I LOVE the way you draw the denton bros omfg!!!
also how did you get jc into project diva bc now I wanna see a jc/alex j or a paul/tracer magnet cover
answer: very haphazardly lol
my initial attempts skinwrapping from actual diva models resulted in all his bones being connected weird (and for some reason the ogdx models just like don't have any bones?? that I could find) so what he actually is is JC's body and textures + the bones and weights from the body of 2VE's walter white project diva mod. which means his face especially deforms because diva models are supposed to be split into body + hands + head, not just all-in-one... (all this to say I wouldn't distribute it cuz I used 2VE's mod to make it work hh)
I would like to put paul in there too hh i want to see paul + JC remote controller

I used April Fools day as an excuse to shrinkwrap my characters : )

Note: This is not a serious critique of any particular paleoart. It's just for fun and supposed to be silly

Why I dislike the “How scientists would draw this animal just from the skeleton” trend
Disclaimer:  I know it is just a little art trend and nobody is really looking into the scientific and accurate side of things, but I wanted to make this after hearing this phrase multiple times: “This makes me think about how dinosaurs look.”  I also am no expert or scientist myself and it’s just my opinion on this trend.
First and fore-most the trend’s name is incorrect to what they’re actually doing.  They are using an outdated method of shrink wrapping/skin wrapping.  Where they wrap the animals bones in skin and call it a day.  I do acknowledge that this was a trend in the 1800s and 1900s when dinosaurs were a new concept, but today that process isn’t really used or taken seriously anymore.  Not every dinosaur was drawn/discovered by scientists either.
Scientists and paleo artists take an account to the creature’s genetics, DNA, habitat, and modern day relatives.  This is why we no longer see the T.rex as a droopy-tailed lizard with an upright posture.  Same with plesiosaurs no longer having swan-like necks that can bend in any direction without snapping.  And the famous feather debate on avian and non-avian dinosaurs.
Tumblr media
I love this image because it shows the process of adding fats, muscle, and coverings to a skeleton.  Fat is for warmth and protection and muscles are largest where the most strength is used.  That needs to be taken into account when drawing these creatures.  There’s also the problem with not every creature that is discovered is only the skeleton.  Sometimes skin, scales, and feathers are preserved.  I mean some of the organs of Scipionyx Samniticus were (partially) preserved!
Tumblr media
Again I know the trend was just something small and fun to do and shouldn’t be taken that seriously.  But bringing these creatures to life takes a lot of knowledge and gathering of data.  I mean details are taken into consideration to even the smallest of things like whether or not the T.rex had lips or not!

Galarian researcher Cara Liss makes breakthrough in Ancient Pokemon anatomy!
Earlier today, self-proclaimed Fossil Pokemon Expert, Cara Liss, created these reconstructions of ancient Pokemon! Here’s what she had to say:
I believe that Archen and Archeops didn’t have as many feathers as Unova reconstructions would have you believe. Archen and Archeops are much more physically similar to Helioptile in terms of anatomy. I am led to believe that, as a result, these Pokemon had long arms for climbing trees, and a very small amount of feathers used for display purposes and had no flying functionality.
Kantonians would have you believe that Aerodactyl is a flying, dragon-like Pokemon. This is simply not the case. The bump on its back was obviously a dorsal fin for swimming, and its long appendages that were mistaken for wings are actually long, sharp digits used for fishing! Its head was also bony and thinner, so it could cut through the water much more effectively.

Knowing what we know about dinosaurs now - that they were fluffy and colorful, probably a lot more pudgy than we think, and were likely much more passive than media lets on - do you prefer the new interpretations or the old ones?
Tumblr media
New ones! NEW!
The old ones are...so wrong. I remember WWD T.rex... It looked so wrong, even as small child i could say, i don't like this dino, because it seems off. I can't forgive the skinwrapping.
Dinosaurs were animals, who had fat and meat! Gimme realistic chunky spino and co!!

I’ve worked on these goddamn horns for countless hours. Just yesterday I did skinwrapping stuff for 3 hours straight and that’s thanks to the help of EvilLord on Discord, if it ain’t for him I probably wouldn’t know where to even start. But finally his horns are in one single color!!!
I just need to go back and try to fix the weird square textures because for some reason the normals are fucked up when I merge the submesh. Orz The things I do for my boy...

I figured I’d share the art where my header image + icons came from! Know that there’s no art theft, as I drew them :)
As is said in my header, my DeviantART account is ShadowCatsKey (I don’t have an art tumblr anymore though, don’t draw fast enough to keep one going) and on there you can still find my (now older) Rune Factory inspired fanart.
The top image was a personal headcanon appearance for Terrable. This very different, skin-wrapped dragon/t-rex design came about when I tried to draw Terrable from memory during a power outage. Personally, I still love the look, so any future art of Terrable I do will likely look something similar, just, maybe less skinwrapped nowadays xD
The other four images are from a project I’d started where I drew each game’s final boss with icons of the smaller cave/dungeon bosses. I did RF 1, 2, 3 and Frontier- but at that time, I hadn’t beaten 4 or Tides, so the project was never finished. I’ve also changed art tablets, pcs, and art programs since then. You can see I did my own twist on Fiersome as well, while I left Aquaticus and Gelwin pretty much alone.
I love the look of these older images, especially how I drew the cave bosses below the final bosses, so I’m hesitant to redo them. But hey! Even if the new ones don’t turn out as charming, I think this is a fun series I’ll redo at some point.

Not to start hadrosaur discourse but for some reason I kinda dislike the American Saurolophus osborni while immensely loving Mongolian Saurolophus angustirostris.
And this really has no basis at all, its just me being pettt and weird. Perhaps its because of all the skinwrapped art of American Saurolophus that makes its crest look like its forcibly glued in its head or the fact that its crest is really small and in an almost 45 degree angle that it annoyingly looks so forced.
While adult Mongolian Saurolophus has a long thick sheath shaped crest that smoothy goes down to its beak making it look like an elegant duck and not one that has a branch tip taped on its head. It looks like it has style and aestethic(tm). Plus it lives in Asia so there's a plus point.
