something sweet. I will never be a supermodel and that is perfectly ok by me (she says with a mouth full of the stuff). I wasted no time in eating this! Ok, maybe 5 minutes max. Well played Pink Parcel, I would have hated to have been ranting about granola bars in a review ;).
I do not drink tea, I cannot survive without Coffee; and therefore the BOOST Green Tea will not be used by me, but likely sent in my next swap parcel to fellow Blogger and Admin Michelle.. who loves a cuppa! In the grand scheme of things, I know that they always have Tea in the boxes, and it doesn’t put me off in the slightest.
My Verdict?
This month’s box is one of the BEST I have had from Pink Parcel. You have made what I do so easy, as it is love and passion that drives me to write, and to Blog about this was an absolute pleasure.
Pink Parcel are one of the cheapest boxes out there, and for what you get as you can see above, is approximately 4 times what you pay. With our discount code buying this box is simply a no brainer. £10.39 for ALL OF THIS?! The one thing I hear the most from people is ”oh I don’t use the sanitary items” … donate them! Food Bank, Homeless Hostel, Women’s Refuge and so on. Then you can keep the treats AND feel good that you did a kind thing.
Once again the discount code for 20% off is ‘BoXession2017’ it is only valid for a month, so you can get this box above, and limited number of uses on the code ladies… so time is of the essence. The links are below for their Website and Social Media.
Thank you my lovelies as always…
