Ifrit the fire and brimstone Southern preacher in a snake-handler church during his human life. Ifrit who charmed all his parishioners' wives, telling them he could impart holiness upon them if they laid with him. Ifrit who was also a snake charmer and a charlatan and thought he could control them. Ifrit who was a sinner (Lust and Pride at bare minimum) and was bit by a snake and was poisoned and died and summoned as the Fire Ghoul we know.
Ifrit who still keeps snakes. Ifrit who lets his favorite python sleep in his bed. Ifrit who is still gorgeous and has charisma oozing from every pore. Ifrit who's a natural showman and an utter himbo. Ifrit who convinces Siblings he can show them Satan's true glory if they lay with him. Ifrit who passionately preaches the Dark Lord's word with all the fervor and zeal he displayed in his human life.
Ifrit who tries to help a certain Air Ghoul do the same at the unholy pulpit. Ifrit who is so used to the pump and dump and just taking what he wants. Ifrit who can't do that, because Zephyr's pain won't tolerate it. Ifrit who learns he likes serving and giving and being told what to do, even if it's as simple as Zeph's gentle corrections and requests for accommodation. Ifrit who discovers how much love can be expressed through the pleasure. Ifrit who now returns the python to the safety of her enclosure at night. Ifrit who no longer desires another. Ifrit who now knows the true meaning of devotion.

As I said to @the-moon-in-the-gutter , Triple Goddess idea. With my Elemental/Coven Ghost hcs I'd assigned Sunny-Lulu-Cir as the standard Maiden-Mother-Crone concept. But this idea of Tempest as containing Solaris (Light), Umbra (Darkness), and Haze (Transition/Liminal) is very good too and is closer the Triple Goddess model embodied by the Morrigan (Macha, Nemain, and Babh)
(Another example of Sova being an Occult nerd and smashing that and Ghost together like making Barbie dolls kiss)
Solaris, Umbra, Haze
A Tempest of Three.

Secondo/Alpha/Omega/Terzo polycule**. SecAlpha and OmegAlpha and TerzOmega. OmegAlpha as the primary couple with the Emeritus boys as secondaries, one for each Ghoul. SecAlpha with dutiful house-husband vibes cleaning up after whirlwind chaotic diva Terzo and sometimes absent-minded from infirmary stress Omega. SecAlpha baking and cooking and cleaning for the other couple, loving how appreciative they always are. Alpha and Terzo also being such fucking bottoms btw

Ok very bare bones ideas about Ghoul Paganism bc why would those fuckers be anything else??
Follow a Wheel of the Year type calendar, observing the Solstices and Equinoxes and the cross-Quarter days between (see Sabbat Ghouls)
Ghoulette Full Moon orgies no boys allowed. Transfem and other femme-identifying Ghouls (gn) most welcome
Honoring a polarity of Divine power, a la Lucifer/Diana, Therion/Babalon, Satan/Lilith, etc.
Each individual also having patron/tutelery Deities specific to their Element and interests
Sentry Ghouls at the Quarters for rituals (this needs to be rethought a bit bc ↓)
Ghouls reverse where Earth and Spirit (Quintessence) usually fall; Quint is North, as in the North Star, and Earth is center, as in Centering and Grouding, the altar being placed in the center

Something that sprang from conversation with @the-moon-in-the-gutter, as per usual. CW death mention, implied consensual violence.
It took months for Omega to come out of mourning. Not that anyone blamed him. Losing his mate was devastating, and even more crushing was still living in the very institution that had brought about his end. Alpha became his solace then, one of the few who felt the loss at anywhere near the same level. They had been his left-hand Ghouls, and now all that remained was each other.
The first time they fell into bed together, Omega had begged through his sobs for punishment, because he couldn't save his mate. He'd needed to be broken, because he'd been too slow and weak to stop it, too stupid to see the signs before it was too late. Alpha tearfully obliged, conducting the session without any joy or fulfillment. Omega had thanked him as he continued to sob in Alpha's arms.
Somewhere deep inside, though, Alpha felt gratitude. He pushed it down, down, down, hoping to stamp it out under his boots. But the fact remained that Omega was finally his and his alone. And so bittersweet was the victory, that he despised it. He knew this was the only version of events that could have brought Omega to him. He'd pined for his companion for years, but the mating bond couldn't be broken except in death, and Alpha knew that. He kept his distance respectable. He never so much as considered tempting Omega to stray. Omega would have never known, if he hadn't come to Alpha for that comfort.
Regardless, he'd always looked at the Quintessence Ghoul as if he'd hung the stars that birthed him. And as Omega found peace in sleep this particular night, many months having passed again, Alpha kept a vigil over him, to keep the trauma-fueled nightmares at bay, a role reversal if there ever was one. He watched his partner with the purest, most abject adoration, filled to bursting with love, offering a silent prayer of thanks to the Dark Lord for His boon after all this time. Alpha believes -- knows -- that this other Ghoul loves him. And he also knows that he's not always the one Omega's hands search for in the middle of the night.

Distracting myself from being heartbroken with Ghouls
@the-moon-in-the-gutter and I have extensive Ghost-inspired lore that I've alluded to here and there. Here's a more complete summary.
Ghouls are deceased humans whom the Ministry summoned back to the land of the living. The Pit is not Christian Hell, per se, but an Underworld of the dead reminiscent of Hades' realm in Greek mythology, or the Norse Helheim. Ghouls are sometimes born there, but not often because while it can be a place of rest for weary souls, it is often also dangerous and violent (since all humans end up there together, the Pit reflects the sum of human nature but with fewer consequence). There exists a very specific ritual for summoning a Ghoul, especially if one wants to summon a particular Element and not simply whatever Ghoul answers the call.
Special was summoned incorrectly by Sister Imperator to be basically her errand boy and lap dog, and as such, he came back wrong. He worked a lot of fucked up Quint Magick to spy on the rest of the Ghouls, and because Omega sometimes also did interviews, he grew insanely jealous of him. He worked to sabotage Omega's relationship with Terzo, convincing Seestor that Ghoul/human relationships were wrong. So as an extension of that, he was instrumental in the deaths of the other Papas. Part of his fucked up summoning was Sister promising the soul of her child in exchange. Being that she had twins, she had to select one for Special, who was Copia's brother (we call him Vero). So, he's been hidden away all this time, partially raised by Special in all his fucked-upedness. But the deaths of the other Brothers still paved the way for Copia to become Papa, and Special couldn't handle it, thinking of himself as Sister's son as well, and not getting the recognition and status he felt he deserved and was owed. He felt he was not only her son and heir, but because of her promises, he also owned her and she should do as he said.
After Terzo's death, Alpha was there to help Omega through his grief, and they ended up mating (Omega recieved Terzo's blessing via Delta and Phantom, who can see ghosts and communicate with the dead). Alpha had suspicions about Special, and shared them with Omega. They plot to stage a coup and overthrow the current Clergy and have Ghouls in charge of the Ministry going forward. They recruit other Ghouls to help, and Alpha gets the satisfaction of flinging Special back into the Pit himself. Sister's illness that killed her in the Ghovie, was the result her constant exposure to Special's Magick, and they way he's been leeching off her for decades.
Another facet is the Sentry Ghouls, four Multi Ghouls who were summoned to guard the Ministry. They were severely neglected, mistreated, and isolated until after the coup. See, Special had also mistreated Cowbell, also jealous of him (and the attention Air gave him; Special wanted Air for himself, but Air only had eyes for Bell), so he influenced the pack to abuse Bell, and Bell ran away to the forest around the Ministry. (Additionally, Vero became infatuated with Special and once propositioned him, only to be met with disdain, disgust, and rejection.) After Special's removal, Air convinces Bell to return, they form a mateship, and together invite the Sentry Ghouls to integrate into the pack as well.
Afterwards, all the Ghouls start a return to their own traditions and beliefs and practices, rather than the human version of Satanism that had been imposed upon them. Alpha, Omega, Chain/Water (his name is Rho but he doesn't acknowledge it), Air (Epsilon, but he doesn't use it), Earth (Gamma, which he does use), and Cowbell (Iota), form a Council of Elders, each of them being the First of their Elements, along with Mist as the first Ghoulette (though she prefers to call herself a Ghuleh), and Cumulus as the pack's Queen (as Ghouls are matriarchal). They don't rule like the Clergy did, they just help to settle any disputes and are regarded with respect for their wisdom and experience.
The new Ghoul Ministry holds a farmer's market kind of event from Beltane (May 1) to Samhain (Oct 31), with public rituals, arts and crafts for sale, produce, teas, seasoning mixes, potted plants, and cured meats. The Earth Ghouls offer classes on plant and animal care, similar to 4H or FFA. At night, there's a carnival, with rides and games and fireworks at the end, and in the fall, they include tours of the Ministry, haunted hayrides, corn mazes, etc.. The Ghouls maintain their Glamours during these events, perhaps letting them slip a bit as scare actors. These open events also serve as outreach, especially the spiritual ceremonies; if a human seems particularly interested, they may receive an invitation to formally join and become a Sibling in the new Ministry.
And finally, a list of Ghoul body factoids that feature in the lore but don't have direct influence on the story:
Gender and sexuality are human things. Ghouls adopt our labels for convenience.
All Ghouls have mixed genitals, with a sheath for their cock/clit, and a vaginal opening.
Ghouls whose identity aligns with a human idea of men will unsheath much more often/prominently, and often display testicles. But all Water Ghouls have tentacles for their sexual organ, and all Quints are well hung, noticeably so.
All Ghouls can get pregnant, all Ghouls have g-spots and prostates.
A Ghoulette, who leans more feminine in their alignment, can and often do display breasts, mostly so that humans' perceptions of them will align with said Ghoul's (gn) choice of identity (they are aware of the social climate surrounding human gender expressions, even if they find the whole idea ridiculous).
After the coup, many of the Ghouls decide to wear less clothing, or even none at all. Nudity is not taboo in Ghoul culture.
There's other stuff specific to individual Ghouls, but that's the core storyline that influences our lore.

I added this to my pinned today bc @the-moon-in-the-gutter had this vision and we've expanded on it.

The Sentry Ghouls were summoned to be Guardians of the Ministry grounds, like a security team. Although this would seem like one of the most important duties a Ghoul could have, they were treated very poorly, as lowly indentured servants. They had their tails cropped to limit their flight, but their wings remain to give them the appearance of gargoyles. As such, they each have varying degrees of balance and mobility issues. They were given a small, unkempt shack as their dwelling, and taught that the band Ghouls were at the top of Ghoul heirarchy. They are a very close-knit pack, with Tellus and Psyche emerging as their alpha pair (though they are not mates). Pyxis is non-verbal and permanently age-regressed.
Since the coup (led by Alpha and Omega) to take control of the Ministry grounds from the (human) Clergy, there has been a return to Ghoul traditions and ceremonies, and one facet of that is that each Sentry stands in one of the Cardinal directions during their rites. Additionally, they were welcomed by the rest of the Ghouls as equals, and encouraged (most prominently by Cowbell, their Elder Multi Ghoul) to integrate into the larger pack. Tellus, Psyche, and Venus found their mates (in Aether, Mist, and Sunshine respectively), and Pyxis was readily accepted by the found family of Earth Ghouls (as Meadow [my OC] is also regressed, and the Earth Ghouls all use sign to communicate due to their inherent deaf/HOH disability).

Absolutely agree. Queen Lulu with her knights Cir and Mist and Princesses (gn) Sunny and Rory. Cir and Lulu are mated but the Queen loves all her girls (often carnally). Mist and Cir are butch lesbians with immaculate dick game. Sunny is transfem and loves hanging her giant cock out while sunbathing. Rory is so girly and giggly and can either be the Ultimate Pillow Princess or the kind of domme that coos humiliation in the boys' (usually Swiss and/or Bug) ears. There are Ghoulette lesbian orgies every Full Moon (esp. post-coup when Ghouls are free to openly practice their own Traditions).
@the-moon-in-the-gutter
Ghoulette headcanon cause WOMEN.
Ghoul packs are kinda similar to hyena packs, in the sense that ghoulettes are at the top of the hierarchy, and males are at the bottom. While males are often rowdy and chaotic, they’ll obey a female’s commands without any hesitation. Ghoulettes typically don’t really bother with the males, often making their own mini pack with the other ghoulettes, but they’ll intervene when they feel like it. It’s also best to have multiple ghoulettes in a pack due to this, so Once the clergy discovered this after Mist had been summoned, they scrambled to try and summon another female, and they ended up succeeding after a few attempts, ending up with Cumulus and Cirrus. While they are separate packs, it functions the same.
In packs without ghoulettes.. it’s honestly very complicated, and varies from pack to pack. Some it’s the biggest ghoul/Earth ghouls, some it’s the strongest, oldest, smallest, etc. It’s a big mess.
In conclusion, male ghouls treat ghoulettes like the queens they are <3

First a quick note, from here on, fem-presenting Ghouls are referred to as Ghulehs rather than Ghoulettes. But I come to you with more lore that @the-moon-in-the-gutter and I cooked up.
On Multi Ghouls, Hybrids, Summonigs, and the Pit, pt. 2
I explained last time that Multi Ghouls are a combination of Quint and any other (one or more) Elements. The Ghost Project has included six so far:
Cowbell: Quint/Earth
Special: Quint/Fire
Swiss: All Elements
Sunny: Air/Fire/Quint
Aurora: Quint/Air
Tempest: Air/Quint/Water
Hybrid Ghouls are then a blend of any Elements that don't include Quint, such as the Old Magick Earth/Air Ghouls in the Pit, and Dew, who is Water/Fire. Sometimes Hybrids will present as one Element more strongly, and can undergo a ritual to change that presentation, such as what happened to Dew.
Other times, such as with Sunny, an Element will essentially be "recessive" and seem to not factor into the Ghoul's presentation at all. Sunny's Quintessence is recessive, but manifests in her Appalachian folk practices (as opposed to other Quint Magicks being more energy-based), and also in the fact that she is transfem:
In human Elemental associations, Water and Earth are feminine, and Air and Fire are masculine. With Ghouls, that's a little flipped; the band Earth Ghouls have all been masc, and except for Mist, Water has been too. In this lore, Air is Ghuleh-heavy, especially when we include Rory and Tempest. This is another flip from human associations, the same way the directional associations for Earth and Quint are flipped. This also renders Quint on the masc end of the spectrum. And since Ghouls (gn) are matriarchal, the feminine Elements are more dominant. So Sunny, being Air and Fire with recessive Quint, is transfem.
This does beg the question of Fire Ghouls. Why have all three of them been masc, and why have we only seen three? There are two main reasons for this. One, especially early in the Ghost Project's history, the human perception was that rock/metal was a male-dominated/exclusive genre, and so to have any hope of success, the band had to be comprised entirely of men. It was Terzo, already a rebel among the Clergy (in no small part due to his barely-concealed relationship with Omega) and afforded leeway after his Grammy win, who dared to experiment and allowed the summoning of a Ghuleh (Mist, honored as the First) to stand (and after all, Terzo was quite adamant about celebrating the female orgasm). He also successfully summoned the first Multi Ghoul, the beloved Cowbell.
The second reason has to do with living conditions in the Pit and Fire Ghoul nature. Fire Ghouls are particularly suseptible to Pride and Vanity, and this usually manifests Topside as very particular hair care routines. They can be likened to cats, with constant grooming, their glory comparable to lion manes. However, in the territorial disputes, the Fire Ghouls established themselves in deserts, which are not the most hospitable for cat-like entities. In short, life is hard for Fire Ghouls, and even if their Element predisposes their population to skew more fem, being matriarchal means they are not going to give up their Ghulehs easily and leave their packs vulnerable (the other Elements are far more naturally suited to their environments, especially Water Ghouls, as water is life, hence their prevalence in the Project). As such, masc Fire Ghouls have been the only successful summonings (though looking at Ifrit's tits and Dew's beauty, one would be forgiven for questioning that).
A final facet to this, is the misconception that the Pit is the fiery Christian Hell. Fire Ghouls in particular are disinterested in furthering this lie perpetuated by followers of the Nemesis. If too many of them live Topside, humans might well get the wrong idea, reinforcing the stereotype of red-skinned devils with horns and pitchforks, like children's Halloween costumes.
But even with this talk of dominant/recessive Elements, and some being predisposed to fem or masc presentations, all the Elements are inherently unpredictable. Floods, wildfires, windstorms, earthquakes, are all destructive. And for the Quints, space is largely uninhabitable, and in this lore specifically, snowstorms and avalanches are the associated wild cards. So all Element combinations are similarly unpredictable, it's always a crapshoot without too much rhyme or reason, much like human genetics can also combine for unexpected results.
Most often, when a Ghoul is summoned, the summoner has a specific Element in mind, to fulfill a role in the Ministry or the Ghost Project itself. Bell was a bit of experimentation by Terzo. He had "Earth-ish" in mind during the summoning, and got Bell. And then for Copia, needing backup singers was a whole new requirement, so Swiss being every Element means he can fulfill any role, and Sunny and Rory were summond with similar intentions. Tempest is Vero's first and so far only summon, needing to not only add a vocalist, but "shuffle" the Ghulehs to account for Cumulus' retirement from touring (with the new Ghoul Ministry establishing itself, and her being Queen of the Pack, she felt a responsibility to stay behind and keep a closer eye on things at home), and so Tempest answered his call; it wasn't initially clear what role she would take up, and so an Air-forward Multi was the best, most logical choice.

A Ghoul Creation Story
@the-moon-in-the-gutter
In the beginning, the Heavens, the Earth, and the Underworld came into being. No one knows how or why, though everyone has their own ideas. What is known, among our kind, is that out of some Magick came the Beast With Many Names; Satan, Lucifer, Iblis, Beelzebub, Atamenoch. We've known Him as Therion, simply the Beast. He approached the first humans with an offer of Knowledge, contained in a fruit, and was punished and cast out from the Heavens, a long way down, to the Pit. He took up Kingdom there, a Prince in Exhile. This is our First Day.
Lifting His gaze to the cosmos, Therion beheld Babalon, the Scarlet Woman, Succubus Upon Her Throne, and did so desire Her. He fell to His knees in prayer to Her, singing and drumming Her praises. And She saw and accepted His devotion, looking down from Her place among the stars, shining marble-white under the blinding light of the Moon. His songs stirred Her cold and rigid heart, and She looked upon Him with love. From that moment forward, She pledged to stand by Him. And this was our Second Day.
They came together as One, because a Magick from the Deep and another from on High, created a Third Day, and so Babalon, the Queen, became the Mother. Their children, some called Abominations, monstrous Giants, who should be shunned and perish. Yet They sent Their children to the Earth, renewing the offer of Knowledge, this time from Them both. Their children imparted great Wisdom and Skills, of smithing and glamoury, and the stars and sorcery, to human men and women alike. And from these visits sprang Lust, and coupling, and from there a new kind of creature, who held great power but were just as feared and scoffed at. They were given names such as Faery, Witch, and Demon. But as you know, we call ourselves Ghoul.
This tale of our Fourth Day, has been retold as the source of actions and identities that are now reviled by some humans. They reject certain forms of love, certain pairings, certain expressions. One that is common among our kind, though their ideas of gender and sexuality are strange and confining, not inspired by the reality of the world around them. If our expression of love exists, and we are all formed from the same Nature, then it must be natural. To restrain love, to restrain what you are, that is what is unnatural.
The humans were given the message to be fruitful and multiply, and so with more of them upon the Earth, it meant more of them would die, and end up in our realm, our Underworld. These sons and daughters of the Nemesis, we learned, were cursed, for the smallest and slightest of transgressions, and sent Below instead of Above. Nostro Dis Pater, Nostro Alma Mater, They welcomed each of them, and told them they are loved, that their souls were not tainted. And so on the Fifth Day, the Pit was no longer a place of punishment. And while we still enjoyed insatiable carnal Lust, it was no longer necessary for gestation and birth to occur. We gained all the numbers we needed. Their deaths became our life.
Now on the Sixth Day, the Nemesis gave life to, and then slaughtered, and then resurrected his own begotten son. The claim was that he would save humankind from ever being sent to us again. But humans, like us, have free will. Some of them chose to make this their reality. Others looked back to other, older ways, and sought us out, by our many names, Faery and Witch, Demon and Ghoul. Some came to call Therion by the Witchfather, and Babalon, the Queen of the Witches, honoring Them as teachers and catalysts for a shift in awareness, in consciousness, in belief. Those humans sought to heal the wound, the open sore, they saw their world had become.
The Seventh Day came only recently, when the original Ministry formed, and called out to us. The first Papa didn't know what he was doing really, but through trials gained much more Knowledge, which he imparted to his own son. It took many decades of time Topside for this Knowledge to be applied effectively, but once it was, the Monstrance Clock reset, and later a hymn would be written to honor this accomplishment, this partnership that was established, exhalting our Father, Who began this all on the First Day.
Welcome, Year Zero.

Another lore post, from the brains of myself and @the-moon-in-the-gutter
On Multi Ghouls, Hybrids, Summonings, and the Pit
Multi Ghouls are among the rare births that occur in the Pit, the result of differing-Element parents. That is, they don't have prior human lives like other Ghouls. Specifically, they're born to one Quint parent and one Hybrid parent, the Hybrids of course the result of cross-Elemental pairings (one Element each).
The first Hybrids were Earth/Air because of an alliance between those Ghouls (though being the most common within the Pit, they are rare Topside). To understand that alliance, first it's important to understand the Pit itself.
The Pit is a wild place, not what humans would consider civilized. There is no hierarchy in Ghoul culture, but that doesn't preclude struggles for resources and survival. Over time, each Element established its own territory, in a climate and environment suited to them. The Fire Ghouls reside in a desert, the Water Ghouls in a vast water system that includes both saltwater and fresh. Quints occupy a wintry tundra, the cold and glittering landscape reminiscent of the cosmos. Earth Ghouls keep to the forests, however they have long allowed Air Ghouls to nest in the high branches of their trees. Thus, these two Elements have been able to live in harmony, including establishing mateships.
This created what is now an old Ghoul Magick. The trees are pathways to connect what is solid and what is ethereal. They represent the journey to mystical understanding (much like the human mythological achetype of the World Tree). And not only that, trees function as the lungs of the planet, creating oxygen for living things to breathe. Incense represents this combination of Air and Earth, the vaporization of plant matter, and thus is frequently used, even among humans, to create a spiritual ambiance, and a trigger for experience. (Rocky and Helios, and Jasper and Icarus, are reviving this Magick Topside.)
Quint Ghouls, then, can be very attracted to these Hybrids of Earth and Air, drawn in by their inherent Magick. Hence, Multi Ghouls came into being. Such couplings created the Sentry Ghouls, and the Magickal magnetism is partially responsible for the mateship between Air and Cowbell (who is Quint and Earth).
The fact that so many Multis and Hybrids have been summoned for the Ghost Project speaks to how powerful Omega is, as the Quint who usually presides over the summonings. For Omega to have summoned so many, it shows that his power extends far past what can be perceived. A Quint is recommended for this ritual to be successful, which is one of the ways Sister Imperator fucked up Special's summoning, and why Nihil's Ghouls were Eldritch monsters. It's not impossible without a Quint, but it leads to complications.
Additionally, the first Ghoul to be summoned if starting over from scratch (as for the re-start of the Project with Opus Eponymous/Era I) is required to be a Quint. This then speaks to Primo’s power as well, that he was able to summon Omega without the presence of another Ghoul, equipped only with knowledge passed on from Nihil and his Ghouls. This knowledge, and other Old Ghoul Magick, is kept secure in the Ministry archives, carefully and dutifully watched over by Chain (OG Water).

Alpha and Omega. The Beginning and the End. The First and the Last. The Hot Old Man Boyfriends.
After Terzo's death, Alpha gave all of himself to comfort Omega as he grieved. He'd been harboring the deepest of unrequited love for the Quint, but still never took advantage while Omega was so vulnerable. He truly wanted Omega to heal and find happiness, even if it still wasn't with him.
Later on down the road (via Delta and Phantom), Omega received a message from Terzo in the Beyond, telling him to move on, giving his blessing for Omega to love another. His first and strongest thought was of Alpha, and after a discussion and a passionate night together, they've become the Gross Make-Out In The Kitchen Dads that make the rest of the Ghoul pack gag.
