Alright, I know I’m late to the party, but hear me out - what about an au where, first and foremost, Prime!Georgiou didn’t die because she was awesome and deserved better, and actually got to continue to mentor Michael and continued to build a rich and beautiful friendship. Michael made a mistake, which is understandable, and was busted down in rank but not called a traitor and was able to continue under Georgiou as Captain.
Then, second of all, have it that Prime!Lorca was BFFs with Georgiou and Pike bc they all went to the academy together, and as soon as Mirror!Lorca showed up, both Georgiou and Pike went “Uh no, this isn’t Gabriel Lorca” and instead locked Mirror!Lorca up and mounted a rescue mission to the mirror verse with the Discovery and the Enterprise to save their best friend?
Like why can’t we have this healthy model of loyalty and positive human emotions to let Michael start her journey to greatness? She sees how vastly different Pike, Georgiou and Lorca are with their personalities, but how they’ve all achieved greatness in their own way and all value each other - and then she realizes that Tilly’s enthusiasm has its own illogical value and that she should broaden her horizon and risk things as well?
Don’t get me wrong, the edgy antiheroes from the mirrorverse are fun sometimes, but I’d like some positive role models and painful but gradual growth. I want Prime!Georgiou. I want her to be three dimensional and bad ass with her own motley group that she went through fire with that the rest of the Discovery gets to meet and learn from and from that find their path to greatness.
Or heck, maybe its the prequel, the Shenzhou is Georgiou’s ship, she and Pike with the Enterprise go over and rescue Prime!Lorca and after that experience, Michael learns what she needs to to trust herself and jump out of the nest. And just right out of the gate is made captain of the Discovery when it’s commissioned and put in charge of the crew and slowly becomes best friends with Tilly even though she’s a cadet because she’s learned friendship doesn’t care about rank or even dimensions. I don’t know I have a lot of thoughts about the possibilities of this that I’m sure no one cares about, but still.
Where’s this au? Can someone write this? Pretty please?

2, 4 and 11 for the book asks :)
[2. already answered]
4. Did you discover any new authors that you love this year?
i have mentioned her already but i will definitely be reading through more of silvia moreno-garcia's books, even though i'm a bit worried because i know some or her other books are more horror leaning. i'm also keen to check out more of tillie walden's graphic novels and mike chen's non star wars books
11. What was your favorite book that has been out for a while, but you just now read?
i could pick a few things i've already mentioned but i think i'll go with the brooklyn brujas series by zoraida cordova (even though i still haven't finished it yet). i love how she weaves magic with family and culture, and ultimately, love. they're not as incredible as her adult stuff but pretty good ya books

Ok o definitely think the alternate fascist timeline was way cooler than the 2024 plotline and I’m sad they left it after only 1 episode.
In general, I love the mirrorverse, I love seeing characters who were raised to value empathy, community and diversity are shown as the same people but raised with very different values. I love thinking about how our environment shapes our belief system (sidenote: that’s also why I’m such a Klingon apologist, it’s not their fault that they were raised to be militaristic!!!!). I also love the trope of when good people have to pretend to be their evil counterparts. Like you see the sweetest characters you’ve ever seen pretend to be evil fascists in front of other evil fascists but then when it’s only them in the room they revert back to their original personalities. Like when Discovery went into the mirror universe and actual cinnamon roll Silvia Tilly had to pretend to be Captain Killy!!!! The drama of it all, the heightened tension, the potential for comedy!!! And I really liked seeing Seven and Picard pretend to be the president and the commander, that was so cool. Anyways I’m rambling here but PIC S2Ep2 remains Superior thank you and goodnight

PORTRAYAL NOTES: this blog is heavily influenced by star trek discovery. while i'm a huge fan of snw's other characterizations and the show itself, i'm not such a huge fan of the way they write pike. therefore, please respect that my pike more closely resembles disco!pike. i am a huge fan of his relationships on the show though! and of every snw character!!

*while i love strange new worlds as a show, i do not love their portrayal of pike. i find him dumbed down, unprofessional and a bit silly. i also prefer to tie in his choice to accept his future to his commitment to his crew on discovery, not because kirk is actually the greatest captain ever and needed for the future (i really hate the season one finale). but as i said on top, i do love snw, and i'm not going to be posting a lot of critical stuff here cause that's not my style. i just wanted to put this here to explain why I'm more attached to disco!pike. thank you for checking out my blog, have a nice day!

When Christopher Pike took command of the Discovery:
Tilly babbled away nervously and was the centre of attention.
Pike himself was amused.
The crew... had different reactions.

Lorca: Would you guys be there for me if I was going through something?
Saru: Nope, absolutely not.
Hugh: I hope it sucks, whatever you're going through.
Michael: I hope it emotionally scars you for the rest of your life.
Tilly: I hope you reach out to me so I can ignore you.
Paul: I can't wait to go to your funeral, knowing I could have changed that outcome.

Tilly.
That is all.
You know what no that isn't all .... I have related to Tilly since like day 1. She is this wonderful neurodivergent, "over weight" (really she isn't but by the idiotic standards and especially Hollywood standards -and honestly all of Trek previous casting standards - she would be considered such), brilliant character. From the moment she is introduced she is awkward and kind and amazing and determined.
She's grown every season into a wonderful officer who has learned from each situation she's been in. Whose not "adapted and overcome" her traits or neurodivergency. No, she still very much is who she is and every aspect of it makes her the officer she is to this day. And when they are flung into the future and tossed into a nightmare situation she keeps charging forward. She didn't get to really stop and think.
Everyone last season was dealing with the past trauma while having the new trauma of loss and holy shit the universe is broken tossed at them. They barely got to stop. Think. Heal. (As stated on the latest ep "per Culber's recommendation" the crews getting the chance to talk out that stuff THIS season - off camera - and relax - on and off camera - now, they got a bit last season but while threat is immenient this season they are getting the chance to relax).
The thing for Tilly though ..... she got promoted. Again. Last time she was though, her family was there. Her mom. She was home, in the past. She could message home and update everyone. There was no big loss. Now though, so much has happened and yet good happened for her. She needed to find herself, and I get that. This season has been hitting me because I lost someone literally the same time the season began.
I turned the show on, hoping for distraction, and hit with the lose the show presented us. And now, here I am at Tilly leaving the ship and I'm just here like "lol me too, Tilly". Because during all this lose for me I've been promoted. I've been invited to an honors society. I've passed my classes. And I'm just here trying to feel about any of it, trying to connect again: just like Tilly.
Only ... I can't go teach at Starfleet Academy and reconnect, pass on my experiences and be seen.
I have to reconnect some other way.
Honestly, the way Discovery is managing to give 40 million versions of the same lessons is killing me (lose and grief is a major thread within this show).

Jett Reno has a cold or the flu please?
So...I sorta couldn’t decide how I wanted to do this one. So you get two options. Vote on your favorite or something. cw for a bit of language.
1.
“AACHOO!”
Tilly jumped at her station in engineering at the extremely loud noise. The sneeze was followed by the sound of someone attempting to hack up a lung and finally a low moan. Across the room Stamets slammed his hand down on the console panel.
“Why do you insist on reporting to duty if you’re this sick?” he asked, annoyed as he glared at the source of the disruption.
Jett Reno was hunched over her console. Her face was both pale and flushed at the same time and she kept wiping liquid away from her nose with the wrinkled sleeve of her uniform jacket. Another sneeze came before she answered sluggishly, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Reno, report to sickbay now.”
“For what?” A hacking cough followed. “The Captain wants this done asap. And you both know I can do this faster than the two of you combined.”
Stamets made a face and glowered. “Go to sickbay!”
“So that puppy you call a husband can force me to be injected with only stars knows what? No thanks. I’ll stick to getting my job done.” With a sniff, Jett added, “Unlike you.”
Before Stamets could explode, Tilly interjected. “Jett, you seem really sick. We just don’t like to see you suffer.”
There was a mumble from the astromycologist that appeared to be in disagreement to Tilly’s statement, but both women ignored him. Jett let out another sneeze. “I’m not sick. His little creatures are giving me allergies.”
“For the last time! They are not creatures!”
“Says the Daddy Creat-” a coughing fit overtook her once again.
At this point, Stamets was even starting to look a little concerned. For the project of course, not the pain in his backside that was Jett Reno. He said, “You can’t possibly work like this.”
“Challenge accepted.”
“Jett, go to sickbay,” urged Tilly. “If you have to, just tell them that we’re working on a top priority task, and that you need something to help you get through the next few hours.”
Jett thought this through for a moment. She hated it when Tilly sounded reasonable like her late wife. Then with a shrug, and another cough, she conceded, “I’ll go to sickbay. But only because you two nutjobs won’t shut the hell up and let me work. You’re distracting.”
Stamets didn’t even hide his eyeroll as she slunk out of Engineering.
2.
“Stamets to Reno.”
“Reno come in.”
“Tilly to Reno.”
“Jett are you okay?”
“Lieutenant Commander Stamets to Commander Reno.”
“Reno, this is your last call!”
Under a mountain of blankets, a hand stretched out to slap the communicator sitting on the bedside table.
“What the fuck do you want?”
There was a pause before Stamets replied, “You’re an hour late to your shift. Where the hell are you?”
“I’m in bed. Leave me the hell alone.” With a groan, Jett pulled her body into a sitting position. A wave of dizziness came and went and her lips were chapped. She should probably drink some water, but that would mean going across the room to the replicator.
“Well while you were having a sleep in, the rest of us have been working overtime. Get down here, now!” crackled the voice on the other end of the communicator.
Before she answered, she let out a series of body shaking coughs. She really had it bad this time. The last time she had been this sick had been five years ago. Her wife had worried over her, which had been both annoying and endearing. Now, there was no one to worry. But there was certainly someone who was being annoying.
“Reno? Answer me.”
“Get a life, bug brain. I’m going back to bed.” First, she needed to hydrate. Then she would go back to bed.
“Why do you sound like that?”
“Fuck off. Reno out.” Another coughing fit came over her. The energy to get up and get that glass of water had left her, so she buried herself back into the blankets.
It was the door chime that woke her next. Or several consecutive chimes of the door woke her. Groggily, she tried to sit up but failed. She could just make out the voices on the other side of the door.
“Just use your override!” came a male voice that Jett absolutely knew because she had just heard it over the communicator.
“I’m not going to barge into an officers quarters unless I know something is wrong.” The second male voice belonged to the husband.
“But we do know something is wrong! She didn’t show up to work.” Ah. Tilly. Cute kid.
“Tilly, I appreciate your concern, but I can’t just go barging into people’s quarters without their permission.”
“She could be dying!”
There was bit more hushed argument before apparently Culber was worn down by the other two into using his medical override to enter her rooms.
“Jett? Jett!” Tilly appeared at her bedside in a bounce of red hair.
“Thought I told you to fuck off,” croaked Jett.
“No, you told Stamets to fuck off,” answered Culber, running a bioscanner over her blanket covered body. “You have a fever and a severe upper respiratory infection.”
“Hhmm.”
“Can you fix her?”
“Paul, people aren’t engines.” Jett imagined Stamets glared, because Culber grumbled, “But yes, I can fix her. Tilly, get her some water.”
A cool glass was shoved into her hands and someone helped her sit up enough to drink the water. Her earlier assessment that she needed hydration proved to be true. Tilly put a wet towel around the back of her neck and Jett could feel her body instantly begin to cool.
“If you had come to me earlier, we could have prevented it from getting this bad. I will give you something to prevent break the fever and keep pneumonia from setting in, but you’ll have to ride the rest of this out on your own,” Culber told her gently before the sting and hiss of a hypospray touched her neck.
“I’ll stay with her,” volunteered Tilly.
Stamets shifted uncomfortably at the foot of the bed before letting out a deep sigh and heading over to the replicator. “Paul Stamets Soup Recipe Number Four.”
He brought the bowl to Tilly, practically shoving it at her, and said, “She needs to eat.”
“Mr. Bedside Manners is right, she should eat.” Culber looked amused at his husband’s actions. “Let me know if she gets worse.”
The two men left, leaving Tilly to raise the spoon up to Jett’s lips. The older woman frowned. “I can feed myself.”
“Of course you can!” answered Tilly brightly, but still stubbornly held on to the spoon.
“Tilly?”
“Yes?”
“I’m sorry if I told you to fuck off.”
The laughter that followed almost made Jett smile.
