The Lichen Mazes of the Abattoir wastes! And two fun critters who live there. In depth info dumping below the cut!

First off the Lichen Maze is a complex ecosystem which also happens to be one of the few places on land not usually covered in snow! This has to do with the weird way it functions. Suspend that disbelief. Basically the maze has 5 layers. 1. The blades of lichen that produce the spores and form the actual maze. These sharp growths discourage larger animals from walking through the maze, as the heavier you are, the higher odds of falling through the brittle path. 2. The Stone Path is not actually stone, but it is path. This is the hardened shell of the Maze, protecting the true body and retaining heat whilst keeping hot enough to melt fallen snow. 3. The Boiling Pit lies just below the path and is a churning froth of water, heated at first by scalding rain above and now by the feeding of the maze below. This is the source of the steam continuously blanketing the maze. 4. The main body of the maze is a mass of pulsing acid spewing tendrils. It eats the rocks beneath the maze, carving out a larger and larger cavern as it does! 5. This is the rock to be eaten! Boring. Two fun beasties of the maze are the Side Snapper and Creeping Salamander! Who have a fun relationship with each other. The Snapper is human derived whilst the Salamander, like all Salamanders in this setting, is annelid in nature. The Snapper acts almost like a deer, prancing around through the maze whilst nibbling on the hanging spore sacks it passes by. They are flighty as the maze has many hidden corners and unseen dangers. The biggest threat to them is an ambush by a Creeping Salamander, who don't give chase to catch them. Rather they find a corridor to stalk and when prey passes by they extend their neck and slurp them up in a violent inhale before shredding their prey with their newly evolved teeth. Fun! Also am deciding that there ARE people living outside the Abbies. At least in the modern setting, more so there will be one broken down Abattoir whose dome is gone. The Gods are MIA in the current storyline.

Hey! Just wanted to make a public post very quickly: that i'm very sorry but I'm likely not going to move forward with any commissions on my end that haven't already been paid for, even if I've reached back to you prior. I'm genuinely very sorry about it but with my current job at hand being lengthy daily as is, the added stress of trying to finish commissions "in a proper amount of time" is too much for me at the moment. OK not to go on more rambles because I can’t stand seeing people who disagree with me, but I just want to get one thing off my chest about the fandom argument against watcher lore.

I often hear that watcher lore “takes over all the theorizing in the fandom” and I just. Genuinely have no idea what other types of theories are SUPPOSED to exist??? In the life series fandom???

I decided that I don’t want long rambles here so I’ll leave the rest under the cut

Like, my best guess is predictions, for who will die and what the next gimmick might be, etc. but watcher lore never overshadows those conversations, and they’re much better being called “predictions” than “theories”.

Then there’s character analysis, which SOMETIMES people will throw watcher lore into (note: if someone explicitly states that they are talking about their watcher lore related headcanons for a character then you have no reason to complain that their analysis has watchers in it). But once again, and even more so this time, I wouldn’t call that a theory? It’s a character analysis. And unless it’s about Grian they will very rarely mention watchers anyway (unless again it’s a post dedicated to the watcher lore and op’s ideas for that). And Grian is one of the most popular characters so there’s plenty of other posts about him you could look at instead lol. He’s got all KINDS of fans.

Then there’s just general discussion of the life series which IS NOT TAKEN OVER BY WATCHER LORE. Bro I see SO many discussions about life series lore that has NOTHING to do with watchers (or just has a one off line about them). Idk why people act like the fandom is too obsessed with watcher lore to talk about events within the series when we literally DO talk about them lol. If we only cared about watchers we’d be the EVO fandom not life series 😭

My next best guess is the most ridiculous one to me. Are the theories that watcher lore is overshadowing… theories about why the games exist and why these people are in them? SOMETHING THAT… ONLY ONE OF THE CCs HAS GIVEN ANY SORT OF CLUES TO?? The ONLY CC who has gone “hey life series fandom! Here’s some things for you to make theories on!” MARTYN IN THY LITTLE WOOD??? LITERALLY THE ONLY GUY WHO IS ACTUALLY INTENTIONALLY GIVING THE FANDOM SOMETHING TO MAKE THEORIES ON. AND IT’S THE WATCHER LORE THAT IS “taking over the theorizing space” I DON’T KNOW HOW TO TELL YOU THAT IT IS GENUINELY THE ONLY THING TO THEORIZE ON THAT HAS ACTUAL GROUNDS. I’m sorry that your little ideas are ACTUALLY the fanon and not the watcher lore that is called fanon WAY more than it should be.

If you want to speculate on explanations for the death games that don’t involve watchers, go on ahead! But I don’t see why the people taking what one of the CCs has given us as an explanation are a problem?

Like I’m genuinely so confused. “Watcher lore takes over all the theories in the fandom” my guy Martyn “Watcher Lore” LittleWood is the only person giving the fandom theory material. If this is really such a problem for you then why don’t you beg the other CCs to sprinkle some lore for you to theorize on.

Anyways my next best guess is headcanons. But it’s like bro who cares about someone’s headcanons. Leave people having fun alone. It’s not even really theorizing. What is going on in this fandom anymore it’s just “hate on Martyn’s hard work for no reason except I hate the fandom” everywhere.

Headcanon time: how do animals feel about Kal generally? Would he ever want a pet of his own?

Kal has the ability to exert a subtle hypnotic influence on animals, which is part of what lets him capture strays and sacrifice them cleanly without excessive ill omen. To a lesser extent, he does this even when he's not thinking about it, which means a lot of things actually take to him quite well! ...as long as he doesn't have an aversion to it, in which case it will pick up on that twice as strongly.

Because Kal is herbivorous, though, he's not really a fan of dogs and cats and will generally form a tenuous truce with them at best.

He's kept rats before, though those were basically convenient little bags of components rather than pets.

I don't imagine him going out of his way to get one, but I could see him with a parrot. And I have a vague notion that he'll somehow end up the reluctant owner of a ferret in the distant future (despite not being a fan of them either).

Oh, and they don't really fit his lifestyle, but he likes goats. He really likes goats.

jason is such a dissonant mess fresh out the pit, he's a walking, talking contradiction. he's both still ever - jealous of dick and the permanent pedestal bruce carved in place of dick's absence for jason to fail to climb, but every time he opens his mouth, a part of him is still trying, desperately, to convince dick to hate batman as much as he does. he wants bruce dead. or at least thinks, feels, tells himself he does, and hates himself when he knows he has a steady hand, a clear shot, and he doesn't take it. he wants the batman dead, but he still thinks of him as invincible. he wants bruce dead, but if any villain really, truly got the drop on him to the point of his life hanging in the balance, jason would fuck them up irreparably. he wants to kill the clown with his bare hands. he wants bruce to kill the clown himself, because that's the whole point. he wants bruce to kill him. he's terrified of the joker, but the joker's made him feel invincible. what's the worst he could do to him now ? kill him ? he has no idea who he is or what he's for beyond rage rage rage.
