Chilly living would have made the anime 10 times better in this essay i will-
(btw anime!dedede is saying” Oh wow ur about to die from no ice? Dam if only there were books with spells to help with that.” and thats how Chilly is able to surivive but at the cost of having to be Dedede’s lacky sometimes. Usually to kill a monster that he ordered that went rogue but Chilly isnt afraid to give the king an ice shock if hes going to mess with kirby unnecessarily)

maybe he'd finally listen if his beak was frozen shut.
felt like drawing some angsty weird route stuff
#weird route#deltarune#berdly#noelle#i didn't even realize that the ice was over his beak specifically until i was done with the drawing#and then i came up with that caption#i still think that there's really something to the fact that berdly specifically is the guy who gets the boss fight that ends in snowgrave#iirc spamton neo just got iceshocked#and noelle could just try to convince herself that all of the darkners she was made to kill were all just characters in her dream#even though they were real she doesn't have any tangible evidence of that#but berdly is a 'real person'#and he's not waking up...#but aside from that though#he's the obnoxious know-it-all who doesn't listen. he's not a very good friend#if you wanted to#you could read the snowgrave scene as noelle getting some catharsis by destroying this symbol of her trouble speaking up-#this person who's supposedly her friend but who just bosses her around and never listens to her. who hardly seems to know her at all#at least not nearly as well as kris does#he's the one who tells people how noelle feels instead of noelle speaking for herself#you kind of want to see noelle kick his ass right? and i guess she kind of does with the shaking him up bit in the normal route#so on paper it almost feels like her defeating him would be awesome#overcoming this symbol of all the shit that keeps her down#but then you remember that berdly isn't a symbol. he's a teenage monster boy#yeah he's a bad friend... but do you think he's like that deliberately?#maybe he's just awful at reading people#he was trying to stop you from harming noelle#quite a lot of what he does in chapter 2 is partially based around doing what he thinks noelle wants- but of course he's always wrong#because he's not good at listening and picking up on how she feels#and she sure as hell isn't going to just speak her mind#but it's pretty clear he care about her immensely. and not just for selfish reasons

It sucks how downplayed Noelle and Berdly's friendship is despite how much they care about each other (it's more present in Berdly's dialogue but everyone ignores his actual character and instead makes him an incel but that's a topic for another day).
Like their relationship is flawed obviously, but so is like every other UTDR relationship, they all have their ups and downs but ultimately they care about each other, Noelle and Berdly are no exception.
Like in Snowgrave, Berdly literally DIES trying to save Noelle. He gets straight up murdered. If he didn't care about her don't you think he would just bolt the moment he felt he was in danger? But instead he immediately noticed that something was up with Noelle and jumps into a fight. During said fight, if you glare at Berdly, his defense drops because he's SCARED OF YOU. He's not doing this because he thinks he'll win, he's doing it because he HAS TO.
And even when they're not in a life-or-death situation, he still cares about her a lot. When you go to the entrance to queen's mansion, queen threatens to drop Berdly in the acid, which makes Noelle agree to go to her side again. Then Berdly shows up, Queen captures Noelle and threatens to turn her face into a robot one, and Berdly says "but you said you wouldn't do that if I..."
Meaning queen had Berdly and Noelle under her thumb because she was using them as bargaining chips against each other!!!!!
AND, when Berdly initially shows up at the mansion, he's talking as usual about how he was looking EVERYWHERE for queen, but then he pauses, and says "Oh, Noelle. Are you okay? You look a little funny." AGAIN, he IMMEDIATELY NOTICES WHATS WRONG WITH HER
I have class in like 5 minutes so RANT OVER
PLAY DELTARUNE

i think my favorite part of snowgrave is when noelle says she can still hear kris's voice even when they're down during the berdly fight. nothing drives home that it's not kris giving the commands, just you, quite like this little moment.

some point i'd image probably by jax out of annoyance and wanting to go straight to the boss kinda drags everyone down the wrong path into a sort of lake area where abstractions lay.
in this au they're not just person but a combination of souls that died in the dark world too long and are unable to be fixed, instead holding eachother together as an amalgamation.
due to this, fighting it is futile and will only end up adding others to it's collection, something they'd eventually become aware of in battle
snowgrave berdly battle music keeps pinging in my mind, thatll probably play for this. a sort of 'theres something wrong' type of theme fits this
probably add more late tomorrow, feeling eepy rn

OK but emptygrave Noelle never reaching that point of no return that she normally does, never leaving the party, never been taken to safety by Queen and giving Spamton the chance to take over would allow for a lot of things.
Susie meeting Noelle in the Cyber World streets and being horrified by what's happening. The question is if denial or anger wins out first.
Queen actually trying to save some of her subjects (im sure the acid she uses for her drink barrier thing could work elsewhere, and failing that possessed kris seems to lack the ability to... open most doors????)
Berdly piloting the Giga Queen robot (making a far harder fight bc you know he played a lot of Punch Out)
Sure, Spamton gets the NEO suit, but I'm not sure he would have the time to do much else with it. But, with the fact it's Spamton (wanting to make a name for himself again) and the body Mettaton would have used (a desire to perform, to act still inbuilt), I can see him jumping into the centre of whatever big emotional scene is happening at the end of the animatic.
Noelle would get stronger. So much stronger.
The music trio get to do stuff! Mayhe supporting the evacuation efforts (after they all reconvene), maybe trying to defeat Kris and Noelle (emphasis on trying) or maybe something else entirely different.
With everyone getting cold by the end of the animatic, I can only imagine how Noelle feels.
Snowgrave is still an option, still ready to fire at any moment. And, should it go off, I can't imagine the snow getting slower.
Yeah I'm just spitting ideas because I'm tired but hopefully something here is interesting
oh these all sound so fun :0c

Came to a haunting realization last night
I watched my sibling do a ddlc playthrough once. I was spoiled on the main twist of "it's a horror game" but didn't know much about the game aside from "people die, Monika has meta knowledge, Monika can delete people". I eagerly anticipated the horrors the whole time.
I've run through the Jevil fight so many times that I almost consider it easy now, and many of my irl friends find it frightening. Both pacifist and violent versions of the fight, and assuming all goes well I can finish pacifist before his final chaos attack.
I've watched a full playthrough of the Snowgrave run and was disturbed but intrigued. I started my first snowgrave run yesterday to show the run to some friends (ended off right before Berdly). I barely felt a thing actually doing it myself.
I'm good at googling how to do things and I'm comfortable with screwing around with game files in my computer.
Guys I think I may actually have the guts to do an Undertale genocide run

Oh no Kenzie is spewing his thoughts.....
Y'know, I never really understood the hate towards player/SOUL in delta rune. They didn't ask to be attached to Kris. Hell, they didn't even really have a say on who they wanted to be attached to as their vessel was tossed into the void.
Kris probably doesn't even hate the player as much as the fandom portrays them to. They probably don't like being controlled, yes, but if that was truly the case, then why does Kris always put SOUL back after tearing them out?
If Kris has such an ability to where they can remove SOUL and move freely without input, why put them back after doing what they wanted for a brief moment of time? It just doesn't make sense to me, it feels like Kris just wants a moment of being out of SOUL's input. and it makes me think Kris and SOUL have a more...venom relationship than anything else. (Kind of,,,)
Why would Kris make a dark fountain in there house if they didn't want SOUL to control them? Clearly, they don't mind to some degree, cuz their life has been so much more exciting ever since SOUL appeared. SOUL even made them friends, which Kris is probably grateful for. Cuz it's clear that Kris is seen as the weird kid due to them being the only human in a town filled with monsters, SOUL made them make friends with a monster they were afraid of (Susie) and even made them a hero in some way (in the darkworld at least.) They are no longer a 'nobody' because of SOUL.
Kris only REALLY becomes the victim in the snowgrave route. There, SOUL is making them do things they don't want to do. Such as killing enemy's, harming Noelle mentally and even physically, and worst of all, literally MURDERING Berdly; who is indeed one of their friends despite their ongoing rivalry. This is where the player hate is justified, they're torturing other characters through their host, Kris, just to see what would happen. That's where you could view the player as evil as they are intentionally making Kris' friends suffer, along with Kris themself. This is where I can see Kris not liking, or even downright hating the player, and wanting to be out of their control permanently.
But it any other route, like the pacifist or normal route, I just don't think it makes sense for Kris to hate SOUL/player. Kris isn't a victim in those routes, they're just the host, the puppet they obviously don't mind being (and, I know after the spamton neo fight, Kris gets uneasy and scared about being a puppet for player, and while yes, their fear is rightly justified considering what happened to spamton. I just don't see them taking it into too much consideration after being comforted by Susie and Ralsei, especially if the player had been peaceful and nonviolent thus far.)
Most others say that player makes Kris do things they don't want to. Which is...just...not true. In snowgrave, yes, player makes Kris do things they do not want to do, but in a normal or pacifist route that is just not true. I'm going to take hugging Ralsei for example. It's implied that the choices given to the player are options that Kris would most likely do or say anyway, but it's player who makes the final decision for them. So, Kris WOULD hug Ralsei, or do any of the things given in the tunnel of love scenes, but player is the one who decides which actions are final, but all the actions and words are implied to be what Kris would do or say anyway without players direct input. Does that....make sense? I feel like I'm overexplaining but I really want to get my point across.
I'm gonna stop here, cuz I don't want to continue rambling or want this post to get too long. But in short, Kris is not the victim, they only become one in snowgrave. They probably don't even want player to leave now since they think they'll become a 'nobody' again without their input. player isn't making Kris do anything they don't want to (Unless, it's snowgrave, as I said many times now lol.) Kris and player probably don't have the BEST relationship, obvs, but they definitely don't hate each other or want the other gone.
But, that's just my thoughts, tell me what you think, if you made it thus far that is ^w^

The meaning of ten
In the save files menu, before chapter 1 completion, Gaster says "VERY INTERESTING" if we threaten to delete a save file 10 times. In the code, this is the THREAT variable.
Similarly, in the fight against Birdly in the Snowgrave route, we can use the ACT option "Wake" to increase Noelle's magic by 3, and this up to 10 times. In both cases, the limit is 10. But why?
Well, funny coincidence, in Japanese, the kanji for heaven is pronounced "ten".
Tumblr media
Maybe you've already seen it, it's engraved on the golden Berdly statue.
So in a way, you could say... the sky’s the limit.

dude imagine if the weird route just ended at the berdly fight. like if you tell noelle to use snowgrave, it just kills both you and berdly and then after a cutscene you get the game over screen. and the only way to actually progress through the game is to abandon the route. like imagine if it was just this one weird segment where for some reason you can do all this fucked up stuff, and it all stays there, and there's nothing else like it in the game

a thing I think about a lot in like. the background. is how much deltarune doesn't want you to do snowgrave. like it feels like way more than just like writing convenience; in undertale, even if you fail no mercy, things get distinctly worse results-wise the further on the path you got. but snowgrave failures get like... almost forgotten. almost set aside. noelle acts like she's waking up from a dream and moves on, maybe coming up with some quick justification. berdly assumes you're messing with him. a little jingle plays. the game resumes like nothing ever happened (minus the fairly soft neutral route consequences).
and ofc it's Hard to do snowgrave! the conditions are so weird and obscure that like. it's so easy to mess up. if you fight the wrong way, if you don't go out of your way to a dumpster, if you don't have the ring... no matter how much violence you're doing, if you're doing it out of step w this weird process, you get shunted back to normalcy
it adds to the like creepypasta feeling people have talked abt (how many video game urban legends have all these weirdly specific steps that lock you out if you're not careful) but like... also... it feels like the dark world is, like, fighting you. trying to get things back on the rails. there's a story that it wants told of heroism and success, and all the small failures of that get pushed under the rug as soon as it can manage. the story wants to move on. it doesn't care if that means ignoring a lot of deaths and violence; it wants Noelle to reconcile w Queen, to realize her strength, to move forward, no matter what she's like. done.
it's only when something you do affects the light world that there's really no turning back.

Does Berdly really matter ?
I hate to get all e m o here
But you ever wonder if anyone in deltarune
T r u l y cares for Berdly …?
Yeah like there are moments were they gave him attention (the most prominent being when Susie tells Berdly that he doesn’t need to keep his smart facade on all the time)
As Naive Berdly can be, I don’t always think a Berdly just cares for Noelle because he has a crush on her, it’s just that Noelle is kinda all he had at the moment before chapter.2 started .
Noelle helping him study might also be another reason .
I’m pretty sure everyone just tosses Berdly away as a weirdo or smart ass or both.
What I find funny about this is that thinking about it now (and also seeing things other people point out)
Berdly just sorta goes unnoticed and the thing is that he cares a lot for certain things, Especially Noelle even if she doesn’t feel affection for him and the snowgrave route proves this point greatly, Berdly does care for Noelle and immediately knows something is wrong the second that he sees Noelle before his ….demise ?
And from my memory he doesn’t try to hurt Noelle either in the battle .
And even outside of that fight, Berdly wants to find Noelle to make sure she is safe and I know that Berdly wants Noelle to be his “Queen and rule over a smartopia” but I really think he means is that he just doesn’t want to be alone and wants s o m e o n e that he knows and cares for to be on his side .
But yet despite these small efforts, Berdly just gets forgotten, left, discarded ….
The world just kinda moves on …..
A simply command from us and the Bird is gone, imagine trying to care so hard, wanting to be just recognized and loved even if you look cringy and embarrassing trying to do so,and then just being killed .
And even then if we aren’t talking about the snow grave route Berdly still gets betrayed by Queen another person he thought that truly cared about him .
I know that Berdly goes on to later have feelings for Susie, but I think that’s more of a honeymoon phase thing going on, Berdly probably just felt so happy that someone eased his social stress of being smart all the time, also maybe at this point (the end of chapter.2) Berdly may have started to realize that maybe Noelle can be on her own just fine, which may be why he wasn’t so hesitant to tell Noelle about his interest for Susie.
I know Berdly doesn’t get it as hard as the other characters, and I’m not trying to play the other characters problems either .
It’s just that Berdly seems to be one I feel bad for some times .
I wrote this purely from memory so it may go into fanon territory.

thinking about spamton and his parallels/connections to the fun gang. again
spam & kris - the obvious puppet motif. also spamton’s very very obvious projection, and how it almost WORKS in snowgrave. (kris calling for friends, nobody came = spamton experiencing the same)
spam & ralsei - his weapon if you fight him is for ralsei. also depending on your theory it could be puppetry as well.
spam & Noelle - more puppet imagery, esp in snowgrave. actually snowgrave as a whole. the thorn ring. even w/o it Noelle could be Seen as a puppet to her mother
spam & berdly - glasses. popsicle. both put themselves on a high pedestal while also hating themselves. over reliance on someone else (the phone guy and noelle respectively) they’re both ignored and seen as annoying in story.
spam & susie/lancer - there isn’t much with these combos, at least that I could think of, but they’re both in the fun gang so I’m listing them anyways

So, I thought of something interesting. (Dark but I guess I do that a lot)
Berdly is a character who has this feeling that he needs to keep up this intelligent image. This thought process holds him back, makes him extremely insecure, and hurts him in more ways than one.
Much like how Noelle's problems hinder her and are the main topic in the weird/snowgrave route.
Now, this is where I go/sound crazy over idea I had for a current hyper fixation (that being deltarune)
What if there was a "weirder route/Thornroute"?
You may ask "What does that even mean?" And I ask the same. I can only give my original thought process. My main Idea is that after freezing Berdly, you go back to Spamton's shop in the trash zone. He has a new item to sell. "ᴘᴏʀᴛᴀʙʟᴇ ʜᴇᴀᴛᴇʀ"
What is the portable heater? The portable heater is an old heating unit from "BIGSHOT Autos!!"
You buy this portable heater and use it on Berdly's frozen body. Leaving him to thaw for 5 irl minutes. (If you leave the room the timer resets)
After saving Berdly, you "apologize" to him. He accepts and barely remembers what happened to him anyways. You have him in your party now. Before you continue, you must backtrack and kill 7-8 enemies that managed to hide when you were freezing your way through the cyber world. How? You use the attack Berdly uses in all 3 of his fights (not including plug Berdly I think) Now you may continue.
And as you make your way into Queen's mansion, you notice it is different. There is an entire new floor exclusive to this route. It is filled to the BRIM with puzzles. Almost every other room has a puzzle in it.
Why?
Because this is how we manipulate Berdly. We force him to complete puzzles, however.. He just can't manage to do it. After waiting one minute and talking to Berdly, where he goes to the middle of the room, breaks down, and lays there defeated. We then solve the puzzle for him (with ease) and tell him to get back up.
After a while, Berdly actually completes the puzzles, faster and faster each time. And as we kill the enemies in Queen's mansion we see Berdly is actually very capable. His physical incompetence is linked to his mental image and intelligence actually being used.
After a while we get to the end, defeating Queen very easily. The only issue is, now we have to fight Berdly.
Why?
Berdly is so powerful and confident that he decides to take a stand against Kris. And so we get the hardest boss fight in the game (so far)
After defeating Berdly, we seal the fountain like usual. (No interruptions like NEO or anything like that)
After everyone wakes up, Noelle is confused and happy that Berdly is alive. But Berdly? Berdly doesn't think about how he's late for his shift with Ms. Boom. Instead, he walks into the main library area and is reading a book. Something technology related, something he wants to do. Something he isn't too dumb for or needs help with. For the first time, He doesn't need anyone but himself.
Anyways!! Hope this isn't such a crack idea or crazy post to start off my tumbler adventure with. Hope you all enjoyed reading ❤
