honestly I don't understand how this is even a point I have to make, yet I have never seen it discussed anywhere. taking a work, completely ripping away every bit of cultural context and changing all its content and themes around until its fit for a perceived audience of white Christian US American 5 years olds is completely unacceptable. doubly so because 4Kids had the gall to buy the broadcasting rights for every country outside Japan.

the only reason this is not discussed is because 4Kids is mainly working with media aimed at children and teenagers, and because US Americans are woefully unaware of the power they hold over the artistic and cultural expression of other countries.

Still haven't started anything new. I feel like I need to get some other stuff off my plate before I can pick up a new book

Disco Elysium - I'm part way through my second run, using the smart boy build this time. Last time I used the emotional boy build and I'm really enjoying how different your experience can be using a different build of Harry, even if I know the ending is similar regardless. It's about the journey

What's the most recent movie you watched?

I think it was Spiderverse 2. There's actually a few movies out rn that I'd like to see, I just haven't gotten around to going to the cinema

Are you watching anything on TV or listening to any shows?

Watched the first ep of Good Omens yesterday and will most likely carry on over the next few weeks. Watching What We Do In The Shadows as they come out, too. Recently finished the new season of The Dragon Prince (which I enjoy when skipping out Callum & Rayla's scenes), as well as Better Call Saul (which I did not enjoy as much as I'd hoped)

It was the Costa Machine, not the sandwich chiller, that was leaking at work. And let me tell you, learning that made a big difference to who would come out to fix it lol

After quite a while, I’ve returned.

I first entered tumblr-land in 2012. I used tumblr periodically, would take breaks and return, then leave again if I got bored.

I deactivated my old account when tumblr-land turned into censorship-land. It still kind of is that way today, but nowhere near what it used to be.

I came back here a couple years ago, like in 2020 I think, just to keep up with @ssjumi ‘s art.

But now I’m back-back, like actively back. Maybe I feel a sense of dedication to guarding tumblr from the twitter nuts who will bring their harassment, doxxing, cancelling and other erroneous behavior here. Of fucking course not everyone on twitter is bad and of fucking course not everyone coming here from twitter will do bad things. You, the random stranger reading this, know what the fuck I mean so don’t even start your bullshit.

I just think it’s hilarious the way people act like twitter is about to be ruined, as if it hasn’t been a massive shithole of disgusting behavior that put people in jeopardy numerous times over the course of at least a decade. I think what people really mean is that they don’t want Musk to control their behavior, because twitter is their place to do bad shit and get away with most of it.

In other news, I’m kind of a bitchy person and quite vocal about things I don’t like, disagree with, etc. This damn sure won’t be a kpop blog, even though there are some kpop groups I like and there will be times when I bitch about BTS cause I’m so fucking tired of them.

There he was, so eerilylife-like that Mokuba half expected him to just open his eyes, yet also almost otherworldly inthe artificial light. Even without blood in his veins and with fluid still fillinghis lungs, he was perfect. Bones, muscles, nerves, organs and skin, even his hair hadbeen meticulously reproduced.

A perfectreplication.

But, Mokubathought as he put his hand on the cool glass to marvel at the recreated form,it lacked something crucial that was not as easy to come by as air or blood.Something even his brother could not force to bend to his will, no matter howrelentlessly he pursued it.

Last Movie: El Camino, in our quest to watch all the Breaking Bad series many years too late. A very enjoyable movie with a lot of heart and some interesting looks at trauma. I felt it wrapped up Jesse's story nicely

Currently Watching: We just have one episode left of the current season of The Dragon Prince. I'm firmly on Team Viren - how could I not root for my complicated evil daughter, her calming tree bf, the corpse of her gay dad and a gollum that screams "blood of the child!"? Also, the currently airing season of What We Do In The Shadows, which is even louder and queerer than ever before. I'm fully invested in Guillermo's becoming a vampire plot finally moving

Currently Reading: Shamefully, I'm not currently reading anything. I do need to pick the Dr. Stone manga back up and read up to where the current season of the anime ends though, since I don't want to read ahead of the anime

Currently Craving: Philidephia cream cheese and crackers

Would you ever write an AU with a sci-fi setting?

That’s a tough one, because I rarely write AUs, but once in a blue moon I really enjoy coming up with them. Also I’m weirdly enough not that drawn to writing in sci-fi settings? (except for robots ofc, robots are important) I rather gravitate towards myths, magical stuff and fantasy more.

On the top of my head, I only remember writing a Starwars AU once (if that’s sci-fi and not space fantasy or whatever?). I had an outline for an Ace Attorney AU where robots are a thing and there was tons of stuff about robot law and Klavier was a robot, of course - but I never wrote anything for that, because it would have to be multichapter and actually require me writing something with a plot 8D

So I guess the answer is: I might come up with a sci-fi AU, but the chances that I’ll write it are very slim, unless I can somehow cram it all into a oneshot.

Frea

- He has a LOT on his mind, but unless you’re using his pov or cheating at narration, you will barely get across any of it. Especially not when other people are around. He’s very easily overshadowed by other characters, and will barely ever speak up when more than two or three people are present.

- When he talks, he speaks in simple words. Short sentences. He likes being with people he loves, he wants to communicate and let others know how he feels, but he. Just. Really doesn’t wanna talk. He feels that instead of bringing across his thoughts, words are always in his way, twist his thoughts and cut him off from everyone around him.

- He’s not very smart in the academic manner. He’s also not very informed on political issues. But he’s pensive, emotionally intelligent and may one day even be wise.

- There are times when he opens up a lot around his friends, and that’s usually when he forgets about his inhibitions. Unfortunately, they always get the better of him sooner or later. Once those barriers will be removed once and for all, he will be able to be much warmer with his friends. He’s never going to be very talkative or expressive, he’s always going to be shy and reserved about his own opinions and needs, but he has the potential to be comfortable around those he loves.

- Crucial about Frea’s character is bringing across that it’s not his fault or the fault of his shyness he’s so disconnected from others. The problem is that even though he’s not very good at establishing boundaries, or maybe especially because of that, others need to learn how to respect them.

Edwyne

- Edwyne’s prevailing mood is optimism, liveliness and confidence. She radiates warmth and vigor, is very sociable and cares a lot for the well-being of others. She can be overwhelming sometimes and tends to think she knows what’s best for everyone around her. She always means well though, and her spirit is not just superficial. She loves deeply and profoundly.

- On the outside, she may seem super simple-minded and carefree, and that’s kinda the impression she wants you to have, too. Her innermost thoughts though are way more complex than she’d let anyone know. She often strives so much to be the ideal Nord warrioress that she won’t allow herself any of the many second thoughts rummaging around in the back of her head. If she often doesn’t seem like she thinks things through, it’s cuz she doesn’t wanna think things through. That doesn’t mean that more contemplative part of her doesn’t exist though.

- Edwyne always. ALWAYS speaks her mind. Doesn’t matter whether the situation calls for it, whether it’s rude or not, Edwyne will be open about her opinions. She’s proud of the space she takes up and will claim it if it isn’t voluntarily given to her.

- She’s prone to bias, but also quick to overcome it. As in: She’s initially distrustful of unfamiliar concepts or people, but she is easily delighted and trusts even quicker.

- The most important part about writing her is making sure that the reader understands Edwyne’s conflicts do not lie with her confidence or her pride. Those are her innermost fire that makes her the incredibly strong, loving and protective person she is. She doesn’t suffer from hubris, she suffers from others’ expectations.

18. A random headcanon

Atem wasn’t fond of Yugi’s choice of bling when Yugi dressed them for that date with Anzu because it wasn’t all gold and definitely not fancy enough - there is actually no limit to the amount of intricate golden jewelry Atem would wear at any given occasion if he could afford it and no one stopped him.

21. Which Millennium Item would you want and why?

Seeing the future is scary, as is mind-controlling people and looking in their hearts and judging them and whatnot, and even though the Eye looks cool, I’d like to keep both my eyes, thank you very much. I don’t even get what the Cube really does. If I’m very honest, I’m actually way too intrigued by possession and mind-sharing to not be tempted by the items that have funky ancient spirits inside, but being stabbed in the chest is not my thing, so having a cool wish and ~power of unity~ and being suddenly king of games while wearing leather pants it is.

Oh boy. Even if I’m not gonna bother with not really popular ships, it’s hard to really pick one? I’ll try to explain, because it’s quite complicated!

[Also this is not supposed to be ship hate, those are just my personal preferences, things I personally don’t care about or like and things that rub me the wrong way. I don’t wanna pretend my opinions are universal or that people have to stop doing something just because I personally don’t like it. You do you!!]

I have a huge problem with how Jou and Seto are usually shipped. I actually think there’s some interesting stuff there, but Jou tripping all over Seto and being the hot-headed, non-threatening ~uke~ while Seto is all dreamy and cool and aloof really put me off the ship. Seto insulting and looking down on Jou like he does in canon getting confused with “fun banter” is also a bit wild to me, but I suppose that is the dub to blame? In any case, I do sort of ship it, but definitely not like that. 

Same goes for Yami/Yugi, sadly. That one is a bit harder to explain, but I’ll try:I like their relationship and I’m SO INTRIGUED by that two-souls-one-body thing, but most fandom stuff for them that is explicitly shippy just does not really work with how I see them and their relationship and much of it just rubs me the wrong way. There’s so much smut  out there for them that’s just not my cup of tea, and it’s mostly because Yugi with an extremely feminine body and weirdly sexualized poses (bubble butt and bulge and all that) just is such a squick for me. On a related note, I also can’t stand Atem who is all buff and manly and weirdly tall, though I think that has become less of a thing?Listen, they are both tiny and have big purple eyes and they are both huge dorks, and they have an awkward but sweet and respectful relationship and they have some co-dependency issues but they are working on it, and that is all I want. (To be fair, I read very lovely fanfic for them on tumblr, so I think this little rant does not apply to like, the entirety of tumblr YGO fandom, but all of this used to be pretty much the only Y/Y content you could find).

Also Yugi/Seto. Again, I’m not uninterested in content involving them, but in this case, I have to admit I just don’t ship it at all. Partly because I don’t want Yugi to be sort of a fill-in for Atem in the rival slot and because Yugi really deserves better than having to deal with Seto Kaiba. Partly because I personally don’t like ships where a kind character is paired with a troubled douche to help the troubled douche with all his issues. But I guess it just boils down to “it’s just really not my kind of ship”.

Then there’s Mahad/Mana and Atem/Mana, mostly for age reasons and also because Mana needs to be allowed to have platonic relationships. The BMG is already sexualized enough.

Y’all need to stop taking Seto fucking Kaiba and every word he says so seriously.
