this actually a re draw of a comic I did ages ago, but this time. the story has a name. this one has been sitting almost finished in my work folder for MONTHS (I had most of it finished. ohhhh my god. back in july of this year? my god. and I posted that original sketch for it back in june of 2022) but I couldn't figure out what to do with the backgrounds, so I decided to simply use every single brush I haven't used before just to see what would happen.
god. fucking. sports, man. I keep thinking about this one pre season game I saw on tv two years ago, and there was a moment in the last ten minutes when the third string quarter back went to play and he threw such a beautiful pass and for a minute it was like seeing lightning strike. I am. upset. that I might never see him play on tv again.
this is why that first page has a lightning strike sort of energy to the players crossing the goal line. also because it's a little bit based on a photo I took back when I did sports photography. there's something about seeing people cross that line while everyone else is trying to pull them back that's soooooooooooooooo good. physical body meet force of will and desperation to win, just once.
(the quarterback is K.D 'Kay' Matsuzaka, the guy with the coffee is Yance, Emil is the third guy in the last panel, he's a linebacker, and Yance's sister is Amie)
