He was a new employee supposedly brought in by the manager's son. No one knows anything about him besides his passion for his bear mascot he provided for the store. Despite his age, none of the younger part-timers have ever seen him at school. His Japanese was...odd, but still perfectly understandable.

This was Teddie, and he once told another part-timer he was from the TV.

"Hey!..." The blonde paused to read his co-workers nametag, "...Kenji, have you seen a price tag sticker thing-y anywhere? Has a little wheel and place for your hand to hold it before pressing the button?" Teddie pressed an invisible trigger with his index finger to demonstrate the item's main use.

Coral eyes stare at the office door long after it had been closed shut, blinking owlishly at solid wood in confusion.

What exactly happened in that brief moment? She couldn't quite recall. The weight of a book in her hand meant she had been absorbed in some light reading for the afternoon, that was certain. But the warmth blooming in her face? The tingling sensation on one of her cheeks? What, or who, caused it?

Cadius would not dare play such a prank on her. Pinoko was out of the question. Largo was but a dog. That left—-...

... Ah. Oh dear.

All at once does the tips of her ears flush, and Edeline, with her book long forgotten on the couch, stands—-red-faced, mind you—-and turns to brew herself a much needed cup of tea.

something about the recurring apple motif with caleb. you’re in the kitchen one afternoon; the open windows blowing in petals from the lavender plants in your garden. you’re slicing apples, one by one. that’s when you feel a familiar presence at your back, a familiar hand sliding the knife out of your grasp.

“let me take care of that,” he says, so easily, so familiarly. you want to protest; you don’t.

you stay standing, him behind you, his arms bracketing you, though not imposingly. never imposing — you don’t think so, at least. the smell of lavender bathes the sunlit room; a tender april afternoon.

you’re so focused on the little things — the brush of his hair against your cheek, the sight of his thumb smoothly peeling off the apple skin, the way you always prefer — you don’t notice him raising a piece until it’s pressing against your lips.

“open for your gege,” he says, and again, it’s so effortless of him. it comes second-naturedly, running off his tongue like rainwater.

you part your lips, bite the slice. the fruit sweetens your mouth better than any tart.

when you glance back at him, to thank him, to make a joke that you can feed yourself now, you catch sight instead of his violet eyes. lavender as the drifting petals; swirling with undercurrents you cannot begin to read. he only smiles knowingly, and continues feeding you the forbidden fruit.
