am i right in thinking at (as far as we know) stede is the only person who knows about ed being against personally killing people? because if so that adds an extra layer to his reaction when olu suggests that blackbeard is going to "murder" him
when he pulls this face
and denies it outright, it's not just because the idea that ed would want to kill him specifically hadn't occured to him, it could also be a rejection of the idea that ed is planning on killing anyone at all (in other words, not only dismay at the "going to murder YOU" but also just at the "going to MURDER")
knowing stede he probably won't be bearing in mind that the rest of the crew don't know what he knows about ed, and therefore that yeah, it makes sense for them to assume that that's what's going to happen.
his "he's actually a good guy" doesn't just mean "he's not planning on killing ME", it means "he isn't going to kill anyone because he's not like that"
obviously depending on when this scene takes place in the narrative it's possible that blackbeard/his crew will have killed people and stede will know about it, making my whole point incorrect lol, but i've been thinking about it all the same

You were red
and you liked me
'cause I was blue
But you touched me
and suddenly I was a lilac sky
And you decided purple
just wasn't for you
