Street Team and ARC-reader sign-up!
I'm about to put together a Street Team for "Mirror, Mirror"! If you're interested just shoot me a message! I'd be very grateful for even the tiniest bit of help launching this contemporary teacher romance with a cat attaché. ARCs will of course be provided. Just shoot me a DM if you're interested!
After a life-shattering clash with his father and the end of a toxic relationship, musical actor Arrick Filan has no more fight to give. Running to the other end of the world and returning to his roots as a small-town teacher seems like a good idea. A temporary solution. At least until his new boss’s enticing smiles threaten to draw him out of the comfort of his shell.
Evan Miller’s a vice principal, adores teaching, and his focus is on his friends, his dog and his job. Setting eyes on the new music teacher at Ashland High has Evan greeting a quest for love with open arms. His relentless attempts at friendship and romance force Arrick to examine his past. Could starting something new with Evan be worth the potential pain? Arrick has kept his heart and history close to his chest, but glimpses at his passion for music and teaching make it impossible for Evan to turn away. art: @itssteffnow design: @mayonaka.designs

any environmentally minded people willing to sign a petition for a place close to my heart? we're asking for state resources to protect and manage the sourlands. you don't have to live here. reasons to sign, per the petition, include:
The Watershed Institute estimates that more than 800,000 NJ and PA residents rely on the Sourland region for some or all of their clean drinking water [hi!i'm one of these!];
A healthy forest reduces stormwater runoff and prevents flooding in the Delaware and Raritan Rivers;
The entire Sourland Mountain Region is a National Audubon Society designated Continental IBA ( Important Bird Area) macrosite. It is one of just 113 such sites in the United States. Migratory birds who rely on the Sourlands as a rest stop impact ecosystems from South America to the Arctic and everywhere in between;
57 state listed, threatened, and endangered species rely on the Sourland region for survival;
The Sourland Region is the most intensive carbon sink in New Jersey;
and more!

Things Don't Go Right (but Then They Do)
Originally written on Twitter for a kiss prompt. Sourlander asked for "Forehead".
--
"It's all going wrong. Just like everything always goes wrong. I always lose everything."
"Hey," Poe said. He'd been sitting quietly till now, letting Armitage stalk around the room venting his anxiety. Typically Armitage calmed down on his own, but today it wasn't happening. "Hey," Poe said again when Armitage didn't look at him. "You're catastrophizing."
"It's not catastrophizing if it's accurate," Armitage hissed. "This always happens. First Mother, then Admiral Sloane…"
"Armitage."
"…then my life's work, and now this."
"Armitage," Poe said. "You're not losing anything, okay?"
"But I am!" Armitage protested. His voice was pitching high, close to a shriek. "All my plans, gone to waste again!"
"Baby," Poe said, and Armitage finally stopped pacing. His mouth worked silently for a moment, then closed. "Things never go perfect. But they can still turn out okay." Armitage's hands were in tight fists; Poe reached for them, pushed his own fingers into Armitage's palms.
"But if I can't even make one day go right, how can…" Armitage looked away, toward the floor, and Poe's chest went tight. It always took a lot for Armitage to reveal vulnerability to Poe. Seeing it filled Poe with both pride and despair. "How can I manage an entire lifetime?"
Poe swallowed, then took a deep breath. "You can't control everything," he said gently. "You know that. But you can do your best. And you always do, and I love you for that. I love you, Armitage."
Armitage slowly raised his eyes. They were wet and red. "Do you?" he asked dully.
"Yes," Poe said, before Armitage had even finished asking. "I love you more than anything else in the galaxy."
"I love you," Armitage blurted. It was maybe the fifth time he'd ever said it. It made him so vulnerable.
Poe squeezed his hands. "Thank you."
"It's…it's not enough," Armitage said bitterly.
"It's everything I need," Poe countered. "You never have to say it again."
Armitage's lips compressed, his Cupid's bow disappearing into a thin line. "I want to."
"Then you will," Poe said.
"How can you be so confident?"
"Come here," Poe said, letting go of Armitage's now-slack hands and reaching up toward his face.
Armitage obligingly bent at the waist, bringing their eyes level, and Poe cradled Armitage's face in his hands. "Because we make absolutely no sense, that's why. No one could ever have predicted that you would end up with me, or that I would end up with you."
He tipped his head up enough to plant a kiss on Armitage's forehead. Armitage let out a small hum, a noise Poe had come to recognize as relief, and the tightness in his chest started to loosen. "You're not alone. We can handle this," he said.
"You're right," Armitage said, and there was strength in his voice again. He kissed Poe firmly on the lips, then straightened. "Thank you. If the full orchestra can't be here, we will simply use the acoustics to amplify the musicians we have."
Poe smiled. "Sounds good."
"Yes, it will," Armitage said with a small smile. "Now go get dressed. I'll speak with the planner. There isn't much time left."
"Yes, sir," Poe said, grinning. "No matter what, I am marrying you today."
Armitage's smile grew fuller, softer. "And I you."

My dad grew up on Sourland Mountain near Neshanic Station during the 1940s. His family's home was barely more than a shack situated on an upcountry dirt road; they had an iron well-pump in the kitchen instead of a faucet, and their neighbors raised yard pigs and brewed their own poteen. My grandmother - the daughter of immigrant Russian Jews - developed a folksy hillbilly lilt from living up there, and she passed it on to her children. When she needed provisions like canned beef stew, oleomargarine and peanut butter, she'd tell my father and his brother to fetch their blanket rolls and descend the ridge on foot. They'd camp overnight, hit the grocer's in the morning, and deliver the goods by suppertime-- factoring in a quick dip in the Raritan under the old red Central Railroad bridge as a reward.
I saw all of these sites - the mill, the bridge, the river, the half-collapsed shack - years ago before luxury condos crept in and overtook Hillsborough Township. So while I love the look of this mill renovation, I am both transfixed and horrified at the wealth it takes to stake a claim in what was once a humble, no-frills community where having two dimes to rub together made you a rich man.

Hillsborough, NJ
built in 1876
“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own the famous Neshanic Mill in Hillsborough NJ featured on the Welcome to Hillsborough sign. Built in 1876 on the banks of the South Branch of the Raritan River farmers would bring their grain to the mill to be ground into flour. This continued until the late 1940s. This home was turned into a residence in the 70s and then the current owners restored the old charm of the mill while transforming it into a modern residence in the mid-90s.”

Your URL suggests Sleeping Beauty obviously, but there's more! You're a dreamer and an artist... so Rapunzel. But you're also generous and kind and that would also make you Cinderella ;)
Awww thank you dear!! You remind me a lot of Alice! Such a curious mind and so creative :p Also Belle and Merida, since you’re an avid reader and so brave :) Oh, and you love animals, so it’s another Disney Princess point!
