Also a much cooler flex if they had said you could count to a million or a billion on your hands but i guess that requires knowing the grammatical rules and counting systems of ASL
Fair point

hello locked tomb fans!
a while ago i did a poll about starting a gideon the ninth book club discord server and a lot of people were very excited about it
SO IT'S HERE NOW!
to avoid bots etc, please dm me for the link!
the concept of the server is essentially to slowly and at your own pace re-read each chapter of gtn and talk about the details one may have missed on their previous read(s).
(taglist under cut)
since so many people asked to be tagged i may have missed some of you. if so i'm rlly sorry. also please note that i'm limiting the server to 100 people for my own sanity. i don't know if we get that far, but if we reach that member count i'll tell you

rules: shuffle your ‘on repeat’ playlist and post the first 10 tracks, then list 10 songs you really like, each by a different artist. then tag 10 people to do the same thing
I got tagged by @grapecaseschoices and @narrativefoiltrope, thank you both!! I have not listened to very much music at all lately and what I have listened to has mostly been on loop, so we’ll see how much of interest comes up in this playlist
“Teeth” - Five Seconds of Summer
“Bang!” - AJR
“Everything Moves” - Bronze Radio Return
“INDUSTRY BABY” - Lil Nas X feat. Jack Harlow
“Woman Like Me” - Little Mix feat. Nicki Minaj
“The Draw” - Bastille
“MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name) - But Lil Nas X Makes All The Sounds With His Mouth” - Lil Nas X
“Pink Lemonade” - The Wombats
“Bonjour, Hi! (Touché Version)” - The Cast of Canada’s Drag Race: Canada vs. The World
“If My Heart Was a House” - Owl City
Aaand now for artists I really like! I’m gonna avoid artists already listed above just for fun
“Cavalry” - Novo Amo, Ed Tullet
“Constellations” - The Oh Hellos
“Rose Gold” - Pentatonix
“Rio” - MIKA
“The Hand That Feeds” - The Crane Wives
“All the Pretty Girls” - fun.
“Santé” - Stromae
“Eric’s Song” - Vienna Teng
“All Through the Night” - Anna Nalick
“Moment’s Silence (Common Tongue)” - Hozier
Idk if I wanna tag 10 people, but for funsies, let’s tag @actionsurges @dreadmetrol @samusthedude @simothys @roxaro @manonamora-if @sleepyspoonie @twowivestwoknives Have fun! No pressure ofc!

Naruto = BPD-coded? You got my interest! I'm not trying to argue against that, I'm just really, REALLY curious to read more about how is he BPD-coded.
Then again, I watched Naruto like 10 years ago and I didn't know what BPD was at the time (nor did I actually exhibit my own symptoms back then), so maybe I missed all the signs.
I do agree on all the other characters though, at least the ones that I know of.
^^^ a post i found that i feel just sums it up well. idk if u wanted me to really explain but. when i think about naruto in this case, the things that stand out are:
- childhood trauma (as bpd is a trauma disorder)
-loneliness (he is shown to struggle with quite a lot, especially in childhood )
- having a fp (sasuke. when it comes to sasuke he has MUCH TROUBLE regulating his emotions. i think about how he had a panic attack when he thinks he has no chance of saving sasuke. i dont kno if i would really count hinata as a fp for him, but in “the last” after hinata leaves with toneri, hes so distraught he passes out and doesnt wake up for 3 days.
but most of all for me i would consider this hc as me projecting, lmao.

Favorite battle:
God, this is a tough one. in campaign one it’s probably a tie between scanlan’s triceratops rampage during the briarwood arc and grog’s pit fights with Kern the Hammer. The triceratops incident speaks for itself really, and the pit fights have this unique “gimmick” going on where the way Travis and Matt flavor each blow to have real tactical meaning. It’s not just two dudes wailing on each other and seeing who gets the bigger numbers, Matt and the whole group have an amazing talent for painting these glorious pictures of combat that I feel was one of the things that really made Critical Role different to watch compared to other DnD podcasts I’d seen up until then, and Matt and Travis really did something amazing with Grog vs Kern. It also really shows how much is going on in Travis’s head in combat, which is easier to overlook during the earlier shows when his personal role in battle was mostly “GROG SMASH”.
Campaign 2, happened recent enough to be spoilery, so skip this one if you aren’t caught up. I’d actually have to say the battle against the Uka-toa fish people on the Ball-eater. Everything from Matt managing to completely blindside Travis, Travis’s regret at not seeing it coming, The long term implications the battle had in what the bad guys where trying to accomplish, The very real “What the Fuck, Mercer” fear, and of course the way the whole table came together to protect/save fjord. Talisen apparently said off camera that it was the angriest he’s ever played Caduceus and the moment where he says “Not in the Mood” moment is surprisingly chilling.
Favorite Reveal:
Campaign 1 fave reveal is probably the first time Matt brings up the briarwoods, which might be a bit of a stretch on what counts as a reveal, but it’s just one of those moments that’s done so beautifully. The way Matt just drops the name brairwood into what is essentially Background Worldbuilding NPC chatter to most of the group, on the tail of a conversation that had much more obvious in-character interests for the group. You can see everybody either looking at their notes or deciding what to do next already, and Matt says the words Briarwood and Talisen just snaps up like Matt just actually slapped him in the face and he’s all wide eyed and you can just see all of Percy’s trauma and turmoil as if it’s his own and ACTING and the integration of character and player that’s just one of the things i seriously love about Dungeons and Dragons.
Campaign 2 fave reveal probably goes to the one-two punch of Nott’s family and Nott’s curse. Sam’s particular style of acting tends to make even the more serious character moments feel like a bit. There are only a handful of moments outside of incredibly dire combat where his character is the center character that he doesn’t bring some sort of levity to in some way. And the triple gut punch of revealing Nott’s family, her curse, and Husband being kidnapped by the Dynasty leading up to Nott actually lashing out at Caleb just had me shaking with so many emotions and feeling like Sam Reigal and Matt Mercer had just drained literal years off my life.
Worst take that I still stand by:
There’s a part of me that sort of wishes Matt had kept Tiberius around as an NPC. Kicking Orion from the show was absolutely the right thing to do, and having Tiberius leaving Vox Machina the way he did was probably the right way to handle that. Even killing him felt like a good narrative choice and happened long enough after the fact that it didn’t feel unnecessarily malicious. I just think that when you remove Orion’s shitty behavior on and off the table from the equation, Tiberius had enough charming quirks and mannerisms that I found him pretty entertaining, and Matt’s short performance as him when he left the party permanently made me want to see more on his take on the character. I get the probably reasons why he never used Tiberius in that way, and admittedly Vox Machina manages to feel complete without him in a way that it doesn’t when it’s missing literally any of the other original members, but I’m still a bit curious about what could have been if different decisions had been made.

I Love the pants in your renfest costume!! What style is that? I'd be all kinds of interested in putting something similar together for my own outfit.
So I messaged the costumer who made them, since she actually drafted the pattern custom based on my measurements, and this is what she said:
I'm not sure they have one tbh. They're based off of baggy rus pants but pleated into a waistband instead of gathered with a tie at the waist

I love all the fucking freaky shit down there
exactly! you’ve got everything that’s weird there! demon summoning, darkspawn doing their weird shit, eluvians, creepy bits of lore, those titan things, glowing dwarves, rock wraiths, archdemons, lyrium also doing its creepy thing. i love it 🥰
josepseed replied to your post “i guess this is an unpopular opinion but i love the deep roads”
a looove the descent!! lore and glowy dwarves!! :D
yes! it was so interesting, the glowy dwarves and their titans... the whole ‘pillar of the earth’ thing and lyrium blood drinking... there was so much new lore down there ♥
i’m so glad they gave the dwarves some more lore too! the deep roads are so big, there’s probably so much more down there

You see a lot less Witches content than Watch for Some Reason but when I do see Witches stuff it’s usually badass moments which, fair, but witches are supposed to be all about the edges and underbellies and small, private, painful moments that someone has to be there for. Granny Weatherwax takes care of these moments and knows people resent her for it, but she endures their distrust (although it eats at her) because someone has to do the job. It’s an interesting contrast to the Magpyrs who want to come across as friendly, approachable neighbors even as they’re draining people’s blood. Good is not nice and nice is not good.

If you ever have enough songs that make an appearance on the show--original or covers--you should absolutely release an album. Especially fear for the storm is AMAZING, but I would absolutely throw my money at an album of tscosi music. This podcast has launched its way right up into my top favorites since I started listening :)
Aw, thank you so much! We actually do have a bandcamp page for Procyon shows, which is admittedly a bit bare at the moment; I haven’t yet added the demo version of Fear for the Storm, for instance, because for complicated reasons i won’t be able to log into the network’s bandcamp ‘til probably later today. It will definitely be added, however, along with the in-show version at some point.
Thanks again!

My wife made me a meme to help cope with keeping kosher for Passover and I’m losing it
[ID: a picture of Rose Tyler and Ten from Doctor Who, each leaning against a wall as if separated by it. Over Rose’s face is text that reads: “my jewish friends during passover”. Over Ten’s face is a sexy (to quote my wife) loaf of bread. /end ID]

complete and utter nonsense its green in my heart
storywonker replied to your post “thunderboltsortofapenny replied to your post “you know what word i...”
I'M SO GLAD SOMEONE ELSE READS IT AS GREEN
It’s the fucking ver- beginning. Green in latin is viridis which transformed into things like verde or vert in modern romance languages which then comes into English in words like verd (used an as adjective and a prefix to mean grean), verdant (green in color), verdigris (greenish-blue pigment from copper), etc.
So like, we all recognize the pattern of verd-, and even though vermillion only has the ver- it’s close enough that our conditioning yells “hey that means green” but it’s NOT it’s fucking RED and it’s BULLSHIT
