As a disabled woman I want to talk about the word parasite when it comes to people. It does actually feel a little triggering for me.

I know people do not like the royal family, and honestly I can see it, but I wish people would call them literally anything else other word than parasite. I'm sure you can get colourful.

I have been dehumanised, and called a parasite. Anyone who has needed support from the state probably has too. It's a word that is used to demonise us to justify the cruelty we face. Especially when those in power want to cut the support we get, which honestly we just want to live.

In the UK it's honestly so hard dealing with the system, I have developed new anxieties and mental health issues sololy from this. You are gaslighted, and interageted to decide whether you deserve to live. Which is also a lottery, because they have to turn down a certain number of people in a day.

We don't want to be greedy, we just want to live as much of a normal life as possible, just we need help. And honestly we have value because we are people. We are not parasites. But people think we are taking from them, when in reality anyone can end up disabled at any time. It's why an insurance based system is important that covers you should it happen to you.

And historically, we're not the only ones who have been dehumanised and demonised in this way. The Nazi's were pretty big on this word. I just want it to not be okay to refer to any kind of person as a parasite.

Since it's a slippery slope. Like if the royal family are parasites for using tax payers money, it's easy to call us the same. I know we use a lot less, but they group us together and talk about how much we are costing the tax payers. And how reducing that bill could help the country with other things.

Book List Time!!!

And with that I have 10 give or take books to discuss. Now I’m up to over 30 books since May woooo telling tumblr about each one has been a great motivator so I hope my reviews and list help people out in a non spoiler fun way. Gonna rank these in order I want to reread them.

1. Green Creek the series by TJ Klune 🏳️‍🌈🐺🌶️🌲 Wolfsong Ravensong Heartsong Brothersong I am obsessed. Literally read all four books in 3 days. I have bought physical copies and marked them up. Will make you cry, laugh, and stay in your heart forever. Just……. Go read it. But the quick synopsis is Powerful Humans Wolves Witches have to pay for the sins of their fathers over and over again while maintaining their found family and finding their true soulmates. There is Ace Lesbian non binary rep in here as well.

2. The Warden by Daniel Ford🏳️‍🌈 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩🧙‍♀️❄️🪦truly a fantasy masterpiece the romance isn’t the focus but it’s fucking good. First sapphic book to get a 10/10 for me. About a witch(with a magic system that is interesting surprising) growing up and finding herself a family without sacrificing who she is. I loved her and at first you think ehhh is this going to be boring no definitely not. Was surprising made me laugh and cry. Can’t wait for part 2 cause more of the hot gf in there I hope.

3. A Taste of Gold and Iron by Alexandra Rowland🏳️‍🌈👑⚔️🌶️🌶️ I listened to this book two times in a row I enjoyed it so much. It’s a bodyguard and prince story. The prince’s depiction of depression anxiety panic attacks was so real. The bodyguard is very endearing. The themes of family are strong and interesting. The mystery was easy to solve but I found it rewarding because I wanted the prince to win so badly haha.

4. Spindle Splintered by Alix E Harrow🏳️‍🌈👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩👸🏼🥀😢

Short story about a dying girl who has a special interest in sleeping beauty. It does have a…. Debatably Sad ending. I did enjoy it for what it was trying to talk about. I lost a friend when she was too young. I’m glad I read it.

5. Scumbag Villains Self-Saving System series by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu 🏳️‍🌈🚩⚔️😈🕊️🤓🌶️? I’m putting it up this high because besides that scene in chapter 21 that slapped me in the brain I really enjoyed the series. Only Danmei I HAD TO GET THE REST OF THE SERIES IMMEDIATELY Hell I’ve even now written fan fic for the side ship. About a Nerd being put into his favorite love to hate stallion novel (story about a hero who fucks his way to success) but he’s in there as the abusive villain who the hero is destined to kill. The nerd has to save himself and unintentionally builds himself a harem featuring the most red flag the hero who so sololy motivated by the nerd. It’s great easy to read very fun. But 🌶️ scene in book 3 is a definite skip and delete from memory.

6. Case File Compendium Vol 1 by Rou Bao Bu Chi Rou 🏳️‍🌈? 😈🚩🩸🕵️🥼

I did just finish reading this so maybe I’m bias but I really did find it a book I couldn’t put down. I even brought it with me to work to read a chapter during my lunch breaks. Main characters are heavy in their homophobic lifestyles but they kiss and protect each other? True crime and mentally ill characters. MC is has a fatal mental illness that makes him unstable and MIL was his former private doctor. MC is trying to date MIL’s little sister. While getting up to shenanigans they stumble into a corrupt hospital and evil forces are maybe after them?! Idk its exciting fun to read but only if you like 🚩’s

7. The Disabled Tyrant’s Beloved Pet Fish Vol 1 by Xue Shan Fei Hu 🏳️‍🌈🐟👑🎨🖼️ I did genuinely laugh my ass off during reading this book. It was incredibly easy to read I think I finished it in 4 hours. Very cute. I love the inside and outside art. About a nonverbal Prince who has anger issues and his crush on the modern man who is trapped within an ugly little fish. Now yes the Prince is becomes actively in love with the fish. Lucky for us we are stuck in the man who is trapped as the fish’s pov and he is genuinely just trying to get back to his world by obeying the powers that be System’s prompts to go home. Fish is not trying to seduce the Prince or anything. It’s just funny I had a great time with vol 1 probably will read vol 2.

8. So Let Them Burn by Kamilah Cole 🏳️‍🌈👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩👩‍❤️‍💋‍👨🐉🏝️ while having dragons and diverse cast it ultimately falls short of expectations wishing for more depth and clarity. The asexual spectrum representation feels muddled and Jamaican inspired cultural elements are unexplored which is at odds with its rich backdrop that could have enhanced the story. The story’s mystery element lacked cohesion resulting in a frustrating bittersweet ending that suggests a sequel and left me unsatisfied. I won’t read the next book. Won’t suggest it.

9. Faithless Book2 by C L Clark 🏳️‍🌈🚩👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩⚔️👑😩 a big let down from book 1 but I’m locked in for life I guess. Luca is back in France navigating a way to get the crown. While Touraine shows up with a priest and Teen to some how get food for her people. Most of the plot feels useless both MC characters are stupid and do no growing. The new teen character was interesting. I disliked the poly romance I didn’t particularly feel comfortable about Touraine and Luca why not add another person in what could go wrong? Luca’s reign as Queen looks to be very bad and you will feel extremely disappointed at the end. I’m going to read the next book but only because I like the characters who didn’t go to France.

10. Self-Made Boys by Anna-Marie McLemore.

I read 90% of this book and I regret it. It’s a trans characters as the leads gay retelling of the great gatsby. I was truly excited to read it I’ve read The Great Gatsby many times. However this book just laughs at the source material. I’m tempted to say maybe the Chat GPT’d the plot and didn’t ask for any over arching themes in the book. I couldn’t do it I’m gonna have to find a better trans representation book in my next set of ten.

13 for behind the scenes…sorta? I’m not sure if its my absolute favorite dialogue (would have to reread the whole thing) but the scene on the way to Cleff where Link and Endeavor have a mature, adult conversation about the events of the Soul temple boss fight stuck with me. I thought it was excellently written! Kinda curious how you went about that.

Thank you for the ask @hummbirds! Oh, this scene was tough. I'm gonna put the prompt and then a read more because obviously very late game spoilers. And I honestly couldn't think of a single line of dialogue either with how massive GoS is as my own favorite, so I appreciate you sending me yours! (also the compliment on it, thank you!)

13. My favorite line of dialogue from this fic was Goddess of Secrecy. What inspired it?

So around the time I started writing this section of GoS (chiefly the boss fight of the Soul Temple), my mom and her brothers began discussion about their mother and her moving into assisted living. I ended up, as the eldest kid often does, an ear for my mom as she was working through this. And this is a conversation happening states away from me, and biased by the person I was hearing it from, but a lot of the early discussion on that got put on my mom because one of my uncles had been handling it sololy until then and the other was not ready for the conversation. So she ended up getting a lot of that conversation alone.

The situation with Endeavor in the Soul Temple to me was a parallel to a child having to face the end of life care for a parent. As far as Endeavor knows, Zeal is terminally ill. There is no cure, she is possessed at this point by Ganondorf (adding on the debate of how much the actions she's taken since that possession are her own/her responsibility). And without any support on the matter, Endeavor has to make the decision whether or not to pull that plug, effectively.

Respectively, Link is in GoS an orphan and the Hero. It is diametrically opposed to his identity to let Zeal die, particularly knowing she was possessed and seeing the shard of the mirror she sent to become the mirror he used to get there (to him, a cry for help). He already has Nazirah's death on his hands (in his opinion) and he will not let Endeavor become an orphan like him because he cares about them as his friend.

Both of these are good motives. But Link's course of action fundamentally overrides Endeavor's decision about their parent on a decision they had grieved on and made their best peace with in the middle of, well, everything else. As they said in the chapter.

It is also meant to reflect on what Soul is as an element in GoS. Soul magic, for the sake of brevity, most closely equates to 5e's enchantment magic. Which is the magic used for possession. A lot of people, very rightly, have started looking at spells like Charm Person and Command as being, you know, maybe not very good things to know and very easy to abuse in a consent kind of conversation.

But the thing about powers/magic is that you can find a way to use them that's within a healthy boundary. Princess (the Sage for clarity) uses her Soul magic for boons and inspiration, and, notably, she doesn't use it on Endeavor after Endeavor says not to (which is what circles back in that final fight). By contrast, the magic that Zeal uses as the Soul Sage (going back to the Sayyida boss fight as an example) and that was used on her is a magic of possession.

And also, that Link technically used on Zeal, even with good intentions and even if Zeal allowed the possession to happen.

The conversation on the way to Cleff is meant to highlight a couple things. One, Link's still effectively a kid. At this point in GoS he's 18 but he's an 18 year old tasked with saving the world. Kinda a tall order. Which leads into the second point, good people make mistakes too. The thing that makes them good people is how they respond to that. Link acknowledges his mistake because he is a good person. Not to be mundane about that portion, but that's just who Link is. He's the Hero, he's a good person, he's supposed to reflect a good person.

Look, I have a lot of kids who read my fics. I don't want to get too preachy with my stuff, but particularly since I have a lot of young boys reading my work, I want them to have good examples of doing the right thing. Particularly from a character they're also probably looking at as a Hero and role model. And owning up to doing the wrong thing even if you meant well is part of that.

And thank you again for the ask. This was a scene I was really worried about landing and it means a lot to hear it did.

I’m curious to know about the production behind that song, was it something recorded sololy or with the rest of the band, considering its more electronic sound? I wasn't super into the vocal (not so bad, but kind of rushed) and it seemed like we had more than enough tracks, so I held it back in the off chance that I could readdress it again later in perhaps a more presentable form. Sooah doesn’t have a younger brother biologically, but let me tell you Eden is very similar to one. He encompases the entire meaning of a younger brother, if he wants something you can bet he’s going to Sooah and give some type of aegyo to get it. And you can also bet she’s going to throw something at him because she hates it but ultimately give him what he wants or take him where he wanted to go because she loves him. There has been times where she has to talk him into taking breaks so he doesn’t overwork himself. He honestly loves her to death and talks about her all the time whether it be to his other members, on VLIVE, or to other friends. 

TORI // VICTORIA YOO / YOO CHANHEE:

Where ever Sooah goes, you’ll most likely see Tori close by. If she’s feeling upset of pissed off, Tori immediately goes to Sooah as she finds her to be her calming place. Soonah finds her charming and cute but won’t tell her that lmao. The two are often seen joking around when they’re in public regardless of where they’re at. They once got scolded by staff members at an award show and since then they get seating apart from each other but always find eachother. 

SAGE // MARCUS KWON / KWON JAESUNG:

98′ liner friends !! Not the closest pairing of friends but they’ll hang out every once in a while when their schedules line up. It took some courage for him to approach her at first since she was always with at least 4 members of Seventeen. They were both attending an award show and he once offered his jacket to lay over her legs as their tables were next to each other. Honestly, both fandoms want more interactions between the two of them. 

JIWON // ERIC LEE / LEE JIWON:

Sooah met Jiwon through Jinsung. The two are from the same group so it was bound to happen. Honestly Soonah thought he didn’t like her at first since they didn’t talk much. Both are introverted by nature she it took a bit for the two to become close. Their friendship is wholesome though !! He is similar to an older brother so there are times that Sooah annoys him but he lets it slide because he appreciates her and enjoys her company. 

JINSUNG // CASPIAN LEE / LEE JINSUNG:

The two share similar physical features that some new fans believed they were related in some way; usually a brother and sister relationship. The two 98′ liners are honestly the closest out of the group due to their ages and the fact they went to school together for a few years. If there’s something wrong with Sooah, Jinsung knows immediately. He’s quite protective of her and once almost got into an argument with a guy that wouldn’t leave her alone while her, him, and a few other friends were hanging out one night.  

RONI // VERONIQUE DIOR / CHOI YOONSUNG

Sooah met Roni when she had moved to New York, though Sooah is from Brooklyn and Roni lived in Rochester. They went to school together for a little bit before Roni had to move again. They lost contact with each other shortly after but ran into each other during their first few trainee years and reconnected quickly. 

YUU // AINSLEY PARK / PARK SOOYUN

The two were childhoods best friends despite the few years difference in their ages. She was very upset when YUU moved to Seoul & Oregon. They kept in touch the whole way through though !! Both were ecstatic to learn they were each trainees under a company and due to some restrictions when being trainees they didn’t talk as much.

The two were friends for as long as they could remember. A few dating rumors also started about them too as well, both stated that it would be weird if they dating. Honestly their dynamic is like a brother sister relationship where they each annoy each other but they still love each other regardless.  She loves going on Eric’s podcast and he loves going on hers. 

BABY:

The two went to the same music university and shared a few classes. They also shared a few trainee months at JYP before BABY left. They still talk but due to recent schedules, they haven’t hung out in a while. 

DEVILISH:

An older sister type of relationship. They are share a few collaborations on DEVILISH’s Soundcloud + Youtube. They quickly became best friends when they were introduced to each other via Chan [STRAY KIDZ]. 

JESSI:

They sometimes that Jessi is her aunt or older sister. The two usually speak in English as they prefer it when with each other. The two are wild together. They don’t have as much time to hangout but when they do it’s always like a party.

HYUNA: 

Hyuna is her role model so meeting her was dream. Jessi introduced the two after learning about Huna being a role model to her. They’re occasionally seen eating together with Dawn and Jessi.

Since she’s friends with/apart of Seventeen, you can guarantee that she’s close to MONSTA X. She’d be lying to say she doesn’t get shy around the MONSTA X members, if you ask her if she likes one or more of them she’d tell you no. But she does.

 English best friends !! Depending on how long they talk to each other she’ll end up with some type of Australian accent. The two often just speak in English when around each other. He introduced her to Felix and the rest of Stray Kidz and it created a chaotic friendship between them.

The two have collaborated on numerous songs for each other !! They wouldn’t say they’re close but they are? Schedules often don’t align well in the past few years so they don’t have much time to hang out anymore but they often send messages to each other and get some opinions on some demos they make.

Being picked up, even carefully, didn't sit quite right with the injured feline so he meowed, swatting a paw against the hand without putting the claws out because, even in distress, he didn't wanna hurt his human. And after all being pulled toward the thief turned out to be less painful than walking. Avenyan probably looked a lot worse than he was, having spread the red colour all over his light fur with the effort to clean himself, it would make finding the actual injuries a lot harder too. But he didn't know that, he was just trying to hide from even more danger before! And that required to get rid of the sign of weakness – his blood in this case. Sadly the fact that he hadn't stopped bleeding had ruined the cat's little plan. As for what happened to him? Well, some people would never see more than a stray in the little cat even though he was just passing by. The owner of the 'home' had gotten angry and in the end the poor feline had crashed through a window a few floors down. All in all he could be lucky to only have cuts and landing on something soft. Yet it had renewed his caution about everyone but humans especially. He hadn't even done something! But they assumed he had invaded the home to steal some of the scarce food in the underground. And than he had to carry his wounded self all the way up here. So, really, the small cream coloured cat was way too exhausted to fit being taking care of – not that he wanted to necessarily. This human had always been nice to him, even despite being bitten and scratched and screamed at.

Despite his pawing and hissing, Sampo remained calm. If he got agitated he was sure the poor kitten would be too. Two towels were yoinked from the racket. One to get it wet with warm water, the other to place the small kitten on top of.

With one hand he turned on the warm water and soaked the towel. All while still holding Avenyan in his arm still. "You poor thing. I was looking for you, you know? I was worried." But like a scolding parent, Sampo couldn't be mad at the kitten. He was just happy he was safe at home now. Home... What a funny word.

Once the towel was sufficiently wet, Sampo turned the water off. Using the dry towel he set it down on the sink's countertop. There he placed the small feline. "Now stay put. Stay... Good boy." He held his hand in front of the cat as he kneeled a bit to grab the first aid kit. It's for him and Ven to use but... It should work on animals too right?

He takes the kit up and placed it to the side for now. "I'm going to clean you up first. So be a good boy for me." Whether or not Avenyan could understand him was a different issue. But hey maybe the sweet talk could at least convey his feelings for the cat. Which was worry, love and attention sololy for it.

He takes the warm wet down and gently begins to dab it against his fur. Taking away any blood that was still left behind and cleaning it in the process. "That's it, that's a good boy. You're doing so well for me." He cooed.
