1. Mirror Image by kaleidoscopic_lover

Takes place: All Sonic universes

Chapters: 33/33 (completed)

Synopsis: Sonic is constantly challenged by his “rival” Shadow and can’t seem to form a relationship that doesn’t involve using their fists, until they’re forced to work together to escape a classic Eggman trap and discover they have more in common with each other than they think. As they bond, their feelings deepen as they come to understand each other a little better, but at the same time, the plan Eggman cooked up is ruining their social lives as a pair of robots made to look identical to the hedgehogs are wreaking havoc in their name… and are programmed to be in love. Very angsty but also very passionate.

2. Beyond a Promise by but_why_not

Takes place: All sonic universes

Chapters: 10/10 (completed)

Synopsis: First few chapters are Shadow’s POV, as he and Sonic grow their relationship by hanging out more often. Slice of life rivalry at Sonic’s birthday party as they explore what they mean to each other and eventually live happily ever after. Very fluffy, not too much action

3. Shattered Realities by foggystarrs

Takes place: SONIC PRIME VERSE

Synopsis: Sonic and Shadow travel the shatterverse and end up in a reality where they’re both dating. Classic enemies to lovers with forced proximity, angst to fluff happy ending. Bonus points for being completed & a great reread!

4. The Secrets in our Quills by Nebrasska

Takes place: SONIC 3 MOVIE

Chapters: 24/25 (updated 3/31/25)

Synopsis: After Shadow helped Sonic to stop the Eclipse Cannon from destroying Earth and disappears, Sonic can’t stop thinking about him, wondering if he survived and if he was alone. Then he discovers that not only is Shadow still alive, but he tracked Sonic down and has been watching his family since the event, living in Sonic’s old cave in the Green Hills woods. Sonic starts building a friendship with him in secret as tension builds with GUN post-moon destruction, and Sonic and Shadow are faced with the same GUN operatives that held Shadow captive all his life while also being separated from their family. Mostly fluffy but very story driven.

5. Coming Home by nottheweirdest

Takes place: All sonic universes

Chapters: 16/16 (completed)

Synopsis: Shadow hasn’t spoken to Sonic in years, not since confessing his feelings and getting rejected. Now Sonic is getting married in a few days, and Shadow got the invitation and decides to go with the encouragement from Rouge, who seems to think Sonic actually returns Shadow’s feelings and shouldn’t marry Amy. Angsty but ultimately has a happy ending

6. Wolfboy by Trenchcoatgecko

Takes place: Sonic Unleashed AU

Chapters: 25/25 (completed)

Synopsis: Shadow, the notorious and world-famous werewolf hunter, is in town for a hit based on a tip he got for a blue werewolf for a bounty. But as he conducts his investigation trying to track the wolf, he discovers that the townspeople don’t fear him at all— rather, they talk of him like they want to protect him. In the meantime, a friendly (and devilishly handsome) local named Sonic has been more than welcoming to Shadow, and as they strike up a friendship it becomes pretty clear that Sonic is the very wolf the town is trying so hard to protect, and Shadow wonders if their relationship was built on Sonic’s last desperate attempt to save his own life or something real, and Sonic will have to find out if he was right about Shadow, and he really does have a sweet heart. Fluff and also angst

7. Clean Slate by nottheweirdest

Takes place: Sonic IDW Comics

Chapters: 30/30 (completed)

Synopsis: Sonic lost his memory in a battle and he’s stuck with Shadow trying to get back to friends he can’t even remember. But something his body seems to remember is the way it feels about Shadow… which makes things complicated as they get heated during isolation. Fun forbidden love and unintentional cheating vibes, very flirty

8. Silly Hats and Party Favors by Nebrasska

Takes place: All Sonic universes

Synopsis: Shadow crashes his beloved motorcycle and Rouge strikes a cheeky deal with him to get it back— attend five parties with her so she can get closer to Knuckles. Since the deal is a little too sweet not to take, Shadow finds himself going along with it, but every party he manages to find himself in some unwanted alone time with his annoying rival, Sonic. Enemies to friends to lovers with amazingly accurate characterizations and some of the best writing style I’ve seen, definitely a personal favorite to reread

9. Dearly Detested by queerwolf79

Takes place: All Sonic universes

Chapters: 10/10 (completed)

Synopsis: Sonic and Shadow become fuck buddies after a GUN mission gets particularly hot and steamy and pretty quickly they become addicted to thrill of hiding their secret relationship while trying not to catch feelings. In the meantime, they’re also distracted by a sinister scheme cooking up by a certain villain and shit starts to get real. Super fun enemies to lovers with smut and a cool action-packed story

10. From the Shadows of the Deep by Nebrasska

Takes place: All Sonic universe/ AU

Chapters: 11/? (ongoing) (updated 6/1/25)

Synopsis: Sonic scored a summer job at the local aquarium where a new exhibit featuring the mysterious and huge Kraken has been drawing in crowds to see, but the only thing the Kraken has ever seemed to take any interest in, for some reason, is Sonic. Also, for reasons probably unrelated, Shadow is also missing and Rouge has recruited Sonic to help find him, but he may be closer than he thinks…

Appeared one day as Shadow was getting back home (at this point Sonic is living with Tails and Shadow visits so often he practically lives there (also also, Sonic and Shadow aren't together yet but are married: context)). They try looking for his parents but to no avail. They then deside to keep him, at least until his parents come and claim him, they promise eachother not to get attached and that they will give Starlight back no matter what (this comes back to bite them in the ass later on).

☆ Some information on this au and how it works. This WILL be updated overtime, tweaked, adjusted, and referred back to!!

SHORT SUMMARY:

Starweb is an original bug/arthropods themed Sonic (but mostly Sonadow) centered AU in which all mobian characters in canon are bug counterparts to their original species! EX: Hedgehogs = Spiders, Echidnas = Ants, Foxes = Weevils, etc. Instead of just bugs though, they are referred to as Insectians! Basically means mobians. This will be released though 3-5 arcs in a comic format.

REFERENCE SHEETS & LINKS AT THE BOTTOM‼️

• What's it about? ★

The story follows primarily Sonic and Shadow in their lives as Insectians, born under very different circumstances and understanding of nature or how to live, they learn about each other and even if their opinions and ways oppose or clash sometimes they still care about one another to great extents. This is a Sonadow plot, but you can consider it more of constant slow burn, really, it's just never ending slow burn sometimes, it kills me too. This world works on a base of "survival of the fittest," meaning that animals eat bugs & bugs eat other bugs, and that's just reality. They are quite literally just bugs, there are no powers like the characters normally would posses, but instead their abilities depends on their body and species, like making silk or flying. Natural disasters for them are things small to humans but big to them, like rain, wind or even as drastic as forest fires. In addition, in-universe they have their own terminology for certain things, taking some inspiration from A Bugs Life, Mouse Guard, WC, & WoF.

• Terminology! (wip) ★

ー Insectians - The replacement word for mobians, refers to the general bug or population. It does not matter if the insectian in question is an insect in real life, they could be an arachnid and still be considered an insectian. EX: There was another insectian nearby.

ー Forager - An insectian who collects human-made or unnatural objects, whether for use or just having it, this includes those who make homes from said objects, EX: living in a former soup can.

ー Beastie - An insult used against vegan insectians that are not naturally vegan, this would be considered a minor slur, but it is frequently amongst those in tune with their instincts to mock those who aren't, EX: "You're a beastie."

ー Scavenger - Insectians that feed on other dead or decaying insectians. This is commonly used in phrases or insults, as being a scavenger is considered "unclean" by some, EX: "You eat like a scavenger."

ー Tamer - An insectian with the talent of taming animals that aren't bugs, such as birds or rodents.

ー Vagabond - Those insectians with adventure in their veins who cannot or do not want to stay in one place, often insectians that have little fear of their natural world and explore.

ー Dwellers - Insectians who live close to humans or inhabit human homes, this can be infestations or genuine pets with enclosures. Dwellers are commonly lacking instinctive knowledge of the wilderness depending on where they were born and lived.

ー Chao - Farmed or pet: Grub, maggots, or larvae of some kind, they are like the human equivalent of chickens as they are commonly used for an easy food source that doesn't involve hunting or killing other insectians for said food.

ー Maggot - Can be used as an insult towards another insectians intelligence or adolescent behavior, the replacement for idiot or stupid, it means someone's as smart as a maggot, maggots are the baby/larvae stage of some bugs such as flies, EX: "You act like a maggot."

ー Season - Refers to someone's age or time passed in life, being in season means one is of the age of maturity, it's often used to separate old from young insectians, though this doesn't always work as bugs can be big and not be in season, they do not celebrate things like birthdays or keep track of ages. It can also be used to state an insectian is immature, EX: "For your age, you sure are out of season." (No, there won't be age gap ships or weird stuff).

• Story Execution ★

Starweb will consist of comics and writings! Both formats will be used to articulate whatever parts of the plot that are needed. Currently, this will be going in 3 main story arcs, they start at when Sonic and Shadow meet then go from there, it will go in order but have more of an episodic format. I'll makes a comic page every whenever-i-can and post them, I'll put out illustrations, one-shots, and whatnot! I'd like to include multiple mediums and hope everyone will follow and enjoy it until the finale of the story. Even once that happens, i must clarify that won't be the end of the au, there's a huge cast of characters. pre-starweb events, and so just so many things that aren't shoved into the main plot.

• Extra/FAQ! ☆

ー Yes you can make Starweb ocs or convert your ocs into Starweb!! Nothings is a closed species and if you really don't feel the current au design limitations of the bug species fit than don't be afraid to do your own thing! Have FUN!!!

ー Despite the story following Sonadow and everyone being bug sized, i do not mind fanart of your own favorite Sonic ships with my au! Prefer Sonamy? Knuxadow? Alright, you can draw starweb sonamy/knuxadow! Wanna give them clothes or accessories for fun? Cool as hell! I don't mind and would love to be tagged so i can see too! (This does not include proships, if you are making weird art of my au i will block you).

ー Curious about anything or want to submit a drawing request? Go ahead! Of course, keep it sfw, and i will see what i can do! I won't be drawing anyone else's ocs unless you are a mutual, but I'll be happy enough to draw other ideas related to the au!

ー You can in fact make fan designs for characters that have yet to be drawn or have a reference! I know that ultimately i won't be able to do every character I'd like, especially less common ones like Manic (spider) or Sally (moth), some mutuals have already done with with characters like Espio, and even prior- Metal!

ー I don't mind taking inspiration off of my au, but of course if you do I'd love to see and even support ya, so please tag me if you make ocs, your own au, or anything else! If it is really heavy inspiration, then still don't be afraid to ask, i have many mutuals who have requests to so it shouldn't be a problem unless you're taking too much, i love to talk about bug characters!

Hiiiiii!!!!!! I'm Critter, I'm just now getting back on tumblr. And what better way than to have fun with an AU! SO Introducing my "Hungered" AU. Kinda a place holder name for now since idk what to really call this atm. But basically, the premise is that: Something is deeply wrong with Sonic.

Gnawing, loud, hungry...

It starts slow—restlessness, strange dreams, a sense that something's always just out of reach. Then the hunger hits. Violent. All-consuming. And Sonic? He’s not sure if he's even himself anymore.

But someone steps in to help.

Shadow.

The two find a bit of a kinship. And Sonic? Sonic develops a deeper crush than before...

I litterally made this randomly and it was originally going to just be me projecting on Sonic but then I was like "fuck it" and now I'm making a whole thing on it lmao.

Here's the baby, yes he has teef and claws. Ya'll will see why eventually. hehehehehehe. (Still working on Shadow)

But yeah I plan to post art, updates, writing teasers, etc. So stick around if you're interested lol. And feel free to ask questions and suggest/send art!

My AU is a collision on aspects of games, comics, TV shows, and movies I know and watched/played fit into an extended timeline! Im tentatively calling this AU Sonic: Point Drive!

The main groups I’m focusing on are Team Sonic (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy), Team Dark (Shadow, Rouge, and Omega), as well as the Chaotix!

The two biggest aspects I’m working on for the AU involve my AU’s Sonic Adventure 2 events as well as the Black Arms Invasion/Incident. For Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic is the one that initially falls after Chaos Control.

Getting into the Black Arms Incident has a some minimal similarities. After discovering who Black Doom is, Shadow starts to be manipulated and his Black Arms genetics are triggered to become active and start changing his appearance and poisoning him throughout the rest of the incident. He’s slowly getting poisoned by his genetics (the green veins in the reference) and Black Doom’s influence is making him extremely influential to manipulate.

It doesn’t start out as Sonadow, but builds up to it after forces and cements right before Sonic Frontiers. I love the idea of Sonic fell first (during SA2, doesn’t realize until the Black Arms Incident) Shadow fell harder (when he thought Sonic was dead on Death Egg).

My bunch of sonadow fankids!! Except the only one still technically alive is Sony- Woops From left to right, we have Dudley, Vacare, Elegy, Ferox, Pertinax, and then Sonus/Sony!

A little bit of a loredrop for this AU of mine, (as explained briefly in Sony's original post) he comes from ~500 years in the future, made as a lab creation by a descendant of Dr.Eggman called "Ego". Before Sonus, there were 5 others, who didn't survive for one reason or another (I'll definitely make posts in the future explaining the specifics of each of them)

The sort of "code names" under their names are their identification terms; the "PM" in it standing for "Project Martyr", followed by the number they were made in. So Sony was Project Martyr's 6th attempt Project Martyr and "Ego" will definitely get their own post explaining, but for now, here's the Martyrs' designs :D

Summary:

Shadow has never been the kind to think of himself as special. Aside from a talent for music, he’s just your typical guy. Nothing more, nothing less.

That is, until he meets Sonic. Until something about the unremarkable him catches the eye of the world famous solo dancer. Until he’s offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work with a legend. 

There’s so much more to the star than he could have ever imagined. There’s so much more to himself that he never knew. And there’s so much more between them that blooms in the time they spend with each other, beautiful, foreign, and absolutely hectic.

Standing in the face of chaos, the only logical step is to find a rhythm to dance to.

Okay, so this was just supposed to be part of a different AU (which i still might include something like this in there??? but idk) and then it was supposed to be just a one off... but guys i think this could literally be an au. I think it would be called the Reunion AU? not sure but yeah

AU Summary (so far): Shadow reunites with some faces that cause an unpleasant surprise. As people start to learn about the return, Shadow assures them that they have this undercontrol, but will they do the right thing?

Consider this... Chapter 1?? I suppose?? Enjoy!!

There was never really a reason to worry about Shadow. They were naturally unpredictable, but they had their morals in check and that's really what mattered. Rouge knew it wasn’t a huge issue... but she was growing more worried. 

Lately, Shadow had been acting out of character. They seemed generally more anxious, and alert of everything happening around them. They would jump out of their skin at the slightest abrupt movement, even scaring Rouge at some points. 

Rouge was waiting for him to show up and was fully prepared to scold him for disappearing for seemingly no reason. It had been at least since the early hours, and it was now going into the afternoon. The only reason Rouge knew this was through Sonic telling her. When he woke up that morning, Shadow was nowhere to be found, and he assumed that they were with her… and Rouge thought that they were with him. This prompted immediate fear and panic, worrying if something had happened to them. Rouge’s thoughts went straight to G.U.N finding a reason to put them away again, and Sonic thought of them potentially being part of Eggman’s newest plan. They both promised to stay in contact with each other and dashed their separate ways. 

Rouge hoped he would have appeared by now, for many reasons. The main one being her genuine concern, but also that there was an imminent meeting with the Commander, who she guaranteed had picked up on his weird behaviour and probably wouldn’t hesitate to confront him. And if he did... she wouldn't know what to even say to defend them.

She sat in her quiet office space at the G.U.N headquarters. Impatiently waiting for anything about Shadow to appear in front of her. She hoped he would just appear in her office, apologising for vanishing and she could cancel this dumb meeting and go comfort them in any way she could. Even if it was just a glass of water and making sure he was safely at her apartment. 

As she stood up to leave for the meeting, her phone unexpectedly buzzed in her pocket. She swiftly pulled it out and held it firmly. 

It was Shadow. 

‘Meet outside. In the alley. Be quick.’ 

Short, sweet and to the point, but she didn’t care at all. Her next move was to begin swiftly leaving the building and pull up Sonic’s messages. She had to alert him; it was the least she could do right now. 

‘Shadow’s just messaged me. I’m going to figure out what’s going on with them. Update soon, hon x’ 

Rouge rushed down the building, sped through the reception and darted into the alleyway. She stood for a moment, before seeing a vague silhouette at the end. Their quills gave them away, and the slight bit of light glimmered on their inhibitor rings. 

“Oh my stars,” Rouge sighed, approaching them slowly, “Where the hell have you been!? We were so worried about you…” 

She tried hard to not raise her voice, she didn’t want to sound mad at them at all, but she was slightly frustrated at the no contact situation. She saw Shadow open their mouth to speak, before hesitating a little bit. 

“Sorry. I didn’t mean to scare any of you.” He kept his voice low, nearly a whisper, “But it was urgent.” 

“What?” She raised her eyebrow, “What was so urgent that didn’t give you time to leave a note? or a message?” 

Shadow looked away, closing their eyes. They clenched their fists tightly and squeezed their eyes shut. 

“I…” He tried to start, but his voice got caught in his throat, “I can’t.”  

There was a deafening silence. The air thickened quickly as the tension swelled with it. 

“What…. what do you mean?” She was astounded, and that was easily conveyed by the way she barely had to try and speak. 

“Because of-” Shadow paused and opened their eyes wide. 

Rouge, realising she potentially caught him, jumped in quickly, “because of what? What’s so bad that you can’t tell me? if you’re worried, I’m going to say anything to anyone, you know I would never.” 

He didn’t even turn to look at her,  

In a swift and unconscious move, she swiftly gripped Shadow’s arm. He turned around in response, looking at her with large eyes. It’s like even he couldn’t believe what she just did. She pulled him so that he would look at her. 

“Tell me. Please.” She begged, staring into their eyes. 

A flash of fear was on their face for a moment, and they tried to say something again, before the pit in Rouge’s stomach forced her to speak first 

“What...” She took a breath, “What did you do?”  

Shadow looked stunned. He fumbled to grab her shoulders, holding her closer to him. He was right in her face. 

“I didn’t do anything. I swear to you, Rouge.” He took a deep breath, “If I do tell you... please just... keep it to yourself for a while. I don’t know what to do about it.” 

Rouge blinked in bewilderment. She was kind of afraid to even ask what he meant by that, but she was in this deep she had to know.  

“About...” She paused, feeling the pit in her stomach deepen, “About what...?”  

The words out of Shadow’s mouth were the last things she wanted to ever hear him say. 

Releasing their grip on her, they kept their voice to a bit louder than a whisper, paranoid about even muttering it themself. 

“Black Doom... he’s alive.”  

“Pardon!?” She couldn’t help but yell out at him. 

“Keep your voice down.” They hissed through their teeth, looking behind her to see if anyone had heard them. He took a harsh breath through his nose, before speaking. 

“He’s been speaking to me. Trying to get me to go and see him. He was watching me this whole time, waiting for his moment to strike.” He tried to look at her, but he could barely make eye contact before looking away, “I gave in today, and went to go and hunt for him. He somehow knew I was coming for him and told me exactly where to go. He told me that he had been on this planet since I had destroyed the original Black Comet, and that he was silently brewing his revenge.”  

Rouge stared at him, mouth agape, for at least a minute. She was trying to process that this was even real. That this was all happening again.  

“We... we have to do something.” She stammered, “We can’t let him do what he did last time.” 

“Stop.” Shadow said harshly, “He’s not doing anything right now.” 

Rouge scoffed, “And you believe that? Really?”  

Shadow nodded a little bit, turning his head to look back up at her. “He’s essentially powerless here. He doesn’t have the power of the Black Arms army behind him.”  

“Are you actually being serious right now?” She snapped, “After everything he put you through- After everything he did to you? You’re... giving him a second chance?”  

He didn’t respond. He didn’t even move.  

“Seriously? Are you hearing yourself right now?! You swore that if any Black Arms ever even came close to this planet's atmosphere, you’d destroy them immediately. Why is this any different?” 

“...Eclipse was there.” 

“You’re kidding me.” Rouge squeezed the arch of her nose. She couldn’t believe a word she was hearing. 

“Please. Hear me out,” Shadow pleaded, and Rouge reluctantly looked at him. 

“They were genuinely happy to see me. The way they talked to me about what they and Black Doom had been up to in the time since I saw them last... they were delighted. Eclipse said Black Doom had found them shortly after their ship crashed, and they had been planning together ever since. Eclipse was so excited to show me what they had been working on.” 

Rouge’s only response was to sigh. Heavily. 

“I didn’t intend to stay long, I swear. I just wanted to hear what they had to say... to see what they were doing.”  

“I just... can’t believe all of this is happening again.” Rouge folded her arms tightly, “Are you really sure you have this all under control...?” 

“Yes.” Shadow said confidently, “I’m going to follow along with Black Doom, try and keep them both out of trouble for a while until I can figure out what to do.”  

Rouge had a bad feeling about... all of this. If Shadow began to trust them, who knows what would happen? 

“Fine. I trust your judgement.” Rouge reluctantly said, “But if you go running off again without telling me, I will hunt you down, got it?” 

Shadow let out a small chuckle, “I’ll make sure, I swear.” 

Rouge finally felt some kind of relief. While she didn’t completely see how this would be a good situation, but if Shadow had it under control... 

She didn’t have any other reason not to trust them.
