Been entertaining myself by trawling through the Shen Jiu/Original Shen Qingqiu tag on AO3. Started reading fics from the oldest to the latest. So far, I've reached fics that were last updated or written in 2023.

One of the fics I encountered was peppered with the words "fuck" and "shit". That's just in the first chapter.

I've got no problems with curse words in fics. You know what made me click the Back button?

The curse words were written as "f*ck" and "sh*t".

And one of the characters was saying "fuck" over and over, but it's written as "f*ck".

Authors, please, I beg of you, don't censor curse words or terms you deem sensitive . It ruins the reading experience. AO3 will not delete your fics or ban you if you write out words such as "slut", "fuck", "shit", "kill" or "rape". How can you convince your readers on why these words should be on your fic if you can't even get yourself to write them as they are?

i've been socialising more often lately and i can feel my selfhood getting sharper in focus

now i’m thinking about how fucking funny it will be when rubius rejoins the server (i’m coping don’t take this from me) and cellbit specifically gets to see his relationship with q. cellbit, who kept saying no one in their right mind would marry qq, watching whatever bizarre intricate rituals qrubckity have going on. just thinking about him trying to puzzle them out is so funny to me

One inconvenient side effect of my state of being somewhat allergic to most fan-translated light novels (for "the prose tends to be Deeply Awkward, probably because all the translators who reach the level of doing Actual Good Prose get scooped up by the official translation-licensing companies?" reasons) is that it makes it difficult and vaguely nerve-wracking to interact with the Monogatari fandom.

Because, like... there are two whole seasons of the series which exist only in fan-translation, not in official translation! And the fandom has, very reasonably, gone and, like, read the books comprising those seasons. But I haven't, and don't expect that to change for a pretty long time! And thus, despite being a big fan of the series, I can't really safely interact with the fandom, for fear of spoilers.

Eventually, this will be fixed one way or another, either by the remaining novels getting official translations (...after the manga translations finish? I hope? Although my hope is somewhat weaker than it would have been a few years ago, given the context where the Zaregoto and Pretty Boy Detective Club translations both seem to have stopped too despite not involving the same translators) or by my learning enough Japanese to read the remaining books in the original or by my figuring out some way to increase my tolerance for light novel fan-translations.

Hopefully one of these will happen before I run into Major Spoilers, rather than only after.

anyway dai solas you will always be famous to me. nothing but respect for my boy who wandered off mid-cutscene in the hinterlands to go help out refugees, is extremely good at Lies Of Omission™️, has a whole spy/agent/informant network of elves who followed him, fervently argues that it's unethical to be happy about killing bandits bc they had lives and loved ones, describes his own temple(?) prison(?) as having "indecipherable" elven writing, has ferocious debates with dorian and iron bull about slavery, set himself on fire once by mistake, and within about a year of his 10000 year lifespan, went from seeing all the world as disposable emotionless husks, to developing actual friendships and even falling in love.

and then! still thought it was necessary to destroy and reset the world! but he would treasure the chance to be wrong again!!
