#10. What's an au you have for them?

serious answer: i don't really have any proper AUs for them, just because it strikes me as very difficult to convert their stories to alternative settings completely unrelated to the fateverse, given the way that their stories, which account for everything that they say, think, and do, are so deeply tied not only to their legends but to their status and experiences as servants/heroic spirits as well (particularly in cu's case - talk about being born out of a set of extremely specific and strange circumstances). like i'm not saying it can't be done (more or less it probably can) - i just think it'd be tricky and i haven't felt motivated to really try yet.

less serious answer: there is an AU that my partner and i discuss for them that is very much just for funsies which is basically just a modern AU where diarmuid is a gym teacher and cu alter is a househusband.

#21. How do they always cheer eachother up during sad times?

i think that when cu alter is sad it usually has something to do with the mindset he has that he's just a tool, rather than a person with feelings and needs, and since diarmuid's whole thing is finding ways to retain his selfhood and enjoy his life even in situations that would make such things difficult or impossible for most people, he'd essentially try to help cu do the same thing. he'd invite him to spar, or play some sort of game, or just make him the one food he'll admit he likes or maybe listen to music with him or take him on a walk some place nice - anything to remind him that there are things in the world that can make him feel joy. and cu sees diarmuid enjoying these things, and remembers it's okay for him to enjoy life, too. also he gives him forehead kisses.

on the other hand, cu is not so creative when it comes to comforting diarmuid, but he is extremely dedicated and attentive to whatever's wrong, because he doesn't half ass anything and if he sees his role in the moment as "person who comforts" he's going to give it his all, especially if it's someone he really does care for. if sparring won't fix it and there isn't some other clear solution (which he would definitely try to rule out first because he's practical like that), he will at least sit with him and hold him and literally just be there with him until he feels better. he'd be a good listener if diarmuid felt like opening up - even if he isn't good at coming up with comforting things to say, he'd at least make sure he made him feel heard and understood. also he's good at doling out praise and you can't tell me that diarmuid isn't someone who would be greatly turned on comforted by that, and i think cu would do it to make him feel better once he picked up on it. @otaku-tactician tagging you here since you also asked for 21 - i will answer the rest of your ask soon!

SQH + An Ding Idea

-An Ding runs similar to a sort of college campus, everyone writes about An Ding basically doing everything for the whole peak.

(Architecture, Accounting, Business, Operations, Textiles, etc. etc.)

There's no way every disciple can learn all of the things An Ding does, and be able to perform them to a high quality.

So, perhaps SQH is the one who starts it because he realizes how kind of fucked the An Ding mechanics are. (Or system helped out, or possibly SQH god powers because that little guy is real busy and instituting all of these plans would take a whole long time)

But An Ding ends up running like some sort of campus, with a bunch of disciples specializing in different areas. Younger disciples take all of the essential classes, and then pick one or multiple areas of study/specialization. And they get real good at them, because specialization and not covering a million jobs at once means quality goes up. And I think SQH would just take in kids at the masses, just gathering up pretty much any kid with no place to go even if they have no real cultivation potential. Because running An Ding means they need a large number of disciples. He has a recruiting system or something, so there's a little girl in the street who fashioned her rags into a slightly cuter skirt. And an An Ding person is like 'hey, you like fashion? Textiles? You can do that for as long as you want if you join An Ding.' room, board, safety all for people who enjoy these sorts of trades to be able to specialize them and produce all the things the sects need. Street kids who are good with numbers or good with carpentry get taken into An Ding, no cultivation potential needed just kids who have passions but no way to enjoy them in their current situations.

This would also mean so much less outsourcing for the peak, much easier to work in house if it can be set up correctly.

Do the An Ding kids still get pushed around and shit on by other peaks, yeah for sure none of those peaks ever appreciate all the work An Ding does. But these kids are fine anyways because as soon as they get back on An Ding their solid, their doing what they enjoy and what they're good at. Who cares if some buff bai zhan kid teases them for being An Ding, they get to go to woodshop after this and the hall master is teaching embellishments and decor carving!

(one of the req. Classes would be a year long 'how to deal with Bai Zhan' training)

You actually get to do what you like here" also I feel like there has to be a group that does the heavy lifting from all the stuff they get so there IS a group that are ready to fight anyone who picks on the other An Ding kids

firstly, iron is strict. like, super strict. everyone knows this. but what most in the mbcc miss is that she's strict because she cares. she cares so, so much and it shows in how she wants the absolute best for you. hence why she gets pushy and a little bossy at time when she sees you neglecting your health in even the most minor ways.

that being said, iron is terrible at taking care of herself. she can manage, for sure, but it's more surviving than living. she sustains herself on junk food and coffee, because that's whats efficient, but not necessarily good. hence, iron would appreciate it so much if you made or bought some proper meals for her and you to share. anything you bring her tastes far better than what she makes herself, and she loves it more when you make them yourself--especially if they're in those cute little bento boxes, not that she'd ever admit that.

another thing iron would appreciate, i think, are massages. i feel like she carries a lot of tension in her shoulders, so if you manage to catch her while she's free and forcefully sit her down for a few minutes to relax the tense muscles, she'd be just melting into your touch. all in all, iron is an acts of service kind of woman.

as for how iron likes to give affection, i think it's somewhat the same. she has your chart completely memorized, and always has your health in mind. if you go out on missions together, she's always a step ahead of you, shielding half your body with her own. she's a caretaker at her core, and though she's a doctor and injuries are nothing new to her, she hates seeing you hurt. she's good at keeping her emotions under check, but she can't stop her pulse from jumping if you cry out in pain or if she sees blood running down a wound somewhere on your body. iron's a busy woman, but she makes an exception when you're injured. she'll spend her nights by your bedside until you recover, nagging the whole way, but she'll hold your hand as you sleep, feeling the steady pulse of your wrist beneath her fingers and letting herself be grounded in the fact that you're here. you're alive. everything's going to be alright.

sometimes life does get to iron. she thinks of all the people she couldn't save, all the promises she couldn't keep. on nights like these she finds solace in your arms, where she can set down the weight of being this cold, calculating doctor and just be human again. in these moments she lets herself be held by you, lets you run your hand through her dark hair. she lets you intertwine your fingers with the cold metal ones of her prosthetic, and she watches with tired but quietly loving eyes as you bring them to your lips and press the softest kiss to them. as if to say, you did your best. you did your best, and you still deserved to be loved for it all the same.

in the end, i think iron isn't a whirlwind romance kind or hot-blooded passion kind of woman. when it comes to love, iron needs it to be like something to come home to, something calm and quiet and a refuge from everything else, which is exactly what you give her.

I think we occasionally forget that TF can very much BITE. He plays it cool, looks chill etc and Graves is more GRRR than him, but TF can hurt you with the right motivation. Do you think that ever occurs to Graves? Or is he more like "he's the brain I'm the brawl teehee" and one day it just hits that TF can eff someone up too

Oh I think Graves absolutely knows that T.F. can take care of himself that way when pressed — they have known each other so long and under such circumstances that I’m pretty sure he must have seen T.F. kill someone personally at least once haha. Graves does probably still think of himself as the powerhouse/fighter between them, both because of ego reasons and because I don’t think T.F. is particularly violently inclined unless he’s forced into a corner and removed from all other options. He would rather flight than fight almost every time, but he will fight when necessary. If Graves is a siege cannon, T.F. is more of a surprise stiletto shoved up between the ribs during a handshake lol. Very different in expression, but ultimately the same long-term results (dead motherfuckers when dead motherfuckers are necessary).

What I think WOULD take Graves by surprise is T.F.’s capacity for unrestrained calculated cold-eyed violence specifically for the cause of Graves’ protection. I feel like when it’s just himself on the line, T.F. would prefer to run until he’s out of ground, but if someone forces him at this point to contemplate living without Graves again… he would immediately Choose Violence, and How. 

Here’s a little snippet of something I never managed to make into a whole thing, but the context is basically that some guys have Graves at knifepoint and T.F. goes quietly and intensely Ballistic about it

T.F. stands very still, because he doesn’t need to move to capture all attention in the room. The cold, fierce fury in his eyes is the only statement of intent needed. 

“Get your hands off him,” he says, surprisingly quietly, like he already knew everyone would hang on every word from his mouth without him raising his voice. “Or I will kill every single one of your people and then you, and for you I’ll make it slow.”  

It occurs to me, suddenly, that in all our years running together I ain’t ever seen Tobias truly angry before. Nothin’ like this. It’s not his way; he seems set in some way to not let the world know where it’s touched him — sure, he’s barked back a couple of times when people get too close to something tender, but this is something else altogether. There’s no clever trickery here and no finesse, really. For once he’s just telling the truth.

“Are you okay?” T.F. asks, fitting his hand to my cheek and tilting my face up so he can peer at me anxiously, the other hand patting restlessly over my chest as if checking me for new holes. 

“Hell, I’m fine, Tobias,” I say faintly. “I was more wonderin’ how you were doin’ there.” 

T.F.’s distracted, still looking me over with that intensity that borders on desperation. “Huh?”

My cat - he's called Mike, he's 14 this year and I honestly don't know what I'd do without him. It always lifts my spirits to come home of an evening and see him sitting, lookinng out of the front window, waiting for me.

2. Crochet - I took this up earlier in the year and it's just the best. Currently making a blanket for one of my favourite people in rl. I'd hoped to have it done by his birthday in January... He'll be lucky to get it by mid March, but it's been so much fun to make something for someone who means a lot to me.

3. Getting up early and listening to music - it's been my ritual for years now, but there's something just 'nice' about lying in the dark, not being required to do anything and just listening to stuff.

4. Harlan Ellison books - he's sort of sleep-walked into being one of my favourite authors in recent years, and I get a kind of enjoyment from his work that I don't get from many others.

5. Coffee - both drinking and coffee flavoured stuff, it's really comforting to me.
