The whole job was a setup, and damn it all Xadai realized it too late when he stumbled into the carefully laid trap. It was a good fight, he’d been outnumbered seven to one, and still managed to come out on top…

Just barely. Maybe they’d even succeed given enough time. He held a hand over a deep wound in his side, gritting his teeth as his vision swam. Smart of them to poison their weapons. Maybe it’ll do him in yet.

That was his thought as he staggered and collapsed in the middle of the road. Coerthas snow fell around him, and maybe he’d freeze to death before the poison claimed him.

What did it matter? He was dead either way. So he made no effort to move, even as he thought he caught the sound of rushed footsteps crunching in the snow. It didn’t matter. His eyes closed, his body burned with fever and froze from the snow.

It was a fitting hell for someone like him.

The guard were hard-pressed to maintain order some days and with snow driving some of the already desperate denizens of the Brume to greater acts of lawlessness, the visiting feline had been roped into offering his aid. Since he was probably worth a dozen of the guard on his own, he hadn't been partnered with anyone.

So when he was dispatched to an outbreak of violence it was alone that he jogged through the snow - moving at pace as much to reach his destination sooner as it was to combat the bitter cold that chilled his ears something terrible.

It was likely nothing compared to what the fallen figure was suffering though, when the vessel laid eyes on the body laying on the road and gradually being hidden by clean, white snow. Even the crimson stain of blood was disappearing beneath the fresh blanket that continued to fall steadily around them.

"Xadai??" he blurted as he made it close enough to actually identify the large Au Ra's figure. He closed the remaining distance at a run and skidded to his knees in the snow beside the man, brushing some of the snow from Xadai's body to better see his condition. Blood, crystallised in the snow, scattered as he brushed it away.

"Gods," he muttered, ears flattened into his hair. "The hells have you managed to get yourself into."

Rhetorical question, more to fill the stifling silence perpetuated by the thickening snow than out of any expectation of an answer.

A quick press of a cold hand to Xadai's face had him cursing colourfully and lamenting the fact that he had less time than he would have liked to get the Au Ra the help he needed.

With little other choice though, and with Xadai's size making it more awkward and arduous than it would otherwise have been, Maru shifted the Au Ra into a better position and then lifted him into a carry.

The infirmary felt like a long way off.

I just finished up writing chapter 23 of Heart on the Table last night! So for anyone that reads that, have fun reading the last line of the chapter before it's even posted!

While chatting with @smol-dargon on discord, I mentioned wanting Mac and cheese for lunch and was encouraged to post about these headcanons regarding how MediEvil characters want their Mac and cheese.

Either Zarok would insist on the fanciest Mac and cheese you can think of — I’m talking noodles being cavatappi pasta with aged cheddar and Gruyère, toasted and seasoned breadcrumbs, bits of lobster and bacon, and it has to be served on a ramekin and topped with bits of parsley or he won’t eat it, or he’s the kind of guy that would insist on an unholy pairing of Mac and cheese with raisins and brussels sprouts

Dan is a simple man, Kraft Mac and cheese works just fine but he forgets to add the water and now King Peregrin’s castle is on fire.

That’s it, add more to your leisure.

I feel it fits him well too. Green dragons are sly and have a silver tongue. They are good swimmers. And also they love to horde living beings, which...actually fits Zecharias very well since he's a yandere. :>

How does he express that he is comfortable with someone? How does he express he is uncomfortable? Is he hot or cold all the time? Does he know how to flirt and how does he do it?

As for showing he’s comfortable… He’s…kind of like a feral cat tbh. The more he eases around someone, the more he’ll gravitate to them. It’s subtle, but he’ll just gradually become less tense, a little more snarky (revealing he does have a sense of humor gasp), “more tolerant” of their “less appealing” behaviors (if they have a “bad sense of humor”, that sort of thing). It’s a pretty slow process, usually, but with people he’s comfortable with, like, really comfortable with, he’ll actually relax around them. Isn’t perpetually scowling, might even crack a non sarcastic joke now and then, takes them at their word (this is a big deal considering how suspicious his is of others outside of his immediate circle). He basically just…like, relaxes around them. Which…is kind of sad now that I’m actually typing it lmao

As for uncomfortable, there’s actually very little change in his behavior since he’s pretty much always at least a little uncomfortable when around anyone that isn’t part of his immediate circle, but if they’re especially grating him, he basically just looks increasingly pissed off. Glaring, tapping his foot slowly, grinding his teeth. Even if he’s not angry, even if he’s anxious, those tells remain predominantly the same.

He is essentially a sentient space heater. On top of naturally having a high metabolism, I like to hc higher stats usually increase general body temperature, and his stats are pretty high, so Edge is just. A heating element unto himself. Great in the winter (and living in Snowdin), sucks in the summer (or traversing Hotland). It’s a good thing skeletons can’t get heat stroke!

Girl help he can’t swim /j but seriously absolutely not this man does NOT know how to flirt and even if he wanted to (he doesn’t) he’d be like. SO bad at it. He’s just like regular UT Papyrus but with way more face value self worth issues so he canNOT cope with Situations and Interactions outside of his standard stuff. And stuff involving Emotions falls very, very, very far outside of his standard stuff. He’s also super demi (both romantic and sexual) so like. He literally doesn’t understand that stuff, it’s so difficult for him to grasp and just. Ugh. It’s so many levels of girl help he can’t swim. On the plus side, it’s very cute when he does realize he’s experiencing An Emotion, because he gets very blushy and nervous. Please never forget he is a Papyrus and he will jump out of a window to escape a situation.

What are his thoughts on overly friendly horses? The ones that hang their head over your shoulder in hopes of getting a treat or follow you like a shadow because they're curious about what you're doing?

i cannot speak from experience unfortunately because something abt horses i just. do not Enjoy they awake a primal fear in my soul and Heart but i think he’d enjoy that. i feel as if he’s liek an Animal Magnet anywhere he goes and rlly isn’t scared of any Creatures that don’t pose an imminent threat to him. he would make friends w a crab if u left them alone for like 5 mins
