Robin looked up at the sky and sipped her drink. The rest of the party was inside celebrating another successful defeat over Vecna and the Upside Down, but Robin's hand wouldn't stop shaking.

She almost lost her best friend because the doofus was self-sacrificing and put everyone else's safety over his own, and she had almost lost Nancy.

Robin could still hear Steve screaming at Nancy to wake up and remembers passing him the player with the mixtape already loaded in. She remembers feeling hopeless as this girl that she had started to get to know better and, okay, yea, maybe fall a little in love with, was under Vecna's control.

Thank god the rest of them had appeared when they had. Thank god, El had faced Vecna and won. Thank god, that everyone was getting their happy ending. She pursed her lips and took another sip. Everyone except her, of course. Because the lesbian never got a happy ending, right?

Before she could fall too far down that spiral, the door behind her opened and footsteps stopped just behind her.

"I'll be back in just a minute, Steve." She called, not even bothering to turn around. When the footsteps didn't move away, she turned and looked up. "Seriously, people are starting to think we're co-dependent or some bullsh-" She cut herself off as Nancy walked around and sat next to her.

It's quiet for a bit. Nancy stares at the moon, and Robin tries to regulate her breathing so that it seemed normal. "W-where's Jonathan? Did you get everything worked out with him?"

Nancy smiled a small smile and shook her head. Robin had almost been expecting that. "I get it.. So, Steve's your guy, huh?"

At this Nancy scoffed and rolled her eyes. Then, before Robin could react or say anything, Nancy leaned in and kissed her. It was soft and sweet and tentative, but as soon as Robin's brain began working again and she started kissing back, it became rougher, more passionate.

They broke away panting, and Robin noticed that Nancy wouldn't meet her eyes. "I'm sorry. It's just, I thought you were... Nevermind." Nancy stood up, but Robin scrambled up after her and grabbed her wrist before she could go back inside.

"No, no. That was great and everything, and I would really like to do that again, but I guess I'm just confused. I thought you and Steve..."

Nancy snorted. "I think it's more like Steve and Jonathan, actually." And oh. Ohhhh. That actually made so much sense. In her mind, she high-fived Steve for going after what he wanted. Then, her mind finally processed what had happened.

"Wait, so you... like me? Like like me? How is that even possible? You're Nancy Wheeler, and I'm just-" Nancy cut her off by kissing her again. Hard. "Okay, okay, I got the message. You're Nancy Wheeler, and I am shutting up now."

They stayed out there kissing for a while before Steve and Jonathan poked their heads out to make sure they were okay. As they all shuffled back into the house, Robin looked back up at the moon and smiled.

Then she grasped Nancy's hand and dragged her back into the party. She had to tell Steve all about this.

Reminded again, as I periodically am, that there's a fair number of people in the fandom that think of Nott the Brave and Veth Brenatto as two different characters, and not fundamentally the same woman. In the absolute literal sense, this is false: Nott the Brave, returned to the body of her choice and using her real name once again, is absolutely precisely the same person she was before Caleb cast Transmogrification on her. This is, incidentally, one of her main sources of angst towards the end of the campaign! A part of Nott must have both feared (and, in some ways, hoped) that when she was changed back into a halfling, she would also be a different person. That the person she became traveling with the Nein would be an easy identity to shed, which she may have hoped for because it would be easier to fit herself back into her home life with Yeza and Luc--and because it would be easier to say goodbye to the Nein if that were the case. And she feared it because she liked this person she became, no matter how transgressive society would label her for it. And she loved the Nein and didn't want those feelings to be altered.

But she didn't change. Veth Brenatto is Nott the Brave and Nott the Brave is Veth Brenatto. This was always the point. That's why it's an anagram. It's just that when she's Veth Brenatto again, she is much more focused on the why of what she's doing. Why am I still with the Nein? Why am I still adventuring? Why do I have this reticence to return home to my family? Why don't I long for that quiet, domestic life the way I once did? Her emotional journey becomes intensely personal, sometimes subtly/quietly told, and wholly about what kind of future she wants for herself and how her choice could affect those around her. Her two families become anchor points pulling her in different directions and she has to deal with that. Which is a different story than what she was telling when she was still Nott the Brave. Nott's story was much simpler--I am a goblin and I hate it and I would like to be a halfling again. I would like to be able to be with my family again. It's straightforward and it's achieved! But that's not where it ends, because she still needs to figure out a real, functional future for herself once her goal has been achieved.

All this to say, I think when people say they prefer Nott over Veth, it's important to remember that you are reacting to a certain story arc for the character, not an entirely different character. It may also pay to ask yourselves why you think they're so different. Was "Nott" funnier than "Veth" to you? Does her ability to serve as comic relief fundamentally change whether you like her or not? Did you appreciate "Nott's" themes more than "Veth's"? Or did you even notice the themes being explored in Veth's later game at all?

Any headcanons or AU style things with Weiss

Weiss is one of my fav lil goobers, but I realize I haven’t really sat down and thought much about her character. My brain just turns off when I see her it's just 'mm yes is Weiss :)'

Anyways, I gave it a go. If there’s anything specific you’d like to know (shipping/character relationships/her take on canon events) just ask me further. Enjoy my ramblings:

The eyelid of Weiss’ scarred eye is damaged, permanently drooping

She’s the queen of puppy dog eyes

I like to think she takes after Willow a lot. There’s a lot of shared personality, characteristics, even looks between them. She’s a mama’s girl and Willow’s ‘favorite’

Weiss is forever cold, always liking to bundle up in some aspect. If anyone warm is around, you can usually find her snuggled up with them

I'll ship Weiss with a lot of the main gorlies. Big fan of polypiles

I feel like she wears red because of her grandfather, keeping his colors around as a reminder, but eventually she also associates the color with Ruby. Seeing her as a leader and partner to look up to and rely on

She is so easy to read. There is no hiding how she’s feeling

I like to think she hates wearing heels, but damn if she wont continue just to keep the slight height she can afford

She likes to pet Blake and Vel's ears sometimes. Soft, warm, it's chill. (This comes from the anthology manga)

Expanding on that, I also think Weiss is now rather anxious/paranoid about Cinder the way she keeps being targeted by her. Sudden fire startles her and Weiss refuses to split off on her own if on missions or anything open like that

Weiss eventually surpasses Yang in humor but it's cause of her dry wit, never the puns

Post Atlas, her and Winter are on more equal terms. Her sister's been knocked down the pedestal some in her eyes, but she still holds respect for her all the same. She can just act more casual with her like she does with team rwby

Weiss knows a lot of 'cultured' skills because of her privileged upbringing such as chess, orchestral instruments, dancing, sports like tennis and badminton, even cooking, but the one thing she could never manage was baking and it haunts her cause all she wants to do is make a yummy batch of cookies for Ruby 🍪

Weiss prefers coffee as her hot drink of choice, but she makes attempts to drink Blake's favorite teas so they can bond over that
