Mat is pretty sure he’s Jozy’s least favourite person. He’s not sure what he did to become Jozy’s least favourite person, but he has a sneaking suspicion that it has to do with the amount of time he spends in bed with Thomas. He knows that Jozy doesn’t trust him, thinking that Mat wants something from Thomas, outside of orgasms. At this point, he’s pretty sure Jozy would prefer that Thomas and Mat didn’t spend time together at all. Unfortunately for Jozy, Thomas usually reaches out for Mat, and Mat never wants to say no. He likes Thomas, who’s sharp and funny in the most understated way, and gets Mat like no one else. And the thing is, Mat’s never done anything to jerk Thomas around, just to jerk him off, because he knows how to be a good friend-with-benefits. Nico nods, and evidently picks up the conversation again, but Mat is distracted and far too awake now. He wants to see how far he can push Thomas, so he starts subtly shifting, preening mentally when Thomas grips harder at Mat’s hip.

Nico takes pity on Thomas, who is now an enticing shade of pink, thanks to Mat’s efforts. “Don’t you two have something better to do?”

“Don’t you mean someone?” Mat asks, smirking. 

“You’re not better,” Jozy says, but there’s a quirk to his mouth, like he’s reluctantly amused. 

“No, but Chabs is,” Mat says, smiling now, because it’s true and also because Thomas is going to turn an extra-delightful pink. Which he does, as both Nico and Jozy stare at Mat with extra wide eyes, like he’s said something extraordinary. 

“…You’re not so bad, Barzal,” Jozy says finally, and Mat feels like he’s passed some kind of test Jozy had expected him to fail. Objectively speaking, though, Thomas is the best; Mat doesn’t get what the big deal is. 

Even even-keeled Nico is still staring at him. “Can I call this a Yule miracle?” he asks, and he sounds completely serious.

“Shut up, both of you,” Thomas says, but his cheeks are still red and the smile he’s trying to contain is spilling out at the edges. “We’re leaving now.”

Mat lifts himself off of Thomas’s lap, and lets Thomas direct him with a hand at the small of his back, saluting a goodbye to Jozy and Nico, who are still staring at them. Or, well, specifically at Mat. Thomas is using Mat to shield his boner, though, and moving him with intent, so they’re out of sight pretty quickly. 

When they get to Thomas’s room, though, Mat pushes Thomas around, till he’s sitting back against the headboard of his bed, and Mat can straddle him. “Did I break them?” he asks, only semi-serious. 

Thomas smiles, placing his hands on Mat’s hips, thumbs stroking along his hipbones. “You just surprised them. They think you’re selfish, remember?”
