it would have been easy for the transport menu in SSX 3 to be just something you can select after pausing. it would have been interesting flavor for it to instead be a ski-lift you walk over to in some chill hub zone. it is neither of those things. it is instead a building that you snowboard over to, riding down a system of branching paths that function as nested menu options you are drilling down through, while having full control of the character and being able to grind on environment objects and build a combo as if you were in any other level. there are also hidden collectibles (just like in the regular levels) if you start really exploring the area.

All of that, in place of a menu. a menu that is also available if you'd rather use that. That is the quality of SSX 3.

9/31 - Childhood Video Game / CringeTober
SSX?? in 2024??? funfacts under the cut!
I was already drawing a ton of Jak and Daxter this month so I wanted to veer toward a different game for the prompt- these two are from the SSX franchise- which I played A LOT as a kid, up until our gamecube finally died. Psymon and Zoe were my favorites and I paired them together a lot sldkfjsfdj I was crushing hard on both of them ( zoe unknowingly at the time) if I wasn't playing the game, I was making little stories about them in a 99 cent notebook.
I wish the series didn't end the way it did, but it lives on in my heart and maybe my silly little internet download from the seven seas :3C

It's TRICKY tricky TRICKY tricky HUH!!!!
SSX Tricky is one of my all time favorite games and I want a remaster/remake of it more than anything else. EA, if you shamelessly love to grub up people's money so much, why haven't you thought of rereleasing it? Crazy.

For many, childhood was an era of unbridled exploration and adventure. The same was true for me, but growing up in a gated community, far enough away from that "wild mountainside", my adventurous spirit found flight in gaming. These games shaped my childhood and remain part of me today.
1. Donkey Kong Country 2. Super Mario 64 3. LEGO Rock Raiders 4. Animal Crossing 5. Banjo Kazooie 6. Homeworld 7. SSX3 8. MYST

1. Donkey Kong Country (SNES) My siblings and I would sit in front of the cabinet-encased CRT TV display for hours. The unique art style of 3D models plastered against a 2D world enthralled me, but the music held me captive far longer...

2. Super Mario 64 (Nintendo 64) I can't tell you how many times I completed this game in its entirety, but I can say that back before I had the Internet to listen to music, I would beat Bowser over and over just to listen to that end theme one more time...

3. LEGO Rock Raiders (PC) This game inspired a mini obsession with caverns in young me (and its unique music style may have instilled my predisposition to liking Owl City years later...). I'd play the final level for hours trying to get all the energy crystals!

4. Animal Crossing (GameCube) My father said, "I found this game at a thrift store; thought you might like it..." The hours and hours I poured into this game over summer vacations... Nothing has compared to that first little town I called home...

5. Banjo Kazooie (Nintendo 64) Standing out (to me) as one of the most iconic story-driven adventure games of its era, this gem fits well alongside my red-capped plumber friend. Click Clock Wood and Mad Monster Mansion were my favorite levels!

6. Homeworld (PC) I'm awful with real-time strategy games, but I couldn't stop engaging with this game's immersive atmosphere. To this day, it has one of the coolest openings for a game I've seen! Much like "Markiplier", I think Space Is So Cool!

7. SSX 3 (GameCube) It didn't take me long to become a LEGEND at this game! I could win every race, 1st place every time! Jamming out down the slope to 'Radio Big' was an absolute vibe! I would play till my hands blistered!

8. MYST (PC) As the first computer game I ever played, this one holds a special place in my memory. My first computer had roughly 32 MB of RAM, so the game was nearly unplayable, but after watching a book fall one frame at a time over 2 hours, it was all worth it in the end!
