See how you can tweak your dye processes to ensure you get the brightest, truest reds with this amazing fungi. Collectively called the "red Corts", these mushrooms are able to produce a range of warm tones - from deep oranges through to cold dark reds. Whether you're ecoprinting fabric, or looking for ways to make colours from sustainable ecological sources, this builds on a previous video on dyeing with Cortinarius smithii. This time we cover additional tips and tricks on pH and how mordants and using different components of the mushrooms can shift your colours, sometimes in ways you aren't expecting.

This medium sized mushrooms packs a powerful dye punch and is highest valued by many in the natural dye community. Like all things we forage for in nature, please don't harvest more than the population can stand and always leave some mushrooms to make more fungi.

A giant thank you to Arion the Wanderer for the use of many photos in this video (including the mushroom images in the video thumbnail) and also to Alissa Allen (mycopigments.com) for introducing me to this mushroom during one of her workshops.

Please never cook using any of your dye equipment and always store your plants, lichens and mushrooms safely.

Lobonema smithii, today’s jelly, is commonly known as the white jellyfish - a name that the photos of the day perhaps do not make very obvious…
