Chapter 92: No one sleeps at the Schariac-Kaslana household

In the comments of Chapter 92, I added my own snippet of Emm's snippet. It’s reposted here, below.

"Cece, I love you," Siegfried said suddenly, getting a blink from Cecelia as she bound his wound.

He continued, "And I fell in love with you all over again, in that illusion Sirin stuck us in. During the war. It confused me. 'I love my wife, look at her caring for our daughters!' Right?"

Cecelia slowly tied down the final bandage. She turned to look back towards Sirin's room where said daughters slept for a long moment, then turned back to her husband. "What confused you, Siggy?"

"The 'again' part of that feeling," Siegfried said, meeting her eyes. "Everything else about the illusion made a hazy amount of sense. I didn't, couldn't question it. But... somehow..." He shook his head, eyes going distant for nearly a minute.

"...I knew what I felt. I'd fallen in love with you. Gone to absolutely insane lengths to find and see you again, gotten permission from the Overseer of Creepy--"

"Siggy!" Cecelia gasped in amused dismay.

"--To marry you! And we did, and had a beautiful little girl together," Siegfried kept on without missing a beat. "But in that illusion, the only thing I was sure of was that all my love for you was suddenly so much more than ever before."

Cecelia was blushing, she could feel it. But more than that, she realized she badly wanted to know where her husband was wandering with these thoughts. So she set herself down beside Siegfried in the broken remains of the room, and leaned into him gently.

Siegfried went on. "What was it, then? What had changed from our wonderful marriage and daughter... that made me love you so much more?" His gaze gained focus, and turned.

Cecelia's breath caught, as she realized where he was looking. No. To whom he was looking.

"So when Welt popped up like a ghost to try and shake me awake... I should have been surprised." Siegfried took a long, slow breath, careful of his wound. Cecelia pointedly ignored the sucking sound of air moving where it shouldn't.

"But I wasn't. It finally made sense." Siegfried's bright blue eyes turned to hold Cecelia in their intense gaze. "Everyone else looked at the Second Herrscher as 'monster'. 'Destroyer'. Even me. Especially me." A beat. "But you? Inside the illusion, you offered that girl affection, care, and trust. And she chose to reciprocate it."

Siegfried took another slow breath, lifting his arm to reach over her shoulders and pull her a little closer. Their faces almost touched. Their gazes held only each other.

"You looked at the Second Herrscher and saw, 'that is a little girl who just wants the pain to stop.'"

Cecelia forgot her own breath for a moment. Just long enough for Siegfried to finish.

"You are my hero. You are Sirin's hero. You are, the greatest hero of this age, and nothing will change that. Ever."

"So yeah. I love you, Cecelia."

I just had a fun thought for Snippets.

When/if the puppets takes Bronya's Herrscher powers, I should have her tap into that Silver Wolf of the Urals side. Just let her loose on the unexpecting puppets.

Its something so rarely brought up, but Bronya was an urban legend at the age of 13 with just as many high ranking confirmed kills. She took down warlords since she was literally pre-teen. Add on Valkyrie training and even without Herrscher powers she'd be a threat.

Its snapping back to me, and this turned into kinda rambling, but this is why I had Bronya hold her own for a short while against the Herrscher of Ice. Because combat has been a part of nearly Bronya's entire life.

The more I think about it the more I want to have the puppets take her Herrscher powers and she'll be just like "okay then" and proceed to continue fighting them even as they turn the Reason power on her.

(Reminder that in Snippets, Bronya gets the Core of Reason at around ~chapter 20 equivelant in game time. She hasn't had it for that long)

I dont usually do this since I tend to never really lock in the chapter's title. Buuut Im already feeling pretty attached to chapter 108's title.

And then I remembered that chapter 93 is gonna be a sequel to chapter 32, and I could do something with that

I think that Snippets has its first plothole.

I just got reminded that Sirin has the Gem of Desire (Wind) in Snippets.

I had completely forgotten about that. I did not remember that she had it at all.

Fuuuuuuuck.

I think I can still justify her state in the Theater of Dominance - the Gem of Desire isnt "hers" like the Core of the Void is, and she would use the Void Core over the Wind Core in the Theater. But I'm going to have to scrap my other idea for the Gem of Desire now.
