God I go feral over the concept of Sleepy Hollow x AC, purely because theres the possibility of Desmond wandering into town and seeing Ichabod and going "hey Shaun, Rebecca, am I hallucinating or is that the guy Connor knew during the revolution"

(I’m making this a Sleepy Hollow the TV show crossover because I’m hoping that what’s you mean XD)

Desmond is permitted to go rest for a ‘bit’ after saving the world with Shaun and Rebecca while Bill tries to get info about how the entire world is holding up. They were on their way to a safe location where Altaïr II is waiting for them so Desmond could have his ‘vacation in the Caribbean Sea’ (I don’t know why, Becs, but I kinda wanna go sailing there for some reasons) and they just happen to pass by Sleepy Hollow when Desmond sees Ichabod Crane.

He’s hit with Ratonhnhaké:ton’s Bleed because he looks exactly like the Ichabod Crane who worked for George Washington.

And he confronts him.

Ichabod didn’t recognize Desmond at all but he recognized the tone and the posture. He remembered Ratonhnhaké:ton. The way Washington’s relationship with the native man ended had always haunted Washington and Ichabod saw the aftermath.

Washington’s focus on the supernatural had been due to his final meeting with Ratonhnhaké:ton.

And Ichabod now believes that Desmond is possessed by Ratonhnhaké:ton’s ghost.

Delighted to announce that Headless: A Sleepy Hollow Story is still The Best, Mary Kate Wiles' performance in the final episode is still absolutely chilling, and I still get emotional every time when Henrietta (Felicia Day???) finally manifests and repays all of the kindness the others have shown to her over the course of the series.

The black woman,/white man thing is so infuriatingly true, I stopped watching Sleepy Hollow because of it. Like, Abbie was the fucking *lead*, how the fuck are you gonna kill her off and pretend it's still the same show?!? The chemistry she had with Ichabod was undeniable; like tell me you've ever cradled a platonic friend in your arms and whispered into their hair to remember the bond you share. Or run into the arms of someone you're just friends with to be scooped up and twirled as if it had been ages since you'd seen one another. Or wiped latte foam from their lip and received the loudest heart eyes ever in response. Augh!!!

Sleepy Hollow was my first foray into fandom and into seeing a show burn itself down because of religiosity, misogynoir, and white supremacy.

Sleepy Hollow was scary, and fun, and there was mystery, and intrigue and it was kind of playing off the darker vibe and scary legacy of Tim Burton's movie. But then Christians started making a stink about the occult nature weaved into historical American fiction.

Then came the whitewashing. The show had pretty diverse cast, but more importantly than them being diverse they were fucking talented. Orlando Jones, John Cho, and Nicholas Gonzalez revolved AROUND Nicole Behari's character but held there own. John was amazing in his short stint and Orlando was captivating AND smart. (BTW American Gods made the same mistake with Orlando). Then they wiped them all out like they were nothing.

They overemphasized on Tom's/Ichabod's popularity, didn't know that their audience was a TON of Black women who knew Nicole was a lead. They left her off the commentary for the DVD and really pretended that they didn't understand that people were fans of hers.

Then came the WW, that resentment over the CLEAR desire Ichabod had for her, over the clear undeniable chemistry. They got NASTY in the comment sections and on Twitter. They started out with Abbie having an established ex that was John Cho's character. (Even half-dead we ALL know Cho is fine AF) and then Nicholas Gonzalez as another potential love interest but nothing romantic took off for her. She couldn't be seen as desired. Articles were written about her lack of love interests so they introduced Lance Gross but by then the damage had been done. They didn't want her to have ANYONE. That ol' resentment meant that she needed to take a backseat and let Ichabod and his story be the lead. We aren't even getting into the rumors that were made up on set to blacklist Nicole.

All this meant no more story about her and her sister and their potential witchcraft lineage, they derailed the story, added Katrina gave HER the arc and of course Ichabod as her husband and didn't give a good god damn what was in front of them.

Fans tried to tell them how much they loved the show and what they loved about it and the chemistry between Ichabod and Abbie but they decided that they didn't need Abbie and they leaned more into Ichabod and then we got Betsy Ross and that was it. They really believed people were going to watch that show. It fell off the cliff as everyone was screaming that they were walking backward into it.

The parallels to New Amsterdam both in front and behind the scenes is UNCANNY and AWFUL. Nicole wanted to leave, Freema wanted to leave.

The desire-resentment cycle continues.

Hear me out: Henrietta says to Ichabod that “[his] grandmother, and those that came before her, carried the guilt of the Storms name”. No mention of whichever parent was the grandmother’s kid, so Henrietta must not have approached them. If we assume that Ick’s parents were adults when they had him, then we can also assume that Henrietta does not approach the Crane line as soon as they reach adulthood.

My theory is a Wynonna Earp sort of thing: that the heir comes “of age” at 27. This also makes sense from a “your brain has finally finished developing” perspective. So Henrietta would, unknowingly bc no memories, seek out the next in the Crane line once they turned 27. (My personal headcanon is that Ick’s actually 28 - to Brom’s canon 27 and Matilda and Kat’s headcanon 26 - in the show, but he wasn’t in Sleepy Hollow, so Henrietta never approached. This is why she approached him almost immediately after he got to town. In line with this, I like to think that Ick’s grandmother stubbornly held on to life until Ick was 28 in the hopes that she could keep him away from Sleepy Hollow until he was “safe” from the Headless Horseman!)

Anyway, since Ick’s parents died when he was young, I believe they died before reaching 27. (OR better yet, they died after turning 27 but before Henrietta found them and the grandmother believed Henrietta to be responsible for their deaths, which is why she took Ick away from Sleepy Hollow!)

Imagine is Ichabod Crane ever met Captain Jack Sparrow. How would that go do you think?

For some reason, I imagine Jack coming into port, where he meets Katrina first, and tries to hit on her (which wouldn’t go well).

Anyway, I don’t think Ichabod would like him very much, but if Jack roped him into a high seas adventure, then he’d develop some respect for him. I think Ichabod would have a similar arc as Will Turner in the first PotC movie, only he’d be afraid of more things.

I think Jack would find Ichabod equally amusing and annoying at first, but come to appreciate that the man’s got the spirit when it counts.

6. What is their favourite feature of their partner's?

Matilda would say Brom's smile and the way his whole face lights up, but she might also very much appreciate his arms. (She would probably never admit it).

Brom loves Matilda's eyes, since they give away everything she's thinking—at least to him—and they're so pretty. And as for any other features, that's between him and his wife, thank-you-very-much.

25. Who needs more assurance?

They are both confident and self-assured, but I think we can agree that Brom doesn't have a single anxious or insecure bone in his body (pun intended), so Matilda would have more moments of doubt between the two of them. She's not used to being vulnerable but Brom is pretty good at reading her, and he's got enthusiasm enough for the both of them, so it's easy for her to relax with him. Besides, he's pretty sure she can do anything. (To backtrack, though I think Brom does have his moments, however rare, where Matilda assures him as well. So, like, maybe he has one bone of uncertainty. Sometimes. Usually in regards to his dad.)

28. What do they do when they're away from each other?

They both have their own lives within the community, and their own hobbies and friends, so I think they both like having their moments of doing their own thing. Brom is very extroverted, so if he's not with Matilda, then he's probably with the Babes or Ichabod, etc. Matilda, meanwhile, needs some time to herself, and her own space, so she takes advantage of the times that Brom is away to relax or get some things done. She also enjoys spending time with her friends, like Judy and Lucretia, and the fun and support she finds with them. I think it might take Matilda and Brom some time to figure out that balance, though. (I kinda think Matilda would go crazy if Brom was around twenty-four-seven.)

Uh, I'm thinking this 'wey' might be 'loco'!

Luckily I have made a record of my seasonal viewing on Letterboxd for the last several years. A lot of this is just filling in the blanks for genre staples that I missed out on during the majority of my life where I barely paid attention to film. The six that stand out to me are...

Phantasm (1979): This is a shockingly positive portrayal of male pattern baldness, and it shows just how devastating an orb can be.

Elvira, Mistress of the Dark (1988): Elvira wants to fuck a hot dumb guy, but things don't go quite as planned when this free spirit and her *gulp* generous endowment run afoul of small town prejudice! She does end up fucking the dumb guy, though. Sometimes things are as simple as we make them.

The Masque of the Red Death (1964): Vincent Price is like some sort of scary man.

Bride of Frankenstein (1935): The part at the end where Boris Karloff says "She hate me!" should have been sampled in a hit rap song... perhaps even two.

The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (1949): A remarkably faithful adaptation. The only major embellishment is Bing Crosby crooning over the proceedings, which is a choice that I believe Irving himself would have made had it been available to him. Ichabod really is just a horny hungry guy who is also some sort of birdlike homunculus. He's a real piece of shit.

Blade (1998): Here's a picture I took of my Blade DVD (big ass AND1s and banknote worth 500 hungarian forint for scale):

I know what you're thinking, and yes, the special features are just as epic as the film itself.

AAAAAAAAAAAAA thank you so much for the subtitles on Headless!!!! (which btw is simply the best, better than all the rest!!!) I've been watching the show with my students and the subtitles really help with learning all the new useful English words like "headless" and "poison" and "slime" 😁

Ah, that's so awesome! I love that. Very important words to know. :)

And captioning the show was a lot of work but I was happy to do it, and I'm so glad everyone seemed to enjoy them so much!

my favorite cast member

Orlando Jones. Specifically from the first two seasons of Sleepy Hollow. While I will never, ever forgive that show for what they did, he is the reason I'm on Twitter. He had no idea what shipping was until Ichabbie (in fact, I think he said he thought it was an insult at first, LOL), but once he understood, he jumped into fandom culture with BOTH feet! He climbed aboard the S.S. Ichabbie and took the helm. I didn't even really ship it at first, but his enthusiasm was so much fun! He was Dante Basco levels of shipper trash, and I will forever and ever love him for it. Here's to Captain Trollando!
