So it's a total Calgary day, started with snowing Charlie Brown snowflakes in the early am. Then the dark sky's that threatened buckets if precipitation at around 8 is. Then sunshine and spring-like weather that makes me believe I can still get my bulbs in. I just Love CALGARY weather. I also do have a solid favourite pie. It is our #sourcherrypie this is always on our menu and always a top seller. The reason is the blend of your bush cherries that we bring in from a co-op of farmers in Saskatchewan and now Alberta. It's the blend of these sweet-tart cherries wrapped in our all-butter crust that makes this pie a winner every time. Swammy & Padma Akuthota started Satya in its original guise, with the premises at K Rd. This led to 3 other Satyas opening on Great North Rd, Mt Eden & Sandringham. With the success of Satya Chai Lounge attached to the Sandringham branch started by son Sammy, it's a blessing his parents have allowed the original Satya to morph into a Chai Lounge, and last week the neighbouring former barbershop opened as Satya Bar. Swamy, Padma & son have a social conscience, witness the Christmas Day feast provided free for the public and latterly free food during the power blackout in March. Personally, they remain loyal friends and never forget any help & encouragement you have given them. In times of adversity, it’s always a comfort to dine at Satya/Chai Lounge. A retired restaurant reviewer and Uncle had dahi puri, onion baji, curry flower and vege/egg fried rice. We adjourned to the bar next door. It was pumping. Our sour cherry pie has been on our menu since we opened our door 3 years ago. Sour cherry has been the only pie to stay on our menu without exception. We have proudly always purchased our cherries from a co - op of farmers in Saskatchewan. Sadly this year's sour cherry production is extremely poor, the crop yield is only 10 % of what was expected. This is a province wide issue. One that is affecting many farms and down the line the pie junkie. We have been able to only purchase 10% of our order. This means we are currently looking to fill our order Across Canada. I work a great deal of my time at our SW Spruce Cliff location, but I do so love the look and feel of our Kensington store. When designing the location it was clear in my mind from day one. I wanted it to look and feel like our cabin in the mountains. The warm white #shiplap walls contrasting the black accents and the smell of pie. I wanted it to feel like home. I am so very lucky to have a husband who can do all this for me and make it look and feel easy. Gary is a contractor, project manager and an artisan. I draw it and he makes it a reality. I save old doors, flooring, crap really and all I need to do is tell him what I see and suddenly it is a part of my life. Every dream I have had he has built it. As I look around at this sweet little store I can't help but be in awe. 19 months have flown by since we opened. We feel such a part of this wonderful community and as I click frame after frame in the morning light I am simply grateful for my husband and his talents and understanding. Grateful to a community who have supported us through all our growing pains and continue to care about our little #pieshop .
