Official cast interviews for Blue Beetle (2023) from DC Nation
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Found these interviews in the back of Ravager: Knight Terrors and Robin: Knight Terrors. They seem to be inserted in Aug publications at random? If anyone finds Bruna Marquezine's interview please drop them and @ me
Update: The above interviews are now transcribed below:
Interview with Xolo Maridueña:
What can you share about the origin story of Jaime Reyes—and his alter ego, Blue Beetle?
Jaime is someone who's coming back to his hometown from college. One day he comes across this scarab that grants him powers beyond belief. At first, he's reluctant to become a hero, but ultimately he'll decide to accept his fate—whether he feels worthy or not!
Like most comic book films, there are tons of origin stories to pull from. I think our movie amalgamates some of Jaime's best stories in comics over the years.
How does this scarab give Jaime his powers?
The scarab, Khaji Da, is a sentient alien life-form on a mission across the universe to detect technological advancements. The scarab just so happens to attach itself to Jaime and he's granted incredible powers.
The powers are more a question of what can't he do? He can fly, punch things super hard, make his hands turn into different weapons. He's kind of just the best superhero out there...if I do say so myself.
Who is the villain of the movie, Victoria Kord?
Victoria Kord is played by Susan Sarandon in the film. Victoria is truly a billionaire mogul with her eyes on the prize. However, she has a bit of a chip on her shoulder because there was a disagreement on who should head up Kord Industries. Susan Sarandon is such an amazing actress and as much as Victoria Kord has a bad side, she's also very charming.
What makes this superhero film unique?
This film really is gonna tap into that familiar family feeling that is irreplaceable. You're gonna meet Jaime's family and say, maybe I don't look like them, maybe our parents don't come from the same place, but I know this type of love and what this relationship feels like. I hope it will make a lot of people realize you don't have to do everything alone.
All the moments that led up to Jaime encountering the scarab were because of the foundation that his family was able to build on.
Interview with George Lopez:
What can you tell us about Rudy, your character in the film?
On my last trip to Atlanta, I was in a car and I looked out the window and there was a guy working for the city with about a 10-inch goatee, glasses, long hair, and a city orange vest that had no sleeves, and I thought, man, that's me. I like the idea that we're so quick to judge somebody by the way they look, and Rudy is a bit of a contradiction from the way that he looks.
Why do you think the scarab chose Jaime Reyes as its host?
I think it chose Jaime because it knew that he's a good guy. The scarab chose somebody who would use their powers for good. If you go back into the bug lair and you see Ted Kord's previous Blue Beetle uniforms it was from a guy that had money, was a little bit eccentric, and would create these outfits for himself...but he couldn't fly anywhere.
What can fans expect from Blue Beetle's costume?
You've seen nothing until you've seen the Blue Beetle costume deploy and the pincers retract! It's amazing to see him fly and fight. He operates in a dark blue and black costume, similar to charcoal, which may be the coolest colors of all time. It feels more like a skin than an actual costume. I've seen a lot of bugs in my day, but I've never seen one that looks like that.
How is being a part of Blue Beetle meaningful to you?
As an actor, I've been fortunate enough to have done stand-up for a long time, had my own show named after me, and a number of other incredible things in my career. However, I would have hated to not be involved in this project. If I wasn't cast in this movie it would've been heartbreaking in a sense, but I'm honored to be a part of it. To know that you're specifically chosen to be in this great project, and give life  to a guy like Rudy, is beyond an honor.

"hunger still burning" any ship! what about. the ducklings
ducklings! i think the ducklings are very cute but have never really felt a desire to write them because they feel like they lack the inherent drama that pairings i end up writing have. however, "hunger still burning" feels like a dramatic title, so obviously if i wrote this fic i would have invented some drama!
for some reason what has manifested in my brain for this is a like... dystopian climate fiction-y alternate timeline. like, hockey at the end of the world-style where the hockey is still happening but the world where the hockey is happening has really Gone Thru It and is still Going Thru It. there's something about the west coast that inspires climate fiction in me, which might have something to do with how seasons aren't real in southern california and might have something to do with all the wildfires. it's also probably partly @birdcage's fault. regardless! this fic would be a dystopian climate fiction-y alternate timeline.
bear with me while i get a little weird here, but i have this universe that i've been conceptualizing in my head for ages where the worldbuilding is based entirely on twitter shitposts (this is not all of them, but you get the picture) with the vague intention of maybe writing something set there someday. perhaps this fic is set in this universe. things are weird. there are orbs. we just don't know what happened to nevada. the climate is all fucked up; basically all resources are privatized and at a premium; the drought is never-ending; there are strict rules about consumption for everyone but the most elite.
you know what socal really doesn't need under these circumstances? professional ice hockey. TOTAL energy drain. and yet they've managed to keep their foothold, in part because as temperatures rise, a ticket for a few hours inside an ice rink to watch a game is a pretty hot commodity (careful, though, a ballot measure might be coming for their arenas any day now) (just kidding, as if the general populace gets to make decisions about public funding anymore) -- and also because professional athletes serve a purpose beyond entertainment, now; they get to play their little games and live their relatively pampered little lives and provide a laughable sense of normalcy to the huddled masses, and they are also constant experiments in the quest to optimize the human body.
(this "optimize the body, save the world" venture definitely started as the brainchild of some tech bro with too much money and an echo chamber the size of antarctica [pre-melted version] -- something about optimism the body meaning optimizing the use of resources and some other bullshit. it's definitely not going to save anyone, but everyone with power is too bought in at this point to be swayed.)
ANYWAY. sorry, you asked for ducklings and i'm over here up to my eyeballs in speculative fiction. so let's put the ducklings into this world. trevor, performatively blasé about living through a long, slow apocalyse, always cracking jokes about it. but jamie makes him want to give a shit what happens to the world. jamie, more concerned and also more resigned to the way things are, but trevor makes him want to want more. the two of them watching the sunset from the roof of their apartment as the sky turns colors no one ever thought a sky could turn, before all this. i don't know if there would be a real plotty plot; i think the story would largely be just about them surviving in this weird, grim world together. something about the alienation from the self that happens when your body no longer belongs to you, and the way that love can bring you back to yourself. something about how the optimal human experience has little to do with the body and so much more to do with the soul.

So... I've been sent for a colonoscopy on a two week wait referral (aka suspected cancer referral) because, TMI, I've been having blood in/on my stool for a while and my FIT result is through the roof (it tests for hidden blood and if I understand correctly, it's meant to detect the not so fresh blood, ie not blood from a fissure or haemorrhoid bleeding right as you're passing the stool, and can actually show up negative even when the blood is visible because of it being so fresh... Or something like that). Add some family history of bowel cancer to that and I am STRESSED and WORRIED. But like, just lowkey. I'm not dwelling on it all day but it's just always in the back of my mind ever since I saw the FIT result (before that, the GP was just referring me as a routine thinking of something along the lines of internal haemorrhoids he may not have noticed in the PR exam). I don't like not knowing. Do I have a sneaky haemorrhoid or fissure that escaped my GP's finger, or is it a benign polyp, or is it a tumour and if so how large and invading how much? I'm not stressing out assuming the worst, it's just the lack of knowing. But I've worked with the GI team and I know I'm in good hands, so at least medical incompetence or straight up negligence isn't one of my worries with this. Not something I ever thought I'd say, but I can't wait to have a camera up my ass ASAP.

There's so many things about G3 that I'm grateful for: explicitly nb frankie, afrolatina clawdeen, body diversity in the dolls, the return to creative, character & story focused fashions...but I just cannot reconcile all that w/ the colorism & in general the way clawdeen has been marketed. They significantly lightened her skin & deemphasized her black-coded personality traits (stereotypical/problematic as those were) only once it's decided she'll be the new face of the brand. But then turn around & promote draculaura & frankie more than her in the actual doll line?? I just can't look past that.
I'm happy for the folks the new gen is spotlighting. I'm excited kids will get to watch a main character in a tv show be indisputably, self-assuredly nonbinary. I'm happy for the fans who are able to still enjoy the better parts of the reboot despite it's problems. & by no means do I believe the og series was perfect, or that g3 has somehow "ruined" it. But the antiblackness in the way clawdeen's been handled just sours the whole thing for me.
I decided months ago I won't be watching the movie or engaging w/ reviews of it. & as much as I like most of the new dolls, I don't think I'll be buying any. I hope the new cartoon is fun, but I doubt I'll be watching that either. I don't want g3 to fail, but I just can't bring myself to support it, personally. & that's really disappointing. I wish I could be excited w/ the rest of the fandom.

Time for a thing I've never done on here: writting down my thoughts on a thing I like.
Today I am talking about the Dream SMP SEASON 1 Finale. (Hopefully I tagged it correctly, if not, SPOILERS AHEAD)
I started it with Tubbo. Incredibly gripping acting, he had such a hard time actually launching the nukes knowing Tommy would die. Jack being there, obviously dying to get it done so he could be rid of Tommy, but also trying to remain a friend for Tubbo, in his own goofy/rough way, was fantastic. And their conflict once the nuke launches put into light the core issue of the server : everyone wants peace, but grudges built up so high with no perspective, that now all that is left is harm. Harm, and trauma, and everything being taken from everyone by everyone else.
All everyone wants is for it to stop. Whatever it takes. Including if it means nuking the server, because the hurt built up on itself to this breaking point.
Them failing to reach Tommy was heartbreaking. Jack was barely starting to have hope to be with his friends again, Tubbo tried so hard to save Tommy, rather than keeping himself safe like he promised. But it was always going to be this way, wasn't it? He was always going to come running after his best friend.
I then went back to watch Jack's stream, set before Tubbo's, to get a full picture. There were already signs of hope from Jack that Tubbo might get away from harm (in his mind, Tommy) and get happier with him. So later when Tubbo re-defined what the harm was (Dream and Tommy's CONFLICT!), it helped Jack balance his opinion on Tommy, at least enough to try to save him to the very end, even when Tubbo had given up.
I don't think he forgave him just like that. But he understood that Tommy was hurting, and that was a part of why he did everything he did that harmed Jack.
And we find this same theme of understanding on Tommy's stream. Not FORGIVENESS, but understanding.
Desperate to hold Dream and Punz in place, Tommy had the right idea, to make them talk about themselves. Except this time he also had to listen, to pay attention. In case he could get new buttons to push to keep them there. And, through the frankly unhinged and evil talk, he did start to see it too : Dream had been hurting. Because of him, because of the mounting grudges, the escalation of pain and retribution. Again, the true plague on the server, and like everybody else, Dream had suffered from it.
His way to deal with it is bad : torture, experiments, mind games, revenge in every direction. Getting lost in his work, anything to look away from the pain and the loss. His road to immortality was his "nuke", his "after that we can be happy and free, so the cost now does not matter".
Tommy and Dream are very similar. But Punz and Tommy were both right in the previous stream : Tommy thinks too small, and Dream thinks too big. Tommy is selfish, and his scale is very human ; Dream has lost touch with that very human scale, and only sees concepts and greater things.
And they both hurt one another because of it. Tommy obsesses over the harm Dream dealt him, while Dream is too disconnected to realize how SEVERE the harm he's doing is, because "in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter."
"I would have revived you." with a scoff, against a shaking "But it hurts...!"
And that, to me, is where the finale became incredible.
Tommy, selfish, self-centered Tommy, saw through the layers of pain. He empathised. He's been there, even if his way of coping was to curl up within himself and lash out, rather than disconnect from it to go play god. It would have been easy to keep going. Satisfying maybe, to push Dream in the lava and kill him. To be selfish again and only think of his own pain. But that is where Tommy really showed strength and growth : he UNDERSTOOD Dream. Not forgave him, no the harm remains, and it would take forever and an insane amount of good will to heal that... but Tommy had the strength to give the first bit of this good will to Dream.
Because someone has to break the cycle. Because if everyone wants peace, why can't they start to let go of the grudges, and gain perspective?
It demands an amount of vulnerability that is striking, to let go of grief and accept that you hurt someone. And to apologise for the harm done is even harder. It does not invalidate everything that happened : Dream still tortured and played with Tommy. Tommy still ambushed and killed Dream, dividing the server, and refusing to stay down.
But through this bit of good will and understanding, Tommy showed Dream that they could do something else but fight. They could talk. Dream's pain could be taken seriously, not just shoved far at the back of his mind and ignored. Tommy showed him that he could think BIGGER than himself... and that Dream could think smaller, think about himself on a human scale.
"It's not worth it, right?" "Why not? Tell me why not?"
Tommy, selfish Tommy, reached out. And Dream, hurt and dangerous Dream, agreed to come down and take his hand. A first step, for once in the same direction. For once with the same goal of peace. Not perfect, not easy, but human, so incredibly human!
And they never got the time to go further, because of the nuke. Tommy clearly regretted that, and apologized (in my opinion) for robbing both of them of more time to maybe heal finally. Because despite understanding and perspective, the consequences of the harm done still existed. And there was no way to escape it.
At least not on that server. That is where a lot of sentiments from many CCs come into play : comments, in and out of character, about how the smp is a violent, destructive place. Build a house out of wood and it will be burnt to the ground. Hide your belongings, expect to die, trust no one. The smp is like living under a constant state of terror. Despite Eret and Aimsey's efforts and first steps towards a better, sainer state for the smp, the damage is done, the grudges are weaved into the history of every block.
The only way is to start anew, with none of those grudges. Which means, none of those memories. A clean slate, to do better. A clean slate, to breathe again, and have fun. Something new, with this knowledge on understanding and perspective, that comes with age and experience.
Would I have loved to see Dream and Tommy continue to take time, carefully dancing around one another, balancing compassion and trauma to finally forgive one another and become friends? Fuck yeah! I live for that healing shit, for people learning to cope with how they hurt others and how they got hurt, for remorses and relapses, and the care and patience it takes to FORGIVE when the time is right and the growth is real! But do I think the CCs had time for that? No. And they were too many characters, and too shackled by history and their own personalities to all follow that path of healing. So taking this into account, YES starting over was a good move!
And if I know many are bitter about how "easy" that is, rejoice! We get to experience a new era! I have heard so much about "the begining times of the smp", we get to live it again now! New, different, the possibilities are endless! :D It's time for us as well to let go of the past and finally get what we wanted : peace and joy and something new!
I cannot wait to see what happens next! This finale was powerful and subtle, with layers of doom and sensitivity, it was human and emotional and full of despair and hope! Growth, so much growth, 2 years of experience! This next season is going to be fantastic, and I hope the CCs have fun with it regardless of what anybody online says! :D

Been stuck with an Oswald the lucky rabbit AU idea for the last week now and I figured I'd share the unrefined layout of this thing here.
I call this AU the 'Ozzie's multiverse diner AU'. (Might workshop that name tho)
It takes place in a Toons are actors/House of mouse like setting.
Disney still got Oswald's rights back in 2007. Everything he was in irl happened as well.
But over the next decade the studio hasn't asked him to be part of big projects like Epic Mickey and he realizes he's only being used for merch bc he has a marketable face and not much else.
Kind of bitter about that and knowing he's in the public domain anyway, Oswald decides it's time for a career change. That he was promised a show and that it got canned is actually the deciding factor with this.
No more hoping to be in the limelight for two seconds tops and waiting for another ten years until he's asked to be in a project.
He can't really retire either bc he has a family to look after. So with the funds he has, he manages to buy and renovate an 50's styled diner and turns it into Ozzie's.
------
. Oswald is the chef/fry cook as well as the owner.
. Although he used to love being in the spotlight, all the empty promises the studio made him has turned him away from that. So he rarely leaves the kitchen of the diner.
. He does interact with patrons, but mostly around opening and closing time, or if they end up ordering something insane and off menu. He gets currious usually about who tends to have such a liking to weird food combos.
. He actually adores it when he can get creative with his dishes and patrons order something wild. It makes his whole day.
. Ortensia is there too of course. She is the head waitress and the offers advice and an listening ear to those who need it.
. Two of their eldest children help her out most of the time too, when they are not busy with their own work or school.
. Oswald and Ortensia don't have 420 bunny children of their own in this AU. Instead they have 13 and the bunny children used for the Epic Mickey games were 25 or so "extras" who tend to look alike at their young age. Making it seem there were a lot of them in the games.
. Both of them attempted to adopt them as their own though, but studio meddling prevented them from doing so.
. Speaking of studio and company meddling. Ozzie's is located across the street from the now boarded up and unused House of Mouse previously run by Mickey. The building still stands unused because the company no longer saw profit it letting Mickey keep the place, even though he really wanted to.
. Oswald is very determined to not have the same thing happen to his diner.
.That's why he's opening his doors to everyone and not exclusively characters from Disney.
.Characters from videogames, comic, other cartoons etc. All are welcome at Ozzie's even if they don't feel welcome anywhere else. (Hence the multiverse part of the AU)
.That doesn't mean the diner is currently a big hit yet. Since it's located in a more quiet part of town.
. The diner also has a downstairs bar/nightclub hidden away. Dusty remains left from the prohibition years.
.Ozzie's doesn't have a liqor license atm though, but Mickey has expressed a willingness towards reopening it and turning it into a bar of sorts, but so far Oswald isn't on board with the idea yet.
That's all I have so far.
Haven't worked on an AU in a long time, but hoping to expand on this in the near future.

for the space related asks, ⭐️ & 🛰?
whee!! thank you!
⭐️ Star - Do you have a favourite character? If so, why are they your favourite?
Oh no a very hard question actually... Probably the answer is evidently Emily and Dee since I spend more time thinking and writing about them than any of my other characters. POSSIBLY if I had to choose out of the two of them I'd pick Dee because I am kind of a sucker for a sad sack loser with emotional problems and I deeply enjoy thinking up situations to make him happy and/or traumatised. I also enjoy overthinking his powers and what kinds of things I have to tweak about physics for him to exist with the functions I've given him. (Such as recently I've thought of new objections to the plausibility of time travel but I think I've also thought of a way to resolve them storywise which I personally think is very funny, but if I learn more about physics before it comes up it might change.)
I love Zoe a lot but she is much harder to write and to draw for some reason? I feel like she is clear in my head but never comes out right somehow. It's weird.
I have other characters from other stories that I love too... another favourite who is unrelated to this story is a guardian angel whose first guardee died prior to the story beginning; clearly the angel fucked up a bit with that but gets a second chance, but then is pretty lousy with the second person too!! Trying to push them to fill the shoes of the first person.
Recently I found out that the person who inspired my first 'canon nonbinary' character (I didn't know that was a thing at the time tho) has since come out as for real nonbinary, which obviously makes a lot of sense lol. It was mostly about this one very cool jacket they owned. But that character was a strong fave for a long time... the story was terrible and really problematic lolol but ah well. Probably all the good parts of that character have gone into Dee and Zoe anyway.
I LOVE THEM ALL ;_;
🛰 Satellite - Do you have a character who is very dependent on another character? Is it healthy or unhealthy?
WELL. Again... Emily and Dee are each other's most emotionally intimate relatinship... Dee again is more dependant on Emily than vice versa, and less healthy about it, although I would say it's overall good for them both (but I would say the healthy/unhealthy balance varies over time and may be affected by external factors...).
Zoe is still on the periphery a bit but.............. well there are/will be some dynamics of questionable health there. She doesn't have particularly healthy attachments and is still not exactly over her previous friendship dynamic of being the second best friend of two besties who were shitty to her, and is still kind of stuck in the mode of 'trying to be exactly what the other person wants so they will like me'. Which Emily is not really aware of because she doesn't ever do that. Although the kinds of things Zoe plays up to try to be friends with her probably aren't as bad as what she has done to get OTHER people to like her, and she's relatively confident that Emily isn't going to use any of the stuff she knows against her.
Again, in terms of OTHER characters I have a couple where they are both disabled in various ways but one has more problems with mobility and communication than the other, and also had to be rescued from a kind of slavery by the other, which naturally gives the rescuer some pause for thought about the power dynamic there and whether she's ~taking advantage~ by falling in love with her at the same time (I mean by the time she even gets aware enough of her feelings lolol, gotta sort of pine without realising first!!)... but I'm trying to write that one as pretty healthy tbh, they're just trying to support each other through a difficult world yknow. And anyway the one who used to be a slave deliberately tried to square that debt immediately so it wouldn't be hanging over them both and is now mostly consumed with a quest for revenge lol. But also love.
I am going to.... stop rambling for now lol!!

I know you’re not a fan of the novel (and neither am I lol) but how do you feel about some of cql’s decisions meant to kind of soften Wei Wuxian’s character like the creation of the second flutist/changing the Wen Remnants from people who participated in the war to Wen Remnants who are all completely innocent. (Personally I don’t mind the cql changes that much but I’m curious how you feel about them, and if they change Wei Wuxian’s character in your mind)
I say this with the understanding that a lot of the changes you mentioned and the softening of his actions were in large part due to censorship, but I think that the only change I have a negative opinion about is the fact that in cql wei wuxian is not the inventor of demonic cultivation, and in my interpretations and analysis of his character it's really the only thing I follow novel canon on. it just strips him of so much of what is so impossible and impressive and unbelievable about his power and his return post core transfer. wei wuxian inventing a new kind of cultivation on his own and half dead in three months and being able to wield it so devastatingly, to put it simply, fucks. don't get me wrong he is plenty powerful and terrifying and impressive in cql but there's just something about his power being utterly unprecedented and beyond comprehension that goes so so hard in a way I'm obsessed with. we know that I am a sucker for ridiculously competent wei wuxian
as for what you specifically mentioned:
I have mixed feelings about there being a second flutist. on one hand, the concept of wei wuxian simply losing control, of the anger and the resentment and the constant abuse and, in the case of nevernight, the overwhelming grief, finally being too much for him and the weight of it all being so enormous that he can no longer manage his unfathomable power, is devastating. I like the way that is amplifies his suffering. I also appreciate that it gives him something to truly be sorry for after his return, something terrible that is irrefutably his fault
on the other hand, a second flutist adds a lot to the mastermind and the evil of jin guangyao, and says a lot about just how much the world wanted to be rid of wei wuxian. I like that it's a deliberate attempt to turn him into a scapegoat, the eternal boogeyman to the cultivation world for a crime he did not even commit. I appreciate what it says about his character, that he was good up until the very end, even through the anger and the grief. I like that it lets him keep some of his personal agency. conversely I dislike the implication that anyone could wield the same power as wei wuxian, that anybody could match his skill enough to use it against him
I think I like a combination of the two interpretations best - that someone else had made wen ning kill jin zixuan on the mountain pass, but wei wuxian truly and completely lost it at nevernight. mostly this is for selfish reasons devoid of consideration for what would make the story better, because wei wuxian losing control and making wen ning kill jin zixuan is painful and troubling in a way that I personally dislike. but also wei wuxian finally losing it in a way that is less pointed and more broad is something I enjoy
I know it may seem counter intuitive to be like hm I dislike wei wuxian being responsible for the death of one guy I like it better when he's only responsible for the death of thousands 🤔 BUT. theres just something I like about wei wuxian losing control in such a grand, indiscriminate way. I like what it would say about his character, I like what it would say about what it is that he is to blame for, I like what it would say about his grief, that the too much of it all, the crushing weight of all of the cruelty he has had to shoulder in his life, is less pointed and exacting and more overwhelming and uncontrollable. something about wei wuxian finally just being sick of it, finally breaking at the end of it all, and just letting all of the pain come out of him in a terrifying and deadly wave of unleashed power is so very devastating and so very wei wuxian. it is the perfect combination of him being genuinely responsible for something terrible and the notion that if you bend something far enough it is going to break
I didn't know about the wen remnants being different in the novel and thus do not have all of the pertinent information to build a solid opinion, especially within regards to how it changes wei wuxians character, but with the information at hand I do think that cqls decision accentuates the evil of the cultivation world and the older sect leaders in an interesting and, for lack of a better word, fun way. the way that all of the most powerful people were willing to ruthlessly and violently kill the wen remnants in cql, who were completely innocent, just the old and the sick and the very young (or at the very least willing to sit and watch all of it be done to them), I feel spoke to the cruelty of everything, and made it clear just how much influence and power the jin sect had, because killing and torturing and demanding the bodies of people who were irrefutably innocent was so obviously wrong and so many of the characters Knew it was wrong and still did Nothing. these are less my thoughts on the change and more my appreciation for the choice cql made
something you didn't mention but I feel the need to bring up when discussing novel to drama changes is wei wuxians death. cqls version of it is a Genius choice when it comes to creating parallels - wei wuxian being thrown into the burial mounds, the scene where he stands on the edge of the very same cliff with lan wangji who tells him, "you promised you would let me help you", the final scene of the show. cqls death also gets points for adding extra tragedy to wei wuxians relationships with both lan wangji and jiang cheng - lan wangji having to watch him die and being unable to stop him despite his best efforts, how the only time we ever hear lan wangji raise his voice is to scream wei wuxians name, jiang cheng going to the edge of the cliff to put the final nail in wei wuxians coffin but ultimately being unable to commit to the act in the face of his brother, "lan zhan, let me go", that gut wrenching smile he gives jiang cheng the moment he sees him even though he knows his little brother is not there to do anything kind
but mostly I love wei wuxians death in cql - the reason I prefer it to the novel - because it makes wei wuxians death his own choice. I love the ironic and tragic concept of him being torn apart by his own terrible creation in the novel but his death being a choice? being something he made for himself? a deliberate act on his part? something no one could take from him? good lord. I've said it before but I think that wei wuxian went to nevernight that day Knowing he would not make it out alive, and yet he was able to take that inevitability into his own hands, make it His. he decides the moment, he chooses when it's too much, when he's had enough, when it's finally time for him to go. it makes for such a devastating moment visually, truly opened up the gates for such a phenomenal performance on xiao zhans part. it's the culmination of it all, it's the fact that even at the end of his life nobody and nothing could take his agency from him, it's the refusal to be controlled until the very end
even with my limited knowledge of the novel, I definitely think that cql wei wuxian is a very different being from novel wei wuxian. in my opinion it's not only the deliberate softening of his character and some of his actions, but also because the directing, writing, and acting gave him so much life and charm and heart apart from that, and I think that the latter is what makes me especially fond of cql wei wuxian, not the fact that they had to shift some of the blame

Wait a minute- Those vines appeared to fill the hole after Ruby and Little got taken by the tree, right?
So were the vines attaxhed to Gambol Shroud at the beginning of the season just there? Or did someone/something else happen to get ascended sometime before Gambol Shroud also just happened to fall there and get caught in them as a result?
Sure that didn't happen with Herb- with him it appeared much the same as it did when he himself was manipulating the mushroom he lives in to open and close doors to different rooms/the outside of the house.
However, we've not seen a *living* and *willing* person/character get ascended in the show.
And I dont feel like I have *too* much reason to doubt if Herb got ascended or not either, since the Blacksmith appears involved in the process of ascension and was just finishing smithing half a wing when she first appears to Ruby at the market.
(Though I'm still willing to take that with a grain of salt based on the Curious Cat's involvement)
I kind of lost the thought I wanted to end on, but do y'all see what I'm thinking here????

so here's the thing about Clint & Tony. I used to ship them like a lot in fanon and I was talking to my friend and they brought up the fact that Tony lied to Clint when he came back to life and wow now I remember why I stopped liking them together, even as friends
so before civil war in the comics there was the whole House of M fiasco, where Wanda lost control of her reality bending powers and Clint died and was brought back to life and died and brought back to life etc etc etc and then civil war happened and Steve died
in Fallen Son: The Death of Captain America #3 (unsure if it's before he goes off to "confront" Wanda or not) Clint contacts Tony to come back into the fold after being dead for so long because things are crazy. The avengers are split and the world is in pure chaos and Clint just woke up in all this mess like "I want to help"
Tony straight up lies to Clint and talks him into becoming the next Captain America by hiding his true intentions from Clint and using pretty words rather than being honest and upfront. Tony manipulates the information to his advantage because Clint is generally unaware of the state of the world and. It's not great. Not one of my favorite Tony moments
Anyways Tony immediately gives Clint the old suit and shield is like you wanna go for a test run? And Clint is like mourning his friend thinking he's doing a good thing by carrying the mantle and is like yeah let's go until they get there Clint realizes that they're trying to arrest teenage vigilantes for doing the right thing and stopping a villain and suddenly he realizes that something is very off bc Tony doesn't really even care about the villain
Clint protects the two kids from Tony but it takes the next generation of Hawkeye & Patriot (Kate & Eli) calling him out for making a mockery of Cap (it's an incredible speech tbh) for Clint to realize he's playing into Tony's hands and opposing the morals that Cap fought and died for while wearing the same suit. Clint is obviously pissed and tells Tony he'll send back the suit and there ends Clint's very brief run as Captain America. Thanks Tony.
anyways there are some lines you just don't cross imo? I still like tony and you can ship them and it's fine but for me personally as a clint stan I can't see them as a thing that actually works in a healthy sense in 616 anymore because that's just a level of betrayal I can't see Clint getting over
Clint is always so focused on his morals and doing the right thing that it caused rifts in his marriage to the point of divorce like?? Idk sorry Tony sorry to my little multishipper heart I just cannot see it
