OH MY GOD I FEEL SO DUMB. THIEVIUS RACCOONUS IS PROBABLY SUPPOSED TO BE A PLAY ON SCIENTIFIC ANIMAL NAMES. I JUST THOUGHT TOOK IT AT FACE VALUE AND THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A COOL SOUNDING NAME FOR THE BOOK HELP

Other people: *mocking the assumed foolishness and negligence of Clockwerk to knowingly pull a Batman’s parents on Sly Cooper* *complaining about what is assumed to be a cheap writing excuse to explain Sly’s survival of the Fiendish’s Five’s attack on his home*
Me: But actually? No? It wouldn’t have been smarter on Clockwerk’s part to “finish the job” with Sly back then. Clockwerk pigeonholed himself into a fruitless job that is not meant to be finished.
Like if you really want to ponder on it, Clockwerk could be forced, in a way, to ensure the continuation of the cooper line, not the end of it. When you define and depend your whole existence on that which you hate, what do you have left when the object of your ire is no more? Clockwork would have died if his hate was ever allowed to diminish or find resolution. He’s like a ghost bound only to his power and body by a single remaining tether, and that tether is the drive to tread on the grave of the Cooper Clan’s legacy.
He doesn’t loathe them personally, he hates everything they represent and stand for, because he once envied it to the point of madness. That’s why he sundered the Thievious Raccoonus and left our Cooper untouched. He told you so himself. Notice how coincidentally the attack was timed on the very day Sly was meant to inherit the book? It was all about letting the boy learn what it meant to be a Cooper and then ripping away from him the access to everything his ancestors learned and built to help him carry that torch.
This gamble of his, this experiment he planned out that involved letting Connor’s son escape the slaughter, that’s the way he keeps himself going while staring down the barrel of the only real threat to his immortality. Killing them all, he reckoned in his centuries of reflection, wouldn’t fulfill his vendetta. He wanted to prove without any shadow of doubt that there was nothing about the Coopers that made them inherently superior to him- who himself was once only an owl. He was after their reputation. Murder was one of many methods, but complete humiliation was the actual goal. Clockwerk was probably snickering to himself all the way from the volcano for years, giddy at the thought of this child he reduced from the son of a master thief to an orphaned pauper. What he wanted was for Sly to live on… live on and be the last pathetic, miserable shred of the Cooper memory that Clockwerk could compare himself to once he has achieved everything him and the Five had set out to accomplish.
Giving their line the final glory of a tragic and sudden end like that after one unlucky slip of Connor’s vigilance was more than he could stomach. His greatest enemies don’t deserve to be remembered with that honor intact. Had Sly moved on and done literally anything else with his life but successfully take up that mantle and reap revenge, then the bird would have won. He would have never been bothered again by the owl either, I bet. Clockwerk just had to take that (astronomically unlikely) risk to see the boy’s potential through. It’s the only reason that dark force has kept him going literally up to and through the second game.

I just had an idea
Imagine we get a Sly Cooper movie. The movie starts off with Sly stealing his case file from Inspector Fox's office so he can track down the Fiendish Five and retrieve the pages from the Thievious Raccoonus.
But that's not all, the movie through cinematic storytelling also reveals his secondary goal: to also find any surviving Cooper family members.
Throughout this hypothetical film, he, Bentley and Murray, track down the Fiendish Five one by one, retrieve some missing pages, and are given the next location of the Five through the first member.
As this hypothetical film progresses, we see Sly getting more anxious about his missing family members. He's skimming through that pages that he's collected - reading through the entries of several Cooper clan members - desperate for any sort of clue.
Then the movie finally gets to Clockwerk's lair in the Krakarov Volcano. Sly sneaks in, very careful to not draw any attention to himself.
Sly stumbles into a secret computer room. Now this is the important part, this is a scene that mirrors this scene from Pixar's The Incredibles. Before you read any more, watch it first if you haven't seen it already.
Anyways, ever the snoop, Sly logs into the ginat computer (thanks to some remote hacking from Bentley). He browses the files, and discovers a file name called "Coopers."
He clicks it.
And everything changes.
It starts with Slytankhamun, then Slytankhamun II, then III. Next to their names they are listed as terminated with the version of Clockwerk. Clockwerk v. 1, Clockwerk v. 2, etc.
Sly looks. Big deal, he thinks. They've been dead for 3,000 years.
But then the list gets longer.
The computer keeps going. Salim Al Kupar, terminated. Sir Galleth Cooper, terminated. Riochi Cooper, terminated. Henriette One-Eye Cooper, terminated.
Sly keeps starting at the screen. Mouth agape. The computer keeps going.
Tennessee, terminated. Thaddeus, terminated. Otto, terminated. The computer keeps listing more and more Coopers, ones that hadn't even made it in the Thievious Raccoonus.
All Sly can do is just stare in disbelief as he reads, reads all the Coopers that have been slain by different versions of Clockwerk.
His grandparents? Dead. His aunts and uncles? Dead. His cousins? Dead. All dead.
And it's that moment in this hypothetical film that Sly realizes the horrible, horrible, truth: He is the last one standing. He is the last one left alive.
His goal to find any surviving family members just...evaporates. The thief sinks to his knees and covers his head.
Finally, the computer stops to his mother and father: Conner and Julia Cooper - terminated. Clockwerk is at version 30 by this point.
He searches himself. Next to his name, it says: location known.
It hits him like a truck. He knows he's here.
Suddenly, alarms blare. He's been discovered. Sly tries to make a run for it: but he fails. Clockwerk grabs him, and instead of killing him right then and there - he finds it better to lock him up. To humiliate him a little.
He throws him in a glass chamber. And who else is in the glass prison waiting?
Inspector Fox of course.

Question? Just how BAD was Thieves in Time, I mean I know it ruined Murray’s character development and turned Carmelita into a caricature, but just how BAD would you say it is. If you don’t mind me asking? Not that I’m doubting any criticisms. Hell I haven’t even played it.
very.
like i can say that, to be quite fair? the gameplay is okay. sometimes running around is pretty fun, the colors are very pretty, and to be quite honest i genuinely like a lot tennessee kid and toothpick. BUT here's a quick list of things i really dont like about TiT ♥
in the first 2 minutes they throw the ending of sly 3 in the drain by having sly say "wow i sure miss stealing :)" and coincidentally bentley gives him a reason to steal
also everything works with coincidences. like LUCKILY they always have something that allows them to travel back in time in the specific moment they need to. it's very luck-based
about that, time travel is handled TERRIBLY. leparadox literally sends peopel back to "ThE fIrSt CoOpEr" in prehistoric era and all that changes is the fact that the thievious raccoonus pages vanish, except at the end where the main baddie controls the world for some reason? idk
generally, it's a time travel game. like yea sly always had sci-fi and paranormal stuff going on, but the base stories were very solid and down-to-earth, if you think about it. revenge, drugs, murder, backstabbing... and this one has time travel
except for like, two or three? all the new characters are either a rip-off (like grizz with dimitri, miss decibel with octavio and, again, dimitri, we got yet another tiger character) or AWFUL (leparadox and bob cooper my fucking despised i kill and bite)
about that, you know how the final boss in every game is VERY heavy, very deep, is terrifying and their victory would mean the end not only for our gang, but more often than not at least paris? yea uhhh leparadox' reason to GO BACK IN TIME and DELETE SLY FROM EXISTENCE is "his dad stole a diamond my dad wanted to steal and he went to jail"
quick time event final boss
so many ancestors to pick and they had to 1) dehimbofy salim to make him a Lazy Fat Old Man Joke and 2) create bob fucking caveman cooper. like on one hand it's better they don't touch any other canon character but. yea
penelope not only reusing her plot in sly 3 to disguise herself but also being turned into a villain because "without sly bentley wouldn't have morals and we'd be rich (you know, despite the fact they literally HAVE THE COOPER VAULT THERE) so now i hate him"
penelope being sexualized
carmelita being overly sexualized
carmelita being forced to bellydance by bentley and sly (yea, really, she's forced to do it)
carmelita being either a damsel in distress or a stereotypical angry latina ex girlfriend for the entire game
honestly racism in general? like rioichi is "wise japanese old man who invented sushi" and leparadox being "the smelly french"
haha i forgot the fatphobia literally every single joke about murray and miss decibel are HAHA FAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
as you said, they completely threw the gang's development down the toilet. sly letting his friends live a more safe life and wanting to stay with carmelita? LOL HE WANTS TO STEAL XD!!!! carmelita understanding that her and sly are on the same side? who CARES angry ex gf flirts with her ex bf' grandpas lol!!!!!!!!! murray and bentley becoming confident? yea i bet we can rewrite that in one episode instead of three entire games! penelope is an evil bitch lol!!!!!!!!!
bad designs. yea i said it. the designs are awful and bad
bad animation. yea i fucking said it it SUCKS
the game missions being 60% sly, 25% ancestors, 10% bentley, 4% murray and 1% carmelita
carmelita is literally a character you can select from the safehouse but her 4 missions (yeah, i counted) are all just little parts of missions you start with another character
they released a short with the gang that had muggshot in there, right? and carmelita, the ONLY ONE who could TAKE HIM DOWN IN HAND-TO-HAND COMBAT, is captured and left behind by sly (yknow, sly "if she isnt around to try and catch me it isnt fun to be a thief" "i'd literally give up my entire family name for her" cooper) just ties her up better and leaves her behind aND ALSO TAKES DOWN MUGGSHOT WITH ONE (1) PUNCH
general misunderstanding of the previous games, going from slycarm's relationship, to penelope casually forgetting they have all the riches of the cooper family, to clockwerk's eye being a collectionable that "somehow survived clockwerk literally fucking melting forever", to flashbacks of previous games being blatantly wrong and much more
...and MUCH MORE.
LIKE A LOT MORE.
IT SUCKS!!!!!!!! IT FUCKING SUCKS
WE END IN A GODDAMN CLIFFHANGER AND SANZARU OPENLY SAID THEY ARENT INTERESTED IN MAKING A SEQUEL

I was in a "Sly cooper" mood the other day after watching ratchet and clank rift apart cutscenes.
An alternate future where Clockwerk succeeded in his goal in killing Cooper, left with an dystopian future where Clockwerk rules at all, a small resistance group fights to take back their freedom and their future led by a future Bentley, a future Murray, and a new Cooper.
This is Vega, she is somewhat the new Cooper of the future the future where Clockwork rule it but she is not a true actual Cooper that line died with Sly. She was a girl who found the Thievious Raccoonus and learn from it, she even made her own Cooper Kane. She now works for the resistance in taking down Clockwerk, a past Bentley end up in their future and encounters Vega. He worked with resistance to prevent that future from happening and getting back to his own time.
i got the post from my masters of anatomy book

I bet Murray and Bentley also learned from the Thievious Raccoonus.
Because there were different body types throughout Cooper history. Like Slaigh MacCooper? Dude was RIPPED! I bet Sly can’t do what he could...but I bet Murray can.
And Sly no doubt had more technological ancestors. So Bentley could study those parts of the book and learn from it.
Just...a lovely little thief family. Y’know?

Sly has a lot to be proud of.
Sure, he didn’t add in any cool thief moves to the Thievious Raccoonus, but you know what he did do?
He protected it.
He preserved it.
He saved it. And in turn, he saved his legacy. He saved his history. That’s so important.
And you know what else happened? Sly changed the tune of his legacy. The Cooper Clan isn’t all about just being a master thief anymore. It’s about friendship, family, forgiveness, and love. It’s about unity and togetherness.
Sly’s contribution to the legacy was to save it, and to expand it. It’s not only about the Coopers anymore. Bentley and Murray have contributed to the Thievious Raccoonus now. Carmelita has been inside the Cooper vault. Hell, Carmelita “killed” Clockwerk!
Sly might not have invented “the next big thief move,” but he showed that his legacy could be shared. He offered more to his friends and family than other Coopers ever did. He shared his history with them.
So, in the end, Sly has nothing to be ashamed of. Not only did he save his legacy, but he changed it. No longer is it about a bunch of Coopers doing amazing things. Now it’s about a gang doing amazing things.

concept: the cooper gang should retire from thieving, because it seems that the 3 of them invidividually do just fine without it. sly could have a kid one day and tell them about the first game and the events of it and the thievious raccoonus. it would be a good conclusion, and almost as good as sly 3's was. or something like that.
AND in sly 5, since sly is in egypt, he could go through a transformation of sorts - learn more about the nature of clockwerk, etc.
it would also be necessary for sly to have closure with resigning from his thieving.
it'd be interesting if some flashback thing happened too, with Sly's dad or clockwerk, like with the panda king in sly 3. (also, sly could discover his secret cooper technique, if he has one.)
there are some implications that there's more to clockwerk too.
maybe a tribute with sly can also be in place, like when you collect all of the pages for the thievious raccoonus in the first game (a secret movie plays). reblog this with extensions or changes if you want, or ur own thoughts.

Congrats to "Sly Cooper and the Thievious Raccoonus" for reaching the age to vote in the USA! But you know what they say, you're only as old as you feel. So... How old DO you feel?
Pretty young.
