So it turns out that sixteen minutes in the prison dimension is about six months outside it. Give or take. 

Donnie calls it a temporal differential. Leo’s third day back was spent being gently interrogated within an inch of his life. For every answer he gave, Donnie’s face got a little darker. 

He seems a lot older than the last time Leo saw him. Everyone does. They all look at Leo like he’ll disappear into thin air if they blink too many times. 

He expects it to wear off eventually. He’s only confined to the infirmary for a week and a half, and on bedrest for a week after that, but even a month later Raph and Mikey continue to stick to him like glue. 

“I’m okay,” Leo tells them, when his bad leg seizes up and he staggers on his way to the breakfast table and Mikey’s face crumples horribly. Raph just huffs and lifts Leo clean off his feet to carry him the rest of the way. Swallowing past the uncertain lump in his throat, Leo adds playfully, “I mean, I’m not one to complain about the all-star treatment, but—”

“Good,” Raph rumbles, “then don’t.”

“Sorry if we’re being annoying,” Mikey says with a brightness in his tone that doesn’t sit quite right. He’s said that like fifty times since Leo came back. “We just—we missed you, Lee.” 

And what is Leo supposed to say to that? 

“Annoying? Please,” he scoffs. “I’m the king of everything obnoxious. You couldn’t annoy me if you tried.”

When Raph lowers him into a seat, Leo lifts his arm in invitation for Mikey to scoot his chair up right next to his, and then wraps him up in a tight hug. Mikey slots into his side like he belongs there, and he does, he always will, but it’s just a bit different than Leo remembers. 

Mikey is still his little brother. But only by a few months now. Leo’s seventeenth birthday came and went without him. 

And a part of him—this nameless little part that lives in the back of his mind, that’s lived there ever since dad made him team leader and ripped the rug out from under his feet—thinks that’s why Donnie doesn’t know how to be around him anymore.

He’s a constant presence. He’s a solid pillar for Leo to lean against when his legs don’t want to hold him up. But they don’t know what to say to each other. That unspoken understanding, that twin thing—it’s gone. 

Or so Leo thinks. 

Big Mama is more of a weird estranged relative than a mortal enemy these days, but she’s an entrepreneur first, eccentric wine aunt second. When she gets a big business idea, all bets are off. Leo can kind of respect that. It’s really thrilling and a little fun trying to match wits with a criminal mastermind, like high-stakes 5D chess. 

But her invitations could use some work. Sending a bunch of burly yokai in Grand Nexus uniforms to intercept the turtles on their way to Run of the Mill for dinner is a scheme that could have used a bit more time on the workshop table. 

Immediately Leo’s brothers close ranks around him. He’s allowed to run around in his leg brace at this point, but he has, in no uncertain terms, NOT been cleared to fight. He can tell from the set of Raph and Mikey’s shoulders that they’re beyond ticked off, but he can’t read Donnie’s posture at all. 

It’s bad timing, but suddenly Leo is preoccupied with those dark little thoughts he’s been having recently. Maybe Donnie isn’t happy to have him around. It’s been a lot of extra work, right? Dealing with the prodigal brother’s physical therapy and night terrors aside, now Donnie can’t even pick up some pizza without having to play bodyguard. 

So Leo is distracted—sue him. He’s got a lot going on. When an owl guard grabs him by the arm, he’s not ready for it. The yank backwards causes him to stumble, bad knee bending underneath him. 

The guard seems to loom over him for a moment. The evening gloom of the alleyway and the lurid glow of a nearby neon sign makes Leo’s brain sprint right back to the prison dimension. A distressed chirp works its way out of him before he can fully reorient himself. Add that to his ever-growing list of Good Reasons To Fake His Own Death. 

Big Mama’s goon looks surprised by the sound, grip relenting on Leo’s arm immediately. He wouldn’t do that if he were here for villainous reasons. So Big Mama probably actually considers kidnapping via sudden ambush to be a halfway decent method of picking her nemeses-slash-nephews up for an evening visit. 

Leo only has a second to think, Okay, I can work with this, turning up the charm and pretending like he can’t still feel the aftershocks of panic, before he’s being yanked again. 

This time he’s pulled right in against Donnie’s side, a strong arm around his carapace. There’s a burst of light and warmth—bright purple and overheated electronics, he’d know his brother’s ninpo anywhere—and they’re surrounded by a gleaming, glowing arsenal. 

The owl guard didn’t have a chance in hell. Donnie still doesn’t really look at Leo, not once as Mikey and Raph rush over, not even on the empty-handed trek back home. 

But he sits next to Leo on the couch while Mikey enlists Raph and papa’s help with dinner since their pizza run failed. The bickering and Mikey’s cooking playlist create a familiar, comfortable backdrop where it swells out of the kitchen. Donnie’s shoulder knocks against Leo’s. It feels like how it used to. 

Before he can lose courage, Leo blurts, “The thing I miss most from before is being twins with you.”

As soon as he says it, he wants to take it back. This is more mortifying than all of those initial grueling physical therapy sessions combined. 

He’s scrambling for an escape route that isn’t just hobbling away as fast as he can, or portaling to the bottom of the ocean, when Donnie suddenly says, “Draxum said we hatched together. We’ve been together all our lives. You’re pulling our twin card just because I'm finally taller than you?”

Leo sputters. “By an inch!”

Donnie raises an eyebrow at him, waiting with uncharacteristic patience for Leo to catch up. Maybe that’s what he’s been doing this whole time. 

Eyes stinging, Leo slouches into Donnie’s side. The softshell matches him, his cheek coming to rest on the top of Leo’s head. It reminds Leo of hugging Mikey earlier that morning at the breakfast table. 

Leo still fits here. There’s a good chance he always will. 

“Guess this finally makes me the older twin, huh, Nardo?”

It surprises Leo into laughter, maybe the first big loud laugh to come tripping out of him since well before the invasion. Conversation in the kitchen grinds to a halt and Mikey and Raph come barreling out a second later all covered in flour, eager to catch him in the act, to get in on it. 

“Sorry, Tello,” Leo says, grinning, not very sorry at all. “Not in this lifetime.”

So. How do the brothers (yes, including Raph even tho he wasn’t separated from him) react to seeing Splinter again? Does Raph resent his dad? How is Splinter different in this AU? Also - Jinx has psychosis in Arcane, so does Donnie hallucinate seeing or hearing dead people?? Maybe he hallucinated his brothers being there for so many years and built up these fake personas of them that is totally different from how his brothers actually are?? 🤔

Splinter is a lot more broken, and hard on himself here. Raph is such a empathetic character that he can see how much losing Leo and Mikey, even Donnie, the brother he never got to know, weighs on his dad, so he tries to be understanding. They’re a lot closer as a result. Splinter also doesn’t hide his past, as that’s kinda hard to do when they’re actively being hunted, and if Splinter is gonna tell Raph about his past with Saki, then he might as well tell him about everything.

Mikey isn’t hostile, just suspicious of Splinter and takes forever to trust him, but Splinter understands how Big Mama works and they come to a good place eventually. They do a lot of bonding activities, and Mikey even helps Splinter finally deal with his own Battle Nexus trauma.

Leo and Donnie are probably the most resentful/combative. Once Leo is able to untangle all the lies Shredder fed him, he takes to avoiding Splinter. They got off on the wrong foot already, and Leo knows that Splinter is uncomfortable with the way Leo treats him so formally. When Leo called him Master Splinter with such a dead look in his eyes, Splinter had to immediately cancel training and leave the dojo.

Donnie replaces Draxum with Splinter as easily as inserting a new memory card into an old slot, but is so thrown when his accomplishments get heaps of praise. His brain screams at him to pushpushpush, to find the limit of Splinter’s seemingly endless well of patience. Three’s so unbalanced by everything—but he’s not an idiot, he can see the way Splinter grinds his teeth when Donnie does something bad. So why is he never punished like his brothers? Leo slaughtered more than a dozen Foot soldiers and was “grounded” for a month. Mikey made a mess in the kitchen and couldn’t go anywhere until he cleaned up after himself, and he was given supply run duty for two weeks. Yet as stupidly tame as those punishments were, Donnie had pulled things just as bad, but the worst he ever got was a long lecture. It doesn’t make any logical sense…Three spent so much of his life wishing to be considered special, and now he’s being treated better than his brothers, at least in this one aspect. So why does it feel like he’s being mocked instead? Why does it feel like Splinter thinks he’s weak, just like Draxum had, only in a different way? He’s not soft, but he’s being treated with kid gloves.

I hate "the AI future"

My main training is in IT, and I was told often that they don't need me - they got "AI". So I worked a bit with art to make ends meet. "Oh, why should we commission you? We got AI". So now I do some work that I am not qualified for and only can do it because it is not heavy work. I am able to do it, but it is not even at minimum wage.

And I am lucky that I have that. I went to manual labour places, where the foreman looked at me, and went "sorry, no. Please look elsewhere". I was told I am overqualified to be a janitor or a server. I was told I need even more stuff I can't afford to do shelf stacking or delivering pizza.

So... "AI" will take our jobs, so when we can't do things - where will we get money? WHO will be able to buy any of the slop being tossed out? It is a monopoly, because these "AI" companies all made their internet scraping machines. We can't really fix this any more, I fear, but...

People won't care. They don't want to care. It's not something you can fix if we install a fully automated gay space communism tomorrow - because this is using human apathy for the way it can spread. The future generations will "enjoy" the mass produced slop, and wonder why they feel empty.

You know, I think the major fault to it is because people were enamoured by the "free" stuff, even as the real costs came out - artists being fired, insane power costs, water and electricity bills well beyond a smaller developed country, the whole market being slowly overtaken by megacorps and silicon valley techbros, and so on - and it is understandable. It was a fun toy and a strange little tool, but now that this was found to "work", the same people who want you to get used to not own the items you buy and hold them hostage behind service costs want you to get used to it.

This is just going to collapse on itself. Like buttcoins and eneftees, the market got disrupted for a moment by people who don't understand the systems they want to replace, but it went from "monopoly money useful only for drugs" to "nobody will have a job that can not be automated, so everyone has to fight to become a factory worker or server"; and thus, here, nobody will be able to buy anything. It's like they figured out how to become the global industrial version of the Ottoman Empire or Tsarist Russia.

Spoiler alert: it will collapse on itself when nobody can buy anything the factories and the slop machines produce, and it will collapse hard. Question is, when and how will we get back from it? Will that future be any better, or we will get another loop from incompetent techbros trying to get their stupid Torment Nexus, and then wonder why it hurts?

Anyway, I am somewhat optimistic, but it requires people to realise what the costs are for "cheap" and "easy". It never is cheap and easy.

Until that, anyone who loves their "ai" slot machines should enjoy the slop being served for the enormous costs, and happily dig in, this will be all you get if you don't stop.

From what I've seen of your replies this might be a bit outside of your wheelhouse, but I was wondering if you had any tips for setting up or piloting a Lancaster that doesn't use a MULE Harness or a winch.

The Restock Drones and ACESO Stabilisers seem pretty dang handy, but it can be a difficult deciding what to slot on the mech with its available systems capacity. Only having one weapon mount is precarious and I've been leaning on some personalised systems for redundancy and added durability.

Is there anything you think I'm missing?

The MULE harness and cable winch are common for a reason—many pilots find they help a Lancaster find a good supportive niche. But don’t worry! There are many other ways to be supportive.

Here are some tips for Lancaster end users who wish to try a different experience than the common Fomorian-pattern MULE:

The Lancaster possesses a rugged, robust sensor and computer processor package! End users are encouraged to use these systems either to debuff enemies or bolster allies as necessary.

While the Lancaster may only possess a single weapon mount, it is an incredibly flexible Main/Aux mount. Try to find two weapons to install on the chassis that compliment both each other and your piloting style. For example, our own Blackspot Targeting Laser is well-suited to be mounted along with a drone nexus for accurate attacks. Many pilots also choose to mount auxiliary melee weapons to take advantage of the extra mobility such systems can offer.

Support comes in many forms! Systems from other mechs (ours and not) such as the Drake, Saladin, Kidd, Hydra, Napoleon, Black Witch, and Emperor can provide you with a variety of support tools to meet your team’s needs. Don’t be afraid to experiment—IPS-Northstar frames are built with compatibility in mind, so no matter what you install we guarantee our hardware will interface with it.

Stardew Local Public Access (I am modding a mod) There is a mod on Nexus called "Always on Plasma TV" https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/20491

The mod makes your TV display images randomly on screen. It appears to pick about 5 or so images per day out of 57 total. It has little images of the movies from the theatre and your regular scheduled broadcast.

I've begun taking the images into photoshop and editing sprites to show villager channels and such and It's been so fun and I wanted to show you a few I have so far and a list of everything I've worked on as well. I'm just about halfway through the 57 images.

I've attached some screenshots of some of them.Everything is a work in progress.

I'm thinking I might make a gossip show with my future husband where I'll tell him all the juicy gossip around town and he reports it. Obviously it's gonna to be the guy who likes to stay home with his computer...

Are there any leosagi fics you recommend for a newbie? I am just now warming up to the ship it’s so cute.

*cracks knuckles* oh, this'll be fun!! welcome to the fold! this is in no particular order, even though i'm still going to plug my all time favourite one first:

Silk and Steel by katanashipping: This is the first leosagi fic I ever read and the one that has haunted me since I first read it in 2014. Rereading it is actually what kickstarted my latest round of tmnt obsession. It's an alternate retelling of s4 and oh, it is so good. The ending scene... *chefs kiss*

In Between Worlds by Koalagriton: I read this one recently and it was so good... A series of drabbles about them reuniting at the next Battle Nexus. The last chapter is my favourite - the fic is kinda bittersweet but I love it to death.

In Circles by Garden_Guardian: A really nice and sweet fix-it fic for the capril wedding where Leo and Usagi actually TALK to each other instead of ignoring each other like awkward exes following Samurai Tourist. Includes some really adorable fanart attached!

Approval by hostofhorus999: A classic 5 times + 1 times fic - this time Usagi getting blessings from Leo's family to propose!!! It's so fucking sweet.

Operation Matchmaker 2: Electric Boogaloo by GreenGoddessSmoothie: A classic 'brothers trying to get leosagi together' tale. Shenanigans ensue, it's great, I laughed super hard.

Operation Elopement 2: Electric Boogaloo by GreenGoddessSmoothie: A direct sequel but about them getting eloped!! It's really cute, made me really emotional.

Fewer Things Forgotten by kay_cricketed: I only recently found out about this one (livejournal was slightly before my time lol) but it's a leosagi fic in 50 sentences and ohh it's so good. I initially wasn't sure if I'd enjoy this style of one-sentence stories but it pulled some real emotions out of me!!

The next three are multi-chaptered and pretty wordy but I still recommend:

Dragon of the Sun by ForestWhisper3: Okay so technically this is a Mikey-centric fic but the leosagi in it is so good I had to include it. It's a retelling of the Ultimate Drako arc featuring mystic!Mikey and it's a lot of fun. The leosagi parts are in chapters 5+6 but PLEASE read the whole thing it's super good and I'm kinda obsessed.

The Tortoise and the Hare by AmevelloBlue: REQUIRED READING (/j). This fic is super good. It recontextualises all leosagi episodes in 2k3, adds in missing scenes and then spins off into a really cool climax featuring Jei and it's just - super good. Loved it. Reread it three times already.

No Room For Dying by Amevello Blue: Direct sequel to Tortoise and Hare. This is the Ninja Tribunal arc we deserved honestly. Really highlights how shitty the tribunal is, Usagi slots into the plot seamlessly, it explores Usagi's own trauma from UJ which I really appreciated, the relationship drama is perfect and... yep. Just a really solid read. I'm going to do my third reread once I hit season 5 on my rewatch.

finally, i am not above plugging my own fics... i recently wrote one for tmnttober from usagi's pov where he's celebrating tanabata with the hamato family and trying to keep his crush on leo under wraps: climb up to my view, see the world in my shoes
