Alright, I'm gonna assume I don't understand this because I am almost definitely some flavour of neurospicy, but can anyone explain why people pull out the "anyone would be lucky to have you/hang out with you/have sex with you etc." thing when they're rejecting someone? Because like, it's blatantly a lie, because if you genuinely believe anyone would be lucky, that would include you, and you would want it. Like I get if you're already in a monogamous relationship so you're rejecting someone's advances, or if you're reassuring an online long-distance friend that there are people who would want to hang out with them in person (you just can't), or if you're gay and you're rejecting someone of a different gender or whatevs, but for normal rejection that basically boils down to "I don't want to I just don't want to tell you the reasons in case they hurt your feelings" why try (and fail) to soften the blow with a blatant lie? When someone pulls that line on me I immediately know that there is something about me that they don't like, and I'd rather just know what it is for future reference or to try and fix it if it's to do with being a shitty person or something, especially since I struggle with friendships and stuff as is.

Do people who use that line just not realise that it's obvious that they're lying and genuinely think they're helping? Someone explaaaaaaaain

I know it's been done to death but I will never get tired of aliens struggling with human emoting and body language. It's never consistent, two humans can be raised in the same household by the same people and still use wildly different expressions when reacting, it's impossible to create any kind of guide for those unfamiliar with humanity.

I'm just imagining a flustered alien courting their human crewmate, doing what can only be described as drowning you with praise and compliments because they can't figure out what all the eye contact and mouth shapes you do mean. So uh, look. I’m not a huge fan of Neil Gaiman as a person, mostly due to some things he’s said, done, or not done in the past (still enjoyed plenty of his books and a big fan of Good Omens with Terry.) but some of the shit people online are saying to him are mildly-to-extremely inappropriate and you need to reset some boundaries on yourselves. Take this from someone who was mildly popular in a fandom for a while there. It can be genuinely scary to receive threatening messages out of the blue from a complete fucking stranger. Especially when you have no point of reference about what they’re threatening you about, if it’s even a joke, etc.

Just because he’s made himself accessible to fans does not mean you can treat him like your Tumblr bestie with violent, threatening inside jokes. He’s not your buddy. You can’t lol your way out of sending threatening messages to a stranger. This is literally the reason your past faves stopped interacting with fans online. (Trust me, I was in the Marvel fandom when Loki/Tom arrived.) This will end as it usually does, with him being forced to leave online spaces and become inaccessible again. And then y’all will bitch and whine that he thinks he’s ‘too good’ for you or whatever and the cycle starts all over again with someone else famous.

Please. Please just learn to fucking behave. Be a weird (affectionate) and violent gremlin in your personal blog spaces or discord or wtfever. Don’t send it to a public figure just trying to have a good time in the fandom. Ok? Can we try to be better this time?

I hate when I’ll be complaining about some stupid bullshit a coworker does to other coworkers and half the time their response is to lower their voice and go “well…. You know…. I’m pretty sure they’re… on the spectrum, you know?” And every time I have a split second when I have to consider saying “you know I’m autistic, right?” just to make them vaguely uncomfortable for a few minutes and actually think about what they’re implying but of course I do not do that because the gratification is not worth a large sect of shitty coworkers knowing that about me and then talking about me like that every time I do something vaguely annoying or dumb but man….
