Ryu the Lunar Pugilist

I made this for Rexaura on the official Sea of Stars Discord. It's his Solstice Warrior OC - a Lunar Lucario. I just kind of did it on a whim - I very much enjoyed the idea of crossing Pokemon - especially Lucario - over with this game. It was pretty fun to work on!

I've been thoroughly enjoying myself playing through Sea of Stars, what an underrated hidden gem of an RPG! I LOVE it. The artstyle, the character and environmental designs, the lighting, the world-building, the combat, the layered level designs, the music, the story... AND WHEELS!! It's just so fun and immersive! I highly recommend it.

I have an idea, but it won't work with how Sea of Stars set up the Guardian Gods. I'm tempted to just ignore it so I can write this fluffy/angsty thing.

Soooo....some worldbuilding/headcanon-y things I'm trying to figure out....and all this effort to write fluff/angst with Solstice Warrior family OCs. *headdesk*

First, on the kids born on the Solstice:

Solstice Warriors are taken from their families by Resh’an, if not born in Mooncradle.

Who are these families? What are their lives like? Were they proud of the fact that a Solstice Warrior came from them? Or did they mourn the loss of their child?

Resh’an must have only shown up to these families as the Great Eagle, right? Did he show up early into the pregnancy, as a warning that they would have to give up their child, and to make peace with it? Or did he show up at the birth on the day of the Solstice, like an anti-stork and silently demand the child? (Oh, that’s a shitty way to do it. Why, brain??)

Are the parents allowed to name their kids? Or does Resh’an name them?

Has there ever been an instance where Solstice Warriors have met their families after leaving Mooncradle? Have they ever deliberately searched for them? Are they forbidden to?

As for the Solstice Warriors born in Mooncradle, the village is community based, with everyone helping out in the town, so I assume this goes for child rearing, too (they all sleep in a dorm, for crying out loud.) It must be a little easier on the parents, as they can see and interact with the kids in their childhood. Do the parents end up spoiling the kids before they go into the Academy, even unintentionally? Or, even if the kids know who their parents are, are all familial ties cut the moment they’re born? (Is it like that for all the kids in Mooncradle, Solstice Warrior or not?) Do the Solstice Warriors give them one last goodbye when they leave for their missions?

(…Resh’an you made a cult for child soldiers, even with the best intentions, and I think it sucks for everyone involved.)

Secondly, on the Guardian Gods:

This is pretty self explanatory in game, that there are no actual deities, just an idea for the Solstice Warriors to aspire to become (and one that they're at least is a bit apprehensive on becoming immortal). But this fic, it doesn't want Valere or Zale to become the Guardian Gods or leave their friends/found family, which then would fuck over Seraï's world, and other worlds threatened by World Eaters.

Idea is to have a severe miscommunication between Resh'an and "our" timeline Mooncradle on who exactly the Guardian Gods are. In this AU, Solen and Luana *are* actual deities, and the Solstice Warriors most in tune with their abilities in all dimensions are either briefly possessed by these Gods to fight the World Eater (boosting their already strong abilities?); or the Warriors are kind of like power plants, and the "ascending" end up sending their energies off to the Gods so they can go through the timelines/dimensions to fight World Eaters (this might be triggered by the Solstice Warriors attempt at fighting a World Eater, and the Gods get their powers as a distress signal and power boost? Would this mean the "ascending" lose their abilities?) Either of these possibilities (can't decide which I like better) was either lost in translation by Mooncradle, or their stories got warped as time went on despite their best efforts.
