Harrodsburg Again

I'm following up on an earlier post which showed an L&N freight meeting an Amtrak Floridian at Harrodsburg, Indiana, on the former Monon Railroad. I realized that I tried to shoot a similar view looking south along the right-of-way there forty-five years later—just had to spend some time digging it up.

There was evidence of a two-track on the abandoned roadbed toward the south, but I really could not make out where the bridge had been over Clear Creek just a stone's throw to the north—as it is now hidden in dense foliage.

Views made December 3rd 1976 and September 28th 2021.

Independence Day - 2023

Hi! I'm a total noob here at the mom life and participating in mom things BUT I'm learning.

Today - the band marched in the parade. Fun fact: I cannot remember at all when the last time I went to a parade! But there I was, planning my parking spot and my exit beginning with the Remind text from the band director 3 days prior to this event! Seriously, I am prepared for a high anxiety day surrounded by tons of people in an element that's ironically foreign to me and not because of the COVID hiatus most of us were forced into but because my remote position has me reverting to a quiet, solitary, uneventful life. So, of course we are fixing that starting....you guessed it! July but really jumping into the swing of things at a full pace ahead type of gig. I've said it before...I just really gotta do it. Like gotta get back to my spunky self! I'm trying but gosh! Outta my element is WILD.

I am slowly learning that there are more people besides me who are just unaware and unable or dare I say ?afraid? to ask questions and make an effort to be apart of the "parent" group that makes decisions and guides us financially throughout the year to ensure our kiddos have an experience they will never forget. I'm making an effort to voice my questions and be apart of decisions to see if there can be some transparency and perhaps more parent involvement in these next four years. My mom must be having a ball up there seeing me jump into this with both feet all the while navigating life blindly and taking it day by day?!

For the first time probably in my whole entire life I'm proud of myself for doing these things without a foundational friend support group that will be by my side. I'm doing all this shit rogue style and hope that my charm and charisma will manifest into some amazing band memories and moments.

Meet at Harrodsburg

Here we see a southbound Amtrak Floridian passing a northbound Louisville & Nashville freight "in the hole" at the north end of Harrodsburg Siding. This is the former Monon, which had been absorbed by the L&N six years earlier.

The Amtrak train is powered by SDP40Fs (using steam to heat the cars) while the lead locomotive on the freight is a GP38-2 built for the L&N in 1972.
