"A Green Queen" AU

Side Story: "Goodnight, Queen Luigi"

Bowser took a deep breath and he walked through the hallway. The small body lay in his arms sleeping peacefully, only moving once or twice to shift closer to his underbelly. He was still shaken by the Queen's outburst and began to go over the events of the last month.

He'd been informed of his marriage to the little fragile plumber and despite him knowing almost nothing about him, he had shown bravery in becoming the queen. Bowser rumbled lowly as he smiled a bit at the thought of how he outperformed his brother.

'His arm'

Bowser glanced down at him and grazed the bandages with a claw. He stomach churned again as he remembered what he did and how foolish he had been to think Luigi wouldn't get injured. He sighed, fiddling with it a bit before trailing his claw up to his neck, curiosity getting the better of him.

Luigi shivered from it then eased into the touch as he let out a loud snore. Bowser nearly laughed out, but only retreated his claw back to support the weight of the human.

He neared the room still going over the silly arguments, times his temper got the better of half of his judgement. He reached out towards the door handle, but paused as a thought hit him.

'What about Peach?'

"What about her...?", He blinked only for his eyes to shoot wide as he heard himself say it.

His months, no, years of pining, planning their future.

The whole reason he was so filled with anguish over not getting his dream life. The only purpose in protecting his kingdom. He was now stunned by such a question.

'She is still what you desire, isn't she?'

Bowser took the handle and opened the door, not wanting to answer his thoughts. He strode over to the head of the bed and gently slipped Luigi under the covers, giving them a small tug to further cover him. Before he moved, a hand slipped out gesturing him weakly to come down.

He kneeled down to the sleepy hand and rested his head on the edge. Luigi yawned and gave a reassuring smile before placing his hand near the base of the King's hair and patted him gently.

"Thank you...", He croaked quietly. His eyes barely stayed open as he snuggled in.

Bowser blinked while the sleeping body snored and snorted in his dreams. His tail couldn't help, but wag at the small bit of praise. He somewhat knew his answer, but burned every thought trying to surface.

'It will be just like this when Peach is mine.'

He stood up quietly, almost stumbling back onto his shell then headed towards the door. As he opened it, Spotty stood at their post, unwavering.

" Your duties are finished for today, go back to the ship."

Spotty didn't move, they simply looked at him.

"You heard me."

"Wi-With all do respect, your highness. I am a part of the Queen's court, meaning I am obligated to stay at my post..."

"And as your King and his husband, you will do as I say and get back to the ship!", He growled.

Spotty shook from his presence, they thought for a moment, to not move per his request. "Y-Yes, your highness."

They bounded down the hall but glanced back once or twice to see the pressing glare the King was giving them.

Bowser huffed as he saw them get out of view, and slightly opened the door to see Luigi sound asleep. He smiled seeing him rest and closed the door gently before turning towards the hall near the cells.

'I hope we can be friends at least..'

OKay first let's talk about how King Boo is the perfect nemesis to Luigi the way Bowser is to Mario.

Mario is constantly associated with fire, is a physical, direct fighter. He's straightforward and simple in his concept, and so is Bowser : hero vs dragon, loud braggart vs silent humble guy, that kind of thing.

Luigi is...a weird case. He's more flawed and complex; he's scared, he's greedy, he's feeling overshadowed, he's clumsy, he's a loser. He's usually Mario's counterpart when it comes to ability but that's hardly consistent : is the opposite of fire lightning? Ice? Water?

What is Luigi's deal ?

One of the most consistent theme of that yin-yang is the Sun/Moon theme. Mario, bright, burning, shining, warming through his presence and bringing life. Luigi, shy and secretive, hiding in the shadows, weird powers abound, and his games are all focused around night and ghosts (and by extension death).

There's some moral ambiguity in his actions too: fans have been debating for years about how much E.Gadd and King Boo are justified in their respective actions. Is E.Gadd a sinister scientist capturing sentient creatures and people into portraits, or a well-meaning scientist trying to prevent ghosts from being dangerous? Is King Boo trying to protect his Boos or is he just a petty bastard? You wouldn't get that kind of debate about Mario fighting Bowser (unless you're an edgy youtuber trying to make noise)

And people have pointed out before me, but Luigi is often paired with nice people and villains alike, because where Mario is incorruptible as the Hero, Luigi would be more vulnerable to the sirens of evil, even if he never actually turned evil, because he's a sweety pie.

EDIT : HERE'S THE POST I WAS THINKING ABOUT REGARDING LUIGI'S WEAKNESS TO CORRUPTION

He's more like King Boo than he would like.

There's also the supreme irony of Luigi being so terrified of ghosts that of course his main enemies are all kind of ghosts, spirits and such. And yet ! He can be friendly with them! Polterpup of course, and other ghosts, he wouldn't attack them if he could! He just wants to take a nap without someone trying to murder him!!! So it's funny for me to picture him befriending the Boos, including their King, especially when at first the latter wants to KILL KILL BITE BITE. Speaking of which, I love fanarts in which KB has a gaggle of lil boos cheering him up in his attempts to woo Luigi. Go get'im, boss! You're irresistible, surely this time he'll fall for you!

Oh yeah, because I LOVE the trope of KB having been trying to seduce Luigi all this time and kidnapping his family was the best he could come up with. Honestly, look at how long he let Luigi run around in every Mansion instead of just swarming him!

(Now I want a fic where KB just goes "you know what, screw it, I've waited long enough ,ALL ON HIM!!" ...how angsty or humorous it gets is up to you ;p)

I had a joke at some point (and now it fits with the ghost seducer AU) that all that money Luigi finds is KB paying Luigi for cleaning up, or sugar daddy-ing him up and trying to get him to stay.

KB : *throws gold ingots and diamonds at Luigi* TAKE MY MONEY, WHORE!!

And oh, the naughty, naughty things King Boo could do with this tongue...

MARIO/ LUIGI AND READER: Cocoa

It was a frigid evening and you came back on the ship right before the sun was set.

You strip off of your scarf and coat and reached the kitchen;guided by the sweet aroma of cocoa.

-Good evening muffin;welcome back! I thought you could be in need of something warm-

Mario handled you a cup -Careful it's hot-

-Like you?- You smirked. Mario fastly averted his eyes -You flatter me ehe- You followed him in the living room.

Your lover put the cup on the round table and fluffed you a pillow so you could be all comfy.

-Really kind of Beep-o to allow us to get a bigger ship and do whatever we want with it- You sat and took a sip.

-Speaking of wich;where are the others?- Mario took the blanket neatly folded next to him to cover both.

-They said they wanted to spend more time at the flea markets-

You snuggled next to him.

-Well, that means we can watch cheesy romcoms?- He asked with a glint on his eyes.

-Yeah pfftt we can -

Luigi carefully poured the hot cocoa in two cups;then added a couple of marshmallow in each.

You were asleep in what you two called "shared bedroom." You actually just moved stuff from a random shop room and got a double bed, much to Beep-o's annoyance but he couldn't stop you two lovebirds.

-I made some hot cocoa for us- He quietly stated;tip-toeing to the bed. You stirred confused -Eh...what?- You covered a yawn- For real?-

He handled it to you and suddenly you weren't feeling so sleepy. Your eyes sparkled at the view of the cup -Aw thanks.This is nice of you- You munched a marshmallow -You're the best-
