Pearlina [Pearl x Marina] - Pearl is the big spoon more often than not because she likes to just wrap herself around Marina to make her comfy, but they switch every now and again - Marina doesn't mind either way, she loves feeling Pearl's arms around her just as much as she loves to hold her girlfriend in her own embrace - Sometimes Pearl will fully just lay on top of Marina which she surprisingly doesn't mind much since Pearl is small and she doesn't weigh a lot - After concerts or a long day at work, they come home and just flop down on the couch or their bed and snuggle up to each other, chatting about the day and whatever else comes to mind while they relax with each other <3

M4rie [Marie x Agent 4] - Marie isn't the kind of person who would seem super cuddly, but she makes an exception for Four- who is VERY cuddly - When they first started dating it took Marie some time to get used to how much Four wanted to just be touching her in some way, holding hands or sitting with their knees together. But once she got used to the touch she became more comfortable with it and she likes all those small moments of physical affection - Four likes when they get to lay in Marie's arms, their face buried in the crook of her neck while she rubs comforting circles on their back, it's basically heaven.

North California [Callie x Nori (oc)] - Callie is a big fan of cuddling, she loves that Nori is much taller than her so she can be fully enveloped by her girlfriend's arms - Nori likes that when they cuddle it feels like she's protecting Callie, shielding her even though there's nothing to protect her from. It helps her relax too, knowing that she has Callie safe in her arms and she won't be going anywhere. - If Nori has had a particularly bad day she'll often cling onto Callie wordlessly, waiting for the other to hug her and comfort her while she tries to process the day. Callie knows all of Nori's habits like this so she immediately will wrap her arms around the tall octoling and stroke her hair, talking or singing to help distract her from her negative feelings.

ok new concept for my "unconventional splatoon ships" agenda

nothing against the ones that everyone already knows but i like new weird things

the captain (or old agent 3, whatever you wanna call em) x marie (specifically in 2022, when splatoon 3 takes place).

now hear me out

the captain talks almost exclusively through marie. callie sometimes tells you that the captain said things, but 99% of the time it's marie. seems like the captain likes talking to her, or at least is comfortable doing so.

they've known each other for 7 years. that's a third of the captain's life and nearly a third of marie's.

in that time, marie's commanded the captain, they've been on about equal ground, and the captain has commanded marie, so the relationship between them isn't specifically based on one being the subordinate of the other.

i think one's first instinct in writing anything for this ship would be to make one or both of them demure and blushy but i don't think that works for them and that's why this is interesting

i don't think marie is really capable of doing that genuinely and i think the veneer of confidence is what makes her a really interesting character and what could make her really interesting here.

and the captain's laconicity could really defuse that part of marie's character too, given they're pretty wise when they say things, at least when we hear it through marie.

i think they're both fairly unflappable in very different ways. with marie that's a facade she puts up to look cool and aloof, with the captain it's that they're legitimately hardened by their trauma and all the fighting they've done throughout their life. and those two different kinds of unflappability colliding could be interesting, for one, and pretty cute, for another.

like, the captain managing to fluster marie with just a few words? excellent. marie acting impulsive unexpectedly, throwing the captain off guard? also excellent

i think it's got a lotta potential! and it comes with the very good ship name "mathree," which is like 90% of the reason i started considering this in the first place.
