you’d been home for a couple days at this point, and you were starting to put up christmas decorations

you had a text from spencer

“my flight keeps getting delayed”

“ugh that’s the worst, good luck”

“yeah thank you, i’ll keep you updated”

you set your phone down and started watching re runs of friends when you heard a knock at the door

you checked your peephole but it was covered by that stupid wreath you put up. so you just opened the door

it was spencer.

he held an orchid in his hand, you remembered a conversation you two had

“honestly i understand the gesture of flowers, but they just die so quickly i don’t get the point. i’d much rather receive something potted”

you flashed back to reality

“SPENCER!”

you toook the orchid form his hand and set it down, and then you immediately went in fir a hug

“i thought your flight got delayed”

“hehe”

you were so happy to see him you stood there hugging him in your doorway for what seemed like years

you lead him in and avo came up to him

“why hello there cat”

avo meowed back at him, it seemed like those two were connected

you put the orchid on your coffee table and sat next to spencer on the ground

“when did you get back?”

“couple hours ago, i went home and showered”

you leaned into him again, he combed his fingers through your hair and kissed your forehead

AHHH! I’m late sorry everyone this toook a lot longer (And is longer) than I planned. I hope you can forgive me

Sitting on the floor in front of Noctis’ couch, Prompto frowned down at his camera. He must have taken hundreds of pictures in the last couple days alone. The deadline to turn in senior pictures was coming up fast, and he hadn’t taken a single photo of himself that he liked. Prompto wished he could delete his face as easily as he deleted the bad photographs. A controller being placed on his head brought him out of his thoughts. Tilting his head up he saw Noctis leaning over him, grinning.

“Come on, you’ve been staring at your camera for hours! Let’s play something.” In an instant, he was smiling wide and grabbing the controller. There was still time, he could worry about taking a picture later.

Letting Noctis start the game he saw Ignis in the kitchen, he was giving him a look he didn’t recognize. Butterflies danced in his stomach as he tried to read the expression. When he felt the heat creep into his cheeks he forced himself to look away, it was just a silly crush, obviously, it would go away.

Looking up from his camera again, Prompto saw the time on the wall and nearly tripped over himself trying to get on his feet. Grabbing his bag he started to throw his stuff into it when Ignis stepped next to him, laying a hand on his shoulder. Prompto froze, looking down at his bag, trying to hide the blush on his face.

“Prompto, what’s gotten into you?” Ignis’s voice was calm, and Prompto found himself relaxing as he responded.

“I’m going to miss the last train. If I run I might make it.” At that, the other two men looked at the clock. Before Noctis tried to suggest staying over on a school night, Ignis had a suggestion.

“I can drop you off at home, Prompto. There’s no need to fret.” Ignis smiled as Prompto looked up and Prompto squeaked slightly and nodded, muttering his thanks. The two finished gathering their things and were out the door with a quick goodbye to Noctis.

The car ride was quiet, both enjoying the soft symphony that poured through the speakers. Camera in hand, Prompto hoped for inspiration. He was gifted with Ignis’ voice.

“Will you tell me what has you so bothered, Prompto? I’ve never seen you anything but elated to looked at your photos.” Ignis kept his eyes on the road ahead of him but tilted his head so Prompto knew he had his full attention. The young blond swallowed thickly. He hadn’t been trying to hide it but he still wasn’t expecting to have to explain himself.

“Just,” he paused, licking his lips. This was a part of him he knew people didn’t like to see, but Ignis asked and he knew he couldn’t lie.

“It’s just the deadline for senior pictures is coming up. I can’t really afford to have them done by a professional, ya know? So I thought, ‘hey I take pictures I can take my own!’.” Slumping his shoulders, Prompto slipped deeper into the seat.

“But I can’t. I’ve taken so many pictures and they’re terrible. It’s not like taking pictures of you guys. You’re all good-looking guys, you don’t need any tricks or edits. Me though? No amount of photoshop is going to fix this face.” He wasn’t sure what to expect from his confession, but certainly, Ignis pulling over to the shoulder was not it. Turning to face the man, Prompto flinched. Ignis had settled him with an intense stare, one that trapped Prompto’s voice in his throat. He didn’t think he had said anything worth being so upset, but before he had a chance to dwell on it, Ignis let out a suffering sigh, shoulders dropping.

“Prompto, maybe you are just being hard on yourself. If you’d like, I could try? It might do you some good to let yourself detach from the project.” Blushing, Prompto raised his hands in defense and shook his head.

“No, no that’s alright. I appreciate it, but I know you’re crazy busy with Noct and everything. Don’t worry about it, I’ll find something with my face in it and call it good if I have to.” Ignis gave another sigh and pulled them back onto the road. Prompto relaxed, happy the exchange was over. He thought.

“Day after tomorrow Noctis will be spending the day at the Citidal with Gladiolus and the crownsguard. I have no reason to be there, so I  have time. I’ll pick you up after I drop him off.” This was clearly not up for debate, Prompto nodded in understanding. The rest of the ride was in silence until they reached the darkened house where Prompto lived. With a quick good night, they parted.

Bag over his shoulder, Prompto stepped out of the house and to the car waiting for him. With his bag in the back of Ignis’ car, they were off to a local park that Ignis thought would be a good place to start. The weather was warm and the sky was clear of even of a single cloud, Prompto couldn’t have asked for a better day for the photoshoot, and he said as much to Ignis, who hummed quietly in agreement.

In the park, they started with Prompto showing Ignis how to use his camera and all the various settings it held. Ignis took to it easily enough, Prompto figured that shouldn’t be surprising, the man was a genius after all. Stepping away, Prompto stood with his hands loose at his sides, not sure what to do now that he wasn’t in control.

“While I suppose I could take your picture like that but, I think you should at least smile.” Ignis grinned behind the camera taking the first of many pictures. Prompto laughed at that and moved to make a silly pose, one that clearly wasn’t going to make the cut. Ignis took the picture anyway. They continued on, Prompto would pose and take any suggestion Ignis gave him. Until a husky joined in on the fun, jumping on Prompto and tackling him to the ground.

Laughing Ignis came to his aid, taking a picture or two first, of course. The beast had the blond pinned, licking his face, tail flying back and forth haphazardly. With a bit of coaxing they managed to roll the dog of Prompto, both rubbing their belly.

“There’s a good boy, yes you are! You were just being excitable weren’t you?” Prompto’s mouth drops open as he listens to Ignis baby talk the huge husky that had now rolled over with their head on Ignis’ lap enjoying scratches behind both ears.

“I never pictured you as a dog person, Iggy.” The aforementioned man looked up from the dog, smiling.

“I’m not, I prefer cats actually. Of course, I find animals in general to be a delight.” The two shared a smile before they went back to the dog. They both took pictures with him, face smooshed into his fur.

“We should probably find this guys owner, bet they’re worried.” Ignis gave a small huff, smiling slightly.

“Oh, I suppose we must, but it was nice to have him for a moment.” Standing up, they thought it was best to start by walking with the dog back the way they had come.

They weren’t walking long before a young girl came up, wrapping her arms around the dog’s neck. Laughing Prompto knelt down, thanking the girl for letting them get to meet her dog. Neither man could refuse the child’s offer to play with her and Dodger, as the dog was named. The four played together, running around the park until a distant voice called the girl home.

The two found shade under a large tree, grateful for the wind that rustled the leaves. Prompto lay on his back, one arm curled under his head as Ignis sat next to him, one knee bent as they relaxed together. Ignis pulled out Prompto’s camera, intent on showing him the pictures they had taken before they had befriended a dog and their human Prompto assumed. Instead of handing it over, or encouraging him to sit up, Ignis leaned over Prompto, taking another picture.

Blushing wildly, Prompto held perfectly still until Ignis moved back into his original position. Just when he thought he was getting a grip on his breathing again, Ignis handed him his camera. Looking through the pictures of the day, he was excited to see how good of a shot Ignis was. Laughing at the pictures of them with the dog he scrolled to the next and felt everything stop. It was the picture Ignis had just taken. He was staring up, not yet focused on the camera, leaves casting shadows on his freckled face. His face was calm, nearly smiling. It was everything he was looking for in a picture.

“You’re really good at taking pictures, you know that?” Ignis hummed in appreciation, looking down at Prompto from he sat, smiling softly.

“It’s easy with such a beautiful subject.” Both boys turned red as the words escaped into the air. Prompto let out a baffled stutter, unsure of what to say as Ignis turned his head away, trying to hide his face.

Laying the camera on his chest, Prompto took a risk, sliding his hand across the grass until it grazed Ignis’ fingers. Lean fingers slowly wrapped around his own, squeezing just slightly.

“Thanks, Iggy, for everything.”

1) AfterTime - World We've Lost

I came across these guys on Facebook one day, and let me tell you, this is some epic stuff! AfterTime is a symphonic/cinematic power metal band and they just recently released a new EP called World We've Lost, and I must say, I am really excited to listen to it. After hearing this song, I am blown away by how epic it is! Can't wait to hear more from these guys!

2) Magion - Forever Mine

Magion are a symphonic gothic/power metal band that I discovered randomly one day through the recommended videos on YT and this song is far from epic and powerful. It's so dramatic and beautiful. So good. So good. I highly recommend you guys give this song a listen!

3) Sound Storm - Original Sin

Sound Storm is a power metal band that I've been into for a hot minute now. They have a new lead singer and he's just as good as their previous singer. Vertigo is such an epic, beautiful, amazing and powerful album. This song here is definitely one of my favorites off it.

4) Starset - My Demons

I discovered this song a while back on Tumblr and rekindled my love for it not too long ago. It's such an epic song and is what introduced me to this band. Of the few songs I've heard from them, this is definitely the most cinematic. It's an epic song that is a perfect blend of cinematic and nu metal. It's so good.

5) Blackdahlia - Falling Down

I discovered this song a few years ago, but the video randomly got stuck in my head one day and continued to stick around for nearly A YEAR. I didn't have the song stuck in my head, but the music video for it. When I finally found it, I fell in love with the song all over again. Such a great blend of alternative metal and gothic metal.

6) Sisters ov the Blackmoon - Blackbyrd

I wound up rekindling my love for this track not too long ago. This is some doomy, sludgey goodness right here. I learned about these guys through following there lead singer, Sasha, on IG and decided to give them a listen a couple years ago. I still have yet to listen to any of their other stuff. I really need to fix that.

7) Across the Sun - Before the Night Takes Us

Another rekindled song from a band I came across a couple years ago and need to look more into. This is a perfect blend of symphonic metal, progressive metal and metalcore. Such an epic song. The breakdowns are beyond amazing and are total ball busters.

8) MILCK - Quiet

I came across this song through the recommended videos on YT. The singer's voice is so great. So peaceful and beautiful. This was the theme for the Women's March that toook place last month and it's message is so clear. But this song isn't just for women's equality, but equality in general. No matter race, gender, gender identity, sexuality, religion, etc.; we are all human beings and deserve to be treated no different than anyone else.

9) ShadowPlay - Home

I'm not sure if I talked about this song when it was first released, but if I did, I'M TALKING ABOUT IT AGAIN. These guys dropped one of the best music videos ever, and it's there first ever! The visuals and outfits are EVERYTHING. Definitely one of my favorite music videos ever! The song is absolutely GORGEOUS and to die for. If you haven't already done so, you NEED to listen to this song and watch the video. You will not be disappointed!

10) Dismal - Microcosm & Macrocosm

If you've ever wondered what symphonic doom metal and experimental/ambient music blended together would sound like, this is it! It's such a beautiful song. I've heard quite a few bands try to do stuff like this, but they always wind up turning extremely chaotic. But this song is quite different. It has structure and is absolutely breathtaking. HIGHLY recommend this!

11) Dagoba - When Winter...

Once again, another rekindled song from years ago. The reason I originally decided to look into Dagoba was because they were going to go on tour with Epica and I was curious as to what they sounded like and I found this song and fell in love. I still love this song. It's so epic, powerful and just so fucking good! Quick question. Do you guys pronounce it Day-goh-bah (like how they do in Star Wars) or Dah-goh-bah (that's how Simone pronounced it when announcing that tour all them years back)? I use the second when refering to them, but use the first when refering to the swamp planet.

12) Ignea - Şeytanu Akbar

I've talked about Ignea quite a few times now and I can honestly say, I haven't heard anything less than amazing yet. This song is definitely not for everyone. They approached a social issue head on to bring attention to real issue behind Islam, and that is the people who justify their terrible acts in the name of a religion built on peace. Their approach to this is VERY abrasive, especially with a name like Şeytanu Akbar (which roughly translates to "in faith of the devil"), but it grabs your attention in order to expose you to this issue. It's an amazing song with such a powerful message. Islam will become a religion of peace again.

13) Disperse - Surrender

I have a feeling this is going to be a band I'm going to become obsessed with. This is the second song I've heard from them, and I am LOVING what I'm hearing! They're an atmospheric progressive metal band that I discovered through their record label, Season of Mist. This song is just so great to chill to. It's almost as if shoegaze and progressive metal had a baby. It's so good! I can't wait to give their new album a listen! Highly encourage you guys to check them out.

14) Egregor - Metamorfosis

Egregor is an alternative/progressive metal band that I discovered a while back that I'm falling in love with. They recently posted all the songs from their album, Karma, on their YT channel and I decided to add a song from it onto my watch later list and this was the lucky one that made it and I'm so glad it did. This song is so great! It has a really great vibe to it and I absolutely love it!

15) Bare Infinity - Hear Me Out

THEY'RE BACK, BITCHES! I've been a big fan of Bare Infinity for many years now. I do miss Angel, but Ida is such a great fit for them, and this song is pure proof of that! This is the first song that they've released off their upcoming album, The Butterfly Raiser (which can I say is an EPIC title and the cover art is GORGEOUS), and I absolutely love it! The hype for this new album is so real. Bare Infinity have definitely evolved into such an amazing band. Always Forever was an amazing album, but I feel like this new sound that they've acquired suits them so well and is absolutely gorgeous! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

16) Never Awake - Wander

Apparently I already came across this song of theirs, but I completely forgot about it lol. I've mentioned these guys once before a while back, but they are a progressive power metal band that I discovered randomly one day and am really enjoying. I think this has to be my favorite song I've heard from them so far. It has this atmosphere to it that I am in love with.

17) Dark Portrait - The Rise of the Anti-Christ feat. Iliana Tsakiraki (Enemy of Reality)

I came across this song while browsing on the metal archives at different songs that Iliana is featured on and came across this symphonic black metal track. This. Is. EPIC. So dramatic and powerful. So much yes. I LOVE the drama that Iliana gives this track and the power of the rest of the band matches hers. It can be hard for bands to not be overshadowed by a guest singer that is dramatic and intense like Iliana, so it's amazing seeing that they matched her drama and intensity with this track. Definitely am going to look more into these guys!

18) Silent Stream of Godless Elegy - Mokoš

I've been obsessed with this song for a while, but I only knew of the live version that Season of Mist shared on their channel a couple years ago. I decided to listen to the album version and fell in love it. It's just as good on the album as it is in that live video. But the thing I LOVE about this version is the choir bits near the end. So beautiful and powerful. I REALLY need to listen to more from this folk doom metal band!

19) Lana Del Rey - Love

This song is everything. It's so beautiful. The video is gorgeous. Just yes. The sound reminds me so much of Born to Die and Paradise and I am hoping she's going back to that sound. That was her best sound in my opinion. Honeymoon and Ultraviolence were good, but Born to Die and Paradise are truly what made me fall in love with Lana. Also, can we talk about the fact that Lana is SMILING while singing in this video?! Listen to this. It's amazing.

20) Corvyx - I Don't Wanna Live Forever feat. JAX (Zayn & Taylor Swift cover)

I remember listening to the original version of this song because people were going on about how amazing it was, but as usual, it was just some mediocre pop bullshit. BUT THIS COVER IS EVERYTHING. It's so pretty and so nice to chill to. It gets stuck in my head rather easily, but I'm not mad about it.

21) Infy - Love Song

GUYS. IT HAS HAPPENED. LGBT REPRESENTATION IS SYMPHONIC METAL!!!! I am LIVING for this music video!!! I have been waiting for a symphonic metal band to do a video centered around the LGBT community for so long. I know Ruins of Elysium have lyrics centered around the community, but this video is GAY. So many gay relationships and makeouts. YES. no. YAAASSSSS!!!! It always makes me beyond happy whenever I see metal music videos with strong LGBT themes because me being not only a metalhead but also bisexual, seeing representation that is so out in the open like in this video, it makes my heart sing. The song is absolutely gorgeous and beyond epic. My favorite song released this year so far, no doubt about it!
