✨️Review of a sketchbook✨️
As I promised, I am posting a review of a sketchbook with Peppermans from different AUs. Don't judge me too harshly, I have never made such videos, I did everything in my simple photo editor, and everything was filmed in one take. And yes, the video will be a little shaky, because I didn't have any tripod and my hand could barely hold the phone in the air.
Enjoy :")👍

ANOTHER SKETCHBOOK TOUR
(Lots of bad doodles-)
Lots and LOTS gravity falls AU stuff, amongst other things. My 3 Buck Stan AU especially. I always love posting my sketchbooks because even if they’re all just jumbles of sometimes good doodles splattered across a page- It’s fun to show off and document the end of an “era” yk? Hope for those who watch the video enjoy it.

Recorded a little review of my monster sketchbook.
I think I showed them here before, but there's a little more now and it's better quality.
Would you guys like to see my other sketchbooks like this?

I FINISHED MY OHUHU BLEEDPROOF SKETCHBOOK AND WOULD LIKE TO SHARE MY OPINIONS!!!!!
It sucks, i hate it :p
Okay its a fine sketchbook, it works, but its not my favorite. I am a diehard ohuhu fan and was really excited for this sketchbook but was disappointed with it. Id give it a 5/10.
First the positives: its amazing how markers doesn’t bleed through the paper at all. I mainly use alcohol markers and its very frustrating when i accidentally ruin something because of bleeding. It is also very durable, ive has this sketchbook for nine months and none of the top papers have ripped off the spiral binding, where with my other sketchbooks its been been the opposite.
Now the negatives: ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO BLEND OR LAYER MARKERS WELL ON THIS!1!2!2 I’d describe it like the ink sitting on top of the paper, and once it dries it sits there forever. If you place a color down, wait for it to dry, and layer the same color onto it, it will look like a completely different color. This made shading and blending incredibly difficult for me. It also creates this weird shiny effect on the art that im not too fond of, but that’s probably not a deal breaker. Id like to mention im also exclusively using the ohuhu alcohol markers, so i dont know how other material other materials really react. It was
Thats all, have some chappell art for reading

sketchbook review | clairefontaine mix media
expectations:
smooth, at least compared to my other sketchpads (whatever cheap stuff i find & my favorite czech paper, design of art)
white, not the typical yellowish tint
can take watercolor without curling up on itself like a scared isopod (250g/m2), color somewhat liftable
pen-friendly
markers don't bleed through instantly
reality:
relatively smooth, random soft texture, very white
takes watercolor well, minimal warping (not taped) after moderate water usage
cheap pen nib doesn't get stuck on texture, doesn't collect fibers. had to actually try to get nastier lines
markers not yet tested
it cost me like 3 czk ($0.13) per page on sale, ~3.8 czk ($0.16) pp normally!
🗒✏️
conclusion: no rating yet, needs more techniques to appreciate&assess this "multi-techniques" paper; honestly i just want to show you this thing 🍂❄️
study of a piece by wang yuyuan:
Tumblr media
it is probably just (diluted) (sepia) ink; i used watercolor (umber, mars brown) & black drawing ink; added more texture by lifting watercolor with crumpled tissue & wet some of the ink

<transcript> Hello and welcome to Bunch of Ars, I'm Giles Meakin and I'm a professional freelance illustrator.
This isn't a product review. I bought this sketchbook off Amazon, but I didn't buy it for the paper quality. I bought it because it had 365 pages, and I wanted something to keep me honest as an artist to try and draw something every day, for one year. Two and a bit years later, I've finally finished it and I wanted to share it with you.
For me, social media is a necessary evil. A day spent making content and chasing engagement, is a day I'm not making art. I'd rather focus on my craft, because i'm not a talk show host, I'm an artist. I'm only going to post something when I've got something I want to say, and if I think that thing I wanted to talk about has some value.
I often look at the work of other artists online to inspire my own practice. There is some amazing talent out there, something I aspire to despite having been in the business for quite some time. There is always something new to learn, and the skill of my fellow artists is humbling... initmidating even. That said, I do see a lot of sketchbook reviews that may give aspiring artists a false impression of what a sketchbook is, or what it should look like. Page after page of immaculate, slickly rendered art that's ready for publication.
A sketchbook is not a portfolio. I want to disavow you of that notion. What you see online is not an accurate reflection of a normal artistic practise, unless you're at the absolute top of your game. World class artists like Kim Jung Gi for example (god rest him).
The point is, there is always a bigger fish. You're not in competition with other artists who may have been drawing for years, who are fortunate enough to dedicate their lives to art with a laser like focus. You are only in competition with yourself.
To me, a sketchbook is a visual journal of your journey as an artist. It's a place where you can quickly scribble down ideas before you forget them, practice the things you're bad at drawing.
Experiment, try things out. Doodle in your break time or when you're stuck waiting on public transport (again). Half baked or half finished ideas. Use it as a scrapbook.
It's a place to make mistakes. something you can look back on to see where you've been. Happy Accidents. Some of what you do will make you cringe, but there will also be diamonds in the rough.
So I present to you my most recent sketchbook, warts and all. edited only to remove personal information. I hope it serves you as an honest reflection of my journey as an artist, and that it might help you on yours.
Pause the video to check out the pages in detail. At the end, there are 50 famous faces I tried to draw in a minute each. You might like to have a stab at guessing who's who. Feel free to leave a comment; like or susbcribe if you thought this video was worthwhile.
Ciao For Now.

This is photos of my sketchbook doodle collection—not to be confused with the random doodles I do in class using lined paper. These are all conjured at home during my down/free time sometimes really late at night or the afternoon. I don’t take my sketchbook places as much as I used to, but that’s probably because it’s so personal to me (plus hefting sketchbooks around when my schoolload was already packed became inconvenient back in high school. I’m not planning on reliving those days in college lol. It’s quicker to animate or digital sketch)

Different day, different book, same cord bag!
I just got this new Green sketch book for my birthday, the paper is that perfect weight that prevents seep through but isn’t so stiff that it’s uncomfortable to use.

rambling about tbhk +bonus art
just finished episode one of Season 2 finally, I’m actually loosing it I love it, I can see how the animation has improved, looking a bit more close to the manga’s. I love the voice acting and I had to pause at moments because I couldn’t stop being so happy about the new episode, it’s been so long, I’m so so glad tbhk fans are finally getting the love we’ve been waiting for. I kinda tweaked out when Hanako possessed Nene’s body. I’ve read the whole arc for this point in the story and I can’t wait to see it adapted into the anime. I really really love the new opening theme, they always cook so hard! I like the new outro but for me nothing tops Tiny Light

Ignore the bad lighting I’m in my bed rn..
I’ll probably make more art for them later down the line. I’m currently working on the Valentines Alnst art trade and doing some School art pieces for an event. Ignore my friend’s birthday I needed to write it down.

LATEST MINI- SKETCHBOOK REVIEW
(Oodles and oodles of doodles-)
I’m quite happy with how this little doodle book panned out- Has a couple spoilers and art for my one gravity falls AU “3 Buck Stan” as well as whatever else I have on the back burners- Original characters, fanart, etc etc. These reviews are kind of like a chance for me to admire what I’ve done and it reminds me why I draw in the first place… Cuz it’s fun lol.
I love procrastination SO MUCH (Lie) and what better way to procrastinate making art than… Well, making art?
