Small gestures of kindness

The world has changed, or maybe it hasn’t changed but through Covid-19  we notice the change. What is clear, in Covid, we are not the same people and small gestures of kindness have become even more important. In Covid, our gestures follow us.

Through small gestures of kindness, we demonstrate who we are. From a kind smile to brighten someone’s day, to showing gratitude; to words that encourage. Being kind, bringing gestures bring warmth, kind gestures bring strength.

It is the small gestures that have the biggest impact. It’s not the big things that bring us the most pleasure or happiness, it’s the little things. It is the small kind gestures that create the biggest ripples.

It is the same with words. Words can be kind, soothing, or they can be back-biting and scathing. Words that we use to set out to hurt that are unkind, scathing, says a lot about us and can be the difference between others having a good, or bad day.

The wrong words can cause stress and anxiety, but the right words will always bring peace. The right words sooth the soul, mend and empower us to want to do and be better. Words express a person’s motives, explain a person’s character. It is important to get those right.

The right words and gestures make us feel loved, and empower change in us, to become better people. In Covid-19, it is very much needed. In Covid-19 things aren’t going un-noticed. Everything is noted; if anything through social media, it has become too obvious.

Danger Sign 3: Small Gestures

As criminals are evaluating you as a victim or planning their attack, their stress levels rise. If they believe their declarations may lead to some form of danger for themselves or those in their care, they may start to make smaller body language gestures (that’s an effort to protect themselves). The criminal doesn’t want you to see his psychological stress reactions, so he subconsciously “masks” them by covering his face, eyes, or neck.  It is very common to see criminals do the following immediately before their attack:

– Touching the face or neck

– Wiping at the nose or mouth

– Rubbing the eyes

– Smoothing the hair

– Rubbing the neck

– Scratching the head

– Rubbing the arms or chest as if shivering

– Or making any other gesture that partially conceals the criminal’s face/neck area from view

Another small gesture to look out for is “Target glancing”. When a criminal wants to steal something from you, he has to figure out how to physically remove it from your protection. Sometimes that takes time. While the criminal is figuring out his plan of action, he will likely be staring at what he wants to take.  This is called this “target glancing.”

The display of any one pre-assault indicator or body language cue is not enough to instantly brand the person who displays it as a criminal. “Normal” people sometimes make these gestures as well.  Look at clusters of signs.  When you start seeing two, three, or four different indicators, recognize that you are likely being groomed for a criminal attack.
