[Moonlight] is the boy of all time. From his perspective, he successfully scouted out a talented new coworker, got blatantly propositioned while the ink was still wet on the contract, thought "wow, this guy is forward, but we really need his skills so... okay," within a month had fully progressed to, "it's fine to get married first and fall in love later," and then just. fell SO HARD. for a guy who, in his own POV sections, HAD NO IDEA his behavior even could be interpreted as flirty. For his actual character, the gap moe between "doting thinks-he's-a-boyfriend" and "super serious taskmaster" is adorable.

My sunshine son!! Got isekai'd into another world pretty similar to his original one, and basically just went "welp, time to restart my career from the bottom! I did it once, I can do it again!"  Re: the differences from his original world, he straight-up just asks people questions and takes notes in front of them? And when they're like "how do you not know this, this is preschool level knowledge," he just laughs and goes, "yeah, I'm really forgetful and didn't pay attention in school." Iconic, honestly. Still doesn't stop him from mistaking social cues so thoroughly that he  accidentally gets into a romantic relationship without realizing it, due to having multiple chicken-and-duck conversations with his would-be boyfriend. (He got into the situation by basically propositioning the guy without noticing, having not paid attention to the social differences between worlds.)

[Poor Single Dog]! My brilliant dumbass son! He's so book smart, yet can't see what's right in front of his face. He's really concerned about losing his Best Friend Status when the protags start spending time together (read: going out, because they're in love). There is no level of PDA he can't misunderstand as mere friendship. When he FINALLY gets hit by a clue-by-four (read: walks in on the main couple cuddling while doing the dishes, and one of them says, quote, "This is EXACTLY what it looks like!") his reaction is: [Poor Single Dog] remained silent for what seemed like a century. Thank you for the request anon ! I enjoyed working on this, and I've left it under the cut since it's a bit lengthy. My asks are open, and any opinions/suggestions are welcome c: Themes: blood, physical aggression, SFW/no sexual content, villain AU.

It was a night just like any other. You were working late for a cybersecurity company that outsourced its workers on a temporary basis. You were fortunate enough to have a 6 month contract with them, but you never realised the extent of their work. You had spent countless nights working late, stuck at your computer and trying to catch up with what was left on your plate from your co-workers. It wasn't something that bothered you though; the silence in the office, the lights of the street across from the windows, the tranquillity you felt in your isolation were enough to justify the long nights. And so you kept working head on, adamant to leave the office by 3am at the most. But the more you worked, the more you realised just how much was left to complete. It was going to be a draining night, and you were unprepared for what was going to come next.

1am finally rolled around; you were left with mental fog, and decided to step away from your setup for a moment and get something to eat. One of the benefits of this company was that all meals were paid for, and you could eat whenever you wanted. You chose a comfort dish to help you energise for the next lap of work you were faced with, and let it cook in the microwave while you scrolled social media. You found yourself doomscrolling news outlets discussing a vigilante raiding online spaces, creating havoc and chaos wherever they explored online, all behind a faceless icon and name. The news were eating their actions up, and you couldn't help but be drawn by the way they discussed them. Their name was S, thats all they left as a calling card. No one could access their information, and the public were left blind as to what was being done to stop them. Recently, S had arranged attacks on airports, rendering their systems useless and grounding any planes that were planning to take off. Aircraft and travel companies lost millions, and they was determined to be behind it. You were somewhat impressed, but knew cyber companies, like yours, were on their hitlist. It was bound to happen, but at least you knew as much as you could about them now.

The microwave clicked, rang it's usual bell to tell you it was finished, and you quickly put your phone away to enjoy this dish. You brought it back to your desk in an effort to not waste more time than was necessary. And as you enjoy yourself, the warm feeling filling your heart and stomach as you ate each bite carefully, that's when you noticed it. A small notification in the right hand corner of your screen; anyone could've missed it, but it seemed to linger on your screen with no ability to close it or see where it came from.

"That looks good, are you enjoying yourself?" The notification said, leaving you confused and dazed. You couldn't find the origin of it, and there was no trace of a hack on you. What was this? Your mind filled itself with ideas as you let your dish slowly get cold. You saw it swiftly disappear, before another took it's place.

"You're a smart one. How about we put that brain to use and play a game? I'll make it worth your while - S". How could it be them? Who was S? You knew companies like yours were bound to be hit, but this soon? Right after you watched those videos? Something didn't feel right, and the impending doom that was filling your chest was only growing as the seconds passed by. Your mind flashed with possibilities, endlessly counting over the ideas of what this 'game' could be. You had no choice but to accept, out of sheer confusion and curiosity. You didn't want to lose everything, and give up in fear of what S may do to retaliate.

You were left with no choice, and you said under your breath "I'll have to won't I? What are you planning?". Your tone was sharp, and filled with embarrassment. There was no one else there with you in the office, and yet you still felt silly speaking to yourself. What would people think if they looked back on the security footage and saw you doing this? It was shameful, but you didn't know how else to tell S that you agreed with their game.

The notification left again, and after a minute or so passed, another took it's place, but this time it was at the centre of your screen. It was much bigger, with the background of the text box being purple now instead of the default theme. "Would you rather keep the lights on or the heating on?" You were confused, what did this mean? It felt like you were being left out of key information, and it was killing you alive. You sat quietly, considering your options. What would cause the least amount of fallout, and what choice could you live with yourself choosing? Everything with S had a deeper meaning, you assumed, and you went with your gut and chose heating. Lights are easily replaced with flashlights and the sun that would rise again in the morning. She couldn't stop them, but you knew heating was one of the biggest needs for humans. You uttered the choice you made, as though you were scared of the outcome. And that's when it happened.

You instantly noticed the lights that danced on your skin through the window across your desk were flickering at first. They were fighting back what was happening to them, and you were left in a terrified state as you watched street lights, home lights, dim lights left around the office all turn off, one after another. A complete blackout. All that was left was your computer. And suddenly, everything felt... hotter. As though the heating was turned up instantly. You could feel sweat pushing itself through your clothes quickly, as you felt you were being boiled alive, cemented to your chair. Your hair was quickly damp, and your breathing laboured. You were felt feeling overwhelmed, sticky, and as though you were suffocating on the humid air surrounding you. Your eyes watered, and you tried to focus as you heard noises across the office.

You darted your gaze around, trying desperately to see what's going on, if someone was there, before a new notification appeared on your computer with a chime this time attached to get your attention. You couldn't think properly, and you wondered whether everyone in the area was going through this too, or just you? You didn't know, but you couldn't focus on that right now, only how to stop this. Your computer was rendered useless the minute you agreed to the game - you couldn't counter the attacks, access internet connection, trace back the breach, or do anything with your mouse and keyboard. Your computer was now just a monitor, being used by S to torture you and subject you to their cruelty. The notification began to repeatedly chime, bringing you back to reality from your imagination and thoughts. You slowly read what the next prompt was, and you were left horrified.

"Would you rather be attacked physically or digitally?" You had an inkling as to what this would mean, as though your intuition was working overtime to predict the possibilities. You knew if you chose digitally, then the attacks would be harsh on the area, and understood what would happen if you chose physically. You had to decide whether to hurt yourself, or everyone around you. It was a decision that weighed heavily on your conscience, and the more the notification chimed, the more overwhelmed you became. You knew what you had to do, and needed to find the strength deep down to accept your fate. All that was left to utter the word 'physical' and you'd meet face to face with your demise.

And so you did exactly that - you let the word fall from your lips, in hopes that your end would be quick and painless. You felt as though God himself wasn't able to help you anymore; your once peaceful isolation was filled with paranoia, fear and anxiety. All you could do was stay frozen in your chair, watching as your computer screen accepted your answer, followed by a new screen that showed S' infamous calling card. A hacker symbol, as though it was her graffiti tag, was placed front and centre of your computer. You were hopeless, and were left stunned as you heard footsteps grow louder, closer. Your heart raced, and your mind panicked at the possibilities of what could be coming. Was it a group? Were they going to shoot you, batter you, abuse you? The uncertainty was killing you, and it made your soul shake within itself.

That's when you heard it clearly, whoever was here was behind you, and you couldn't bring yourself to turn around and face your abuse front and centre. You closed your eyes, and tried to calm the racing heart that was pounding against your ribcage. You felt as though you were going to die from a heart attack or heat stroke before whoever was behind you would get a chance to strike. Maybe that would've been better, you considered. Maybe then you wouldn't have to possibly live with the guilt of your decisions. You felt disgusted with yourself, and before you could linger with that feeling further, you felt a cold, heavy hand grasp your hair. It's fingers laced itself between your hair strands, and it held your head in place with a strength you weren't prepared for.

The hand on your head pulled it back, forcing your eyes to stay tightly shut, too afraid to open and witness what was in front of you. You played in your mind memories from the past, let yourself reminisce one last time before you were met with your choice. You suddenly felt warm air drift across your cheeks, as though someone was breathing right on you. It made you sweat more, slowly realising how close your attacker was; it made your heart sink deeper into your chest, with the anxiety building to a point of no return. You kept your eyes shut, and stayed frozen in place, unable to bring yourself to fight back against them. You were left hopeless, as though you were a rabbit being hunted down by a lone wolf.

"Open your eyes, Chiquillo/a, I can't keep playing with you if you won't even look at me" they said, their voice feminine and yet dominating. You felt as though your mind was being abused by their voice, it rattled inside your skull as though it was poisonous. Their tone was sharp, and assertive, with a hint of playfulness. The grip on your hair was growing stronger, pulling your head further back, before you could feel them press against your cheek. "You're only making things worse for yourself by ignoring me. Either open your eyes, or I will for you." the voice stated, in a much more frustrated tone once they realised how vigilant you were staying with keeping your eyes closed. They enjoyed watching you writhe under their grip, as though they were playing with their food. It was torture, but you knew if you didn't open your eyes it would be much worse. You couldn't handle it anymore, and so you let your eyes slowly widen, taking in the figure that was watching you. Your computer was the only thing letting you see them, with it's glow highlighting only what they wanted you to see.

When you looked at the figure from the corner of your eye, the first thing you noticed was their mask. It covered their eyes, obscuring any features you could see from the apples of their cheeks and up. It reminded you of a masquerade mask, but with cybernetic features. It had glowing LEDs throughout, helping you see just how intricate it's design was. As you continued analysing your newfound enemy, you noticed something else almost instantly. This figure was a woman. You were caught off guard, but it didn't change how terrified you were. Your heart raced as you studied the design of her outfit, her mask, her lips. You were left dumbfounded at the woman that stood there, gripping your hair and standing so close to you that she probably could feel the blood rushing through your veins. Your mind was scattered, and you had no words left to use to defend yourself.

"Good. You know how to follow directions; looks like you're not all that useless." the woman said in a stern way, still holding you close to her as she ushered these words into your ears. You felt vulnerable, and knew this was just the beginning of what she was planning. "You know who I am by now, don't you?" she asked, in a teasing way, as though she enjoyed the mystery surrounding her identity. You shook your head, not able to formulate words to respond to her with. Your mind was blank, and your body was a puppet being used by this woman. You were under her control already, and you couldn't bring yourself to even mutter a word to her. How could she be so powerful? Who was she? "It doesn't matter either way, it's not like you'll live to tell the tale after all. Name's Sombra, nice to finally meet you after our game. I've been watching this company for a while, especially you. You're the only one who's gotten close to finding my breeches, and it's time that you were put down once and for all." Your core shook with anxiety. You were face to face with, presumably, S. How could this happen? How could she know these things? And how could you let this happen? Your mind raced with possibilities, and you couldn't process what was happening fully before she slammed your head against the keyboard. Your mind fluttered in and out of consciousness, with the pounding from your heart now in your head. She enjoyed watching you cry in pain, unable to bring yourself to stop her.

"You're the perfect toy for me to use right now, and I can't wait to watch you crumble. People like you deserve it." her words echoed throughout your mind, as she whispered in your ear with sheer enthusiasm. You were done, and your crime was working tonight. You were left hopeless, out of control, and wanting to escape. But you couldn't. Your body was disconnected from your mind now, and you had no choice but to endure it.

You felt nothing but peace before blacking out. At least you weren't present for what Sombra did to your body, the violence it endured. You were thankful for the fact that your mind was protecting you from the trauma inflicted. You were blacked out, and unconscious until 5am, when you woke to paramedics rushing you out of the building with co-workers surrounding your body in panicked states. You couldn't remember what happened beyond those last words spoken to you, and you wish you could to help the police stop her.

Your office space was declaired a crime scene; blood stained your keyboard and mousepad, your desk was splintered from repeated slams into it, your chair broken and your computer screen was smashed, with one final notification on it. No one could get rid of it, and it stained the screen with light burns. Everyone who read it felt unnerved, and you weren't told what it was until you were interviewed by detectives. Once you found out, your blood boiled. You felt disgusted, as though you were just the start of something more sinister. As you tried to recover in hospital, the final notification replayed over and over in your mind, as though Sombra was saying it to you directly.

"Let this scene be a warning for anyone who tries to stand in my way. The pain your company has caused people will be exposed, and I will be watching the downfall of those undeserving of mercy with a smile on my face. - S"

3. a character that fandom has helped you appreciate

It's certainly Midori. I didn't really get his appeal initially but several posts along with some YouTubers convinced me that his character is interesting. For me he's the mad sadistic scientist combined with childish desire to play, except he plays with people. Not in normal way but like with toys. I used to think he's not that intimidating or scary but looking back to how he made everyone sign the contract and how he influenced Shin Midori can be terrifying. The fanarts really capture his playful madness or his unhealthy obsession with Shin. Overall I feel like I have a better grasp on his personality though of course I still can be wrong about him

(I also really hated Shin at first but that's due to my peculiar style of experiencing yttd where at first I thought he was Midori and I didn't watch playthroughs fully so I actually had little idea what was going on in this game. It was fun being so wrong. But analysis of many people showed me that not only he wasn't with kidnappers, he had reasons I could get behind. So hatred was very short-lived)

I really love the draw it in your style events! Everyone makes their own spin on the original art so the little details here and there from different people are fun to notice. Everyone, absolutely everyone adds something interesting, something that makes their fanart unique, while capturing the initial idea. And I like your fanarts there too of course!

I also adore the whiteboards! They create a special, warm sense of unity where you can contribute too. And you can stay anonymous if you want to. I even drew Kanna and Nao once, though as I drew with touchpad of all things it was kinda difficult

Sometimes it's Kanna because she's so sweet and innocent and kind I just want her to be happy. And I kinda relate to her.

Also, maybe not always but quite often Shin can really brighten my mood. Not only do I relate to him in many ways, he became my inspiration to become better. Like I don't know if I sound melodramatic but one time I was thinking about his infamous zero and why he, the smart guy, had no chance to survive. I thought how he manifested his zero into life by believing in it while not believing in himself. I thought about how if he would have been more confident he could have avoided the mess he created at least partially. If only he loved himself more... Suddenly it occurred to me that it was exactly what *I* needed. To not bring myself down, to not overthink what I did wrong, to not compare myself with others. To respect myself for who I am. I imagined that Shin was saying to me "don't hate yourself" and "love yourself" and it hit me. This guy has been my comfort character ever since

The ace attorney ones:

3. It's probably von Karma and Sholmes. I don't really like irredeemable villains but once again he seems so entertaining. On the second rewatch I really appreciated his unapologetic evilness. The guy caused it all for the most petty reason imaginable. And he's perfect to the point where expects Phoenix to cross-examine the parrot. He also has been carrying a bullet in his shoulder for fifteen years. Really what a character. One certain channel (RPG gamer? I forgor how it's named) certainly helps with iconic "what can I say except you're guilty".

As for Sholmes, he didn't feel like original Sherlock Holmes with his enthusiasm but in the end he is your reliable ally that wants to help you. His that one dance is 20/10 and his relationship with Iris is super sweet. I didn't read a lot of fanfics but in the great ace detective his other side is explored, which helped me realise he makes such obvious mistakes due to raising a child, so he uses same method of teaching with Ryuno.

13. I'm not active in ace attorney fandom now but I loved the music competition on Reddit. People took their time to explain in details why they either disliked a soundtrack or defended it. The battle was intense as hell. Shame I don't remember the results

15. I absolutely love Edgeworth and his smug swag, his character arc fascinated me. At the time I thought that his character was literally perfect with balance of flaws and good qualities. Some may say he's too kind in AA2 but I love how he comforts Sebastian too much to care. Maybe there's some plot holes in Rise from the Ashes but still not terrible enough (or they are explainable even, I don't remember). For me he's the example of good writing and I enjoy his journey to the point where I like the first investigation game too

Narae was originally supposed to debut with Lightsum but Cube decided she wasn't a good fit and a staff member even commented that she was too old to debut. She trained with the girls for a very long time and is close to the members.

She's a lover of 90's and early 2000's pop/r&b and is also a huge fan of the girl group XG, which she makes obvious by her numerous tiktok and instagram posts dancing to their songs.

Paris Hilton is Naraes icon. She's always admired her for her confidence, determination and smarts despite the image that the public has of her in mind.

Her contract was due to be terminated until her Father stepped in and invested a large sum of money into the company under the condition that Narae would stay.

Her addition to the group was teased slowly and deliberately with Narae appearing as a background dancer during various performances including on Queendom. Eventually, she started appearing in members' Instagram posts before fans finally noticed her popping up with the girls in vlogs, practicing and interacting a lot with them.

She was officially announced as the newest member in May 2020. and debuted during the group's summer release "DUMDi DUMDi".

After Soojins scandal, Narae gathered a lot of anti-fans for a while, some claiming she conspired against her to have her kicked out or that Narae rich family bribed the company to defame Soojin so that Narae could get more attention.

Although the accusations and hate did get to Narae especially because she was close to Soojin and had known her for a very long time, both attending Waw Middle School and Korean Arts High School together. Naturally, netizens found this information out and became even more convinced that Narae was envious of Soojin and competing against her.

She looks up to Soyeon and often goes to her for advice and is constantly praising the leader, often commenting that Soyeon is like your favorite childhood teddy bear that you cling to for comfort. The two also have very cute interactions together with Soyeon almost appearing like a caring Mother figure to Narae and fans say she brings out the leader's cute and caring side.

I finished the Pandemonium raid series.

I thought Anabaseios was solid.

P9N and P12N are great.

I feel P10N and P11N have the same issues P6N and P7N fell into except to a lesser extent because I like them more.

P9's expanding and contracting donuts and circles were a ton of fun. And I really liked how Kokytos embodying different creatures changed his attacks. Super neat identity to the fight.

P10 was a similar case to P7 in that it had a really unique arena, but this time around I think the dodging was much more interesting and there was at least something that used the arena.

P11 is the weakest fight in Anabaseios, I think. The light/dark balance mechanic did some neat stuff because you had to stay in it and think about area denial a bit, but like a lot of Abyssos, I feel it should've had more mechanics, which were more complex and executed at a faster rate. You had something there, but the boss died before it truly got to stand out. I think I still like it more than P6N and P7N, though because this one specific idea was there "all the way through" and actually evolved, giving it a stronger identity than those fights.

P12 is my favourite fight in Pandemonium, I think, cool manipulation of platforms, neat play on donuts and circles, little bit of memory game dodging. A complete fight where different mechanics actively happened and evolved.

In terms of story, I think this was the most dense part. There were so many element happening at once and I think all of it tied together everything that came before.

We got an answer for what was going on with the Heart of Sabik (which in turn also made Ivalice relevant, which I'm super happy for because it at least made that slog matter).

It made Athena an actual character and she ended up being one of my favourite villains at the very least within all of the raid series because female villains often don't get to be smart or competent, much less have interesting motivations that aren't tied to their gender.

She is a fairly straight-forward as a personality, but the motivations we do get have a bunch of depth – they are tied to the ancients' search for perfection.

She is a foil to Venat's faith in humanity within their imperfection and her belief in humanity's freedom, instead wishing to build a perfect world within her singular vision; another twisted result of the ancients' belief in bettering their world by removing imperfect elements from it.

In a contrast to Hermes who chose to "test" humanity, she takes it upon herself to "perfect" humanity.

She is another result of the flaws of the ancients' society (in conjuction with alien influence, of course, because that always makes things a lot more fun). I dig her character a bunch.

Equally, I love how this final wing of the raid completes the character of Elidibus in its entirety.

I think he's like the perfect morally gray villain because in the end the faction that summoned Zodiark also wished for the world to be saved.

The Ascians were no different from Venat's faction in terms of motivation.

And I love how up to the end, the story is empathetic towards this idea and the character embodying the iconic Warrior of Light image does end up saving the world.

If he wasn't defeated and his aether and being wasn't available within the Crystal Tower, the causal loop/time travel would've never happened and the world would probably not have been saved from the Final Days.

All of the efforts, all of the work ends up worthwile because the world survived, humanity survived.

It's like the perfect ending for a morally ambigious struggle like this to me. Don't remove any of the bad the characters did, but make the noble intentions matter.

I already talked about Lahabrea in a previous post, so there are only two things I want to add.

First, I like how his character arc of taking responsibility and facing his problems and incorporating his bad parts back into himself probably also lead to him becoming Praetorium Lahabrea, but he also admits that yes, he'd probably do all of that because of the strict and uncompromising parts of himself (Athena's/the Heart of Sabik's influence, of course, helping it), so there's some fun causality here.

Second, I like how Athena is quoting his Praetorium speech (technically other way around).

Finally, there are Erichthonios and Claudien.

Him saying no to an abusive parent and becoming your own person making your own choices is such a satisfying character arc. It happened with Hephaistos and was even better with Athena. I actually have no other opinions about him.

Everything with Claudien on the other hand entirely feels like setup.

He has an ancient's memories and is now holding the Heart of Sabik.

Maybe a little too much naivete on the characters' part (ancient alien artifact left with the soul of someone potentially susceptible to its influence), but all of it tells me they have more coming where that came from and the unknown is super fun and exciting.

Now out of the major story material, all I have left is 6.2-6.55 MSQ. Looking forward to it.

Total Drama Island Review, "Not So Happy Campers- Part 1"

Total Drama! It's such an odd show. I'd say about, hmm, 60% of the jokes have aged poorly? But it's such a facet of most of our childhoods. It matters a lot to us even with all of that- and I just think that's neat.

As previously discussed, each elimination round will be held by us as well! Every time someone is voted off the Island, I will hold a poll at the bottom asking who you think should have left that week! Just as a bit of extra fun.

This particular series won't have any Character Introductions, simply because there's so many characters and they're introduced by the show itself, but it will have the usual Synopsis, Fun Tidbits, Character Mistakes, and final Votes!

SYNOPSIS

We open on Chris McLean, a washed-up Hollywood star hoping to revitalize his career. He tells us all about the reality show he's producing- he claims it's somewhere in Muskoka, that twenty-two teenagers have signed up to live here for eight weeks, and at end the winner will be gifted a small fortune and tabloid fame.

The point of this show is the same as ever other reality show- drama. Every three days the campers compete in challenges. The losing team must then decide who to vote off with the iconic marshmallow. The camper voted off is then jetted off on the boat of losers- home, he claims, but everyone whose watched this show knows he's lying.

"Who will crumble under the pressure? Find out here, right now, on Total. Drama. Island!"

"We told them they'd all be staying at this five star resort, so if they seem a little TO'ed that's probably why."

One by one, we meet the campers. We get a little segment on all of them, showcasing exactly the kind of shenanigans we should expect. It's a long list so buckle up:

Beth, sweet but blunt, hugs Chris proclaiming he's a bit short. DJ is a kindhearted guy with a love for animals, high-fiving Chris before grumbling about the application form bullshitting him. Gwen is sullen but not unrightly so, ripping up her contract. Chris laughs that he has more. Geoff parties right off the boat, just a genuinely chill guy. Lindsay is a nice girl but doesn't have a lot going on upstairs other than amazing hair. Heather, clearly less than pleased, recoils from Beth and looks ready to have a hernia. Duncan's fresh from juvie and somehow managed to smuggle a radio into his bag. Tyler- athletic but uh. Not great at sticking the landing. Harold, quiet but intense, is excited to get started. Trent's a guy with a guitar whose probably attractive if you're a teenager and into men, neither of which I was when I saw first watched this show rip. Either way he and Gwen hit it off. Bridgette is a surfer girl who is all about saving animals, even going vegetarian. She accidentally whacks Chris with her board passing through.

Halfway there!

Noah is book-smart and got a sharp tongue. He has life-threatening allergies which Chris casually brushes off. Leshawna is charismatic and loud, something Harold mentions and gets told off for. Katie and Sadie are friends who took the "twinsies!" trend waaaaaaay too seriously. Ezekial is home-schooled and not allowed out much. Cody's got a lot of pep but rolled low on charisma stats. Eva is strong but short-tempered. Owen's a big guy with a big heart and a LOT of love to share. Courtney is proper and a bit full of herself. Justin gets a personality later but for now he's just eye candy. Owen instantly gets a crush and we stan a bisexual king. And Izzy is either a woman with mental issues or a secret genius, depending on the theories you buy into, and crashes chin-first into the deck.

Chris calls the campers to the end of the dock for a promo photo and it collapses beneath them.

"Everyone say Wawanakwa!"

Given ten minutes to dry off, the campers are gathered at the campfire. Chris promises one hundred thousand dollars to the winner- an amount that really isn't worth the hassle, looking back on it- and announces the cabins are co-ed, with women on one side and men on the other. Gwen complains but is shut down by Tyler, who reminds her he's sleeping next to Duncan- currently noogieing a deer.

The campers are then split into two teams: The Screaming Gophers and The Killer Bass. Gwen, Trent, Heather, Cody, Lindsay, Beth, Katie, Owen, Leshawna, Justin, and Noah make the Screaming Gophers, while the Killer Bass are made up of Goeff, Bridgette, DJ, Tyler, Sadie, Izzy, Courtney, Ezekial, Duncan, Eva, and Harold.

Chris explains that everyone will be on tape constantly- even in the toilets, which are designed for private video diaries to let the people back home hear their personal thoughts.

The campers move in (Gophers to the East, Bass to the West) with some mild friction. Heather and Gwen get off on the wrong foot, Cody tries to flirt with Gwen, Lindsay gets a dose of reality upon realizing everyone showers together, and everyone gets a little homophobic about Owen liking to have sleepovers with guys. Still stanning a bisexual king.

Chris further explains that there's no chaperones, leaving twenty-two teenagers to be, well, teenagers. A few on both sides of the cabins get together to murk a cockroach that invades the Gopher's female cabin.

"Listen up! I serve it three times a day, and you will eat it three times a day. Grab your tray, getcha food, and sit your butts down, NOW!"

We meet the other host, Chef Hatchet, serving fiddles at the cafeteria. Chef is a retired military man implied to have been in at least one war. He serves as the camp chef and also as Chris' partner in crime.

Some of the kids fuss over major food groups, but Chef shuts them down. He feeds the scrawny campers extras. Leshawna tries to befriend Eva but is rebuffed. Everyone tucks into food that's still a bit wiggly and Chris returns to introduce the viewers to the main lodge.

Goeff asks for a pizza, and Chef yeets a literal hatchet into the wall. Judging by Chris' lack of reaction, this is not the first time. Terrified, the kids stop asking. Chris explains the first challenge is in an hour and dips back to eat some gold-plated caviar or something.

"What do you think they'll have us do?" "It's our first challenge. How hard can it be?"

Regrouping in their swimsuits, the campers find themselves at the highest peak of Wawanakwa overlooking shark-infested waters. Recognizing the trope, DJ cuts the first half off with a well-placed "Oh, shit."

FINAL REVIEW

It doesn't feel right to rate one half of a two-parter, so for now this stays un-rated! I will say it's not shaping up to be my favorite by far, if only for Chris. He feels much less.... himself in the first episode. I guess I'm used to his later, more eager sadism.

It was a great way to introduce the concept and characters, though!

Vanessa prefers not to kill, but to go behind their backs to neutralise enemies or knock them out. Her favourite? A good old-fashioned baseball bat! She has two of them, a pink one and a gold one, but any improvised weapon that can stun works too.

When it comes to guns, she's team silent power pistol. Small, discreet and effective, it's undetectable. In game, she first uses Kongou, then Seraph offered by Padre, with a silencer installed. And after PL, Her Majesty silent pistol, a real gem!

And when it's there to eliminate, especially the scavs for whom it shows no mercy, it's SMG! A good machinegun does a great job killing the bastards. She loves the Militech M221 Saratoga SMG, and even have the Fenrir. In my hc, a Maelstromer gave this gun as a gift !

VIRGILE

He's a netrunner, so he doesn't need a weapon to take down enemies. Virgil doesn't like killing, so he prefers to knock out his enemies using hacks rather than killing them for good (even though he works with Valentin, who is quick on the trigger). So he's made his own daemons and hacks to suit his needs, enabling him to neutralise the enemy without violence.

But having a weapon is always useful. As a nomad, he learned to shoot rifles from his grandfather and knows how to use precision rifles, such as the SOR-22, a rifle common in the Free States. But he prefers tech rifles, and has a Militech M-179 Achilles that he takes with him when he works in the Badlands. In game, he has the Widow Maker, and I have hc that Panam gave him after picking it up from Nash (a reconciliation gift).

But a rifle isn't always handy, so he's got a pistol. I hesitated for a long time between a smart and a tech pistol, but I preferred the smart, because he can use smart-targeting more easily. A smart boy can only use a smart gun! In game, he first got a Kang Tao A-22B Chao, and now I'm waiting until I get to Dogtown to give him a nice Tusnami Kappa whose design I think is too cool, and especially the Crimestopper iconic because he has a chance of uploading Cripple Movment quickhack + CRIT damage!

Vanessa a moral compass on a case-by-case basis Lying: not a big deal, if it's not malicious or to protect someone. Everyone lies a little, don't they? On the other hand, she doesn't lie to her family. At worst, she avoids the question! Stealing : from the corpo? that's good, you've got to rip those scumbags off. For her, it would just be a way of spreading the wealth more evenly. Robbing the bastards too, that's fine. The rest is morally questionable. Killing: scavs, shitty corpos, assholes … some people deserve to die, she doesn't even think about it. After that, she's against wanton murder and attacking innocent people. She would never accept a contract to kill a decent person.

VIRGILE

Virgile is very strict about the way he believes Lying: he hates people lying to him, and prefers a hurtful truth to a lie. Does he lie? Of course, but it's mostly to hide something about himself, or silly lies where he quickly gets caught out because he's such a bad liar. But in general, he's honest. Stealing: apart from data on the net, he doesn't steal. Killing: He hates killing, it repulses him. He has fewer scruples when it comes to scavs or raffens, but he rarely kills anyone unless forced to by the situation.

i think if the penguins miss the playoffs, he's absolutely out and they don't let him run the draft—especially if any of these guys he could have gotten (niederriter, chychrun, domi, bjugstad, and no i'm not googling if i'm misspelling any of these names and if i see you calling me a bitch about it i'm blocking you immediately) end up being impactful in the postseason. there's no way you waste one of the last years of sidney crosby's career by not even making the playoffs, in large part because you whiffed the trade deadline that badly.

he may be out anyway. if i were john henry, here are the reasons i would present to him in his exit interview:

you failed to provide us with a written plan for the direction of the team when asked, and did not execute successfully on the plan you claimed was in your head

your management of a franchise icon over the summer was a black mark on our organization's reputation, which impacts our ability to sign premium free agents in the future

your pro scouting abilities have proven to be suspect based on your free agent signings in summer 2022

instead of taking necessary moves to correct those errors in a timely fashion, you waited until the 11th hour to do anything, and you were only partly successful

because you waited so long to attempt to correct your mistakes, along with your unwillingness to fully commit to providing your superstars with a support staff to help them win, you missed out on trade targets that would have not only helped this season (which may as well be a wash), but also for the remaining years of the crosby-malkin era because they're young and cost-controlled

in addition to this, your unnecessary hesitation to make any moves has hampered your ability to field a full roster. the penguins are unable to carry 23 players on the active roster, and it's entirely because of signings and trades you've made

during the summer 2022 free agent fumbles, you failed to address a very obvious and glaring weakness on the team: goaltending, which has been (rightly!) held up as the excuse for failing to progress beyond the first round for the past two years

you are not working with your hall of fame coach to get him what he needs to execute his vision, a vision that the most important people to the organization (sid and geno) are fully bought into

i mean there are more. but that's just what i came up with off the top of my head just now. if i sat and thought about it for longer i'm sure we could have a solid 20 reasons, haha.

as far as getting it together over the summer...yes, things can be fixed, but it will be costly. unloading bad contracts is 100% doable, but it will require draft picks attached, so you're essentially paying twice if it's a player you traded for, and you end up wasting those precious draft picks you tried to hoard anyway.

it will take a young, smart, aggressive GM who's totally bought into analytics and is willing to align his own vision for a team with that of the coach, and isn't scared of spending the draft capital required to fix the team's problems.

there is absolutely no reason to be stingy with picks and very young prospects right now. the only goal should and MUST be winning with sid and geno. it is ridiculous to try and restock the farm now. the penguins are going to be very, very bad for a while once the big three retire, nothing done right now is going to change that or accelerate the rebuild, so you may as well put your honest best effort into going for it, REALLY going for it, every year until they're done. otherwise what's the point of keeping them at all?

of course, all of this depends on if fenway sports group gives enough of a shit about the success of this team beyond its profits to actually do something. jury is still out on that.

Elvis & Austin!Elvis Ask Game

I was tagged by the beautiful @lindszeppelin to participate in this super fun ask game! Yay! It’s taken me a hot minute to get this post out because I haven't been super active on Tumblr as of late and for that, I’m dearly sorry. 

These questions were originally coined by @aconflagrationofmyown​ and here is the original post for anyone that wants to try it :)

When and what was your first exposure to Elvis Presley? 

I can’t say there’s a definite moment where I was exposed to him. I had always known of him, but only the gravely misconstrued version. I knew that he wore sparkly flared jumpsuits, that a bunch of people impersonate him to this day, and that he sang Can’t Help Falling in Love. Honestly, I didn't know him at all, not like I do now, at least 

And what was your first impression? 

I didn't have much of an impression. I gleamed off of the impersonators saying “thank you, thank you very much” and thought it was sort of silly. I didn't understand the outfits or sideburns at all lol. 

Lace shirts or jumpsuits? 

NOW LISTEN... that is a difficult question to answer because the lace shirt and the jumpsuit are two completely different eras of EP. I have to say the lace shirt because every picture that comes to my mind is of him when he was young, smiley, and unrefined. I associate it with super happy EP so I choose that, but don't mistake me, y'all. I love me some jumpsuit Elvis. 

You can steal one of Elvis/Austin’s outfits, whats it going to be? 

Dude.... I don't even know. Okay, off the top of my head I thought of the all black attire Austin!Elvis wore during the Trouble performance. I feel like I could definitely rock that outfit with the red tie and some dark, smoky makeup. If we are going all out though, I wouldn’t mind wearing the iconic double leather of the 68 comeback special. 

C’mon, we know you’ve been watching/reading old interviews and random footage of the man, so what’s your favorite random Elvis quote?

This whole moment right here. First time I heard it, I laughed so hard that there were tears coming from my eyes. It’s the silliest joke, but I love it with all my heart. Plus, I think that EP’s answer was a really smart way to deflect the question (whether or not that was his intention)

Did you find Austin Butler’s lips distracting despite them being in a movie about the King of plush upper lips? (Be honest now)  

Yes, absolutely his lips are distracting. I don’t consciously watch them but some scenes you can’t help but admire the beauty that is Austin Butler. He’s a handsome man, indeed. 

What’s an aspect of Elvis’ character you wish more people appreciated?

The serious side of Elvis. I think that he is misconstrued as being a flamboyant sex symbol (which in many cases he was) that his actual personality gets lost in translation. I’ve read that he was reserved and loved having deep, intellectual conversations with others. Not to mention I have seen people report the well hidden loneliness that permeated him often. I think it’s sometimes forgotten that he’s human like the rest of us... and that saddens me. Also, his extremely giving heart for charity. 

You meet Col. Tom Parker for the first time, forewarned with the knowledge of what a scumbag he is, what do you do?:  A. nothing, you’re a coward who doesn’t care about abused golden-hearted men B. you give the Colonel a stern telling off C. you encourage Elvis to leave him and break the contract E. you slap a legal document against that fat suit and declare “Mrs. Claus is bringing you a lawsuit” F. you waste no time with formalities, it’s a letter opener to the juggler for that piece of trash

These answers are hilarious! I would choose C. I’d try to use my 5 years of therapy to explain to EP that he’s being manipulated by a narcissist and that his golden, giving heart needs to be rid of parasitic relationships. 

What was your favorite aspect/scene from the Elvis 2022 movie?

Other than the whole movie? Lols. I love a lot of scenes. The beginning where they show young Elvis’s spiritual awakening through the tent revival is my favorite. That scene is referenced throughout the movie, like it grounds EP to go back to his roots. The concept of flyin’ away is this beautifully heartbreaking dream and I both connect to and sympathize with. Plus, I’m a Christian so seeing little Elvis experience the Holy Spirit always gives me chills. 

You can choose only one song or piece of media to convince someone to become an Elvis fan, what is it going to be?

This is really difficult to answer because I feel like EP is misrepresented so much. I’d probably start with his music, ask what the person likes and play something of his along those lines. Then, I'd show some concert clips of him being silly and human. 

How many children would you give Elvis Presley from your own -or theoretical- womb? (listen to the beast in ya, your feminism won’t serve you here)

I’m willing to give two or three. I have medical issues that limit me from popping out a ton of little humans so that’s my limit lols. 

Where are you hanging out with EP, his bedroom with the teddy bears, Club Handy, his private jet or Graceland?

I’m a wicked introvert so probably Graceland. I love tranquil time alone spent reading and cuddling. I'd love to just talk to him, or sit in silence while holding one another. (I'm so sappy omg). For fun though? Club Handy. I’d love to have a dirty dancing moment there. 

What is the peak Elvis era? warning, this says an awful lot about you…

All eras are peak Elvis era, let’s be real. But I have a mad crush on 60s Elvis. The early 60s all the way to the 68 comeback special and to 1970 is just... a lot to wrap my mind around. 

How long have you been an Austin Butler fan (be honest now, God is watching)

I wasn’t a fan, more of an admirer. I thought he was really cute in Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure and probably had a crush before that from his Disney appearances.  

What kind of Elvis chick are you? -a 1950’s prospective wife material that he’s already sampled, a 1960’s filmset fling or a Vegas torrid backstage affair?

I don't want to be anybody’s fling or affair, even the famed Elvis Presley himself. At the same time, I don’t want to be someone he’s merely sampled. However, if we are totally flinging my standards out the window, filmset fling because I feel it’d last longer than a Vegas affair.

Is Austin Butler an honorary southerner now? Answer options: A. hell no, California can keep his sweet cheeks. B. hell yes, he’s practically been possessed by the soul of the King of the South  

Now listen, as a southerner I deeply approve of the respectful way that Austin portrayed the nuances of a southern accent. He’s welcome anytime to my part of the south!!  

Pick your poison in the fan-fiction realm: angst, fluff, smut, fluffy smut, angsty fluff, angsty smut?…or is reading about Elvis Presley an acknowledged health hazard?

I gravitate toward plain fluff and angsty fluff.

If he wifed me up, swallow. I will not elaborate. 

Would Gladys approve of you? Take your above answer into consideration

I sure hope she would! I know she and EP had a close bond so I think I'd be more concerned with not wanting her to feel like I’m taking her son away from her. I’d try to find a balance between respect, boundaries, and love/care. I’d definitely bake her some really good food and sweets.  

Which of Elvis’ cars is your favorite?

I’m not well versed with his car collection so I’m afraid the default answer would be the pink Cadillac. However, as I’m scoping out pictures, I really like the Continental Mark II and the Stutz Blackhawk III (that one is so sexy omg).

What are your odds for besting this man at karate?

None. I don’t know any martial arts. That man would chop me in half in zero seconds flat (and he’s welcome to).

If you could meet Elvis and have enough composure to tell him something, what would it be?

I’d tell him that what he did, has done, and will do will last for generations. It’s impactful, he is impactful. I’d also tell him he’s not alone in his loneliness and that I’m sorry for all the loss he’s been through.

What’s a hobby or pastime of yours you wish you could share with Elvis/Austin!Elvis

Reading!! I’d love to curl up next to him and read a book together. Or, to have EP read to me as I nurse a tea and close my eyes to listen to his voice (bye I’m going to make this a fic)

STOP!! I cannot choose in good conscience because I haven’t heard an Elvis song I don’t love, granted I’m fairly new to being a fan of his. I’ll list the top three that I’ve been listening to lately:

If you could spare him one tragedy what would it be?

I’m gonna join the bandwagon of everyone else here and say the death of Gladys. I think he would’ve been less burdened and emotionally damaged.

Is there a modern artist that sorta scratches for you the itch that Elvis’ absence leaves?

No one can fill his shoes. He’s so unique and unlike anyone else. However, I am a fan of many kpop groups and when I see my favs in concert, I felt the same thrill that I felt when watching Elvis 2022 and real life Elvis content.

How did you react at the end of the movie when In the Ghetto started to play A. I got up and fixed a snack because I have no soul, B. I left feeling alarmingly horny, C. I was impressed but didn’t realize how affected I was until days later when it was still with me D. I cried buckets they had to bring in a mop E. I may have appeared emotionless but in fact my soul was leaving my body and I don’t think it’s returned quite yet

I’m a mix of C nd E. I was so shocked and dazed from the movie that I couldn’t really process anything. I felt a heaviness in my heart from that ending for the following 3 days and couldn’t think of anything else, still can’t and it’s been like over a month. I’m in this for life #inachokeholdforelvis
