Bad news: I’m not able to make it to Salt Lake FanX this year. Worse news: I damaged my rotator cuff and can’t draw until I heal 🫠
But good news: I have a SALE happening! I can’t go to the con, so I’ll bring the con here! From now through Oct. 6, everything in my shop is 20% off! (Except for small stickers)
https://imaginativejoy.etsy.com
So what’s available? Basically everything I would’ve brought to FanX: Prints, original art, buttons, stickers, keychains, bookmarks, and my Kingdom Hearts 20th anniversary zine!
Also, this is my formal announcement of my upcoming Merrical mini-zine! It’s a small booklet full of my Fallen Order and Survivor sketches! I should be getting the zines soon, and then I’ll add them to the shop. I was counting on them arriving in time for this sale, but they’re taking a little longer than expected. So once I get them, I’ll most likely extend the sale to make things fair for everyone!
Thank you all for you continued support! Also, if there’s ever anything you see on my tumblr that you’d like as a print, let me know and I can add it to the shop!

There’s a longer post about my current situation but I know TL;DR is real so I’ll do the good thing first: I’ve designed a notepad! I’ll be making the sample/test/prototype this week as I’m waiting for some supplies to get here.
It’s a design that I basically made for myself, as I love wrestling AND penguins. I might do some variants with some other cute animals like kitties or frogs or something. If it comes out the way I hope, I’ll have it listed this weekend.
Tumblr media
I’ve been in a weird headspace. Losing my job and having to move in with my mom was not on the list of things I expected to happen. But that’s life.
I found a job, I’ve been hired to be a “rewind operator” at a printing company. They print a lot of things but mostly it seems to be labels and packaging from small business labels to 100s of thousands of labels for big name brands. It’s a position I have no experience in, a fact I told the managers during my interview. But I also told them why I applied : I thought it sounded interesting, it’s a pretty stable industry, it provides a steady work schedule (no on call shit) and it would be much less emotionally taxing than my previous position. I said “the closest thing to experience I have is that I print and cut my own little craft stuff at home.”
Well, I guess they liked my attitude or my candor or both, cuz they offered me the position. I start next week.
This lack of direction and work and purpose or whatever has been the worst. I’ve felt like I’ve been just floating in jello. I’ve been trying to do some designing but I don’t have my own space to really do it the way I’ve been used to.
Despite that, I’ve created a bunch of new designs for stickers, buttons and keychains. Not just wrestling related either. I’ll be posting those later when I get out of my funk.

I'm still working on photographing everything so it won't be ready for at LEAST a few hours, but my shop should have two very small updates tonight and in 2-3 days from now if you wanna keep an eye out for em :] the update was supposed to happen like a month ago when I ordered the supplies for the last preorder batch, but my supplies got mixed up with somebody else's and had to be remade so it's VERY late (which is okay, it was a simple mistake and the manufacturer I work with was very helpful, and the people who had preordered were all very kind and understanding about the mix up which I appreciate so so SO much). The supplies are finally coming in- my order was shipped in two separate boxes, and the first of two just arrived- so tonight you can expect to find a MASSIVE batch of glow-in-the-dark stickers restocked as soon as I'm finished photographing them, and then in a few days the second half of my supplies should be here where I should have more mini stickers, mini holographic prints, button pins, and glitter keychains restocked too! In addition I'm also adding more mystery bag options and restocking my mini temporary tattoos! All of these items will be included in my current sale (25% off my original artwork/designs/crafts, 10% off everything else through March) thank you for the patience with the delayed update and thank you for checking out my shop :]

Tumblr media
Contributions:
62.3% said they would like to join the team as Page Artists and 60.6% answered that they would rather the project be for profit
Additionally, we received very little interest in including cosplay, so have decided not to include it.
Tumblr media
Merch Expectations:
The most popular merch item was easily charms & keychains. With a 3-way tie between prints, enamel pins, and stickers for second.
Other popular answers included bookmarks, standees, and buttons.
Tumblr media
Favorites & Opinions:
The top 3 most popular CLAMP titles were Cardcaptor Sakura, Tsubasa Chronicle and xxxHolic.
We also asked about canon vs. non-canon pairings and the overwhelming majority would like to include non-canon pairings in the zine.

Mystic Messenger - Their Favorite Gift From MC
-- Zen: Customized Bracelet --
Tumblr media
Zen’s sort of an excessive person so he’s almost always the one giving you gifts. He doesn’t want for much and the stuff he does - like skincare products - you used to buy for him but he eventually convinced you to buy it also for yourself so you could do sheet masks together.
When you do buy gifts for him, it can be a bit difficult. His fans send him a bunch of stuff all the time, like baked goods, or fanart, or neckties. He, of course, is a lot happier when you decide to hand him something, but it’s almost never something he’s ever gotten before.
You have to outsource. So you order a custom-stamped leather bracelet from an indie crafter, something he can wear while rehearsing without worrying about it falling off. On the outside, you have ‘I love you’, and on the inside ‘Zen x MC’.
You give it to him for Valentine’s, his favorite holiday. Zen dedicates the entire day to you and him, and pushes aside the many packages from his fans for later.
You hand him a little box, and he opens it to gasp dramatically at the bracelet, immediately putting it on and exploring the texture of the leather. The lightly-colored tan matches his complexion perfectly.
First, a kiss for you, then its 904709 selfies with him proudly modeling his gift. It goes on his social media to a slight ruckus, because Zen’s never shown off any gifts he’s gotten before.
“My love is so thoughtful!!! Such a beautiful bracelet <3333″
Your name isn’t on the outside to maintain privacy, which proves to be a good idea since that picture is circulated like crazy to mixed reactions.
Zen doesn’t care, this is by far the best gift he’s ever gotten. He hugs you tightly and promises to wear it always.
-- Yoosung: Vinyl Laptop Stickers --
Tumblr media
You like to buy knick-knacks for each other on occasion. Yoosung’s wallet isn’t packing so he can only get you stuff once and a while, and you return the favor with other little things.
And Yoosung is also kinda already surrounded by little trinkets and other stuff he’s collected on his own. Little figurines and toys from vending machines, plastic reward favors from convenience stores, character-themed pens and mugs and phone charms.
It can get a little cluttered. His backpack alone is heavily decorated with pinback buttons and enamel pins, and you know he’s home just by the jingling of the many charms hanging off the zippers.
He’s also of a romantic and ‘cute’ mind, so when you give him practical gifts of a headset holder for his gaming desktop, he’s pleased but ... he prefers it when your gifts aren’t quite so banal.
You eventually do some deep surfing for his upcoming birthday, and find this adorable pack of laptop stickers based off of LOLOL characters. These wouldn’t take up anymore of his space, and he could still carry them with him. So during his birthday dinner, you give it to him over cake and he opens it with a gasp.
“It’s ... oh, it’s so cute! It’s perfect, MC!” He hugs you tightly and immediately has you help him stick them on.
He uses this laptop for school, bringing it with him on most days, so it was the perfect gift to remember you by. Whenever he opens his laptop in the student lounge, or in class, he sees all those bright colors reminding him of his favorite pastime, but also he thinks of you and how much you love each other.
-- Jaehee: Promise Ring --
Tumblr media
You’ve gotten her spice giftboxes for her cooking, a set of cozy loungewear for the both of you, and other cute things she absolutely adores.
But her true favorite? Her engagement ring. A dainty little band that matches yours perfectly. You had proposed to her during a beautiful evening in the park, making her tear up.
“We’re partners, now,” you said. She gave a watery smile and put her ring on proudly.
South Korea wouldn’t allow marriage between you two, so these rings promised more than a union. It promised a brighter future in the face of adversity. It promised progress in the name of love and equality.
Jaehee struggles with societal expectations for a woman like her. This ring was like a shield against the worse thoughts, or an anchor during the more tremulous times. She had chosen to pursue you against the world’s wishes, and it was the best decision she’s ever made.
You and her wear the rings 24/7. To an onlooker, it just seemed like the two of you were separately engaged people. But she knows differently. A proud little secret.
Customers sometimes make comments about them. She’d be ringing them up, and they’ll notice the brilliant white sapphire. “When’s the date?” some have asked. She stammered,  “It’s in the making.” The customer nodded, and wished her a happy union.
She twists the ring around her finger, looking at you wistfully. It will be a happy union. One day!
-- Jumin: Custom-Made Cologne --
Tumblr media
What the heck do you gift the man who could have anything he wanted? Material possessions are never a strain for him. He grew up knowing that any toy, any trinket, any new technology or experience he desired, he would get. He’d ask for ice cream and his father’d purchase an entire chain.
His current self rarely buys indulgences. He’s had years of being fulfilled already. But he definitely buys gifts for you, almost to ridiculous levels. You can see from the diversity of gifts that he has a reach for any product or merchandise, anywhere at any time.
When it came time to get him a gift, you had asked the RFA for advice. And everyone was as clueless as you were. Even Jihyun wasn’t sure; the two of them have almost never exchanged gifts throughout the long years of their friendship, since they knew the other was showered in generosity already.
“You’re gonna have to go custom. Something that can’t be bought,” Zen suggested. So when Jumin announced that he had to go to Birmingham for a business meeting, you came along with him. Which you seldom do, since it’s two days of Jumin being stuck at meetings leaving you to your own devices. But you had a plan.
You looked up a luxury custom perfumery, and with the help of an expert nez you crafted a bottle that would complement him perfectly. On the bottle was a label that said “Love Forever by MC”.
So for his birthday, he accepted his gift with grace and asked where you bought it. “This bottle doesn’t look like its from Clive Christian, is it? Maybe it’s Dior ...”
You explained where you got it, and giggled when his mouth dropped open in surprise. He opened it, sniffed, and his smile grew bigger ‘cause it was so much more special now. It was made under your hand, something that will never be replicated. His and his only.
He loves wearing it to work. It’s so wonderful to be surrounded by a smell that reminds him of you.
-- Saeyoung: Fingerprint Charm --
Tumblr media
He’s a surprisingly complicated man to gift. Like Jumin, he neither lacks nor wants for material needs. Sometimes you’ve given him cute candies or hand-knitted mittens for winter, and meanwhile he’ll give you ridiculously advanced robot cats or he’ll bust out his packing wallet and boom, you’ve got a new Gucci clutch bag.
He kinda knows that he’s hard to gift. So whenever you shyly hand over a six-pack of gag-flavored soda for Christmas or something, he makes a big show of loving it and thanking you with kisses and nuzzles. And he does love it! He’s never had gifts before, not from V or Rika or his co-workers, and definitely not from his mother. Just the thought that someone cared enough to surprise him with trinkets is so heartwarming.
But your anniversary was coming up. It marked the day that Saeyoung’s life turned around a complete 180 for the better. A very important day, one that you couldn’t mark with an exotic beef jerky bouquet or whatever.
One day, while touring a small art fair, you found an indie jeweler who offered custom fingerprint charms. You set up a date to come in and make a mold by pressing your thumb into a block of sand, which was cast into a mold and into which steel was poured.
You gave it to him over a late-night car ride date. He took the charm out of the little bag and stared at it, you explained what it was. “That’s my very own fingerprint right there. I hope it’s something you can carry with you, and remember me by.”
He was silent for a few long seconds. You saw that his hand was shaking. So you reached over and kissed him, he embraced you tightly and said with a wavering voice, “Thank you.” A sniffle, and he was back to his cheery self. You helped him put it on his keychain, next to his car keys.
He loves it dearly. Especially when he fingers the print and feels the groves, imagining your hand.
-- Saeran: Sweater --
Tumblr media
For a long while, Saeran couldn’t live a proper civilian life and spent many days holed up at home, stuck in an anxious and depressive slump. Any venture outside was an ordeal for him. Bit by bit, through therapy and medication, he regained his confidence.
You found this sweater online, and you knew how much he liked wearing sweaters at home. It had this quote on it that the both of you were familiar with. It had been one of the repeated self-forgiving phrases his therapist suggested. Saeran took to that phrase particularly well. He repeats it in his mind when he feels himself on the verge of a breakdown, and it helps de-escalate.
You knew you had to buy it. But keeping it secret from Saeran was kinda a challenge because he likes to tour around your internet history when he’s bored. Not for malicious reasons, he’s just curious and wants to know what kind of stuff you like to re-tweet, or what shops you frequent.
So with Saeyoung’s help, you ordered the sweater under a guise Saeran wouldn’t be able to crack without some effort, and it ended up being a legit surprise when you handed Saeran his gift.
You watched his eyes trace the quote carefully, and at his fingers tracing the screenprinted flowers. He was quiet for a long while, just exploring the sweater thoroughly.
He can’t remember the last time he’s gotten a gift. Maybe it had been never. His eyes teared up.
You hugged him close and stroked his hair like he said he enjoys. It was almost hard for him to accept this from you; he’d spent years trying to approve others under threat of violence, and he’s rarely gotten to experience true generosity.
He wears it at least once a week. It’s his absolute favorite article of clothing forever and ever.
-- Jihyun: Filled Scrapbook --
Tumblr media
For the holidays, Jihyun had given you a beautiful set of jewelry over dinner, along with a framed photo of yourself that he had taken some time before. He rarely decides to spoil you with his riches, but sometimes the occasion calls for it.
How can you match up with his generosity? You knew Jihyun would be charmed with whatever you gave him, but you wanted your gift to mean something.
Once your anniversary began to creep up, you had an idea and began working on your project two weeks in advance - it was going to be a beautiful scrapbook of not just Jihyun’s photos, but also little momentos and decorations on every page, detailing particular moments of your life together up to this point.
You scoured his instagram, printing out copies onto photo paper and cutting and pasting. You folded within old plane, bus, and boat tickets. There were sightseeing brochures from trips abroad, old restaurant menus, stamps from envelopes he had sent you. You wrote messages and captions with multicolored ink.
Extra special were the pages dedicated to when the two of you moved into the new apartment together, and when V was officially recovered from retina surgery, and also the first RFA party he co-hosted with you. Some pages touched on more sad subjects.
Finally, you finished the scrapbook just in time for the anniversary, and it was all worth it to see Jihyun completely blown away by the effort you put into it. He spent several minutes on every page, talking them over with you and reminiscing.
He managed to hold in his tears until the last page, which you kept empty except for a calligraphy script that said, “... and into the beyond.”

FAQ
What is a zine?
A zine is short for magazine or fanzine!
The Kinderzine is a fanzine produced for the game Kindergarten 2 by SmashGames, a non-official non-professional project by some dedicated, talented people in this fandom.
It will feature art and stories, and other content about the game + a small portion of fun fandom content like AUs, non-canon ships, and OCs. It will not be spoiler-free.
Overall, it functions mostly as an art book with some stories mixed in.
Will this be free or will I have to buy this zine?
It's completely free! There will be no money earned from this project in any way, and the link will be publicly posted on the intended release date for no cost at all.
What will contributors get out of this?
The satisfaction of doing a fun activity with wonderful people in the fandom! /hj
No but really, you get to take part in creating something really cool that you, me, and all of us can be proud of. You get to have your own finished work when this is all over, along with everyone else's!
No one will be getting paid in money, as this is a volunteer project and the zine is free. But all contributors will get access to the PDF link earlier than the public, and we all generally get to have fun together!
And I hear the skills it takes to work on a zine is a good thing to put on your resume /j
Is this zine digital or will there be physical copies?
Only digital. It will be a PDF on Google Drive, available to view and download at anyone's discretion.
There will be no printing of the Kinderzine, and no shipping of physical copies. There will be no merch (buttons, stickers, keychains, etc) available either; only this zine.
What are the zine specs?
1 full page (and front or back cover): 8.5 x 11 inches 1 half page: 8.5 x 5.5 inches 2 page spread: 17 x 11 inches   2 page connecting cover:  17 x 11 inches + 0.75 inch bleed (a bleed is a border around the image where that area will be cut off from the final (usually printed) product)
300 DPI  |  RGB (not CMYK)  |  Horizontal or vertical  |  you can add a bleed or not, but it's not going to be printed either way
You won't be yelled at or anything if you don't follow the DPI or colour guidelines, but it just makes it easier to put it into the editing software. Full-colour finished artwork is preferred (shading is not mandatory; flat colour is acceptable).
Will there be NSFW content?
This zine is PG13. Content of sexual nature is absolutely not permitted in any form.
Following the canon Kindergarten 2 game, there maybe be things like canon-typical blood, death, violence, or dark humour. These things along with anything else others may find to be 'sensitive topics' will be prefaced with appropriate trigger warnings.
How old do I have to be to apply?
As I said, the zine is PG13. Please be 13 years old or older, if you wish to apply.
If you are almost 13 in a few months or even a few days after the time of the application period, then you are still 12 during the application period and cannot apply. Sorry. If you lie about your age to get in, you will be kicked from the project immediately.
Can I apply for multiple roles?
Absolutely! But please note that the more roles you have, the less work you may have to do on one specific role, as your workload will be distributed across your other roles.
For example: if you are a mod and contributor, you might only be able to draw/write 1-2 things maximum depending on your mod position. Whereas someone who is only a contributor might be able to draw/write 2-3 things maximum, if they wish to do so.
How many contributors will be accepted?
Currently there isn't a specific amount of slots we need for artists or writers!
The amount of contributors required to make this zine happen at all, at the minimum is 11 applicants, regardless of artist or writer. But we would be incredibly happy to have more than that join this project. If there are way more applicants than needed, we may either try to find a way to fit you in, or have to unfortunately exclude some people. Only time will tell :’)
What is the schedule?
The current schedule can be found in [this link]! Dates may be changed in the future, and will be announced to contributors.
What if I need to drop out?
That's perfectly okay! Just please be sure to let one of the mods know as soon as possible so we have time to prepare any rearranging/reorganizing of zine content that might occur after your absence.
Can I post my WIPs/sketches/writing/finished pieces even if the zine isn't published yet?
Yeah that's fine! You own your content and are free to do what you want with it if you're that excited about it.
Can my piece include a ship/AU/OC/headcanon?
If it's one of the main mission/character pieces, then no.
Small headcanons are alright but if they're more obvious and non-canon-based you should talk to me about it first. Canon ships are allowed (Bob x Applegate, Lily x Nugget, Monty x Carla (even if it's kind of unrequited), etc). OCs can be in the background as a cameo, but they can't be the main focus of your work.
If you're doing an additional piece, then yes absolutely! Keep in mind, however, there will be limited slots for these additional pieces.
Can I submit older work created before the production of this zine?
Yes, as long as it fits the page specs, or you don't mind cropping the art so it fits the page specs to a smaller page size!
Older fanfics are fine as is, provided it's canon-based unless you're submitting it as an additional work.
Can I draw/write a different character/mission?
Please ask a mod about this. If we can find someone willing to switch with you, you can.
Don't switch with people more than once, and don't do it without talking to a mod first. If you are going to switch with anyone, you're only allowed to do that before the 2nd check-in date. Anything past that date is not allowed.
What exactly can we draw/write once we're assigned a specific character/mission?
Contributors have the creative freedom to make anything they want within the characters/missions that get assigned.
If that's too broad and you can't think of anything to draw/write, let one of the mods know and we can give you a more specific prompt.
Will there be extensions if I can't finish by the deadline?
Yes! Just let one of the mods know so we can expect your final work at a later date.
Your piece will still need to be finished before the graphics team finishes the early-access PDF. It's greatly preferred that you do finish by the deadline to make this easier for them to finish their job, but if you really can't, that option is available.
If you're unable to finish before the graphics team finishes the final public-ready PDF, your work will, unfortunately, not be included in the zine at that point.
What if I'm a traditional or phone artist and don't know how to keep my art to the page specs?
Traditional artists should be able to either scan their art in high quality, or if taking a picture, take the picture as clear as possible with only/mostly your art within frame; the graphics team will try to take care of sizing.
Phone artists (or really any digital artists) can have canvas templates that are the correct specs, available to copy or download to draw over that I can personally provide for you (though I don't know yet how well this method will work).
If there are any more questions or you need more help, please contact a mod.
If your art is too small, you can try using http://waifu2x.udp.jp/ to enlarge it without hurting the quality too bad.
If it still doesn't fit the aspect ratios, the graphics team can still make it work so don't worry! We really, really prefer that everyone follow the page sizings as much as you can though, unless it's really impossible for you to do so.
Wait, there’s a Discord server? Can I join?
Only if you’re one of the artists or writers who is directly contributing to the zine! Sorry! It’s a private server where those who are directly involved in the zine will be invited.
If you’ve already sent in an application, you will be invited to the server on, or a few days before, the date that applications close. Which will be March 13th, as of writing this, so please be patient until then. The date that invites will be sent out may change, so keep an eye out for that too.
What if I don't have a Discord and can't join the Discord server?
That's perfectly fine! You don't have to make an account or join the server if you don't want to either.
As long as you have an e-mail, or a social media account that one of the mods have + the ability for us to private message you, we will keep you updated on anything Kinderzine related!
The server is really just a way for us all to communicate with each other, mods and contributors alike, and keep in touch with the mods more accessibly. But the important stuff will still be communicated with you, and if you contact a mod somewhere other than Discord, we'll get to your message as soon as possible.
Please direct any other questions not on the FAQ to either the Discord server’s #zine-questions channel, or this blog’s/my main blog’s ask box or private messages.

The usual Comic Con post incoming, this one being the one in Ahoy Rotterdam. I went as Ladybug as that is my easier go-to outfit.
After an extremely stressful way there (no miracle I have a headache), I arrived at Comic Con safely and for the first time ever I spent money within the first ten minutes I think? I bought quite a few items, good thing I had birthday money lying around from last December.
So these are all the goodies I bought:
Tumblr media
The first thing I found was PlayStation playing cards. They are inside a metallic cover and well... when I was paying I was just realizing I have a PlayStation wallet. I guess it’s clear what is my preferred console, haha.
Other than that two dice sets. The right one is colourful and magical, which will be perfect for my child wizard in the future. The left set with pink and black are for my halfling rogue. The darkness for how she stays within the shadows, and the pink for the softness she carries. The pink is stronger in real life than on the photo.
Tumblr media
I actually bought the bard card set before I got the dice, because the dice were a purchase I made after I decided I had leftover budget. I was not kidding when I say I want to go bard in a future campaign. Now I am absolutely prepared. Also, the spell card deck is much cheaper than online as far as I recall. I only know this cause I recently had been looking for a druid deck for a friend.
The Digimon image is actually a magnet! I am not over fond of square designs, but finding Digimon is rare and it’s a cute picture (Taichi is munching something while seated on Greymon’s head). I also saw another artist with flabbergasting amazing art, like holy shit, it was amazing, but they only sold prints and I prefer stuff that can be stuck on something (magnets, stickers, keychains, buttons).
Which is why it is probably odd I bought Overwatch prints, but they were 50 cents each, I couldn’t resist. He even sold Lucio, come on. I appreciate anyone who actually makes content for Lucio!
The last two things are the Lucky Charm sticker and the button of Ladybug and Chat Noir, but the latter was actually a gift! The vendor saw me walk by, asked if I was Ladybug indeed and then handed it to me. I was actually quite surprised (and like any Dutch person I accept free things).
Literally all the shop keepers at Comic Con were so nice in general. It was a very small con, which is why I have no cosplay selfies (plus the fact it’s harder when you are alone), meaning they had more time to make conversation.
I also did one commission even if I was tempted to do more. Budgeting and all... so I commissioned my hobbit from Lord of the Rings Online. Because she’s not a D&D character she’s often overlooked when commissioning, so I went for it.
Tumblr media
She looks so pretty, but also young, so I imagine this is what she would’ve looked like in her earlier years perhaps. Since the artist forgot her scar, definitely before her adventuring days. I really like it, and I find it so interesting how she colours. It was made by @nathaliejang and although I was forced to leave later for the train because of the commission, it was worth it.
While I waited for the commission I was actually able to play D&D though! I got to test out my dice (used my rogue dice) and they seem to roll me good numbers.
Tumblr media
I joined the 13:30 campaign and I think we ran until 15:45. They had five characters. Two fighters, one rogue, one cleric and one wizard. Cleric being a favourite class of mine, I called ‘dibs’ before I even got to look at its sheet (mostly because I did not want to play melee and get anxious over wizards). I ended up being a dwarf... alright, fine. I was a little racist towards our elf wizard, but to be fair, he was high on himself so he deserved it. Our human fighter (who was played by a lad in actual armour, very awesome) was also not over fond of the elf, and we had a halfling rogue join us mid-game. This was the knight:
Tumblr media
It was quite fun, though it is hard for me to play a pre-made character with pre-defined goals and flaws, and a race I’d never see myself play. The DM was rather chill (and reminded him that people roll death saves at 0 HP, our wizard fell), so that was nice.
Did I expect to play D&D at a Comic Con? Absolutely not. Will I do it again? Possibly, dependent of the edition. Comic Con in Rotterdam and Amsterdam are so small that there is time to spare, but in Utrecht? No way, too big of a venue with too many events.
The way back was hellish again due to really loud boys (they don’t deserve to be called men with their behaviour) and I have a headache that’s killing me, but at least it was fun.
Oh, and I didn’t even mention I bought fudge... mint flavour, coffee flavour and baileys flavour...

Nueve entering dimension C2E2

Experiencing C2E2 2018 for the first time was a warm welcome to the comic book community. Growing up, I never really took an interest in comics, I grew up in an environment where comics were not a popular trend. Initially, C2E2 overwhelmed me with thoughts of its impressively large community. I couldn't understand how people can be so devoted to one thing, especially to a world of characters that are not real in the physical world. It wasn't until I began to get involved with the artist community, as a student in Yollocalli in my neighborhood of Little Village, that I understood that everyone has a world to get lost in. It helped me respect the thoughts and imagination of others along with my own. So, I decided to enter C2E2 excited and with an open mind.
As soon as I arrived the first thing that caught my attention were some familiar faces like Spiderman, Princess Belle, the Joker, and even Waldo! They were actually just cosplayers, but their costumes were honestly well thought out and put together. The practice of cosplay is such an interesting and awesome form of expression. I noticed that some costumes were more extreme than others, based on the devotion, the fan had for a character. Face paint was another awesome method fans used to express their devotion to these fictional worlds. Families also showed their creativity and teamwork with matching costumes from the same universe. It was so heartwarming to see parents cosplaying alongside their children!

Adding to the awesomeness, there were many artists who were vending their artwork. When I say many, I mean like hundreds! There were a great deal of things to buy from like prints, keychains, mugs, t-shirts, buttons, stickers, you name it! There were also stations where they had a particular focus like jewelry, wands, or wigs. A lot of the artist were selling fan art but I noticed some of them selling their own original characters, which I thought was amazing! Their work was created with different types of mediums and surfaces. Some artists caught my attention by the way they combined cultures together through their craft. Just like the t-shirt I bought from an artist who combined Papa Smurf with Biggie Smalls. It made me happy to see the artists using C2E2 as a platform to get their work noticed. C2E2 did a great job by giving hundreds of artist from all over the country their own space to expose their unique artwork in the expo.
Going into the geeky stuff, there were a variety of goods to purchase. There was a section for comic books and even collectable artifacts for the huge booje fans. There were panel discussions, screenings, and interviews. The fans had the opportunity to get a photograph taken along with an autograph from some actors for a fee, of course! I realized that one of the biggest highlights at the moment was Marvel. Most of the fan art consisted of Marvel characters and settings. I expected to see more Black Panther material, but it seemed that there was a bit of everything else. I guess the hype was also from the upcoming Marvel movie Avengers: Infinity War. Some stations were giving out Marvel souvenirs for free like posters, calendars, and buttons. I found it lovely that everyone was able to take something back home.

Overall, C2E2 will have you leaving reality at the entrance. You get the chance to explore various imaginative and geeky realities. I would like to go back with friends and family since I would like them to live this experience for themselves. One of the greatest things I left with was motivation. As a young artist, I hope to get to see my work become as successful and awesome as the work I saw. I aspire to see new worlds get more popular, as there are many artist with amazing ideas that should get acknowledged greatly. Thank you Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo for the fun experience.

FAQ
1. So what is this fanzine about?
This is a fanzine dedicated to Shigeo Kageyama aka Mob! I chose the name Try Hard for the zine because throughout the series Mob truly believes that by working hard to achieve his goals is the only way to live life. He doesn’t want to use his telekinesis to be his only defining trait. So to celebrate this sweet child, why not have a fanzine dedicated to him and his hard work?
2. Does it ONLY have to be Mob?
No! In fact I encourage other important characters who affect Mob’s life to be included (from the anime OR manga) However Mob must be included, so please don’t ask to draw a piece of daddy Reigen seducing the viewer. While I’d personally be down, I want this to really showcase Mob.
3. Can we draw ships? Is NSFW ok?
No there will be no shipping for this zine. While other characters are involved, I want this zine to focus on Mob.
NSFW is absolutely not allowed. Not only is Mob underage, most characters are as well. And don’t even get me started on throwing Reigen in there.
4. How many artists will be chosen? Are there invited artists?
There will be around 20-25 artists chosen along with 3-5 extra merch artists. I will only be doing sticker designs and buttons because the cost of making keychains (at least I feel) would be way too  much. But if there’s enough want for them I can be persuaded.
There are a few invited artists, but most of them are personal friends. I’m inviting them because 1) They like Mob 2) I really want this project to happen so if it’s just us then so be it. They aren’t included in the 20-25 chosen artists, but will have a definite spot.
5. Will artists get a physical copy of the zine for free?
I will do my best to get artists physical copies, but I can’t make promises on this for sure. It’s all dependent on the interest in this zine and the amount of preorders.
What I CAN promise is a digital copy for every participating artist in a PDF with watermarks on each piece.
6. What are you going to do with the profits?
All profits will go to charity! I’m still looking for one I think would be a fitting charity for a Mob centered fanzine, but I will update as soon as I find one.
7. Does it have to be digital art?
Yes, unless you have a professional scanner. Even then I would prefer the image be digitally edited to have the same look as it does IRL.
8. Will I be contacted if I get in or not?
A list of all artists and positions will be posted when applications are closed, and chosen artists will be sent an email asking for confirmation.
9. Can I keep the rights to my piece? (i.e. produce and sell it on your own)
All artists who join will have rights to their pieces and can use them however they seen fit. But I’m expecting the artists who join to not print out the zine for their own purposes. This is supposed to be a community driven event, not some money making scheme.
10. Lemme fight the nerd who started this
My name’s shaslo. 1v1 me
