YES... i have.... ever since i saw the concept art (these scans are by @/octopathartbooker) i've been like 🤯 i think it would've been really interesting if they went with glasses in the end lol...

but at least glasses can be a situational thing and well temenos isn't getting any younger LOL so reading glasses it is.. i like the idea of temenos whipping out his reading glasses suddenly while they're staying at a tavern or something and hikari seeing it is like o. oh.... (bonus temenos catching him staring and makes a mental note...)

Some group shot from 2021. I like how it came out overall, even if i don't think i got their character right. Except for Mordekai. Somehow i almost always manage to draw him the way i like.

He is Marduk's (a griffin-type spirit's) human companion. Or spiritmaster. Companion is fine, but i like to refer to them as spiritmasters, even if it's misleading. ...Or maybe because it's misleading

So about six years ago, I created a homebrew system for a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon tabletop game. It didn't quite pan out, so I migrated to a heavily homebrewed version of DnD 5e (also designed by yours truly.) Until about 4 months ago, I was running two different campaigns as well as a handful of smaller adventures. I can't take full credit, my boyfriend has been a massive help with running games and coming up with homebrew. Over the last half decade, I've kept a record of all of the characters that have played in our games. EO3 (partial) lineup - November-December 2022

Peak MAbo is collaborating with your best friend for a(n admittedly unfair) final project (for web development!!!! an elective!!!), saying you would post it, forgetting about it for a year, posting it on Artstation and forgetting about it again.

As always, AC drew the lineart, and I colored. Designs were more of a collaborative effort between the two of us!

Probably should have shared this when the HD collection came out... anyway it's here now!

Some design ramblings under the cut :0! There's a lot i wanna share especially given that we recently did a soft rewrite that departed from the guild system entirely ^^" and EO3's cast was actually one of the first that we had, surprisingly!

Micah is quite clearly alt gladiator 3, but in an entirely different profession. instead of going into the labyrinth, he works in what i imagine would be an analogue to the forge in Tharsis (aka helping people make things busted af). It probably works best for his character, since he was always a gizmo freak even in his first iteration! geomagnetic (or submagnetic, ugh) gizmo is AC's idea!

Micah's brother, Eva, is a very loose spin on zodiac 3, but with a wayyyy lighter colour palette. Admittedly, i did steal a little bit of the spiritmaster's coat from bravely default, but AC managed to spin it back to resembling the original coat that the class had. Eva works as an astronomer, hence the little telescope he always has on him.

Next up we have Eva's protégé, Miri (who was imported from AC's stories)! Theoretically, Miri would be a second zodiac, and, after watching some EO3 speedruns, would probably be really strong in the earlygame when working with Eva in an actual playthrough. AC's design heavily borrows from Patho II's Grace, hence the coat + dress combo.

Following Miri in this lineup would be Noa, her admittedly very lazy but clingy sibling. I think it's apparently here that we didn't have much time to filter what a believable design would be in an EO setting, given that Noa's clothes were translated directly from our designs of them in school attire. It's actually funny how for we diverged from their original portrait (buccaneer 3) to the point that she is literally unrecognizable. Truly a pipeline from good sea boy to j-horror twist character.

Last in the OC section would be Masaru, who recently found work for the Senatus. Admittedly he does have another example of "incongruent time period" clothing (the jacket), though it's a lot more reworkable than Noa. We also made his design a lot less poofy and rugged compared to the original, and I mixed the base and alt color palettes as well to make him less, well, glaringly red. Probably one of the funnier things is that his clothing palette made him blend in more with the likes of Kujura, but given that they work for the same place, it'll probably work out fine.

Now we go onto NPCs, and who better to start than with Flowdia! Admittedly, her art was one of the last ones that we did, hence why her design looks relatively plain (sorry lola). Probably one of the things I would like to add would be more ornate patterns, perhaps of butterflies to tie her closer to Gutrune!

Before we get to the Princess, we gotta get through her bodyguard first! >:0 I honestly don't like Kujura because I answered honestly in his first question, and he said that I was prideful, but AC likes him so he looks really good here. He isn't as rendered here as he is in his portrait, since he was also one of the last characters we made, and I didn't really get to notice that he doesn't have as much value contrast in his clothing as Masaru does. Probably something to think about next time I color him >:0

Next up we have Gutrune!! We decided to make her look more jellyfish-like, while still keeping it a bit uncanny and unsettling. We tried to give her a more traditionally Filipiniana look (mostly on the Maria Clara gown), but we haven't yet made a poncho design that mixes well with butterfly sleeves without looking cluttered. As such, she has a more nightdress-y look here. AC drew in a few tentacles, and I couldn't help but make them look squishy.

Last but not least is Olympia! We wanted to align her appearance more with her background, hence her altered design :0 Having rips of the artbook easily accesible online also helped us flesh out her hair in particular, since we didn't want to just transplant Gutrune's hairstyle onto her.

And that's all of them!!! I'm honestly hoping to draw more EO characters, though Seyfried's design scares me (honestly the reason why I couldn't make a Reversed Emperor comic).

Currently, I've made a lot of progress on the EO4 game, and I'm excited to draw up the three N-turned-PCs + Xiuan >:'0!!! I don't think I can ever get as cool as Morika tho. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done to me, betrayer

Guards swarm the area, armed with weapons much stronger than their own.

The party presses themselves together, huddling in an attempt to defend- the barrier of their mage easily breaks, and the supplies of their apothecary runs low.

The healing of the cleric stops to a halt as he drops his staff, overtaken by fatigue. The merchant by his side tends to his injuries with the few items they had left.

With no feasible solution, the hero has no choice- he drops his sword to the floor, lest the blood of his companions be shed in this futile battle.

"We surrender!"

As soon as the hero Kurosawa drops his sword, the rest follow- all for one.

That outlier is approached by one of the guards, perhaps to teach him a lesson for his stubbornness.

But to the shock of the party, they fish out a pocket of coins from their pocket, passing it on to his open hand.

"Piper?"

With a wicked smile, the adamant thief points his blade at the group's songster.

Throw your stones, and stab me with your hateful stares

He was treated like one of utmost importance- guards accompanied him like a noble to the dungeons, respecting his desire to wander alone.

His loyalty laid with Lord Ghetsis and Plasma- not to these fools.

Their weapons and equipment had been confiscated as soon as they were apprehended- in the cases of few that practiced magic, shackles suppressed their abilities, limiting their options.

As the traitor parades himself in the dungeons, he watches the reactions of the party with a smile on his face, knowing that his deed had burned themselves into their minds.

The spiritmaster and his summon make a snide remark.

The "demon lord" stretches his arm from between the bars.

The cleric and apothecary, in one cell, lean against the wall- despite their dynamic, they were no doubt conspiring, whispering amongst themselves as they stared.

In the same cell, the archer is on his knees- calmly pleading for a reason.

The merchant pays him no mind, back turned to him as he passes.

The mage sits in the shadows of his cell, quietly glaring.

And the dethroned hero bears his teeth, fists rattling the bars like a beast in a cage, snarling and hissing.

"You filthy traitor! After all we've been through?!"

All he can do is gloat.

"Traitor? I think you're the real traitor here, Kurosawa! To deny the academy's headmaster of his dream-"

He unsheathes his blade- a stately silver.

"-and to deny the world of its future! What kind of hero are you, to let the world die for senseless sentimentalities?"

From the corner of his vision, bits of glowing magic spill from the gaps of the mage's shackles.

"He is a plague on this world, spreading poison with his songs- you've seen the plays depicting the prophecy, you know what must be done."

In the darkness of the dungeons, the sacrificial dagger gleams like moonlight.

"Clearly, you don't have what it takes to carry out that role- a role you undeservedly got! I've always been better than you-"

There's another snide remark from the spiritmaster, but Piper will deal with him later.

"-I've always won our battles!"

"Not all of them!"

"Most of them!"

The apothecary sighs, making a comment of his own, the immaturity of it all- and to the others, this interaction was nothing more than a spat between rivals.

They weren't taking him seriously.

In the eyes of the party, defenseless and stripped of their armor, they still had the audacity to look down on Piper- to see him as nothing more than a brat, one that barked but did not bite.

He ignores whatever else Kurosawa says, what Kurusu jeers in addition, the snarks of Technamare and Abbot, the glares of Descante and Lobanov, Antoniou's pleas, and Ohashi's blatant disregard for his presence.

He didn't deserve such disrespect- he was the hero, god damn it!

"You-"

And just as he was undeserving of their disrespect, they were undeserving of his time.

"Say all you want," He hisses through his teeth. "I will be the hero. All it takes is his blood, and you're finished, you-"

He grips the hilt of his blade- and sheathes it.

"You nobody."

Turning on his heel, he stomps out of the dungeon as Kurosawa yells for him to come back, to change his mind.

As the metal doors shut, the party is once again left in the dark.

Ohashi, who had been holding his silence, speaks up.

Unraveling his clasped palms, he reveals a pair of keys- one gold and one silver.

In his shared cell with Kurusu, the demon lord asks "How did you get your hands on those?!"

Ohashi doesn't entertain any of their inquiries- a merchant never reveals their secrets, much less how much he paid the guards.

Curtain call, the final act, so say your prayers

At the top of Opelucid's clock tower, the bell tolls for the lonely songster.

His wrists and ankles shackled, he kneels on the stone floor, bathed in sunlight underneath the stained glass ceiling.

His eyes remain closed, his face lowered, his hands in perpetual prayer, even as the traitor steps inside his prison.

"It's not personal,"

He knows.

"Think of it as a blessing,"

He does.

"To be the chosen one, to be picked by the gods- of all the hundreds, thousands, millions of faces, you were the lucky one picked by the stars,"

He was.

"And that's what I don't understand."

A sentiment they shared.

"You're- you were picked for a scholarship at your academy, but you were nothing special. Your aptitude in magic is average, your strength is pitiful, and your grades aren't all that impressive."

He's aware.

"The only thing noteworthy about you is that your brother is a popular sorcerer."

He agrees wholeheartedly.

"So why were you the chosen one? You and Kurosawa, the lamb and the hero, the key and the lock-"

He has no answer for such a thing.

And his silence pushes the traitor over the edge.

"And you're not even looking at me."

His eyes open, but his gaze remained on the traitor's pair of shoes.

"Kurosawa wouldn't kill you, he couldn't- his heart was too weak to become a hero, and if you lived, you'd poison the earth. It was a no-brainer between who to save,"

He hears the sound of a blade being drawn.

"This is the job of a hero, little songbird."

His chin is tilted upwards with the blade- and he meets Piper's guilty eyes.

With a warm smile, he says "I forgive you."

So long to you beloved traitor

At sundown, the songster is taken out of the clock tower and into a sacred chapel.

With god, the sages, the royal guard, and the ministry as their witnesses, the traitor brandishes the sacrificial knife.

Laid atop the marble altar, the songster looks at the sky beyond the stained glass.

White feathers dance across the golden sky.

The chapel doors slam open, a battle cry is made-

All is for naught as the silver blade cuts through his heart, staining his white robes a deep, dark red-

And a lone tear rolls down his cheek, a dewdrop sliding down a delicate white petal.

...

There is a moment of peace in the midst of chaos.

The traitor is chuckling, his shoulders trembling- and he devolves into pure madness as his bloodied blade clatters to the floor, his cackles echoing throughout the chapel.

Turning his face to the party, he meets the gaze of his rival- a smile so wide, it could be mistaken for innocent glee.

"Look at me, Kurosawa,"

Slater's body in his arms, head lolled to the side, a thunderous applause rings through the room.

"I've become a hero!"

We talked about this over text but! Exorcist with a secondary class of Spiritmaster! An overall very powerful support role, with the ability to undo mistakes and cast resistances and immunities. The Exorcist also has a support skill that causes MP regen, which is even more useful. Both jobs have themes of loss, obsession, grief, death, and the loss of mental stability.

I crossed Bravely Default with Final Fantasy XIV and gave the Scions asterisks :3

Vaguely spoilery explanation below the cut!

Some were very straightforward - Y’shtola is Black Mage (technically), Urianger is Astrologian, Estinien is Dragoon and Alisaie is Red Mage. Then Thancred is Thief because there isn’t a Gunbreaker equivalent in Bravely but there is a Rogue. Alphinaud gets Spiritmaster because it’s closest to Scholar/his pre-EW fighting style. Then G’raha is a Freelancer/Bravebearer because he’s an all-rounder and those are Bravely’s closest equivalents, Krile is a Beastmaster for her Echo and also her design, and Tataru is a Conjurer - partly because Bravely Conjurer is a Summoner, like FFXIV arcanist, but also because of Yulyana’s whole Seamster vibe

what was your favorite strategy in a bravely game? I liked remember doing this strat in the first game where a dark knight could spam max damage attacks over and over with the rest of the party on permanent support duty

HAHA no worries!!! it's been a long time since i last played but YES i love dark knight strats (i remember spamming the hell out of minus strike + res with a healer + repeat LOLL). i also remember really loving spiritmaster's stillness! used it a lot in bdff lategame to avoid boss attacks and to heal/buff

This Spore captain of mine goes by three names. There’s Spiritmaster Stitch the Wise, Spiritmaster Stitch the Faithful, and Spiritmaster Stitch the Renowned. His real name is just Stitch, though.

This is the captain of the Deck Hawk. Yes, I named him after a Disney character. Both are aliens, but this one has very dissimilar origins to his namesake. He also has a subjectively fabulous pink and purple color scheme.

In-game, I got him up to Level 10, the highest level a playable captain can be.

Above are all of the accessories I unlocked as Stitch. I can’t equip all of them at once due to complexity limits I’m convinced are more about performance than the game being able to handle it, but I wanted to have at least one accessory from each row, which correspond to a different archetype in the Space Stage (Knight and Wanderer don’t have parts even though they have unique names for each level).

Having all four of the accessories for Diplomats and Zealots means that I get their unique super-abilities. Diplomats get Static Cling, which disables all weapons and vehicles on a planet. It’s supposed to be used for diplomacy, but it would be easy to use it to attack. Zealots get Fanatical Frenzy, which turns a Space Stage star system under another empire’s control into another colony for you. The catch is that it violates the Galactic Code and every empire nearby will hate you for it. Due to that, I fear using it. What kind of Empire is Stitch a part of? A Shaman empire, which means that he also gets Return Ticket. That lets you open a wormhole to your homeworld.

As ohers stated, the cat ears in Kairi's hood in KH3 reference Devout job, the upgraded form of White Mage (some base White Mages also have the same cat hoods). The same class is called Spiritmaster in Bravely series, because it uses Spirit Magic rather than conventional White Magic.

We already discussed how KH2 Kairi/Naminé are like Rinoa. KH1 Kairi uses the traditional short hair Nomura gives for his young girl characters (Yuffie, Iris etc.), whereas KH3 Kairi seems to use Lenna's hairstyle from her sprite, since her hair is pink in the sprite, despite being platinum blonde with a top knot in Amano artworks (Opera Omnia uses an interesting hybrid of the two). This is likely an intentional choice, since FFV was the first game Nomura worked on as a glorified intern, designing most of the enemies, or reinterpreting them from Amano's concept art.
