When you try to start playing sims again but you're a UNIX based OS user and you forget that downloading a ton of shit onto a Windows PC just willy nilly is a BAD IDEA

So you have to figure out *(more like your windows programming background bf does and you help when he gets frustrated)* how to make a boot key and completely clean reinstall windows... Like, I'm not SURE it was anything from the mods, but I did go from ridiculously good performance on anything I did to... bad. on anything. Carpenters' Hall - 30x20 (NO CC)

Carpenters' Hall in the Sims 4! Carpenters' Hall is a historic landmark - it hosted the First Continental Congress in 1774 and was home to Ben Franklin's Library Company, The American Philosophical Society, and the First Bank of the US (Source), just to name a few.

This building was historically used for different purposes, and its Rooms were rented out by different organizations. During the Revolutionary War, part of the first and second floor was used as a hospital. Ben Franklin's Library Company occupied the second floor until Dec 1791. The American Philosophical Society "rented the first floor West Room" from 1780-1789 (see the full timeline of Carpenters' Hall).

References: The official floorplans for the building are available here (Philadelphia Buildings and Architects). I referenced these floorplans alongside this essay on Carpenters' Hall by Charles E. Peterson (published in The American Philosophical Society's Transactions Vol. 43, Part I; accessed via the National Park Service archives), which includes written accounts of Carpenters' Hall as described by John Adams and others, and which ultimately served as my guide.

I tried to recreate Carpenters' Hall as it might've looked during the Revolutionary War, but because the building was undergoing changes during the War (i.e. its occupants, the state of the building itself), as well as the limitations of the game, this is not a completely accurate representation of Carpenters' Hall (see notes below cut).

This build combines some of the Hall's multifunctional purposes during the Revolutionary War: as a meeting place, infirmary, and Library. For some areas (i.e. the cellar, the garret/attic, etc; bathrooms are included for Sim functionality and gameplay), creative liberties were taken.

Notes:

I've placed tiles in the first floor hallway (the entire first floor of Carpenters' Hall is tiled), but those tiles were installed after the Civil War (Source) and likely would not have been there during the AmRevolution. I've included the tiles in the hallway in homage to this.

The first floor was, presumably, once partitioned by walls - to serve as rooms for tenants, such as The American Philosophical Society, who "rented the first floor West Room" - however, these walls no longer exist in the present day. You can see where walls once stood in these floorplan drawings of the first floor (indicated by the dotted lines).

There are many smaller rooms on the second floor (as seen in these floorplans) that are nondescript and could've been used simply as storage space. To represent the multifunctional purposes of Carpenters' Hall during the War, as well as to fit the gameplay needs of Sims, I turned them into functional spaces: infirmary, extra beds, full bath, study/desk room.

The library on the second floor (off-limits to the public) is based on the available photos on their website: carpentershall.org. This library, as seen in their photos, really belongs to The Carpenters' Company - and not Ben Franklin's Library Company. You can read more about the history of The Carpenters' Company library here. For the purposes of this build (and in-game), the library is one and the same.

The third floor (the attic space within the roof; the support beams, framework, etc) is omitted due to game constraints.

CDK/MoneyMAT: “SimoCoin” & Bonus Recolors

Published: 2-18-2025 | Updated: N/A SUMMARY MoneyMAT is a collection of modified objects for financial operations and storytelling in your game. The series includes functional cash clutter, as well as tools for banking, loans, and investments. #CO2MONEYMAT This is a crossover with the #CO2CDKSERIES. Cubic Dynamics by John B. Cube and Marcel Dusims forged the future with furnishings that were minimalist in design and maximalist in erudite pretension. Generations later, the company continues to produce edge-of-cutting-edge designs. Inspired by the Sims 4: Businesses & Hobbies EP (EA/Maxis, 2025), I’ve added the “SimoCoin” currency to Version 2 (V2) of the Cashpointe Set (Simmons, 2024-2025). In addition to coin, bag and sign recolors, there are three new investment items worth §1000, §3,000 and §6000 respectively. The sign recolor uses the “grilled cheese” poster from the Nightlife EP.  These items have been added to the “moneyMat” collection file and use the same trait-based autonomy as the rest of the V2 collection. As a bonus, you also get some additional banking-themed recolors (see pics below).

Am I a sellout? Maybe lol.

Welp, I bought the Sims 25th birthday bundle thing on Steam, it was 60something. It included Sims 2 and all the packs&stuff packs, and it included the original Sims game and all it's packs, as well as some sims 4 kits(which I don't care about and didn't want in the first place, lol) Now, before I get polverised by the entire sims 2 community here... yes I've been reading what people have to say, I've been reading about the concerns, I've been reading about the warnings...yes I'm aware of both games being available for free on the internet. I was one of the people who switched over to Linux to be able to play TS2 and I don't plan on going back at all to playing it on my windows desktop... HOWEVER, I do want to be able to play it on my laptop. I recently got a new laptop on Black Friday in 2024. I tried Osab's installer, and all the fixings for it, it still did not work and there was tons of pink flashing as soon as I put my cc and mods in.

So, I pondered putting Fedora on my laptop too but, I have to use this laptop for work, and tbh I rather not have to switch to windows and linux to work and then play.. it's just... annoying tbh. I still have windows on my desktop and it's been almost a month since I've logged onto that partition...I'm considering making the full switch on this computer to just linux and use my laptop for windows stuff. But, in all honesty...my biggest reason for buying it is because, as I've mentioned before in a previous post back in December... I have a huge medical surgery coming up, a kidney and pancreas transplant. It's going to require me to be 7hrs away from my home for three or four months... I thought about getting my boyfriend to bring my whole ass desktop down for me when I get settled into where I'm staying... but IFFFFF I can play sims on my laptop without issue then that would be perfect. But again, I don't want to put linux on it so when I saw that EA was planning on doing the re-release I was skeptical, sure but, I thought it would be a good solution to my worries about not being able to play Sims when I was away from home....but, now that it's available, of course I'll throw my money at EA. It's not like I haven't before when the sims 2 first came out, it's not like I didn't hand them my dubloons when Sims 3 was being released, and then bought some sims 4 packs.. even though I barely axtually played the game, but mostly just built in it for my YT channel.

I know most people won't givve a shit about who buys the re-release but I've just seen so many people hating on it and I feel a little wierd because I genuinely don't like EA as a company, at all but here I am giving them money that could be used elsewhere in my life. But alas, here I am.. about to dive into the sims 1 like it's 2002, to hear that sweet sweet sound of "EA Games, Challenge Everything" and let my mind melt into its childlike form.

funnily enough, this wasn't a reference i used for the build. i found it on google 30 seconds ago. queen anne was not a woman with a lot of range lol.

here's a cutaway of the first floor. i decided to go with the pink/green color scheme that was big in the 1980s because the tackiness of it speaks to me. the upstairs rooms (so, the ones i posted yesterday) went in a more contemporary direction, but i like that it's 1880s on the outside, 1980s on the inside. i also sized up a fish tank and stuck it in the dining room. that was fun.

and here's a closer look at the kitchen and the partition separated office space. 50s throwback diners were huge in the 80s!

i stuck with a more closed off floor plan, because that's typically something you see in older homes, but it made taking screenshots a bit awkward. that said, living and dining room:

i made a media stand for the tv with cabinets lol.

this was fun. i generally don't make play-friendly residential lots in the game – usually they're either community lots, or "set pieces" that are more for my own enjoyment than they are, yknow, practical. but i might do this more often!

Depuis aussi longtemps qu'il s'en rappelait, Elois voulait se marier et avoir des enfants. Il voulait cette belle vie de couple qu'avaient ses grands parents, sa tante, ses mères et toutes les héroïnes des livres d'amour qu'il lisait. Il était beau, qu'il se disait objectivement en se regardant dans le miroir, il faisait du sport, il avait un beau sourire donc franchement il pensait sincèrement qu'il pourrait y arriver lui aussi à avoir cette belle vie. Ses amis autour de lui trouvaient l'amour, se mariaient. Lui avait une petite amie, qui le quittait plus une autre qui le trompait, bref, pendant un temps, ce fut pas mal compliqué.

Et puis il y eut Emma. Et ce fut encore plus compliqué. Emma était belle, douce, pas gentille par contre, toujours à lui faire des remarques. Elle aimait sortir, elle aimait faire la fête, elle entraînait Elois alors qu'il ne voulait que renter pour travailler. Il était épuisé par son boulot mais elle préférait aller boire des verres que de passer une soirée tranquille à la maison. Mais Elois était fou d'elle. Il préparait tranquillement sa demande en mariage, quand Emma lui annonça qu'elle était enceinte. Et si lui était fou de joie, elle beaucoup moins. Ce fut très dur à accepter pour elle, si tôt dans leur relation. Elle arrêta ses études, se mit à la peinture pour se détendre, mais rien n'y faisait. Elle feignait être heureuse dans cette belle vie que Elois voulait tant pour eux. 

Quand la petite vient au monde, ce fut pire. Emma rejetait tout simplement l'enfant. Elle ne s'en occupait pas, ne pouvait pas rentrer dans la nurserie et l'entendre pleurer, crier, changer les couches, jouer avec elle. Elois, désolé, ne savait pas quoi faire pour aider sa conjointe. Ils tentèrent les week end séparés, puis ensemble en famille, ils déménagèrent même, mais rien n'y fit. There are six main types of shophouses throughout the early history of George Town, Penang, Malaysia. However, the primary structure featured in this environment will reflect the "Late Straits" Eclectic style, representing the Hokkien family's kopitiam or coffee shop before the Second World War.

Shophouses are buildings where the front section of the ground floor was typically used as a family-run shop, while the rear area served as semi-public spaces such as kitchens or dining areas. The upper floor was reserved for the family's private living quarters. These buildings were typically two stories high, although wealthier families or more prosperous areas could afford structures that reached up to three stories. Common Chinese characteristics remained, such as intricately carved wooden doors and ample ventilation openings in the building's structure to allow hot air to escape. Between the 1910s and 1930s, as mentioned in previous blogs, the Chinese community played a key role in the economic development of Malaya, which allowed many to accumulate wealth. This prosperity led to the renovation or construction of more elaborate shophouses, as the level of decoration often reflected the owner's wealth status. As a result, many buildings from this period display clear European influence, with imported elements like western styled stucco decorations and decorative glazed tiles.

There is also a noticeable shift in shophouse design between the 1840s and the 1890s. This change is largely due to new building regulations that required more durable construction materials such as bricks and tiles.

Additionally, the British colonial government implemented the "five foot way" rule, which required shophouses to include a covered walkway on the ground floor to protect pedestrians from sun and rain. These regulations gradually shaped the architecture of shophouses into more westernised forms, blending local culture with colonial influence.

Another way they allowed ventilation into the building was by having an open courtyard in the middle of the structure, commonly known as an air well. This space lets cool air flow in while allowing hot air to rise and escape, helping regulate the temperature inside naturally. Some of the air ventilation shapes were build to look like lucky insects and shapes such as butterfly and bats' wings.

The building would primarily be constructed using four main materials: timber, clay, lime, and stone. Timber was widely used throughout the structure, including the wooden exterior façade, staircase, interior roof framing, carved screens, partition walls, and upper floorboards. Stone served as the foundation, and was also used for decorative elements, corbels, stairs, and parts of the building's façade. Clay was shaped into bricks, terracotta roof tiles, floor tiles, and air ventilation pieces. Lime played an important role in allowing underground moisture to rise and naturally evaporate, which was especially necessary since George Town, Penang was built on swampy ground. It was also used as a binding agent for joining bricks, decorations, and other building elements.

A 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom, off-the-grid house!

The bathroom is just outside of the greenhouse, with a composting toilet, and the tub and shower are in the middle of the greenhouse! Imagine having a living floor, moss or clover or something soft and short (or maybe a combo of things) and stepping out into it after bathing!

The walls of the greenhouse are partially bale and cob, but I imagine using corrugated plastic on the inside and outside of the studs to make the rest of the wall, and then to do the ceiling, as well. (I'm probably explaining this poorly but I saw it done on Homestead Rescue, Misty double-layered the plastic to create an insulating effect like windows have.) Then there would be raised beds around the edges of the room.

The kitchen is sunken down 2 feet below the rest of the house to make use of the Ondol system for heating! I've loved the idea ever since I heard about it!

There's also a root cellar off of the kitchen, 6 feet deeper underground, making it a total of 8 feet below the main house, though it's not beneath the house, allowing for a garden, or water catchment storage, on the ground above it!

The exterior and bedroom walls are 1 foot thick, as well, intended to be done with bale and cob. There is some leeway with how the interior walls are done, while the bedroom walls are intended to be the same as the exterior walls with bale and cob, the other walls can be done with wattle or just standard walling, for instance, and the partition between the living room and kitchen could be left partially open between them, with a window or a half-wall, or it could be a solid wall, depending on what one desired at the time of building. I personally imagine the half-wall.

And not to forget the little area off the bedrooms on the outside of the house! That is intended to be storage for outdoor equipment and tools! There's room for wood storage in the kitchen xD

To note, each grid square is 2 feet. That's why I don't clutter the plan with numbers, because I always use that system for my plans. (One from the other day that I haven't shared yet has measurements written but it looks kind of bad with them. That's why I decided to omit them.)

This is my fave hobby, designing floor plans for houses I'll never actually be able to build xD (I could build it in the Sims 4 I suppose, but it never quite looks how I imagine it.) in the past week I've done 4 of them, I've gotten 2 of them onto grid paper so far.

When I was a kid one of the things they'd have us do in school was something like this. It wasn't art class but I'm not sure what class it was anymore either. Regardless I loved that part of class, getting to put together floor plans.

If I could draw floor plans for a living I would xD (on that note if anyone wants one custom designed for them send me a message! We can discuss prices and everything then! Can be for barns or other buildings, too, not just houses. I just really like doing unique houses. I can also build a more realistic version in the Sims 4 if desired! I have every pack so if any specific items were requested that wouldn't be an issue.)

For this floor plan, I did the original sketch (on plain paper) on march 20, and just redid it on grid paper (and improved it) today. I put the watermark mainly to stop "ai" from stealing it. Just to be safe.

I want to design a house that's like entirely green, meaning the whole thing is a greenhouse and has growing space everywhere, but I haven't managed it yet. I keep getting distracted by other ideas. Also I imagine it to have a lot of curves and I hate using my circle tool xD

Yeah, the anti cheat games I don't play much if at all, I'm not really a multiplayer gamer for the most part. My computer runs Overwatch fine, which my partner plays a lot of. Steam has built in proton setups which is glorious and makes everything easier.

The only game I really had trouble getting to run is Sims 4 but I figured it out with one reddit post, lol. Runs fine now.

You're absolutely right that it plays older games beautifully, I'm in my late 30s and still play 15, 20, 20+ year old games. I had a windows laptop that could not run some older games without partitioning an older version of windows. My computer now runs them straight with no issues.

And yes, customization is wonderful.

I run Linux on my personal computer and have for years.

It's intuitive once you get it going.

It doesn't have bloatware or AI or spyware.

It runs all of my videogames easily.

I honestly don't know why anyone wouldn't use it except for the learning curve of getting it running, but there are a ton of tutorials and such to help.

Highly recommend Linux.

And yes, I am a giant nerd. 🤓
