My loves. I am writing a piece for SwanQueen Supernova for the first time in my life and I’m in the process of final edits. All I ask is that when it gets posted, someone please read it. And please be gentle with it. This has been such a labor of love, I hope someone out there loves it as much as I do 🙈

Ahhhh, y'all don't know HOW excited I am about this!

Not many know this, but I've been in a big writing slump the last 10+ years. I used to write Sweenett, Bellamort, Bellamoine (my how the times have changed lol) and when I got a corporate job, I lost a lot of my motivation to be creative from a storytelling perspective. Going into 2023, I decided it was time to change that.

This year's SwanQueen Supernova Challenge was just the kick I needed to get motivated to write again. Over the last few months, I've put together a ~86K retelling of the Camelot arc, a story that does the arc justice and gives us the SwanQueen tale we should have gotten on screen - the real story that was being set up since the beginning of the show.

This arc was especially impactful for me when it first aired years ago. After Emma sacrificed herself in place of Regina to become the Dark One at the end of season 4, I thought to myself, Yes, this is it. This is how the writers are going to finally give us SwanQueen. The greatest magic in OUAT is about True Love, and love is sacrifice - the ways in which we demonstrate, through our actions, what oftentimes words fail to do, right?

Wrong. A&E shat the bed, turned the Dark Swan arc into a complete mess, and slapped a big CS stamp on it at the end. Outside of just the blatant queer bait, 5A was simply: unfulfilling. It was lopsided, lazy. It did not fit the countless messages we were receiving as watchers and fans of the show, in all the ways the writers would define what 'True Love' was, to then push the story in a direction that made no sense to those definitions.

Well, this October, as part of SQSN, I'm here to change that. I am so excited about this piece. I am so proud of myself, too. I have never put together something so large (my longest fic was 18K words and is still incomplete). Further, I've never put together something as complex and full as this piece. It not only rounds out that arc, along with lots of the unanswered concepts that the show introduced in earlier seasons that eventually went nowhere, it does it in a way that feels right. Good.

This story was a practice in healing; I hope it can offer you the same.

This is why she gets on a plane in the middle of the night, takes a leave of absence from work, and books a hotel room in Seattle. (And if she’s fallen a little in love with Meredith, somewhere along the telephone wires between Seattle and L.A., well. It hardly matters now.)

SQSN is fast approaching this year. I have several art pieces in this year all of which are completed, and I’m desperately trying to finish my multi-chapter Supernova, SwanQueen Why Women Kill crossover fic to be part of SQSN this year. I have until September 4th to get it finalised and submitted - hence why I’ve been fairly quiet.

I didn’t opt for a cheerleader. I’m autistic, adhd & dyslexic & suffer with migraines so this is a MAHOOSIVE challenge for me and I’m in desperate need of re-energising. If you could take a moment to give me some positive words of encouragement I would really appreciate it. 🥹

Also, for those of you who follow me on AO3 (username divergentmisfit). I have not forgotten the one shot I planned to write for this particular art work I created some time ago (featured below). It’s just that this SQ/WWK crossover has taken some time to plan and write and I had to put that particular fic on the back burner. But I promise to get it finished after this SQSN fic. 🫶🏻

Undone, a SwanQueen tale

Today is special for many reasons. It is the reveal of my first-ever SwanQueen fic. It is also the first chapter of a new adventure for me personally; it marks the beginning of a new era of writing reignited by one of the ships that has been nearest and dearest to my heart and life for over ten years.

A special thank you goes to my fiancé, Ashley, who dealt with my many months of plotting and countless nights of research and incoherent babbling as I tried to find the words and put the pieces together. She was also my first beta on this story!

Another special thank you goes to my challenge beta and cheerleader, Alice, for helping to quell my anxieties over the SQ Supernova challenge's deadlines, and for helping me with all my unnecessary grammar issues and the like. She helped me bring this story to life in the way I envisioned and I could not have done it without her.

This story is a Camelot rewrite. It is canon-compliant through the end of season 4 with some scenes inspired by season 5A that veer off in a different direction. It is a dark, slow-burn fantasy romance. It is a story of tragedy undone by love. It is lyrical, ambiguous, and complex (that's just my writing style; this will not be for everyone and that's okay).

I need to stress that this fic is dark before it gets better, hence the Mature rating. I wanted to explore Emma and Regina's pasts and the traumas that have been developed as a result of what they each went through. I also tried to expand on the psychological and emotional effects of the Darkness. Everything is tagged appropriately, so please make sure you read the warnings before digging in. This is a full-on adventure with many turns. It will hit you in your gut before it heals you. But, I promise it will be worth it in the end. I need my girls to be happy, so I hope I was successful in giving them the ending they deserved here and the beginning they never saw.

I'm honored to share this piece with the world. I'm honored to give it to fandom. This was a practice in healing. I hope it can offer you the same.
