Societal Standards for a 20 something yr old

I've been thinking a lot about my age and how I am not where I thought I would be at 26. Honestly, I feel like I'm "behind." When you break it down, the only reason I feel this way is because of a societal standard that we have in our heads.

From my perspective, I feel like people my age are married, have children, have full time jobs, have pets, live in their own home/apartment, etc. I could name a laundry list of things that I feel like I am not achieving yet. It is something society has taught us. I am not totally blaming society but we are held to a standard and we see things and hear things daily that make us feel like we aren't aiming high enough or meeting a specific goal. It sucks.

But after I go down a dark rabbit hole of my thoughts, I realize that my journey is unique. Everyone's journey is unique to them. Yes, someone you went to high school with is married with kids and a house, but that was THEIR path. My path isn't going to mirror theirs. It can be frustrating to break free of this "norm" because it has been engraved into a lot of us.

All in all, don't go down that rabbit hole that I go down every so often. Your journey is unique to you and the decisions you make are making you, you! It takes time. One day you'll look back and realize that certain things had to happen to lead you to where you are now.

People have a hard time knowing when to feel ok having bad days, bad times, bad outlook at the time of feeling that way. Because society says put on a brave face (Poker Face) be happy even when you are sad. Be appreciative even when you are hurting. People only support you when you are up and leave you when you are down. People need the most Support when they are struggling inside. This is why many cannot seem to get out of the cycle of negative thinking, negative surroundings, negative life. You have to sit and heal what hurts before you move forward. You need support to help you heal. This doesn’t mean some people don’t want to heal. And those people you have to pray for from afar. But people who do need the support and want it needs to be supported. They say You can only Heal You! That’s true to a certain extent. I think being open to healing is a sign that You want to Heal. But We were made to comfort and support one another trying times.
