Btw I think the Splatoon x Pokemon fanart people make look really good. Something about Inkfish and Pokémon hanging out just works.

When are the next translations gonna come out?

Hey there to the, like, two people who still care. <3

The short version is: NO TRANSLATIONS ANYTIME SOON I’M AFRAID

The short story is that if you’re wondering when the next chapters of Sorobochi’s Splatoon-manga are being translated, it’s probably not gonna happen any time soon, if ever. Like I mentioned in the posts, I’m not a professional translator, I literally used OCR-programs to read what the kanji are and then put them into Google Translate and, with my basic knowledge of both the Kana and Splatoon-lore, try to make heads or tails of it. At one point, I had r/LearnKanji help me out. (Great, helpful people and a subreddit worth checking out if you’re actually serious about learning!)

My worries of having things get lost in the translation, like gags and puns (especially in the names of the characters) started to manifest as I began translating the next chapter and Google Translate came up with translations that made no sense but seemed to imply jokes that might even reference lore-elements. Not only that, but I just couldn’t be sure how exactly newly appearing characters are exactly related to the others.

“Vaguely translating” stories is already something I’m not cool with (look man I’ve been through Vento Aureo’s duwang-translation, I’ve seen hell) so up until now, I was already pushing my own ethics. Continuing like this is just wholly impossible at this point.

Add to that that I didn’t exactly get Sorobochi’s/Katou’s “Okay” in doing this translation. I’ve reached out to them but still haven’t heard back. When another tumblr-blog started translating it some time ago, Sorobochi/Katou was grateful and even did a Thank-You-drawing! I’m guessing they are okay with it, but I can’t be sure, so that’s not too comforting either.

So, yeah. Until I get someone who knows their Japanese and their Squidkids-lore, you probably won’t be getting anything from me. Really sorry about that, especially since I myself wanted to know how the story exactly continues. Guessing from pictures alone is a nice throwback to my very early childhood when I started to “read” comics before I even knew how to read, but they got more fun when I started to understand what it actually said. :^)

Anyway. Thanks for enjoying Sorobochi’s/Katou’s work! And please check them out!

In sorobochi-san’s last tumblr post, they mention that Hachibe’s underground name was originally Tokio.  Please look forward to future translations!
