Arcane isekai ideas for reader pt. 8
_______________________
- so you know when in isekai stories you see the reader or y/n take the art style form from that reality or either that reality looks more realistic than from the series it’s base from? Not only that but maybe the rules of fiction are different from our world( like for example cartoons like in loony toons being able to recover from situations in the “real world” that would absolutely kill an actual person, like being squished or throw hundreds meters in the air and still surviving) well I had this idea for the arcane story but a bit different
- my idea is that what if when y/n gets isekai from our world to the world of arcane they still retain some features and rules from our world that would make them stand out even more. Like for example y/n hair is more flowing and can take more shapes cause it’s not restricted in 3d model shape like in arcane, or maybe you see the way how more asymmetrical y/n body is because we in our world have asymmetrical bodies and in arcane some proportions have more symmetrical features since being 3d models like for example one size of you body being slightly bigger than the other(hands, feet, eyes). Perhaps whenever y/n gets stuff from our world it would also retain some more “realistic” features like in texture or shading. My favorite one being y/n eyes being more realistic as it gives more unsettling or outworldy feelings because of how the eyes would give a ‘reflecting to one soul through the eyes’ and y/n being more realistic maybe makes the characters wanting to stare into it more.(maybe it might be funny if y/n is terrible on making eye contact but when they do they really stare into your soul)
- maybe this could give more outsider vibes from y/n as not only do they not act or behave like in piltover or zaun but they also feel and look outworldy as well. Maybe when a character touch y/n they can feel the difference in texture on y/n body(whatever the reason may be) like they feel different than other characters from the show because their lack of some “realistic” features they don’t have. Or perhaps they become more infatuated by how the environment effects y/n in a more “realistic” way( like how the hair and clothing get dirty or wet, how the lighting is more reflective on their eyes, how you notice more of their different colors and texture on the skin, etc.) Maybe they also become more protective for y/n when it comes to injures as that also would look different and maybe gruesome for those in arcane. Ohhh maybe to have it a little more unsettling is if y/n insides are still kind looks like from our world, that would be cool!
- I remembered asking something on this on a Genshin isekai story and having thoughts about how that work overtime I thought it would be fun to bring it up again and add on to it.

do you happen,, to have any tips for drawing sky stuff? - Sky children, valley elders n stuff like that etc etc ( talking to mod )
long post incoming! there’s a keep reading button below
programs used: literally just paint tool sai
i feel like before anything, it’s important to have a good grasp on shapes before you get to the details, like this
shape plays a huge role in sky and the player’s perception of the world! this goes for all art in general of course, but everything can be broken down into simple lines and shapes. this is especially prominent in the world’s characters, architecture, and creatures. here’s a handy graphic from tom zhao’s official concept art for sky (just google his name + sky for the full page!). i would HIGHLY recommend looking at it or studying it for a bit if you haven’t already.
elders, while helpful towards the player in the game and guiding them on their mission, are enigmatic and imposing. they fall onto the latter half of this spectrum in terms of both overall silhouette and outfit details/color.
i also like to think of shapes in a 3d manner, especially considering how its a 3d game
sky kids are the true neutral ground between the dark and light in sky, and their in game models all have the same basic shape (discounting height or weight adjustments you may want to make)
look at this nice simple kid!
but they often look more similar to ancestors due to the use of their cosmetics. still, they’re still meant to be childish in stature, giving the idea of innocence but also naivete. the default moth + early cosmetics you unlock are warm in color and rounder in shape (think ponytail, red/orange cape, harp) in comparison to later cosmetics (spiky hairstyles, blue/black/white cape, helmets that change your eye glow from warm to cool). ancestors, elders, and older sky kids are smarter and experienced, but perhaps jaded.
speaking of capes! you don’t have to be some master of fabric drawing or whatever. a lot of people draw them similar to bird wings. if you want a flowier take, i also do this
fabric folds are really just a bunch of triangles and trapezoids. i would use pic refs when unsure.
also, sky kids most certainly can be adapted to any style (left) while still looking like a sky kid.
this also goes for facial features. dont worry about whether or not to add full eyes or noses or mouths lol. or you can draw a normal face and then use it as a base reference.
movement is very important to consider and something i want to improve on myself. sky kids are light, perhaps a bit clumsy, free-flying creatures. the elders and ancestors are more heavy and grounded, but may move with power (wasteland elder), agility (valley twins), or gentleness (prairie elder).
(i’m not going to give an anatomy lesson either but having a feel for your own stylization, especially keeping proportions in mind, will be a big help. particularly looking at different body parts in relation to each other in terms of size, length, etc)
as for color, tom zhao’s concept art goes a lot into that as well. honestly color picking is a pain in the ass considering the atmosphere and lighting of the game if you want to just get flat/base colors. things get very bright or gloomy, so i kinda just make wild guesses lol. this is literally my valley elder color palette.
i’m lucky that this blog is for the twins because they have the most limited palette out of all elders. i really just rely on layer effects to add the intended atmosphere to my art. see:
(layer effects are my best friend lmao... particularly shade, color, and shade/shine)
i will once again reiterate that references are your friend.
not just game references! ive used a ton of pose references + 3d posing programs. i take pics of my hand on my phone sometimes and look at it while drawing on the computer.
this got long! anyway go wild! this is just what personally helps me and goes through my mind subconsciously, but i hope it helps you too ^_^
#ooc#sol talks#my art#please dont take this all as fact LOL im 18 sky art is a fairly recent interest of mine

Mario Artist Talent Studio
This is developed by Nintendo internally this time. The second in the suite, it was bundled with the Capture Cassette and a microphone. These are not required by the software.
There is something I didn't say about how to play Mario Artist, I would actually recommend plugging both a controller and a mouse. Using both at the same time can be very efficient when editing stuff for any title of the Mario Artist suite.
This one is more akin to Mii Maker, in which you can create a character. The word Talent, also referred as "Tarento", describes a celebrity of pretty much any kind who regularly appears in media.
There are 3 modes:
Make a Talent, in it is the main character editor.
Make a Movie, which is actually a full fledged movie maker.
Gallery, to show off talents and movies.
Make a Talent
When it comes to make a character... oh boy where do I begin. It's one of the most fully featured character editor I have ever seen, it's filled with love, it's no joke. You can edit the face, the head, the body, the voice (sort of), and details about the character itself.
The face is technically a single texture that you edit, so you have a lot of choice on how to do it: You can make a face using sample parts included with the editor, in which you can do honestly a lot of styles and the skin color you want.
You can capture a face from the Capture Cassette or the Game Boy Camera, which works the same way as Paint Studio, or even just import a picture that you have made with Paint Studio if you want to.
After that, you can actually apply make up on top if you want some additional details that you cannot add otherwise. And then the expressions, which is nothing but a distortion of the face texture. You can do a lot or simply go wild and do some absurd faces...
I only talked about the face editor. The head & body editor works in a similar fashion and some features are shared between both. You basically just select between a HUGE amount of parts, unfortunately you cannot import 3D models for this.
The head editor allows you to select the hair, nose, mustache, hats and much more. You can even sort of reshape parts by moving, rotating or scaling them back & forth. Nothing prevents you to use parts in ways not intended by the devs.
The body editor is a little more limited because the clothing available entirely depends on the body type (Male, Female and Other) of your talent. But there's still a lot of choice. You can change some features of the body, even DK style.
But there's one major feature that's shared between both editors and that's the color selection and patterns. Almost every part for the head or body can have their colors changed or even apply a pattern. You can also change the texture feel.
The patterns can either be captured via Capture Pak or Game Boy Camera, or taken from a Paint Studio image, or simply making it directly via the pattern editor, which may remind you of Animal Crossing... without the 16 color limitation. You can even save your own patterns.
This alone is a feature that shouldn't be underestimated with combined with all the parts that you can customize. You can even have a reflected pattern and have a metal feel.
Then there's the voice editor which is just sample male or female voices with pitch changes. That's it.
You can still have a custom voice to your talent, and that's with the microphone (plugged into the Capture Pak). The talent will just parrot your voice and save it.
The info details editor is pretty simple, you can edit the talent's name, job, birthday, catchphrase, gender, and some free space that you can put anything into.
There's literally 10 gender choices, but technically speaking they're all male & female alternating. You can put N/A and ??? as genders if you desire, it's still technically male/female in manners, but still cool to have such options.
You can also have your talent in what's called "Show Time". Basically it's all light hearted mocapped animations of varying situations, ranging from unfortunate moods to pretty funny, it's just for show. :)
Make a Movie
This about covers the Talent Studio, now let's talk about the Movie Studio. This mode could have been really popular if this came out to the west back then.
A movie can only have 3 actors, and 4 background pictures, and only one actor can appear at a time on the screen. You might have to stretch your creativity with these limitations, but they made up for it by having insane customization.
First of all, the actors can be talents, of course, but you can also use 3D models, either samples, or your own from Polygon Studio. That's already pretty cool.
For the backgrounds, either you select from the wide range of sample backgrounds, or you capture one, or you can just import a picture from Paint Studio. The movie editor also offers solid color backgrounds that do not count here.
Here's a tip: Since 2D images is a common format, you can take screenshots of your movie and reuse them. Same deal for pictures taken in 3D World or of your stage from Polygon Studio (more details when I'll talk about Polygon Studio).
The movie editor is where it gets insane. A scene contains a single actor and background, and from there, you can do anything. The actor can use an animation, for which you can repeat a certain amount, and a camera setup for the scene.
The amount of sample animations is insane, and if that was not enough, you can make your own one using up to 8 keyframes. The camera can be customized, and treats the background and actor seperately, and it's what you use to move actors / background from point A to B.
And even then, that's just the basics of the scene. Then there's the full editing mode, which appears more like a video editor. That's where you can setup the actor's mood, lighting, special effects, transitions, captions, drawings...
All of them comes with samples... and you can still customize most of them the way you want. There's also music and sounds, of course.
You can record up to 3 custom sounds for a movie. You also have a sound vault to keep up to 8 recorded sounds.
Unfortunately there's no Sound Studio, so no real custom music possible. Gotta deal with samples most of the time. At least there's a high quality version of Baby Mario's crying sound from Yoshi's Island (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNcWqRhLxiE)
There's actually a bunch of movies that were uploaded to the Internet, here's a compilation of some of them:

Rambling about Talent Studio
This should be about it for the Movie Studio.
Mario Artist Talent Studio was shown as early as 1997 during the 64DD Showreel for Spaceworld 1997, as "Talent Maker", alongside "Picture Maker" and "Polygon Maker". "Sound Maker" would be also announced around that time.
We know it was one of Miyamoto's pet projects, where he really wanted some kind of character creation, an idea that he had experimented since the Famicom Disk System. He really kept going with it, he was obsessed with it, again on 64DD, then GameCube, then the Wii.
Heck, Miyamoto even pushed the project during his keynote at GDC 1999, with some humor to add.
One of the cut contents of Talent Studio is also a minigame which is sort of like Super Monkey Ball, it was shown in 1997. And then just like Paint Studio, seemed to have been removed in the last year of development.
Talent Studio has some importance in Nintendo's development history, outside of the Miis.
The Show Time mode is full of motion captured animations, directed by Shinya Takahashi (yes, that person in recent Nintendo Directs!) & Tsuyoshi Watanabe. I have recently uncovered a Show Time Edit mode, check out this video that showcases it:
youtube
You can also find cheat codes to access it in the Talent Studio page from @CuttingRoomWiki.
During development of its successor, Stage Debut for the GameCube, they reused Talent Studio assets. It also required the use of the "GameEye", the camera for the GBA. This was a time when Nintendo was very experimental.
Which then another project took its place, called "Ningen Copy Manebito", and the GBA camera would be called "Manebito Camera". Outside of the trademarked logos, all we know is that they used Stage Debut's engine as a base according to Iwata Asks.
And that should be about it for this Talent Studio thread. Next one will be about Mario Artist Polygon Studio.

‘Aight laddie; if you could change the nether (add things or take away shit) what would ya do??
I have a lot of ideas about how I’d improve it, but adding all of them might be a little overkill. Here they are though.
Increase the height from 128 to 256.Overall, change the generation so things look more spiky and like.. stretched out. Hard to explain but yeah. it should feel less “cramped” like you’re constantly crouching through a damp crawlspace full of clutter and more abyss-ish, like you’re an ant treading through grass.Overhaul fortress generation so they’re less “flat” in the sense they’d have more variation and depth. They should also be bigger and be quite far up height-wise. and also they should really connect via damaged pathways to surrounding nether fortresses so it’s more like a natural network.Digging nether quartz should trigger pigmen aggression.I want Ghast ai to be better so they’re more nefarious. Randomize their size as well and make it scale with their fireball power. Change fireballs to 3d block entities rather than 2d sprites. Big Ghasts should be able to shoot very powerful fireballs. I would want them to be balanced very precisely spawnrate/power-wise so encounters are more varied but overall about the same difficulty as the old ones.Add sort of… areas of organic-shaped holes in the bedrock roof and floor every so often. But also make going above the nether make you fall upwards and take damage like void and below would be like “hard-coded” dark red lava which ignores potion effects and armor. Elytra flying in the above-void should be possible (though hard to learn) and potentially very fast. This would be meant to increase their value and utility.Nether-wide Lava tides - fluctuates from y=10 to like y=64 rarely.Which would be effected by…Netherquakes! I want to see a sort of weather effect where sometimes random selections of chunks within an around 10 chunk radius of the player can randomly scroll sideways within their selection and/or up and down, only affecting naturally occurring blocks (not inc. lava or bedrock). Built stuff like cobblestone would be unaffected and tubes made from cobblestone would remain empty inside still though. Nether fortress chunks would not be affected by netherquakes.Add a new type of structure, Infernal Hives, which house nether-wasps. They’d be similar in mechanics to withers and sounds such as music boxes, doors, trapdoors, etc, would anger them. They should be able to break through obsidian as well and act much like a sort of final challenge for the stupidly courageous. They basically act as something you’d have to path AROUND in the nether, or path VERY CAREFULLY and slowly past.Make glowstone have physics that are nether-specific. You should be able to dig out the netherrack above them and then have them fall and shatter.Soul sand should drain your EXP when you step on it, but only in the nether.Gravel should fall UP in the nether. fungus like “blades” of floating gravel should be made more common too. Gravel that falls upwards into the void should fall back down again and have a rare chance to break and produce a Shadow flint. Which would be used to craft Shadow Flint n’ Steel. It lights fires that are purple in appearance but has half the durability of regular flint n steel. It’s meant as a little cosmetic reward but could be given other uses later. Probably involving cauldrons.Netherwart should be found outside of fortresses, and stepping on it while in the nether should cause you to become poisoned. It should also be given a in-the-nether specific texture. Sort of thinking along the lines of fungal rods that are constantly spraying out spores.Nether serpents. These mobs would be very translucent at first and be found coiled around clusters of glowstone and within soul sand. digging blocks near them would make them become opaque and aggressive. I imagine they’d spew fire breath at the player and you’d have to sort of take cover periodically to fight them effectively.Let players sleep in the nether, but have it drain their hunger entirely, add a weakness effect to them, teleport them 500 blocks in a random direction, and blow up their bed’s previous location. This would be meant as a risky way to travel. That’s all I think the nether needs. I don’t think it needs biomes or giant mushrooms or bone spikes or firebats or whatever. it just needs to feel more like a realm of pure chaos and fire and offer more rewards and utility to experienced, equipped players.

My Top 10 Characters I Want in Smash Ultimate
I got a couple of requests for this in my last Smash reaction video, and I didn’t want to make it a full video, so it’ll go here, HERE WE GOOOOOOOOOOOOO. (Also, none of my top 10 need to be echo fighters, but I’ll throw in a few echos near the end.)
10) Alex Roivas from Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem
This will not happen, especially with Simon and Richter filling the horror game niche, but I can dream, darnit. For the unaware, Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem was a 2002 GameCube exclusive psychological horror game; it’s basically Resident Evil meets Call of Cthulhu, and it’s my favorite horror game of all time. In the game, you play as Alex Roivas, a few of her ancestors, and few other schmucks across history unfortunate enough to stumble across an ancient book called the Tome of Eternal Darkness, which drags them into a conflict that could destroy the world. Alex ends up using the knowledge she’s learned from the Tome to stop the rise of three ancient deities, each bent on world domination. So in Smash, she could have the Tome at her disposal and could even carry it into battle like Robin does. Her standard attacks can involve normal weaponry she uses like guns and knives and stuff, while her special attacks can all involve using the Tome to summon something. For her Final Smash, she can hit everyone in a set radius around her with a huge sanity effect that adds 100% damage and breaks the shield of anyone caught in it, leaving them wide open for a heavy attack and a KO. Plus, more strong female Smash characters, never a bad thing.
9) Decidueye from Pokemon
Every Smash game has a new Pokemon rep, and there’s quite for few on the rumor mill. Gardevoir and Gothitelle get brought up a lot, but they’d draw a lot of comparisons to (and may end up being an EF to) Mewtwo, especially in Gardevoir’s case. They could also throw in a currently unannounced Pokemon from Gen 8 with that being right around the corner. But, Decidueye makes the most sense to me. It’s got a cool design and there aren’t many characters that uses arrows in their arsenal, basically just the Links and Pit. Plus, his Flying type would give him really strong recovery, most comparable to Charizard’s. For his Final Smash, give him Zelda’s FS from Brawl, a giant arrow that KO’s everyone in a straight line.
8) The Eeveelutions from Pokemon
If you like Pokemon, odds are good that you like at least one of the Eeveelutions. Espeon’s my favorite Pokemon ever, and Jolteon, Umbreon, and Sylveon are up there too. And there’s eight Eeveelutions at the moment (not counting Eevee) and eight alternate costume spots for each character, so here’s what I’m thinking. You reveal the Eeveelutions in the next Direct, and put up a poll on the Smash website: Who is your favorite Eeveelution? The winner of the poll is the default character, while everyone else are the alt costumes. This does mean that the Eeveelutions will have to be virtually identical, but that shouldn’t be too hard, a Flamethrower can look like a Hydro Pump, a Thunderbolt, a Psyshock, etc. with some small cosmetic changes. And their Final Smash could either be similar to Mega Man’s where everyone joins in for a giant combined attack, or if you wanna get cartoony, have them get into a big dust cloud fight with other Eeveelutions joining in before the victim gets launched offscreen by it. Plus with Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee coming soon, it’s a great time to give Eevee’s family some love
7) Black Shadow from F-Zero
You know me, I love F-Zero GX more than I love three square meals a day, and at the moment, there’s barely any Smash representation for the GREATEST RACING GAME OF ALL TIME, so let’s change that. Samurai Goroh is already an Assist Trophy, so how about Falcon’s other main rival, Black Shadow? Taking a quick look at him, he’s obviously a big, strong character which makes him well-equipped to be in a fighting game. But taking a second look at him will make you chuckle, because he’s kinda goofy looking. He’s wearing a full-body black spandex suit, with bull horns, cloven feet, and a cape. Yea, he’s a sadistic monster in the games and the anime, but still he’s a little hard to take seriously. And that can work in his advantage. In Nintendo Directs, they like to use villains that you can kinda take the piss out of in certain places, like Dedede, Wario, and surely in the future, K. Rool. Black Shadow can exist in a similar role, and maybe the four can form some evil alliance if they decide to make Subspace Emissary 2. (Please make Subspace Emissary 2.) His Final Smash can be identical to Falcon’s, hit your opponent with the Black Bull, works just fine. Plus, maybe a new F-Zero character could build hype for a new game in the series? Please?
6) Paper Mario
I’m not sure why some people want Paper Mario to be Mario’s EF? Wasn’t the point of Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam to show how different those two are? Anyway, Paper Mario has a bevy of ways to attack that would help him stand apart from his 3-dimensional counterpart. His standard attack can involve his hammer (which Mario doesn’t have), with the directional standards involving various badges like the Hammer Throw and the Ice Smash. His special attacks can use his various buddies. Parakarry can be his recovery, Vivian can be a Down-B defense tool, you could even use Thoreau as his throwing mechanic. And the final Smash could involve one of the realistic items from the new games, like the electric fan blowing all the opponents offscreen. I don’t know much about the newer games, they didn’t look as good.
5) Shadow the Hedgehog
This is another one that COULD be an Echo Fighter, but Shadow plays pretty differently to Sonic in their games. He skates instead of runs, he uses weapons whereas Sonic just uses his speed, Shadow has a FUCKING GUN, there’s plenty that you can do with Shadow to separate him from Sonic. Particularly involving his Final Smash, Chaos Control. When it’s used, everyone on screen freezes for ten seconds. In that time, Shadow can use one heavy attack after another after another, and when the time runs out, all the damage and force from those attacks hit at once, and that character will go flying. It’d be kinda like Link’s Stasis from Breath of the Wild (which should be Link’s FS, but oh well)
4) Spring Man from Arms
So, Arms wasn’t as big of a hit as people were hoping. That’s a bummer, it looks like a fun game. How about we give it one last shot in the arm (teehee) to try to boost its exposure? Put Spring Man in the game, and have him focus on long-range attacks and throws. His recovery can be a long whip that grabs ledges like Olimar’s. And for his Final Smash, give him a big winding tornado throw that KOs whoever he grabs and damages anyone who gets hit by the swinging arms in the process. Show what he can do in Smash, and maybe it’ll entice people to see what he can do in Arms. I just want that game to be successful.
3) Rayman
I was shocked that Rayman didn’t get into Smash WiiU, since it seems like Nintendo and Ubisoft have been on great terms for a long time, like how Rayman Origins and Legends ended up on Nintendo consoles when it had almost no third-party support. Rayman even had a trophy in WiiU, so it was really surprising to me that he wasn’t one of the DLC characters. Let’s fix that. His unattached limbs would give him some good range, he’d have some magic that he could use at his disposal for special attacks. And for his Final Smash, how about summoning a swarm of mosquitoes to fly across the screen, doing massive damage with each hit, like a super-powered version of the Beedrills from Smash 64?
2) Geno from Super Mario RPG
I’m not a huge Final Fantasy guy, but I’m so glad Cloud got into Smash WiiU/3DS, because it throws the door wide open for other Square characters. A lot of people think this will lead to Sora from Kingdom Hearts getting in (doubtful), but I want Geno to finally get in. He did get an outfit for the Mii Gunner in the last game, but seeing him actually in Smash, not just as a Mii, would be so great. Mario RPG is criminally underrated, and it laid the groundwork for the Paper Mario and the Mario & Luigi games. He’d, of course, be a long range fighter, using his finger cannons as his main attacks, and for his Final Smash: the Geno Flash, which would be like a combination of Pit’s and Jigglypuff’s FS. You’d go offscreen and aim a point on the map. From that epicenter, a giant blast grows, trapping and damaging anyone who gets in the blast radius, before launching those victims off the stage.
Honorable Mentions (Echo Fighters)
Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat brought Funky Kong back into the fold, and he’s got a very similar body type to Donkey Kong, so that makes perfect sense to me.
Hyrule Warriors could use a representative, and since Midna’s already an Assist Trophy, how about Impa? She’s got a great look and could borrow Sheik’s moveset quite well.
I never bought Wart as an Echo Fighter, since the characters he was usually attached to (Bowser or Dedede) didn’t feel similar enough. But K. Rool, on the other hand, fits just right. K. Rool looks like a caricature of Wart.
People seem to like Xenoblade Chronicles 2, so let’s add to the Xenoblade cast in Smash. I don’t know a lot about Rex, besides his goofy pants, but I’m sure he’d be a great fit.
This might seem odd, but how about Andy from Advance Wars as an Echo to Bowser Jr.? Andy could ride in a tank and shoot projectiles while using the turret as a short-range melee attack? Could work.
1) Sans and Papyrus from Undertale
No, but could you imagine?
1) Crash and Coco Bandicoot
This would be the kind of Internet breaking character that you put as the last character added to give one final hype boost to the already unstoppable Smash hype train. The N. Sane Trilogy is already out on Switch, so the publishers already have their foot in the door, so let’s just go for it. And as an added bonus, you could announce Coco Bandicoot at the same time (like Simon and Richter) for added excitement. (I would absolutely main as Coco.) Their standard attacks could revolve around their spin attacks, while their specials would involve using their various powerups like the fruit bazooka and the belly flop. And the Final Smash would involve using Aku Aku to turn invincible for a brief time. Yes, they’re kinda doing away with that kind of FS, maybe they could make a cutscene out of it and cause an instant KO or something. I don’t know, just gimme Crash in Smash, please.

Ready To Wear, Ready To Play
As previously noted, there’s been yet another change in direction for the Attract Mode blog… which I have dubbed Version 2.8 Final CE EX Λ Core Plus Alpha. BTW/FYI. But yeah, been posting on Twitter, a lot. So much so that you may have missed something, so here’s a recap!
Note: was originally going to cover everything tweeted throughout the month, but because there’s so much to cover (and February’s short)… am guessing bi-weekly might be the way to go. Am also going to present things mostly in order.
K, enough chatter: at the very top is another fine example of a Famicom being the ultimate in fashion accessory (via nintendu). And here we have, not designer threads but designer plastic (via gamefreaksnz)...

Speaking of plastic, Sega (or someone who got Sega’s blessing, or maybe not even) made Super Monkey Ball figures? Guess so (via magimacaque)...

I was under the belief that, if I truly wanted to make an impact with the relaunch of the Attract Mode Twitter, I couldn’t just post one single piece of Klonoa fan art, but two...

And I only have one example of Cuphead fan art, but it’s the one that counts (via jothelion)...

It was Kyle who helped kick the Attract Mode Twitter’s rebirth into high gear, with the reveal of his Nintendo Power covers. So to help replay the favor, I must insistent that everyone purchase the hard copy of RPG_Friends (which I first mentioned here)...

Nothing makes me happier than seeing such a dense assortment of Japanese game stuffs (via peazy86)...

... Yet that being said, I also believe less can be more, plus a nice breeze while playing Secret of Mana is... well... nice (via sixteen-bit.tumblr)

There's so much I love about this interview with the creator of Hong Kong 1997, whose goal was "to make the worst game possible”. Though this picture of the guy is near the top of my list...

On Valentine's Day I came across a horror movies blog that presented various horror movie Valentines, including one for Jason Voorhees that references Friday The 13th for NES (via cameraviscera.com)...

Also, for Valentine's, my girlfriend made me pixelated chocolate; the pic does the blue hearts in particular zero justice, which look like plastic toys, but most assuredly are made of milk chocolate...

... And that’s it for now! The rest of February coming up in a few!

My note Below:

1.Game of memory: involves mnemonic principles and techniques used to organize memory impressions, improve recall; includes the association of emotionally striking memory images within visualized locations, the chaining or association of groups of images...
2.Conclusion of Game theory: Game theory started as a mathematical exploration of human behaviors. The point of game theory is to understand decision making.
What needs to be considered in game theory: Does a certain player always have an advantage, no matter the behavior of the other players? Or is the game always balanced, as long as the players involved make intelligent decisions most of the time?
Emotions:
3.Game theory in Game Design: https://www.gamedesigning.org/learn/game-theory/
The point of game theory is to understand decision making.
If there is a choice players can make in a game to give themselves an unfair advantage, a few players will find it and start abusing it.
{Tips for me: It’s possible to use a game theory decision matrix and build backwards to reverse engineer a game. You’ll probably want to start simple with this one, because the more decisions you add, the exponentially more complex the game can get.}

II. Ten good games (I analyzed their advantages):
1.The Magic tower (strategy game): Players have very limited resources (HP MP keys etc.) to make their way upstairs to the top of tower (50 floors). So players have to make very wise decision each time. This kind of challenge motivates players eager to get to the tower top.
https://www.solitaireparadise.com/games_list/tri_towers_solitaire.html

2. Traditional magic cube & Chinese puzzle rings: Players need to memorize each of their step very well, and sometimes need to think backwards.
3.Paper fortune teller: Super easy to play with, but gives complex and interesting results. The strategy is to do a good math about odd and even numbers. However, it still involved a lot of randomness. Also, the game designer (2nd pic) have the complete right to decide the probability of “good and bad” things, which attracts players curiosity.

4. Pick stick game: It needs some physical skill, and involves lots of randomness. Unlike most strategy games, It’s mostly unpredictable. It’s a slow process that good to kill people’s time.
5. The Jungle game: It’s an animal chess. The most interesting part is that the food chain design. It’s an endless circle: because mouse seems the weakest animal in jungle but it can actually kill elephant, who seems at the top of the food chain. Maybe because of this, the chess is super playable.
6. Drop the Handkerchief and Musical chair: This two games are all team games which force players stressful and afraid of “die” because of inadequate resources. The way for them to “make a living” is to rob other people’s resources directly or indirectly. Players can only take actions on certain moment or complete actions in every limited time. In my opinion, these games are more like “limited time robbery game”.
7.Maria Stella: For players, the trigger behavior is super easy, just spin the plate, and there will be maybe hundreds of possibilities of the result. But it’s a lot of work for game designer the design the “events”. But they get the right to decide the probability. It’s a game of chance.
8. EUCLID’S ELEMENTS and the FEZ game: The two games all “play trick on 2d and 3d”. EUCLID’S ELEMENTS is taking advantage of 3D to explain 2D stuffs. But the FEZ game as a game, it does the opposite: it blokes players’ 3D vision, and tell them to finish task that only can be done in 3D. But there will be clues provided to help players to solve seemingly impossible tasks.
In my opinion, it’s like solving puzzles in a creative way.
FEZ - Game designers’ vision - players can see it (If players see it, all the puzzles will be solved).

FEZ: Players’ 2D vision.

9. Untitled goose game: https://store.steampowered.com/app/837470/Untitled_Goose_Game/
As a narrative game, there’s no demo gameplay instructions or text instructions for players (which is rare). It only provides players with some simple “emoji like” conversations between NPCs.
This kind of direction of interaction is what I appreciate most. It’s an easy and efficient way for understanding what’s going on.
10. VR Chat:
https://www.vrchat.com
You can immerse your whole body into the virtual world. It’s based on the VR device set Oculus Quest. You play a virtual character that customized by you. The device track your body gestures and positions. So, your interactions among people are very close to reality. However, the real fun is still hide your real appearance and most importantly - emotions. I feel like this “game” can become the future way of life.
You can join realistic events in the community.

III. Thoughts on Readings:
My biggest reflection is, “Human beings being mortal, no recreational game is intended to go on forever.” I find some parts the reading boring (about a half), especially when author explained some mathematic field in game theory. Unlike games, most of the game theory examples just don't have enough rewards for participants’ efforts. Most strategies are charts of probabilities, just like the basic model of Prisoners' dilemma.
1. Poundstone Game_Theory:
I strongly agree with: Jacob Bronowski , he wrote "You must see that in a sense all science, all human thought, is a form of play. Abstract thought is the neotenyl of the intellect, by which man is able to carry out activities which have no immediate goal (other animals play only while young) in order to prepare himself for long-term strategies and plans." So I think that’s why I sometimes feel most human activities involve game theory.
Borel posed the basic questions of game theory: for what games is there a best strategy, and how does one find such a strategy? This question really burns my head off.
In the Cake Division example, game theory is mostly about fairness.
“Chess is not a game, von Neumann told Bronowski. He meant that there is a ‘correct’ way(s) to play the game.” Therefore, in some cases, other than game designers, designers of interactive installations aren’t designing a games, because they expect audience to accomplish a task in only one predictable way. For example: For my thesis, in my anticipation, only when the two audience show the same facial expression at the same time, the shards image they see will become an image of complete object.
“Unfortunately, the complexity of games, and of the necessary com- putations, increases exponentially with the number of players.” “Von Neumann and Morgenstern point out that a zero-sum n-person game is in effect a function ofn variables, or alternatively, an n-dimensional matrix.” This two sentences warns me the difficulty of my thesis, but also tells me is solvable using game theory.
2. Works of Game 1-8:
I love the phrase “new ways of using games to think about the rest of the world”. And Bill Viola’s work “The night journey” has more concerns of artistic practice. Also, I find some other works of Bill Viola has been used of “game strategies”. For example, “Catherine's Room” isn’t like a game at all, it’s with pure art elements, but the composition of the visual remind me of some video game settings. It’s one certain character in different situations that may be the different results of players’ decisions.

“Catherine's Room”
The second example is “Mártires, which is my favorite one. The best strategy Bill uses is to make viewers confuse about time. There’s 4 events below. Each event has two possibilities: the video is played in normal real life speed, another possibility is the video reversed. For example, viewers may think: Is the man being burned by fire? Or the man escapes from fire? Moreover, 4 events link with each other in some kind of narrative tension. So Bill really grabs viewers interest and make them busy of comparing different events with each other.
“Mártires”
At the end of the introduction, “Chess is an idea space and a material from which art can be made.” This make me begin to think what “material” I need for my project.
At first, I need to know what’s my goal. My goal is hiding some information away from players’ view, and lead them to find something that I’m hidden. Or the result can be unknown.
I would like to use a “puzzle-like-game” form, because before the puzzle is completed, people don’t know what the “game” creator wants to say. The need some kind of instruction to complete the puzzle. So, what I need to think of is the instruction part. I’ll make the instruction not so directly so that players can devote more time spending on my art game. But the instruction should also be attractive to ensure that people won’t feel bored while interacting with it.
And I’ll be focused mainly on visual instructions other than texts or sound.

V. Midtterm ideas:
1.”A Soft Murmur” - Guess the mood of each random sound mix.
https://asoftmurmur.com
The result will be in form of record of the guessing and the analysis of sound components. Then I’ll infer the impact of each sound component on our moods.
2. Transparent puzzle: each piece of the puzzle is transparent, instead of putting them together by the edge (horizontally), players can put them together vertically. The result may be only one or multiple ones. Material: transparent acrylic (pattens will be engraved on them), software: Photoshop/Illustrator.

3. Create my own game wheel/target kit. And assign my own possible events by dividing them into even areas. Record the result of playing each time.
4. Create colleges of “random food generator”: https://www.randomlists.com/food?dup=false&qty=3. Form of results: images. Software: Photoshop/Illustrator.
5.Make a contradictory space like "FEZ” game - let players successfully get through left to right on the screen (maybe in limited time). But put fewer and fewer clues, until players can’t get over the space. Form: screenshot of unity (the space will be switched between 3D and 2D visual effect, but they’ll still be made in 3D form). The result: show the image when players fail.
_______________________________________________________________________
W3 Midterm ideas and reading:
1.Reading: Radical game review
I’m interested in The sim game. And I found something interesting:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWaULYGNRiE
I’m shock to see the workflow of designing the prototype of this game.
But as a player, I feel pretty nature to be immersed in the game.
However, for board games, I’m not every into it. It take much time to finish one
round, and if you fail, it sometimes not that fun. Too me, I want to design one kind of game that doesn’t have the result of win or lose. And unpredictable is the key (weather it’s random or in orders). But at least, it has some certain rules to follow.
“The authors are also interested in how games are emerging around the news, beyond the “doing” of traditional news tasks. Literacy news games seek to educate journalists and the public.”
So, Instead of doing traditional tasks, give players more free will to explore new staff, new different ways to achieve sth.

@burtonesquevincent tagged me, thanks! :)
Rules: answer all the questions, add one of your own and tag as many people as there are questions i mean you can tag other people then :)
1. coke or pepsi?
lemon pepsi? idk
2. disney or dreamworks?
Dreamworks!
3. coffee or tea?
herbal/fruit/light green tea. I don’t like bitter taste.
4. books or movies?
both
5. windows or mac?
Windows? I used to want Mac, but today it just seems like an overpriced product that prefers design over functionality. Once game developers start including Linux I’ll switch to Linux.
6. dc or marvel?
I feel like it’s more about the writers, as I just don’t like big corporations much. I really liked Young Avengers and Journey into Mystery. And Agent of Asgard, but it broke my heart so idk if I can recommend it (yes I can), I’ve also read some Robin stuff (mostly Nightwing and Red Robin), where the quality differed as it was written by numerous authors. I want to read Ms Marvel. I started to read Wicked and Divine (Image comics) but there was too much pop-culture references that said nothing to me (not sure, if i’m too eastern Europe, too young, or too abstinent for it. but I might revisit it later because the plot was interesting)
7. xbox or playstation?
PC. Only game console I like is a good ol’ gameboy. (read as: i’m broke and i’ve never owned either)
8. dragon age or mass effect?
Dragon Age, the plots seem more interesting and I love fantasy more than military sci-fi. I don’t like the design of either. I would say I’m picky, when it comes to 3D games, but then... I like WoW, Minecraft, Don’t Starve, Pokémon, Undertale, point ‘n’ click text-heavy adventures and Subnautica and not much more. So idk :D I prefer isometrics and 2D, exploring landscapes, gathering resources, getting to know characters, uncovering mysteries. Romance, timed missions and teambuilding? Nah. 1st person shooters? EVIL.
9. night owl or early riser?
hoo hoo, it’s currently after 1AM and since I don’t have work tommorow, I’m not getting out of bed before the lunch :D
10. cards or chess?
cards. chess are too depressive (idk why, it just makes me sad even if I don’t lose)
11. chocolate or vanilla?
vanilla. I rarely eat chocolate and I used to like the white one the best before I started eating vegan. i got used to the chocolate flavour and sometimes actually crave it a lot, but i still mostly prefer vanilla flavour.
12.vans or converse?
never had any of them, but I would really like to have converse style shoes that go mid-calf length.
13. fluff or angst?
hurt comfort with happy, even unrealisticaly sweet ending. shut up.
14. beach or forest?
calm beach near a calm forrest where there are no dangerous or annoying insects (my skin is delicate and insects tend to be inconsiderate :D)
15. dogs or cats?
generally? cats, i just too often can’t share the dog enthusiasm and being a good team player exhausts me. but animals have different personalities that doesn’t have to match the stereotypes, so I keep an open mind.
16. clear skies or rain?
both is nice, as long as it changes in few days
17. cooking or eating out?
Eating out, probably. I’m not a terrific cook and I hate doing the dishes.
18. spicy food or mild food?
Spicy!
19. halloween/samhain or solstice/yule/christmas?
Halloween. But I like both :)
20. would you rather forever be a little too cold or a little too hot?
eh, probably the first one, but both sounds shit
21. if you could have a superpower, what would it be?
Telekinesis and flying. Aka I wouldn’t have to get up for snacks and I could avoid all obstacles and people when running late somewhere. Also discovering abandoned roofs and towers :3 Oh, and it would be nice if I actually could remember stuff and stay motivated :D
22. animation or live action?
unfair! but if I had to choose, 2D animation.
23. baths or showers?
baths aren’t an option mostly, not enough hot water or bad bath tub. I love baths, but only when it’s perfect temperature and a nice bath tub. otherwise, showers.
24. team cap or team ironman?
MCU? Steve. Comics? Idk, neither.
25. fantasy or sci-fi?
my favourite setting is when it mixes
26. do you have three or four favourite quotes, if so, what are they?
All that is gold does not glitter/Not all those who wander are lost (LotR)
Everybody want’s to change the world but no one wants to die (MCR)
27. youtube or netflix?
youtube
28. harry potter or percy jackson?
Harry Potter. I didn’t read PJ.
29. when do you feel accomplished?
when I can make the brave decision.
30. star wars or star trek?
really?? both, ofc.
31. paperback or hardback books?
hardback, except for the Terry Pratchett books.
32. horror or rom-com?
Hm. How about a horror setting, but it’s funny in an un-american way?
33. tv shows or movies?
eeeeeh, probably movies, i don’t have much time lately so it’s more accesible medium for me
34. favourite animal?
cats, water turtles, parrots, elephants, monkeys...
35. favourite genre of music?
rock, country, rock ‘n’ roll... I like quick beat and catchy melody. I don’t like recitals/hip hop/rap, baladas and whiny pop.
36. least favourite book?
I tend not to remember books I dislike. Serves them good.
37. favourite season?
Late spring, not too hot summer days and early autumn. Temperature is everything.
38. song that’s currently stuck in your head?
Nothing in particular. But I’m always in mood to sing good ol’ MCR at shower :D
39. what kind of pyjamas do you wear?
sweatpants/shorts and a tank top/shirt. zero shoes.
40. how many existential crises do you have on an average day?
Lately, not that much? It’s like twice a week usually, but nothing devastating.
41. if you can only choose one song to be played at your funeral, what would it be?
i don’t think I’ve actually thought about my funeral before? I wouldn’t choose anything with words, just some calm but uplifting melody. Maybe Undertale (from Undertale :).
42. favourite theme song to a TV show?
dun dun dun... go go naruto! :D idek, I don’t even atch TV shows that much...
43. harry potter movies or books?
I liked the books more, but I can’t remember when I read them the last time. The movies are cool too though :)
44. you can make your OTP become canon but you’ll forget that tumblr exists. will you do it?
I’m not giving up this site up! It has it’s problems and bugs, but most of the time it encourages me and puts nice pictures on my dash, so I feel better.
45. do you play an instrument and if so, what is it?
I play the piano badly and I have a basic knowledge how most of the instruments work, does it count? :D
46. what is the worst way to die?
hopeless
47. if you could be entirely invisible for a day, what would you do?
I would use it to make a political statement or action - I would try to find dirt on openly bigoted and hateful famous people and politicians, and maybe sabbotage some neonazis.
48. If you could have personally witnessed anything in history what would it be?
I’d be fascined to find out what was there before the Big Bang. I don’t think I’d be able to comprehend it by just human senses alone though...
49. If you could understand animals but you could never understand humans again, would you?
No. I worked hard to understand at least a little about humans. And I don’t think understanding animals (at least to some extent) is impossible for humans.
50. What is your most favourite album currently?
I don’t do albums.
51. What is your favourite word/phrase/colloquiallism? Name one (or more) per language you speak c:
We’ll burn that bridge when we get there. (eng)

The LG G8X ThinQ Dual Screen Is Something Special
The iPhone ushered in the era of slab phones and quickly became the design-standard for the industry. Companies looking for “the next big thing” are exploring dual-screen phones. Some look more intriguing than others, but all are pricey as hell. With the LG G8X ThinQ Dual Screen, LG has taken a unique approach and kept the phone affordable.
Do more at once with LG G8X ThinQ Dual Screen, and multitask like never before.
That’s how LG describes the G8X ThinQ Dual Screen. As you will see, it is an apt way to capture what this unusual device is all about. To be clear, this isn’t the first time we have been wowed by LG’s approach to dual-screen devices. In February of 2019, Judie wrote about the LG V50 ThinQ and its dual-screen case. And last month, she posted on the LG V60 ThinQ Dual Screen. As both of those posts make clear, LG has settled upon their approach to dual-screen phones and is busy refining it. We have the LG G8X ThinQ Dual Screen in hand and are excited to share some of our thoughts with all of you.
A great deal has been written about the LG G8X ThinQ Dual Screen while I’ve been putting it through its paces. Rather than repeat what is available all over the internet, I thought I would share some of the things that have impressed me during the last few weeks using the phone, as well as some things that have not. Before we dig into that, however, let’s take a quick look at the phone itself.
For those of you who are not familiar with the LG G8X ThinQ Dual Screen, that last statement might seem a bit odd. After all, how do we look at the phone without… looking at the phone. The answer is one of the key things that differentiate the LG G8X ThinQ Dual Screen from other dual-screen devices on the market. Most dual-screen have a single foldable screen that either fold in on itself, thereby hiding the screen or fold out and, when closed, have a screen on both the front and back. The LG G8X ThinQ Dual Screen takes a different approach. It is a traditional slab phone that can be used as you would any other large phone. It, however, comes with an innovative case that adds a second, separate screen. Ideally, this design gives users the best of both worlds. But does it? That’s the question I’ve been asking myself since the phone first arrived.
So let’s look at the phone itself. The LG G8X ThinQ has a 6.4” FHD+ OLED screen with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. Inside the phone, there is 128 GB of storage with slightly more than 102GB available. The phone can accept up to 2TB of additional storage via a microSD card. That’s likely more storage than you will ever need on your phone, but it is nice to know it is possible.
Striking Sleek Design: This device is crafted with smooth, contoured glass for a modern aesthetic. Plus, rounded corners and a sophisticated pattern add an extra touch of elegance.
The front of the phone is entirely glass with a small pinhole camera at the center of the top. If you hate pinhole cutouts, you can change a setting and turn it into a black bar across the top. I honestly can’t understand why anyone would do that, but the option is there for those who are troubled by the pinhole camera cutout.
On the left side, there are volume up and down buttons and a dedicated button for activating Google Assistant. I love the Pixel’s innovative approach that allows you to bring up the Assistant by simply squeezing the phone, but this dedicated button gets the job done too. Toward the top of the left side, there is a small hole for the microphone. It is difficult to see, but it is there.
The sleep/wake/power button sits on the right side of the phone. Access to the SIM and microSD expansion slot is at the top.
On the bottom, you will find the speaker, the USB-C charging port, another microphone, and … a 3.5mm headphone jack. Yup, LG has decided to stick with the traditional headphone jack for now. Unfortunately, they didn’t see fit to include headphones in the box, but if you have a pair of wired headphones hanging around, you will be happy to know they can still be used. Of course, the phone can also be charged wirelessly if you have a Qi-enabled charger handy.
On the back, you will find both cameras and the flash. Notably, the cameras sit flush with the phone. And while that indicates that this promises to be a good smartphone camera but not a “great” one, I do love the fact that there is no camera bulge that looks like it was thrown on as an afterthought, gets scratched, and rocks when you put the phone on a desk.
The sides of the back have a gentle curve toward the from that feels fantastic in the hand and gives an otherwise uninspired design a bit of style.
In all, this is a good-looking but not inspired design.
Fast Performance, Bigger Battery: A Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Octa-core Processor delivers fast, powerful, experiences—all while providing what matters most: insane battery life, powered by our long-lasting 4,000 mAh battery.
The phone is rather zippy. It has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Octa-core processor and a 4,000mAh battery. That means it is not only fast but that it will last an entire day and then some. (Obviously, your mileage will vary depending upon how you use the device.) When you need to charge the phone, you can either connect a cable, is offers Qualcomm Fast charging QC 4.0, and it has wireless charging too.
A Quick Way to Pay: Leave your plastic cards at home and pay quickly with your phone virtually everywhere at both NFC and magstripe payment terminals. LG Pay is a digital wallet that lets you put your credit/ debit, gift, and loyalty cards in one simple-to-use app.
As you would expect, the phone packs Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, and NFC connectivity. The NFC is ideal for using LG Pay instead of reaching for your wallet.
Superb Pixel-Level Detail + 4x Zoom Power: An immense 32 MP front camera gives you superb detail, 4x zoom capability, and the ability to crop photos with the high-resolution quality you expect—and deserve. This is more megapixels than you’ll find in any LG selfie camera!
The rear cameras are a 12 MP Standard with a 78° FOV and a 13 MP Wide-Angle offering 136° FOV. That’s pretty substantial for any phone, let alone one that is priced as a mid-tier device.
The front camera surprised me when I realized it is an impressive 32MP shooter with a 78° FOV. In all, this isn’t the best camera available on a phone in 2020, but it certainly is no slouch. Moreover, if this were just a year or two ago, the hardware being into this phone would be considered bleeding edge. High-end phone cameras have made it to places unheard of until recently, which pushes this phone back into “really good but not the best” territory, but this system will be more than enough for the vast majority of people.
Camera features include:
Capture Every Whisper: It’s your turn to shine. Capture videos with refined sound and detail that tickle your senses and send tingles down your spine.
The Ultra-Widest Lens, Mic Drop!: With a whopping 136? field of view, truly get it all with the widest camera lens out there. Fully capture epic vistas, sweeping landscapes, beautiful architecture, and huge group shots that take your breath away.
Portrait Keep the Focus on You: Add a professional touch by zeroing in on yourself and softening backdrops for an artistic bokeh-blur effect that allows you to stand out.
Action Shot Clear, Action-Packed Shots: Capture crisp, sharp, and clear photos of fast-moving subjects. This feature automatically adjusts the shutter speed to minimize photo blur and keeps subjects in focus.
AI CAM Smart Photo Enhancement: This clever camera recognizes up to 19 subjects and recommends optimized filter options to enhance the exposure, saturation, and more.
Time Lapse Memories at the Speed of Life: Vivid and intricate time-lapse videos help you turn anything from a flower blooming to an inspiring sunrise into a timeless, storytelling film.
Google Lens Search What You See: Get stuff done faster, and interact with the world around you using your camera and AI integration. Copy and paste text, add events to your calendar, find products online, and see similar styles, identify popular plants and animals, learn about landmarks, and more.
Superior Sound Experience: This is what balance sounds like, with 2.4W audio distributed evenly for optimal stereo sound. And with your headphones on, DTS:X 3D Surround Sound lets you get lost in your movies, music, and games with audio that seems to come from all directions.
Finally, LQ wasn’t content to let mobile audio be the compromise it so often is. Instead, they built a 32Bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC and DTS: X Virtual Surround into it. The audio experience from the phone is superb.
So while the LG G8X ThinQ isn’t a top tier device, it is an impressive phone even by today’s standards and an amazing phone if you compare it to devices from just a few years ago. And while many phones, my iPhone 11 included, cost $1000 or more, this device is under $700 unlocked. (It is even less with carrier activation.) That alone makes it a decent choice if you are in the market for a new, large Android phone.

So that’s a quick look at the LG G8X ThinQ phone. It’s not exciting but, in a world where premium phones are now more than $1000, this is an excellent phone at a mintier-phone price. That alone makes it a winner in my eyes.
BUT… that is only part of the story here.
The LG G8X ThinQ Dual Screen
As Judie shared in her posts about the LG V50 and LG V60, this company is taking an unusual approach to dual-screen phones. Rather than develop a flexible screen that folds in on itself, LG decided to stick with the proven technology of large screens that don’t fold. Instead of taking a single screen and finding ways for it to fold, LG simply added a second 6.4” OLED FHD Display into the inside of a protective cover. When closed, you get the same slab phone as we described above, only double the thickness. When opened, however, the user is greeted by the 6.4” screen of the phone AND a 6.4” screen to its left. That provides double the screen-estate without the potential failures we’ve seen time and time again with folding screens. As we will see, it isn’t perfect, but it is a unique approach that solves many of the issues seen in devices with folding screens.
Interestingly, the second screen is the same display panel as the one on the phone. It even has the selfie-camera pinhole even though it lacks a camera. Moreover, the second screen is powered by the phone itself, so there is no need to charge the case separately.
Flexible Point of View: With a 360 freestop hinge, flip the screen around or lock it in place at any angle. Open it like a laptop, use it in stand or tent mode, or do a full 360° flip for a versatile viewing experience.
The Hinge:
To make this screen case work properly, LG had to design a hinge that provided maximum flexibility. The hinge on this device is loose enough to open with ease but tight enough that it will hold any position into which it is placed. That will become important when we look at some of the ways this approach can be used.
The hinge has been redesigned and now can flip all the way around to sit flush with the back of the phone. That means you can have the phone in the case but still use it as a slab phone. Yes, the case and screen make it thick, but the design means you don’t have to remove the phone every time you want to use it “normally.”
The front of the screen case is a mirrored plastic that is a fingerprint magnet. The “LG Dual Screen” logo is embossed toward the bottom but, other than that, it would seem there is nothing of interest and no functionality to this glossy surface. In this case, however, looks can be deceiving.
When the phone is one, this cover doubles as a notification display that lets you see the time, remaining battery life, and a variety of notifications. It is a great way to get a general sense of what is going on without needing to open the case and fire up the phone. (If you look closely, you can see a small slit at the top of this surface. That allows the sound from the phone’s speaker to pass through when the case is closed.)
The right side of the phone remains largely exposed, so you still have access to the power button.
The buttons on the left side are covered by a second “layer” of buttons. These work surprisingly well and, if you didn’t know better, their responsiveness would leave you thinking they were the actual buttons.
At the bottom, there is a cutout so you can access the 3.5mm headphone jack. The cutout should be large enough for most headphones, but thick plugs probably won’t work unless you have an adapter that can fit without the cutout. A second cutout leaves the phone’s speaker exposed.
Between these two cutouts is a charging area that is ready for the included Fast Charge adapter dongle.
On the plus side, this design is the magnetic connection made between the dongle and the case. When the two are brought into proximity with one another, they connect and stay connected until you pull them apart. (The other side of the dongle has a USB-C port into which a USB-C charging cable goes.) But while this approach works … I hate it. I hate that, while the magnets are strong, they can release their grip if the dongle is angled away from the phone. Worse than that, if you don’t have the dongle with you or, worse yet, lose it, you are out of luck. Fortunately, LG sells replacement dongles for the reasonable price of just $7.99. [Were this Apple, you know the same dongle would be $35.] You can still charge the phone directly via USB-C, but you will need to pull it from the case to do that. I hate this design, and I wish LG would find a way to ditch the dongle and use USB-C for charging whether the phone is in the case or not.
Instantly See Notifications: See essentials at a glance. The cover display allows you to view the time and notifications, like when messages are received, while the dual-screen is closed.
At the back of the case, there is a large cutout. It leaves the dual camera lenses and flash exposed and provides space for the G8X ThinQ logo. I don’t understand why they made this cutout as large as they did since it deserves no purpose. It is an interesting design choice but not one I would have made.
There are several ways you can use the dual screens. All of them hinge off of the “360 freest hinge.” As LG puts it, “With a 360 freestop hinge, flip the screen around or lock it in place at any angle. Open it like a laptop, use it in stand or tent mode, or do a full 360° flip for a versatile viewing experience.”
The big question is, of course, why would you want two large screens?
Dual Screen Multitasking Mode
The first way to use the dual-screen setup is to simply think about the screens as individual screens that “speak” to one another.
Tapping the small icon that sits on the side of the phone’s screen yields a “Turn on Dual screen icon.” Tapping it fires up the second screen that sits inside the case.
If you tap the same small icon now, you will be presented with several choices that include Swap Screens, Show Main on Dual Screen, Put Main Screen to Sleep, and Turn off Dual Screen.
You can also adjust the settings of the dual-screen mode by digging a bit deeper with a few taps.
You can now use the dual screens in the simplest way possible. If you open a browser on the phone’s screen, tap the small dual-screen icon and select “Swap Screens” the browser window will move over to the second screen.
This can also be done using three fingers swiped simultaneously on the screen. Now you can select a second browser window or any other app and fire it up on the phone’s screen.
That yields two independent screens that each have their specific app or browser window open. That may not sound like much, but being able to have two 6.4” displays that work independently is far more convenient than you might expect.
Surf the Web in Style: Make the most of your web browsers. Look at the webpage on one screen, and see more details on the other while reading articles, shopping, and more.
But it gets better. In the settings, you can lock which app appears on the secondary dual screen when the phone is fired up in dual screen mode. In my case, I have it set to pull up a browser window with my Gmail. Now, whenever I open up the case, my email is immediately present on the secondary screen, and I can use the phone’s display however I want.
And it gets even better. If I bring up something like the browser app and then activate the dual-screen control and select “Wide View,” the single webpage on the phone’s display is spread over both of the screens. It’s a cool trick, but the gap between the two screens that are created by the hinge doesn’t make this very practical. It does work a bit better if you switch the orientation to landscape, but it isn’t ideal.
Gamepad Mode
Control and Compete: Play for the win by using the second screen as a customizable controller, freeing up your main screen for all the action. Choose from multiple virtual controllers or design your own to match your game play needs and style.
Wanting to leverage the potential of their dual-screen approach LG, the company baked a special gamepad functionality into the LG G8X ThinQ Dual Screen. The phone ships with some built-in gamepads, but you can also create your custom gamepad if not of the stock offerings meet your needs.
The GamePad functionality doesn’t work with every game, but for those it does, you get to enjoy the entire phone display for the game graphics and can use the dual-display to control the action. I’m not much of a gamer, but I can see this functionality being a key selling point for people who use their phones in this way.
Mini Laptop Mode
On-The-Go Mini Laptop: Convert your smartphone into a mini laptop while on-the-go with the LG Smart Keyboard. Use the entire bottom display as a full-screen virtual keyboard to write emails, edit presentations, text, or search the web in full-screen on the top display.
If you pull up your email in either the email app or the browser and turn the dive into landscape position… nothing happens.
BUT, when you tap into a content field and bring up the soft keyboard, you are on the way to something unique. At the top of the soft keyboard, there is an icon that indicates two screens. Tapping, it results in the soft keyboard overlay disappearing and the entire dual-screen display turning into a keyboard.
Now you get the benefit of your entire phone’s screen being the content email screen and the entire dual display screen serving as your keyboard. Best of all, this laptop mode also works with apps like Outlook, so you aren’t locked into the stock Google apps or the browser.
Make the Most of Images Mode:
Add A Personal Touch To Images: Use the second screen to instantly view your pictures without having to exit the camera app. Try out different filters and edit on the main screen while previewing your full-size image on the dual-screen.
If you have ever taken a picture with your phone and then had to jump out of the camera app to check whether or not you captured the image you wanted, you are going to love this.
You can use the phone’s display as your image finder when shooting pictures and set it so that each new image you take immediately appears on the dual display. This lets you check each shot before taking the next. It also lets you test out various filters before going to the next shot. It is a nice convenience, but I’m not convinced it justifies the added weight and bulk of the dual-screen approach.
Dual Mirror Mode: With Mirror Mode, use the second screen to shoot from creative angles, such as over your head during a concert. Or, use the second screen as a live viewfinder to preview your selfies as you take them.
If you fire up the camera app, you will see a dual-screen icon at the upper left of the screen. Tapping it mirrors the phone’s display to the dual-screen dimply, so both displays function as the camera’s viewfinder. This allows you to use the dual-display as the camera viewfinder and get shots at angles that would otherwise be possible.
Fun, but It Still Falls Short
This dual-screen functionality is fun, and there are some neat tricks it can perform, but the design has its limitations. For example, I can watch a Netflix video on either display, but I can’t extend it to appear on both, thereby doubling the image. At the same time, since there is a thick black space between the screens, watching a video that is split in half wouldn’t be all too enjoyable. I’m sure I will find more examples of this limitation as I do more with it.
All of this is rather cool, but I’m still not quite sure if it is worth the added bulk and weight of the dual-screen case. So while I am still fascinated by LG’s approach to larger and dual screens, the thick border between the screens that are created by the hinge makes it a bit of a puzzle to me. It doesn’t double the phone’s 6.4” screen, but it does offer some unique ways to use your phone and your phone’s camera. In a world where phones feel iterative one model to the next, that’s not a terrible thing. It also doesn’t make me want to run out and get such a device. Still, at under $700 unlocked, there is a compelling argument one can make for purchasing this phone on its own. Then, if you think about the dual-screen case as a free add-on, it suddenly makes sense why someone might purchase this phone. It is a solid, large-screen performer that has a microSD expansion slot, retains the 3.5mm headphone jack, and gets good battery life. $700 for that is completely reasonable in today’s market, and the add-on accessory just makes it even more compelling. It is a phone worth checking out. Learn more here.

What I Like: Phone has a large screen and tons of power at a reasonable price; Expansion slot for microSD card; Good battery life; USB-C and Qi wireless charging available; Dual-screen case included; Hinge is solid and holds any angle or folds completely back to sit flat against the phone; Front notification display so phone doesn’t need to be opened as often
What Needs Improvement: Case requires a dongle for wired charging; Dual-screen is fun but not entirely practical, the curiosity will likely diminish over time; Dual-screen works with some but not all apps; With the case, the phone is big, bulky and heavy

Even more stuff to look at for my research report!
I give all credit for this blog post to Lynsey, she sent me an incredibly helpful email helping me with my severe lack of skill in researching <3
General
In the animated film, there is double potential for emotion - in the emotions of the characters and in the artistry of the work itself (in the writing, choice of material, design, presentation, staging, picture-making, voice acting, colour, music and animation)
Characters use ‘symbols’ to express emotion - gestures, attitudes, expressions, and timings
Looking at how actors portray a character's emotions is also useful, as they are basically trying to do the same thing but with themselves instead of drawings/models - Katharine Ommanney questions to a performer - ‘Are the characters interesting, lifelike and vivid? Do you become emotionally involved with them? Do the gestures and movements seem sincere, convincing, clear, and properly motivated? Does all of the action help to delineate the characters and their situation for you? Is the action clear-cut, prolonged sufficiently, and exaggerated enough to be seen by the whole audience?’ (Ommanney, 1932)
2D
The first example of an entire animated sequence showing real emotion was in Snow White (1937) - the dwarfs grieving over what they assumed to be Snow White’s death.
The animators wanted the audience to completely connect with the emotions of the dwarfs, but this had never been done with moving drawings.
To help, the animators tailored each reaction from the different dwarfs to fit with the personality - Grumpy went off to cry alone whilst Dopey buried his face in Doc’s shoulder.
They didn’t overcompensate - originally every dwarf had streams of tears, but it looked too theatrical and less realistic, so they stepped it down a notch to create a more believable reaction.
The dwarfs were also kept incredibly still, with only a few arm drops and sniffles here and there so that the audience had no choice but to concentrate on the emotions of the face.
In Bambi (1942) they used the gradual build-up of snow around Bambi’s mother to add to the emotion of the scene as it made the action more subtle.
Stop motion
The puppets used in stop motion films are often the most realistic to human, so it has the highest risk of falling into ‘uncanny valley’ - however because they are so realistic they can also connect with the audience the most

Figure 1

Figure 2

Figure 3
Due to the handcrafted nature of stop motion, audiences have a preemptive connection with the action
The uncanny valley can be used to create a stronger connection with the audience, like in ‘Anomalisa’
Figure 4
Figure 5
The lines kept on the puppets' faces in Anomalisa does increase the uncanny valley aspect, however, it increases the theme of the film that people aren’t how they say they are and are hiding behind masks
3D
3D animators tend to avoid the uncanny valley, as it can give the audience the wrong emotion - this is clear from the comparison of the baby from ‘Tin Toy’ and newer 3D character designs

Figure 6

Figure 7
A study by Willie Bouwer and Francois Human shows that dipping into the uncanny valley in 3D can cause repulsion from the audience
In a paper about the uncanny wall, the writer discusses how as we become more aware of the technology used to create 3D animated films, the less we are affected by it
It’s easier to get children emotionally tied to 3D animated characters as they see it as more real than an older audience does.

Conclusion
Good lord, I think this was the most formal blog post I’ve ever written that isn’t a weekly summary. I know I’m not gunna use half this stuff in my proposal, considering this was all done just for the background section BUT it’s gunna come in so unbelievably handy when I’m actually writing out this report next year. I’m honestly so proud that I’ve done this amount of research for this project and even though I feel like my brain has slowly melted out my mouth and into the mango juice that was fueling me throughout this, I’m glad I did it.

Bidyut Kapri: I am playing this for a few months…Already I have understood that it is a very suitable game for me…Also, it is a high-quality graphics game…Moreover, it has become the world’s best to me game while I have updated it…I will not tell more words than it…Finally, I will advise all of brothers, sisters, and also my senior ones to play and enjoy such a beautiful game…
Madhav Ramini: Hello. Chapter 7 is really good and awesome. It has new types of weapons and armors. Please also add new weapon in Dynasty faction. But one flaw – the game does not open after closing it the first time. It remains stuck in the “Nekki” loading screen. Please fix so that everyone can enjoy the game. Thank You.
Harsh Jindal: Hey there, First of all, I really love the game… I have been facing an issue in the game. I am on Chapter VI, Last Level, i.e The Shadow Mind I can’t wait to proceed to the new Chapter VII. But I have beaten the Shadow Mind several times and then their itself the game freezes or hangs. It is happening after the recent update, I have tried clearing the cache, and have cleared all the data once and reinstalled the game but all in vain, the problem still persists. Please do help soon…
Nafis Morshed: The storyline is LEGENDARY. The story makes me play the game. The game mechanics are kinda complex but once you get used to it, it’s easy to understand and control everything, it’s definitely good. The graphics, gameplay, and controls are very decent. The online Duel Mode is a joke by the way. The matchmaking is a joke although they keep improving it it’s still rigged. And obviously, cool gears as always. Finish Shadow Fight 2 first to get the complete taste of the story of Shadow Fight 3.
Dennis Felton: This game is a very fun experience so far. Just reached level 2. I am currently hoping that the weapons and armor do not get “godly”. A basic truly practical deadly weapon and believable armor are what make a really good game. Keep up the good work!
Jaroslaw K: It’s a real pleasure to play the game. Well developed and good graphics:) But at some point, you have no chance to progress if you don’t pay. Normal difficulty, in fact, is impassable and all chests give you everything but not what is needed. So you are stuck with PvP challenges and hope that one day you’ll pass the mission:) Business is business but that has actually put me off a bit.
Kshitiz Gupta: Excellent game… Have played all the chapters and looking forward to completing chapter 7. But there is a thing that needs to be fixed here before that happens. With the recent update, the in-menu navigation has become really slow and the game freezes for a few seconds while switching between the screens. This has never been the case with the previous versions of the game and it really makes the game unplayable. Please fix this quickly so that I can enjoy the game again as ever.
Jhazzy Music: It’s one of the best ancient fighting game. I love it more than mortal kombat for mobile. The graphics are superb.. The only thing I want that’ll make me rate it 5 star is local Multi-player!! Pls, add that in the update.. If I can play against my friend online. It’s very okay or via WiFi locally… Please I know there are a lot of people that want this too… Please work on it.. We’re waiting.
Glen Allison: Beautiful graphics, lots of equipment/fighting style choices, lots to do and the monetization is not in your face. There is a story campaign but having not played parts 1&2 I couldn’t follow it very well. One of the most impressive games on mobile ever, the animation, style, detail, and size is spectacular.
Chef Jeffrey A Kaufman: Always a classic. The Shadow Fight legend continues. This one is even better than the previous installments. Great piece of gaming from a great developer. Love it. Still paying SF2 along with this newest edition. Great games both. The only issues I have are the following. Matches are often very poorly matched. Many times you’re matched against players 500 to 900 points above you. Making it impossible. Gems are sometimes lost while picking free items. The storyline doesn’t keep up with abilities
Felix Romanov: So, the graphics are amazing and the moves are pretty good as well, though, overall, my experience was pretty much horrible. I immediately had to download a large file before I could even open the game, then I had to download ANOTHER large file, the game lagged extremely hard between fight rounds, after the third fight, I had to download something ELSE. I eventually just gave up and uninstalled. My recommendation for the devs is to maybe make all this stuff one large packet, just like Shadow fight 2, so there would be more time between downloads. Yes, this would significantly increase the base download time and update time, but altogether it would provide more streamlined gameplay. Also, maybe add a “Low Graphics” setting at the very beginning for people on devices that aren’t so good?
prasanna spidy: I love the game…. everything about it… except you cannot challenge your friends from facebook… or you know online friends… that would be really great if you could work on it. thank you.
A Google user: Shadow Fight’s evolution is going so good. At first, it came Shadow Fight in 2001. Then Shadow Fight 1 in 2011 in only Facebook. Then the Shadow Fight 2 in 2013. After that Shadow Fight 2, Special Edition came in 2017. After all, in the same year, it came the Shadow Fight 3. The most modern, beautiful game. Its gameplay is so good. Hope that the next Shadow Fight game which is Shadow Fight 4 will be more existing, more gorgeous, more in form. I can’t wait until NEKKI publishes it.
Dylan Mantell: Awesome Update, It is great to see that legendary equipment is getting a much-needed buff. On the downside, there have been a few glitches where I am fighting an opponent AI in the gold event and it freezes where both the AI and myself stand there staring at each other, as amusing as this is it makes me have to restart the progress every time it happens by surrendering.
Karlis Pupols: Thanks for updating most of the pain points. Though this update does require still a bit of tuning. Some animations feel a bit too fast to be accurate. Also fights experienced freeze with the new Qatar item. Would like to see some bigger update information, seems as many things updated aren’t documented to the players (like items in the store). Also, still really hoping we could upgrade item tiers in future so you can equip 3 abilities on a common armor. thanks, bonomi mike:
Great gameplay, awesome graphics n tonnes of weapons pretty cool but I’d have to give 3 stars due to d ascension event update literally messed my game up can’t do many duels get stuck lost lots of tickets, can’t get past chapter v sip of war coz apparently it doesn’t load d final baddie same as side quest so basically all m doing is fighting online #lame# kinda gets boring. Pls, can this b rectify m tired of downloading large update files n still having the same issue? Pls fix this nid change my rating
Mack Tariang: A 5-star game no doubt!! good graphics gameplay and storyline compared with the previous shadow fight… sadly there are still a number of bugs glitches and a duel match can sometimes be really ridiculous.. matching against opponents who are soooooo over equipped with a rating of 500..600 above your own character!! still a highly recommended game!! enjoy
Yvanny Kadima: I loved this game. it was good quality and fast loading. Until… the update. all of my armor just disappeared after tried on a new one. I’ve tried uninstalling, reloading, and even logged out but it still won’t work. Please fix it, this was my favorite game now it’s too laggy.

Tom Konkle reviews
teehee for two Placevine.com
"Invention with Brian Forbes, presented by the dynamically droll duo of David Beeler and Tom Konkle, is as dry as a Dean Martin martini (i.e. you just wave the bottle of Vermouth over the glass of gin), with a twist of Monty Python and a dash of Benny Hill, i.e., it's very, very British, in a retro sort of way. This series of short two man comedy sketches even features a 1970s sensibility in its color palate and fashions, which surely must be a deliberate tribute to its obvious source of inspiration. It's basically a "talk show" regarding a variety of topics involving intellectual ingenuity, all presented with their tongues planted so firmly in the cheeks it's amazing they don't mumble. The format - roughly described as conversational skits- is definitely an acquired taste, but if you like your humor dished up with a layer of sophisticated silliness on a platter of understated irony, you'll enjoy what the sly sort of satire they're serving."

pulling boners the hard way Placevine.com
"Safety Geeks is yet another winsome, winning comedy series from the talented twosome of David Beeler and Tom Konkle, this one an ensemble effort chronicling the exasperating exploits of the P.O.S.H. (Professional Occupational Safety Hazard) team, in both 2 and 3D! The fact that they're basically a bunch of well-meaning but hopelessly incompetent misfits is the basis for their bumbling series of moronic mishaps, which all prove quite counterproductive to their professional mission statement. The troupe's over-the-circus-top antics, which include ribald riffs and goofy gore in the spirit of Monty Python, either rub your funny the bone the right or the wrong way, but there's no denying their seemingly endless supply of inspired inventiveness."

3 "Clinks" for Invention! (Out of 3) Those Video Guys
The UK Web TV reviewers, Those Video Guys, have high praise for "fellow Brits, Dave & Tom"
"I'm laughing just thinking of them. That's how funny they are." "What a great way to spend 5 to 10 minutes just watching funny sketches." "The caliber of the cast and writing... they've worked with some of the greats. You can't deny the actual caliber of the writing and acting." "It's great to see two British comedy actors sticking to their British roots doing that kind of humor you would have expected from a Python." "They reminded me of Fry & Laurie.... it has that surrealness." "Brian Forbes, a great show and a lot of fun! Cheers to Dave & Tom!"

Procedural à la Python: On SAFETY GEEKS: SVI – The WEB TV Movie Web to Watch
"It definitely exemplifies Dave & Tom’s credo: “silly comedy for smart people.” "All the actors do a really good job. Their performances are quirky and consistent. So much delicious awkwardness." "a unique environment. It lent its self to humor you normally only see in animated shows." "...most laughs came from non-sequiturs and witty one-liners, of which there are many." "Verdict: In the spirit of the show, it gave me a comedic erection. One that lasted over 8 hours."

Invention With Brian Forbes 93Studios Screening Room - Steve Spaulding
Bottom Line: The Internet is filled with sketch comedy, some of it good, most of it pretty painful, but rarely do you see a show that hearkens back to the best of Flying Circus while still managing to stay relevant. Invention with Brian Forbes is a dry, acid-tongued sketch web series that will leave you laughing from minute one.
Great writing, awkward pauses and strong acting ties Invention together making it a treat to watch.

Webisode Clack - Safety Geeks: SVI Clique Clack - Brett Love
"The creators have described the show as “a nice mix of surreal Adult Swim humor with a Monty Python take on CSI, Missing, Without a Trace, NCIS etc..” While I hesitate to compare anyone to Monty Python, because they are legends, that description is well stated. The show is very funny, full of one-liners, and often flying off the rails into the completely absurd. If you’re an Adult Swim or Monty Python person, it should be right in your wheelhouse."
"The actions of the team range from odd, to stupid, all with huge helpings of cheese. And I mean that in the best possible way. It’s all great fun to watch."
"That cheesiness also extends to the look of the show. Clearly a lot of time and effort has gone into the effects used, and they take on a quality that I would call fantastically bad. That’s not bad in the sense of not being good. It’s bad in the sense that many of the effects are so cheesy that they are almost as absurd as the story we’re watching. To that end, they fit perfectly, and just add to the experience."

Safety Geeks: SVI 93Studios Screening Room - Steve Spaulding
"Raunchy, wacky and filled up to the brim with one-liners, Safety Geeks SVI is an object lesson in High Camp and a real must-watch for anyone who likes their comedy with a great, big dollop of outrageousness."
"Safety Geeks SVI has some of the best special effects I’ve seen in a web series."
"All in all, this is a show that deserves your attention. It’s timing, sense of humor and overall feel put it on the list of top tier web comedies."

Safety Geeks: SVI VisioWeb.tv - Alec Corday "...mainstream appeal with its one-liners, non-sequiturs and black humor." "Much of the humor derives not so much from safety and lack thereof but from the wacky characters played by seasoned actors all around." "hilarious... a lot of fun...." "Very much noteworthy is also the execution of the show."

Invention with Brian Forbes VisioWeb.tv - Alec Corday
"...outrageous inventions that will leave you ROFLing..." "...inventions so out to lunch, they could only have come from the brilliant minds of two Anglophiles, Dave & Tom." "The acting is superb and the simplicity of the settings rely solely on the writing… no fancy sets or props. It’s the jokes and the actors who carry it along. And it works. We’re dealing with professionals and there is no questioning that."

Webseries: Invention with Brian Forbes Pink Raygun - Melissa Voelker
"...hilariously loony ...consistently funny" "This series is very well written." "The two leads play off each other very well and together they make a great comedy duo. It was really easy to watch each webisode back to back and not lose interest. And I continued laughing until the very end, which proves that this show handles its simple but funny concept really well."

Safety Geeks: SVI - Entertainment Review MyNerdGirl.com>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> - Sidney Cozzaglio
"It's witty and mindless all at once."
"I would say this show was definitely made by fans of the likes of Monty Python, Shawn of the Dead, and Robot Chicken."
"It is silly. I can think of no better word to describe it. The 'over the top' situations and characters poke fun at shows like CSI and, I think, The A Team and the archetypes we find in modern crime dramas. This show is the sort of thing that Blake Edwards and Maurice Richlin did in the 60's and 70's (with) Peter Sellers in the Pink Panther movies."
I have to agree with their flier. If you like shows like Flying Circus, Fawlty Towers, or even Spaced, and movies like Blazing Saddles and National Lampoon's European Vacation you will likely enjoy this web show."

Evaluation
15/11/2017
During this uni I mainly did four projects. Three of them are one week projects, the other is four weeks project. I feel this is a really busy uni, we did so many stuffs. I think I really need to manage time carefully and do the plan for everything. Overall, I am quite happy with what I did, but there are still something I can develop more.
Series & Systems
In this project I worked in a four people group. We need to document data in one hour between 6pm to 7pm then do four posters. Our group chose to document sounds in house, library, town, and party, then present them in sound wave. Our initial idea is show the four different sound wave in gradient color and overlap together. Finally we can print these four posters on transparency paper. I focused one the infographic and gradient color posters in research. The books which Rich recommended in uni hand book are very helpful. I also searched some posters which has simple style of design, but looks very powerful.
During the whole project, our group kept to communicate. We all have different ideas which is really nice. The difficult thing is how to combine these ideas together. I think communication is very important. We decided our finally idea a little bit late, I think we should make decision quicker with more communication. Overall, I think our final outcome is good. But if we have more time, I would like to consider more about how to present our information. Such as adding more content in poster. Also finally we printed posters on tracing paper, but it does not work very well. I need to think about how to present it more.
Moving Brands
In this project, I worked in a two people group. We made two bumpers about Natural History Museum. At first we did several story boards by ourselves, then we discussed them. Finally we chose the idea from Conner, which is turning the ‘N’ in natural history museum logo as a door, then something come out, to show a range of knowledge and stuffs in museum. My initial idea is turning ‘N’ from original logo to a wooden door, then some plants and flower come out like a flood. However, I think this idea is hard to achieve in one week, because I need to draw everything. My finally I idea is turning 'N’ to door, then a lot of colorful lines come out, which present the knowledge and stuffs in natural history museum. I searched some google bumpers, which are really helpful for my idea. The after effects tutorial is very useful, I applied the skills which I learned from here in my bumper.
I think the two bumpers we did has the same idea, but the style is quite different. I feel we need more communication during the time which we were making the bumper.
Spacial Communication
This project is quite different with what we usually do. I worked in a five people group, I think we cooperate very well. We got two words which are park and dictate to work with. We need to present ‘dictate’ in park. We discussed a lot of ideas. Our initial idea is making 3D typeface for STOP, LOOK, HERE. We want to make them as a big size, and place them in a order at park. When people notice them, they are actually doing these dictate. However, this idea dose not have meaning behind it, they can only be a beautiful decoration in park. Finally we chose to make some fake signs and place them in park to see people’s attention. I think sign is the most athouritive thing in park, which can present dictate very well. We made Slippery Grass, No Walking, Step Out of Order and Dogs Only. We put them in Dean Park, which near the town centre, and documented reaction from people. We got some interesting results.
I think the whole process is good, the signs we made were professional. The Step out of Order and No Walking worked very well. However, Slippery Grass and Dogs Only did not work. I think the reason might be that these two signs are hard to get people’s reaction, and we did not put them at a suitable place. We also need to mark the area for them. If we have more time, we might think another signs or develop these two more.
Exhibition
This is a four week project. I chose threats as my main topic to work with. Finally I chose addiction as my exhibition theme. At first I was thinking about drug abuse, and under it I can develop some small parts, such as alcohol, drug and tobacco. I discussed my idea in tutorial, Rich and Laura suggested me to work with addiction which is more interesting. The process to decide title of exhibition is quite hard this time. My initial idea is Illusion, but it is a little bit far away with my topic. Finally with the help with Rich I chose addiction as my title, which is strait and clear. For the research, I watched two documentary about drug abuse. I think this is a serious problem nowadays. I also searched some artists for my exhibition content. For the research of identity, I focused on the design which is simple but powerful. I also want to archive this in my project. I found a really nice design studio called Everyday Practice, which inspired me a lot. I also went to the White Cube and Store Studio in London for the exhibition research. I think it is important to actually go to an exhibition by myself. In the end, I made one pamphlet and three posters as a set for my exhibition, also the logo, space promotion and way finding. The consistent is what I needed to consider in the whole project.
I am quite happy with the final work I did. But if I have more time, I would like to work more with the way finding. I think I can make something instead of the arrow. I hope in the future I can get a title of work more quickly.
Process Book
This is the first time I made a process book. I am happy with the final book I did. I did the screen printing for the book waist and ending paper. The book is totally hand bond. I feel I can start to layout the content earlier, and manage my time better. There are still some small mistake in the book. And I think I can add a catalog at the beginning of book, and consider more about the layout.

Devastated By Future Policy Changes? You Could Have 'Pre-Traumatic Stress'
//<![CDATA[ function onPlayerReadyVidible(e){'undefined'!=typeof HPTrack&&HPTrack.Vid.Vidible_track(e)}!function(e,i){if(e.vdb_Player){if('object'==typeof commercial_video){var a='',o='m.fwsitesection='+commercial_video.site_and_category;if(a+=o,commercial_video['package']){var c='&m.fwkeyvalues=sponsorship%3D'+commercial_video['package'];a+=c}e.setAttribute('vdb_params',a)}i(e.vdb_Player)}else{var t=arguments.callee;setTimeout(function(){t(e,i)},0)}}(document.getElementById('vidible_1'),onPlayerReadyVidible); //]]>
As politicians continue to debate the realities of climate change and the merits of future military action, some people are already experiencing the fallout – in the form of what’s being called pre-traumatic stress reactions.
It’s a phenomenon you won’t find in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, or DSM-V, but some psychologists are employing it in reference to the experiences of activists working on the front lines of climate change or human rights issues or soldiers facing deployment into possible combat situations. The symptoms are similar to post-traumatic stress disorder (including grief, sadness, worry, disturbing intrusive thoughts, sleep troubles and nightmares, and avoiding situations or activities that are reminiscent of the stressful event) but in this case, they stem from anticipatory anxiety about an event that may occur in the future.
In 2006, the irreverent publication The Onion published a satirical article about an increasing number of U.S. soldiers suffering from pre-traumatic stress disorder – a fictitious syndrome involving involuntary, intrusive images and flash-forwards of violent, haunting events the soldiers could experience during their future deployment. While the article was made up, here’s the irony: Some mental health experts say that pre-traumatic stress symptoms are no longer the stuff of fiction or satire because they see it among real people.
[See: Apps to Mind Your Mental Health.]
“We’re hearing an Armageddon message every day,” says Dr. Lise Van Susteren, a psychiatrist in the District of Columbia and a member of the advisory board for the Center for Health and the Global Environment at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. “When you read the headlines about mass extinction and climate issues that are exacerbating [world] states that are already fragile, it’s very difficult. People start wondering: Where are we going to be safe? Who’s going to take care of us? This can lead to anger, despair and paralysis, an inability to do things or a freezing out of emotions.”
Fearing the Future
While research on this phenomenon is sparse, there is some evidence it exists. To test the proposition, researchers from Duke University and Aarhus University in Denmark developed the Pre-traumatic Stress Reactions Checklist, a roster of potential pre-traumatic symptoms based on the 17 official symptoms of PTSD from the DSM-IV. But in this case, researchers tweaked some of the phrasing to reflect the possibility of pre-experiencing these symptoms and avoiding reminders of potentially traumatic events that might occur in the future. In a 2015 study, these researchers used the PreCL and the PTSD Checklist to measure levels of pre-traumatic and post-traumatic stress in 218 Danish soldiers before, during and after deployment to Afghanistan. Not only did the same intrusive, disturbing PTSD symptoms show up before the soldiers were deployed, but the researchers found that pre-traumatic stress reactions before deployment reliably predicted PTSD symptoms during and after deployment.
Similarly, a study in the June 2011 issue of the Journal of Psychiatric Research found that when urban police officers were exposed to a video depicting police-related scenes – such as a suicide, a homicide, an officer being hit by a car and an officer being killed by a bomb – as part of their academy training, those who had higher saliva levels of MHPG (a waste product produced when the hormone norepinephrine is metabolized), a measure of their stress response, were more likely to have PTSD 12 months after starting active duty.

To some extent, this effect comes with being realistic about what soldiers or police officers might encounter in action. Soldiers have been trained to imagine possible future events that could be deeply disturbing “because they are going to be walking down the road and a roadside bomb could go off,” says David C. Rubin, a professor of psychology and neuroscience at Duke University and Aarhus University. “Danish soldiers have to write letters to people that will be opened only if they don’t come back.”
Van Susteren says she sees similar symptoms among activists as they contemplate and prepare for the possible effects of climate change and natural disasters, as well as among citizens who fear for the country’s future given the current political climate. Pre-traumatic stress “results from reading the headlines and connecting the dots, imagining people being hurt and not surviving,” she explains. “It’s just like any other stress, but it’s exacerbated by a feeling of powerlessness. Chronic stress sends messages to your brain that you’re not safe, and when stress hormones [continuously] soar, that’s a health issue.”
“It’s good to be prepared, but this reaction is going too far because it paralyzes you, it adversely affects your life, and you don’t know what to do to get out of it,” Rubin says. If you’re anxious by nature or you have a tendency to worry intensely, you may be especially susceptible to pre-traumatic stress, he adds. “Some of it is perfectly understandable. People are worried about the future and they should be” given the state of the world.
What’s in a Name?
Even so, some mental health experts question the validity of pre-traumatic stress syndrome as a concept. “PTSD involves a specific set of psychological and physiological reactions that people have in response to a trauma or catastrophic event – including a fight-flight-freeze reflex,” says Steven N. Gold, a professor of psychology and director of the trauma resolution and integration program at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. “It’s hard to imagine how that reflex would be set off by thinking about the possibility of a future event.”
Nevertheless, Gold adds, “it’s certainly conceivable that someone facing combat or another life-threatening situation might experience anticipatory anxiety. Whether that takes the form of the whole range of symptoms that comprises PTSD is another issue.”
By any name or degree, these stress-related symptoms can have profound effects on a person’s well-being and quality of life, which is why it’s smart to address them. Practicing Transcendental Meditation can help calm your mind by increasing levels of the feel-good transmitter serotonin and increasing alpha waves in the brain, Van Susteren adds. Taking good care of yourself by getting enough sleep, eating the right foods and exercising regularly can also help mitigate some of the effects.

With any anticipated form of stress or trauma, it also helps to talk to other people who are currently grappling with similar issues or who have in the past “so you don’t feel alone,” Van Susteren says. “When you’re an outlier and everybody else is clueless or detached, it can be very alienating.” Talking to people who’ve gone through similar military or activism experiences can also be educational if you find out what the hazards and stumbling blocks are, how to pace yourself and take appropriate breaks, and what else you can do to prepare yourself. “It’s like the difference between being sucker punched versus knowing a punch is coming,” Van Susteren says.
It also helps to take constructive action on the issue making you feel stressed, Van Susteren says. If you’re worried about climate change, you might calculate your carbon footprint and take steps to reduce or offset it – perhaps by walking or riding a bike on errands instead of driving, insulating your home, buying energy efficient appliances or locally grown produce instead of imported. If you’re alarmed about the refugee crisis or civil rights issues, you could volunteer for a non profit dedicated to effecting positive change. “You’ll be taking all the energy that goes into feeling vulnerable and turning it into constructive action, ” Van Susteren says.
