This is my friend Teva Harrison she is fighting metastatic breast cancer. Teva Harrison has since passed away earlier this year! She was just an inspiration to me and so many others. I do miss her so very much. But, she lives in our hearts 💕. On this first day of breast cancer “awareness” month, I learned that my cancer is literally trying to take my voice away. It paralyzed the left side of my larynx and I only have the sub-optimal voice I do because the right side is overcompensating. There are things that can be done, and I’ll be exploring them with a specialist, but my voice will likely never be what it once was. Metastatic breast cancer chips away at who we are on so many levels but I wasn’t expecting it to go for my voice. It’s like it knew that I use it for advocacy or something. I don’t plan on being quiet anytime soon. I woke up this morning and shouted for someone to bring me a bowl to vomit in. Thanks to my kids who came running with one. They were getting ready for school, and having me need to vomit is not abnormal. . But happy news, I think I am actually sick with the flu and it's not #chemo or the #cannabisoil or even just the #cancer. . This is just one of the many plights of the metastatic cancer patient. Many of us have non-stop aches, somatic sensations, or straight-up pain. And new pain can send us down a #stresshole. I was relieved this morning when my friend, who I spent days with last week, was dry heaving. . Of course, I am not "happy" that she is sick. I am relieved to be able to shelter today under being "sick with the flu" instead of stressing that my headache was #brainmets. Or my stomachache was ascites or my liver. . I am feeling a bit better now. I am hoping to feel strong enough tomorrow to be an upright human.❤🌟🌟❤ #metastaticbreastcancer #stageIVneedsmore #cancercollege #medicalmaryjane #marijuanaismedicine

It’s #MetsMonday. Class is in session. 🔹 Metastasis is the medical term for cancer that spreads to a different part of the body from where it originally started. When this happens, it’s referred to as “metastasized.” Other names for metastasis are “metastatic cancer” and “stage 4 cancer.” 🔹 Breast cancer tends to spread to the bones, liver, lungs, chest wall, and brain. 🔹 Cancer cells can also metastasize to the pleural space (the lining around the lungs) such as in my case. This may cause excess fluid buildup in these areas (called malignant pleural effusions), like the over 2 liters of fluid I had drained off last week. 🔹Metastasis uses the same name as the original cancer. So a breast cancer that spreads to the liver, for example, is referred to as “metastatic breast cancer (MBC),” not liver cancer...again, same with me. 🔹So my plan, waiting for our game plan on Tuesday at 1:15 and FIGHT LIKE HELL. My MBC is in the pleural space of my lungs, liver, pelvis, thoracic spine and ribs. Waiting to hear results on my brain MRI (the PET scan was CLEAR in my head so being positive). I always knew there was a chance of MBC for me. It’s how we live once diagnosed with breast cancer. I figured after 7 years out, my chances would go down. But people, cancer is unrelenting. You can never rest. You MUST know your normal. I knew my “pneumonia” wasn’t adding up. I never felt sick other than my dry cough and shortness of breath. So please, listen to your body and get on it if something isn’t right. 🔹Our world has been ROCKED at our house. We truly feel the love and prayers coming our way. How to get kicked out of the chemo clinic: Step 1—wear this shirt. Today is my first day of Taxol (Paclitaxel) after an 8 month ride on Halaven (Eribulin). My scans on Monday showed major liver progression with mild ascites as well as bone progression. Lungs are still clear, though, so there is that.
