I really, really appreciate that Thunderbolts didn’t end with them beating up the Void to save the day. I feel like a lot of otherwise strong MCU properties have started off with an emotional, character-centered plotline, only for the climax to be a villain (often with lots of CGI) and all the emotional problems are solved by beating up the bad guy.

Some examples:

Shang-Chi: don't get me wrong, I loved Shang-Chi. One of the best movies since Endgame, IMO. But they really resolved the Wenwu plotline by having the Dweller-in-Darkness emerge, so that Wenwu can go "oh no I was wrong" (because there's a giant monster), and then the movie's climax is... Shang-Chi beating up that giant monster? Meh.

WandaVision: starts off with that creeping sense of unease. Something is wrong. Basically no fights for the first half of the show. Focuses on the characters and their relationships with each other and Wanda's mental state. Which is why everything gets resolved with a Vision-on-Vision fight and Wanda vs. Agatha, of course. I realize that the fights were used as a medium to cause character development, like White Vision regaining his memories, but I don't think there needed to be a fight in the first place.

Black Widow: first two-thirds of the movie are all about the complicated familial relationship between Natasha, Yelena, Alexei, and Melina. With fight scenes interspersed, yes, but the two primary plotlines are a) freeing the Widows and b) whether or not the four can reconcile. A massive fight on a secret skybase with explosions in the background is a good way to resolve the first, but NOT the second one.

Anyway, I'm just pleased that Thunderbolts broke the trend in a good way. I don't like that trend lol.

don't worry it's a more casual server than i made it seem, i was absolutely tryharding it lol. and if you do die to the sculk you become part of it with the chance to get cured, you don't get kicked from the server or anything like that. you don't have to be great at minecraft. it's meant to be a good time!

i'm starting classes next week so i can't do mondays or wednesdays but we can talk about a private server in dms!

Smallish Beans

I used to watch Joel in 2018(??) but I forgot most of what he's like (all I remember from his channel is the types of builders[??] vid with the skybase that protects you from mobs) but 0MG HES SO FUNNY XDD!!! Im watching his first hermitcraft episode and im so excited to watch the rest. I highly recommend watching Joels POV this season because its great!!

The Mutants

The Doctor is dispatched by the Time Lords to make a delivery to Skybase One above the planet Solos in the 30th century. Unfortunately relations are strained between the natives and occupying human Overlords, especially since the pollution from the humans' mining operation is causing the locals to mutate.

First time in a while that I'd gone in completely blind. And for the first half of the story, I wasn't sold. More politics and peace conferences, and some pretty terrible acting from a few of the cast, namely Stubbs, an old Solonian in Varan's camp, Varan himself (who talks like he's working from a Doctor Doom playbook ordered from Temu), and especially Cotton (calling an explicitly black character that? Fucking YIKES). But as the second half got started, after I'd had a break for a few days, and the twist regarding the mutants came about, suddenly I couldn't be torn away.

The Mutants is a story of slavery, segregation, genocide, and power corrupting in the worst possible way. It ultimately feels very relevant for our time, given how terrible everything seems to have rapidly become over the last few months, or years depending on how pessimistic you're feeling, as the Marshall goes from being kind of a racist flabby dick to a full blown screaming fascist. Like a Vogon writing for the Daily Mail. You just know if this story was put out today, you'd have every miserable git on Facebook crying "woke rubbish."

Try to stick The Mutants out, it does become compelling stuff, despite its flaws.

so i know the immediate thing about the sonic heroes manual is "Oh, Eggman thinks he's a feminist, that's funny!" but this is skipping over what is probably the MOST INTERESTING part of this entire page. according to this, eggman is a romanticist. which actually kind of fits?

romanticism was a cultural and artistic movement of the 1700s. while far too vast a topic to entirely convey in a tumblr post, it was about rejecting social conventions and becoming an individual. passion and intuition were seen as crucial, while anything that evokes an emotional response is seen as beautiful or sublime. they revered nature, and idealised the supernatural and historical.

eggman is certainly a singular individual. he's certainly passionate, and he has NEVER been a man to hide his emotions, from joy to rage. but i can hear you asking: "but eggman? the man of science and robotics, revering nature??? idealising the supernatural and historical??? surely you jest!"

well, no. while eggman is callous towards nature, he doesnt disrespect it either. he could construct vast flying skybases or burrow deep underground where he never has to interact with nature... but consistently, a lot of his bases happen to be on groundlevel. and theyre frequently in forests too, in snowy mountains and seaside locales. his robots are, likewise, themed after animals. observing them and using their existing natural strengths as a baseline to "improve" upon them. this is a man who sees nature, and knows that only the strange grandeur of the natural world can enhance his existing machines.

and eggman also has a general love of history. this is a man who has read ancient manuscripts and carvings from basically every corner of history, and he never complains about it. some of these cultures are literally centuries old, and many of them are outright dead. there wouldnt be any record of how to speak or write them, and yet, doctor eggman learns all these dead languages year after year, seemingly for fun.

as for the supernatural angle, eggman has been making machines themed around mythological creatures for years! this is a guy who makes dragons, krakens, wyverns, giant whales, he made a goddamn robot based on astrology. and thats not counting how many times hes summoned gods, how many times hes harnessed foreign mystical powers, hes probably the foremost expert on magic on the entire planet!

eggman IS a romanticist.

its just... well, like the sonic heroes manual says.

it's hard to recognise that when he keeps ranting about world domination.
